Chapter 5: Stealing the Wife in a Stand-in Novel (Part 5)
In the past, Xu Hao’s marketed titles were always things like “Young Talent” or “Wealthy Second-Generation Heir.” This was the first time the label “Sore Loser” was attached to his name.
When the online public opinion broke out, Xu Hao was drinking in a small villa. Although called a villa, it was actually more like a den of debauchery. In this three-story villa lived various young men and women some forced, some voluntary trapped there to serve as entertainment for wealthy young masters.
“03, what are you doing here?” Someone walked over and asked, seeing a girl named 03 hiding in a corner.
The girl called 03 snapped back to her senses and gave a forced smile: “16, it’s nothing. I might have eaten something bad yesterday; I’m just feeling a bit unwell.” Her overly pale complexion lent evidence to her excuse, preventing 16 from becoming suspicious.
The boy called 16 shrugged. “Why don’t you hide for a while? But don’t stay too long. Remember to show your face now and then so ‘Father’ can see you on the cameras, or he’ll punish you.”
03 managed a smile and thanked him for his kindness. The people here might have had names once, but after being kept here, they were all reduced to numerical codes. She was hiding in a blind spot though the villa was filled with cameras, there were a few dead zones that everyone tacitly understood.
Hiding in the corner, 03’s heart hammered like thunder. A few days ago, someone had contacted her using a virtual account, asking her to monitor the “guests” in the villa, especially the Xu family’s son, Xu Hao, who had been a frequent visitor lately. At first, 03 thought someone was playing a prank or that it was a test sent by “Father.” She replied cautiously, talking in circles.
Until the other party typed out her real name.
“Li Meng, do you really not want to escape that cage?”
Li Meng’s breath hitched. She stared in disbelief at the words jumping onto the screen: “I can help you help all of you escape that place. I just need you to keep an eye on Xu Hao for me.”
“Just that?” Li Meng replied with trembling hands. “Our phone networks are monitored constantly. How can you ensure our chat won’t be detected?”
The other party guaranteed: “His technology is only good enough to monitor you.”
Li Meng’s hands shook with excitement. Suppressing her nerves, she asked: “What do I need to do?”
“Tomorrow, a package will be delivered to the dog hole in the corner of the garden. It contains a miniature camera and recorder. Rest assured, the jammers in your villa won’t work against it.”
The next day, following the mysterious person’s instructions, Li Meng indeed found the package. She quickly unwrapped it and moved the contents back to her bedroom. The bathroom was the only safe place in their living quarters.
Fast forward to today: she had the device tucked into her inner clothing. Doing this for the first time, she was so nervous she had stomach cramps. After composing herself, she used the mirror in the hallway to tidy up, put on a sugary, cloying smile, and became the swaying, charming “03” once again.
After asking a companion which room Xu Hao was in, 03 knocked on the door. “Young Master Xu, do you mind one more person?”
Before Xu Hao could answer, a companion accepted on his behalf: “Come in, welcome!” With that, they pulled 03 inside and the door was double-locked.
Sitting in the middle, Xu Hao’s face was livid as he scrolled through his phone, his complexion turning a dark, sickly shade. 03 swayed her hips over to him, simply giving the girl next to him a look, and the girl on his right sensibly stood up to give her the seat.
Seated next to Xu Hao, 03 leaned in affectionately, ensuring the camera on her chest could record the messages on his phone screen. After watching for a while, she looked away. Xu Hao wasn’t scrolling through anything private; he was looking at the public opinion threads about him online.
Though he was there for “fun,” the online storm had killed Xu Hao’s mood. While she didn’t capture any over-the-line behavior from Xu Hao himself, she recorded plenty of his companions’ actions. 03 waited until Xu Hao left before making an excuse to slip out.
By the time she returned to her room, dawn was breaking. 03 hid in the bathroom, hurrying to contact the mysterious person. Under their guidance, she uploaded the video step-by-step. Watching the progress bar slowly climb to 100%, 03, now back to being Li Meng, finally let out a sigh of relief and collapsed onto the floor. She covered her face and wept silently. She had been in this place for too long—so long that she had almost forgotten her own name and truly believed she was “03.”
“I bought a bouquet of flowers from an old lady today to give to you.”
Chen Suihe walked over holding a bunch of vibrant, blooming flowers and handed them to Shen Chuli. “Beau… tiful.”
“Thank you,” Shen Chuli accepted the flowers and leaned in to sniff them. “Very fragrant, very pretty. I love them.”
Hearing the praise, Chen Suihe’s eyes curved and she smiled. Through the guidance of the rehab teacher and her own hard work, she could slowly produce sounds. Though she couldn’t speak in full sentences yet, she had improved significantly. Consequently, a few days ago, the gentle, mother-like specialist had resigned and left.
What was once a trio’s trip was now down to just the two of them. Unlike Chen Suihe, who was a bit sad about the departure, Shen Chuli was exceptionally happy.
“What… looking… at?” Chen Suihe leaned in next to her. Looking at the dense lines of code on the screen made her dizzy. Seeing Shen Chuli’s fingers flying across the keyboard, she didn’t disturb her; instead, she grabbed a book from the shelf and ran off to read with great interest.
By the time Shen Chuli finished her work, Chen Suihe was already deep into the “sea of books.” Shen Chuli pinched the bridge of her nose to relieve fatigue, stood up, and crouched beside her. “What are you reading?”
Chen Suihe returned from her reading and smilingly showed the cover. It was a high school Chinese textbook.
Shen Chuli rested her chin on her arm and asked, as if just in passing, “Do you want to go back to school?”
The smile on Chen Suihe’s face froze for a second, then broke into an even wider grin: “Want!”
“That response was certainly articulate and powerful,” Shen Chuli laughed as she pulled her up from the floor. “When you can say a full sentence completely, I’ll send you back to school, how about that?”
Having been together for so long, Chen Suihe had long ago figured out Shen Chuli’s temperament—if she said something would happen, it basically always did. Chen Suihe’s eyes curved, and she lunged into Shen Chuli’s arms. “Chu… li, good!”
Her childish behavior made Shen Chuli laugh. She supported the girl’s thighs and bounced her slightly, drawing a startled cry. “Hold on tight,” Shen Chuli laughed. “We’re going out to forage for food!”
Under Shen Chuli’s careful care, Chen Suihe’s stomach was much better. Today, for the first time in a long while, she was allowed to eat the flavorful, oily, and spicy food from a roadside stall.
When the dishes arrived, Chen Suihe remembered her “seduction plan” after a long hiatus. Combined with a desire to act cute, she industriously served Shen Chuli food. Looking at her overflowing bowl, Shen Chuli stopped her, half-laughing and half-exasperated: “Alright, eat your own food.” As she spoke, she picked up a piece of food and rinsed it in a bowl of plain water she had specifically requested before handing it to Chen Suihe.
Her plan to sneak some spicy food ruined, Chen Suihe sulkily poked at the rice in her bowl.
“Your temper is getting bigger and bigger,” Shen Chuli flicked her forehead upon seeing her not eating properly. “The teacher is gone now, so no one is protecting you. If you don’t want to be punished, eat your food obediently.”
At the mention of “punishment,” Chen Suihe’s cheeks instantly turned bright red. That “punishment” wasn’t physical it was a punishment of her sense of shame! Chen Suihe picked up her bowl and began to eat obediently.
While she ate properly, her mind didn’t rest. She thought back carefully and realized her Great Revenge Plan hadn’t progressed in ages! While Shen Chuli was busy paying the bill, she opened her “Revenge Steps Memo” for the first time in a while. The progress had been stuck on Step 2 for too long…
This wouldn’t do!
Chen Suihe was about to rally her spirits, but then she thought of everything Shen Chuli had done for her, and she wilted again. When Shen Chuli turned back after paying, she saw the girl sitting on a red plastic chair, repeatedly switching between “rallying” and “wilting.” Clearly, she was struggling with something.
Just as she “rallied” again, Shen Chuli walked over. “Let’s go. Heading back.”
Hearing her voice, Chen Suihe stood up, her eyes blazing with fighting spirit. This was decided by the heavens! She stared at Shen Chuli with a burning gaze: Grandmother Heaven decided I must continue the Great Revenge Plan!
Shen Chuli found her gaze strange, wondering what was twisting around in that little head of hers. But that didn’t stop her from taking Chen Suihe home. “Let’s go,” Shen Chuli stepped forward and took her hand. “Home.”
The small town was filled with green tiles and grey bricks, exuding an ancient charm. The small courtyard they lived in was at the end of a long street, next to a fragrant osmanthus tree.
Upon returning to the courtyard, Chen Suihe made an excuse to go to the bedroom first. A moment later, Shen Chuli’s phone began to chime incessantly. It was the notification sound for the browsing software she had specially made for Chen Suihe; whenever Chen Suihe used the browser to search, she would receive a notification.
“How to seduce the same sex? How to make a roommate fall for me?” Shen Chuli read the popping-up questions in a low voice. After a moment, she couldn’t help but laugh. So, that back-and-forth between “rallying” and “wilting” at the stall was her struggling with this?
Shen Chuli rubbed her earlobe to calm her excitement. She had thought the girl had given up and felt a bit disappointed.
In the bedroom, Chen Suihe was diligently researching the “Grand Method of Seduction.” She was no longer like the beginner who only listened to one source. She was now “Niu-hu-lu” Suihe, gathering wisdom from a hundred schools of thought, vowing to take down Shen Chuli in one go!
Try… try her best!
Because she had deflated at the very beginning and made a bad start, Chen Suihe was now being exceptionally cautious and meticulous with every subsequent step.
