Chapter 6: Stealing the Wife in a Stand-in Novel (Part 6)
Sometimes, being too cautious is not necessarily a good thing.
Chen Suihe’s little movements which she thought were perfectly natural, relaxed, and fluid appeared incredibly stiff to an outsider. However, to cooperate with her, Shen Chuli suppressed her urge to laugh and acted as if she saw nothing, following along with the performance.
As the steps of the plan were checked off one by one, Chen Suihe couldn’t help but feel a bit smug. But after the smugness passed, she was faced with a difficult problem.
Staring at the large word “Kissing” in her memo, Chen Suihe felt conflicted. She remembered her first kiss with Shen Chuli; that memory wasn’t exactly pleasant. Under the gaze of so many onlookers, they had even bumped into each other hard enough to break their lips. The metallic taste of blood in her mouth was still vivid in her memory.
Isn’t there any other way?
Chen Suihe didn’t give up and searched across various platforms, but after checking them all, every method given inevitably led back to the “kissing” step. After a night of contemplation, Chen Suihe decided to draw from the experiences of her predecessors, gather wisdom from a hundred schools of thought, and give it a try!
The method of kissing was something Chen Suihe had used at the very beginning, and the effect had been excellent. Not only did it cause the scumbag’s White Moonlight, Shen Chuli, to rescue her in one fell swoop, but she also witnessed the scumbag’s mental breakdown with her own eyes. The results could be described as “guaranteed to work.”
But back then, it had been a crime of passion. Her brain had been rusted, so she had just lunged forward recklessly. This time…
Chen Suihe put down the newspaper she was using as a front and peeked at Shen Chuli. Her gaze circled the woman’s face before finally landing on those crimson lips.
Mhm, bright red, very healthy circulation, Chen Suihe evaluated.
She had no idea how to hide her gaze; it was exceptionally scorching and blatant. Even if Shen Chuli wanted to pretend she didn’t notice, she couldn’t. When their eyes met, Chen Suihe hurriedly retracted her gaze and covered her face with the newspaper, terrified that Shen Chuli would question her.
After waiting for a long time, she didn’t get a question; instead, Shen Chuli was the first to leave. Her ears remained perked up, and once she heard the bedroom door close, Chen Suihe “dog-stealthily” put down the newspaper.
Noticing a bowl of washed cherries on the table, she brought them over and clumsily stuffed a cherry stem into her mouth to practice tying a knot. Although her brain had been chaotic at the time, she hadn’t forgotten the sensation of her tongue being forcibly led!
Forums and threads all said that practicing with cherry stems was the fastest way to improve. This time, she, “Niu-hu-lu” Suihe, was definitely going to make Shen Chuli head over heels!
Chen Suihe curled up on the sofa, clutching a small basin of cherries to practice. She didn’t notice at all that ever since she decided to resume her “Great Seduction Plan,” the frequency of cherries appearing in the house had skyrocketed.
In the bedroom, Shen Chuli sat on the window seat chuckling at her phone, watching the screen where a certain someone was clutching cherries and sticking out her tongue to rest.
Shen Chuli had been very busy lately, often disappearing during the day. Fortunately, Chen Suihe had her own things to do and wasn’t as clingy anymore. This fact gave Shen Chuli quite a bit of resentment. Every time she took out her phone during a work break to check on Chen Suihe and saw her looking carefree at home, her happiness was outweighed by that resentment.
She poked the sleeping face of Chen Suihe on her screen and spoke in a voice only she could hear: “Heartless little robot, I’m keeping a tab on all these instances of you neglecting me.”
When she looked up again, the gentle smile on her face faded. Her sharp gaze swept across the room, making many of the elderly shareholders’ legs tremble uncontrollably.
“Xiao Li, Uncle Zhao watched you grow up. After all, we and the Xu family have been friends for generations. Doing this… it isn’t right, is it? What will the outside world say about us?”
The shareholder calling himself Uncle Zhao took a long detour playing the emotional card. Under Shen Chuli’s half-smiling gaze, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and revealed his ultimate goal: “This deal was secured through your Brother Zhao’s connections. Ending it just like that… it’s not appropriate, is it?”
Shen Chuli let out a light laugh. “Do I need to list out exactly how much kickback you and your son pocketed from this project in front of everyone?”
As she spoke, she flicked a USB drive across the table. “Instead of haggling with me here, you’d better think about how to pay back that money. Maybe it’ll even get you and your son a reduced sentence.”
Having said that, she stopped looking at Uncle Zhao’s face and told the others coldly, “I am here to notify you, not to negotiate. The Xu Group is at the end of its rope. If the company doesn’t want to be dragged down soon, follow my orders.”
Although she used the tactic of “killing the chicken to scare the monkeys,” some of those who called themselves her uncles or grandfathers still refused to yield. The road to decoupling from the Xu family was not a smooth one.
While her secretary was reporting to her, she was watching a newly sent video. In the video, Xu Hao looked like he was high, ranting wildly in a private lounge and showing contempt for everything.
“It’s fine.” Shen Chuli closed the video and handed the secretary several USB drives, each labeled with the name of a shareholder who opposed her the most. “Just send these to them.”
In City A, before Xu Hao had even sobered up from his drinks, he was hurriedly called back to the company by his father.
“Idiot!”
Before he even entered the room, a thick stack of papers was thrown at him. A sharp folder cut his forehead, and blood instantly spurted out. Xu Hao’s originally guilty expression turned cold. He wiped the blood from his brow and walked toward Elder Xu.
Sitting in the executive chair, Elder Xu stared coldly at his only son, his eyes filled with deep disappointment and exhaustion.
“The partnership with the Shen family had its funding withdrawn two weeks ago. Did you know that?”
“What?”
Xu Hao’s reaction clearly showed he was unaware. Elder Xu’s disappointment deepened: “I handed this position to you hoping you could lead the family business further.” Elder Xu choked up slightly. “Open your eyes and look you’ve almost squandered the entire family fortune!”
Confused, Xu Hao stepped forward to flip through the documents his father had thrown on the desk. He leafed through them hurriedly, muttering “impossible” under his breath. It wasn’t until he reached the signature on the last page that he saw Shen Chuli’s name.
Staring at those three words, Xu Hao’s pale face instantly flushed bright red. “It’s Chuli being jealous, Father!”
Elder Xu was somewhat startled by how he reached that conclusion, then heard Xu Hao continue: “I kept a woman who looked a bit like her before. She saw her. She’s using this method to tell me she minds!”
“Are you insane?”
Elder Xu felt his son was having a mental episode, but Xu Hao was immersed in his own fantasy, completely unable to accept outside information.
“It must be that!” Xu Hao laughed, his eyes bloodshot, looking at Elder Xu with a distorted and manic expression. “Soon, Chuli will come back to marry me. That’s how it develops in the dreams; that’s how the plot goes!”
“What kind of nonsense is this!” Seeing something was wrong with him, Elder Xu barked. “Your mother passed away early, and I was too busy with business to look after you. It’s just paranoia; we can treat it!”
As he spoke, he stepped forward to try and grab Xu Hao’s flailing arms. But he was old after all; how could he compare to Xu Hao? Even if Xu Hao’s body was hollowed out by vice, his strength was still more than Elder Xu could match.
CLANG!
The secretary waiting at the door heard a massive crash from the office and rushed in to check. They saw their old chairman lying in a pool of blood, while their President looked insane, a twisted smile hanging on his face.
The news that Xu Hao had accidentally injured his father seemed to grow wings, and by the end of the morning, everyone who needed to know, knew. That the future heir of the enterprise was a madman who dared to kill his father naturally made stockholders uneasy. Furthermore, the heir had recently been on the trending search for a scandal, and it seemed there were more heavy-duty black materials yet to be released.
The Xu Group’s already volatile stock price hadn’t even stabilized before it took another massive plunge.
Chen Suihe’s learning had reached a small level of success. She tentatively leaned close to Shen Chuli, and seeing that she wasn’t rejected, she clingily rested her shoulder against the woman’s, her eyes curiously watching the computer screen.
“Is this… falling stock?” Chen Suihe pointed at a stock flashing green and asked in confusion. “Why… look at it? Are you… going to… buy? Won’t it… lose?”
Shen Chuli naturally pulled her into her lap. The scent of the same shower gel she used drifted into her nose, making her feel pleasant.
“No,” she said. “We won’t buy yet. it can go even lower.”
With that, she closed the laptop and looked at the cat-ear headband Chen Suihe was wearing, lightly flicking it with a playful and ambiguous gesture. “What is this?”
Clearly she was the one here to “seduce” someone, but the one being seduced hadn’t blushed yet; the seducer had already turned into a giant red tomato.
“What?”
Shen Chuli didn’t catch her whispered words and leaned in closer, only to hear her murmur: “Cat ears. Do you… like them?”
Shen Chuli laughed. Her fingers moved from the fake cat ears to Chen Suihe’s burning earlobe. Her soft fingertips kneaded and teased the earlobe gently. Chen Suihe felt like she was about to spontaneously combust.
“Oh, suddenly so… sleepy!” She stood up abruptly from Shen Chuli’s lap, reading from an invisible script with zero emotion. “I’m… going to bathe first!”
With that, she walked away with stiff, robotic movements. When she reached the corner of the hallway, she trotted over. A moment later, a pair of trembling fake cat ears peeked out, followed by her round eyes.
Locking eyes with Shen Chuli, a steaming-hot Chen Suihe urgently retracted from the corner.
Cold water extinguished the heat on her face, but it caused her to develop a high fever in the middle of the night. In her feverish delirium, she saw someone approaching her with a syringe. Chen Suihe was instantly terrified and began to cry out, looking for someone to protect her. It wasn’t until a familiar fragrance reached her nose that she plunged into the person’s arms, sobbing herself to sleep.
She thought she was screaming and shouting, but in reality, it was only soft weeping. Shen Chuli held the burning Chen Suihe, her eyes full of heartache.
Fortunately, the fever-reducing injection worked well, partly because Shen Chuli had nourished her body much better. When she woke up near noon the next day, Chen Suihe felt a bit fatigued, but had no other discomfort.
Seeing her come downstairs, Shen Chuli greeted her naturally while carrying lunch. Considering she had just been sick, lunch today was exceptionally light. For Chen Suihe, who had been eating fresh, spicy, and delicious food every day recently, this meal was utterly boring.
“Eat properly.” Shen Chuli interrupted her behavior of bullying the rice. “After eating, we’ll pick a school together.”
