Chapter 22: Stealing the Wife in a Romance Reality Show (Part 5)
As if desperate to be noticed, that person spammed several posts in a row, all accusing Chen Suihe of using “unclean” methods to steal resources from a minor celebrity.
The other party named Chen Suihe directly in their accusations. Naturally, the viewers who liked Chen Suihe weren’t having it; they confronted her directly in the live chat, demanding she produce evidence. However, the accuser became hesitant and vague, merely shifting blame without posting a single piece of solid proof.
Initially, some kind-hearted viewers advised her to defend her legal rights, but after watching for a while, it became clear the other party couldn’t produce any facts and was just whining incessantly. The audience got fed up and collectively reported the user. Seeing the account banned, the actress—who had stood up the producer before filming—smashed her phone onto the ground in a fit of rage.
Inside the live stream, Chen Suihe was still arguing her case with the producer, debating the usefulness of “bottom-of-the-pot” black foundation from every possible angle.
“Wait! Sisters, that means Shen Chuli knew from the very beginning that Monkey Baby was wearing makeup!”
The “Sherlocks” of the bullet comments came online in droves.
“More than that, she went to Monkey Baby’s room this morning. She probably saw her bare face then!”
“What a scheming woman! Using the “retreat to advance” tactic to trap my daughter, and even peeking at her bare face in secret! As a cyber-mother-in-law, I am the first to oppose this marriage!”
Seeing the “child” persist in her obsession, the producer raised a hand to cut off her argument. “Raise. In. Salary.” Three simple words, sounding like heavenly music, made Chen Suihe shut her mouth instantly. Her eyes sparkled as she nodded vigorously. “But,” the producer added with a twist, gritting her teeth slightly, “throw away that bottle you’re hoarding!”
Chen Suihe felt conflicted. She stole a tiny glance at Shen Chuli standing beside her—a small movement the producer caught immediately. The wrongly accused head of the makeup department saw it too; she clutched her heart in mock agony, first pointing a finger at Shen Chuli’s behavior from a moral high ground, then turning to the producer to demand compensation for “psychological trauma.”
The producer temporarily plugged her ears. She stuffed the pre-arranged “Date Gift Pack” into Shen Chuli’s hand and shooed them away like a shepherd herding sheep.
As the two were “evicted” from the Heartbeat Cottage, Chen Suihe poked her head over to look at the thick envelope in Shen Chuli’s hand, her curiosity impossible to hide. Sensing her interest, Shen Chuli opened the envelope and took everything out.
“Amusement park, zoo, cinema…” Chen Suihe counted them one by one. It felt like the producer, in her rush to get some sleep, had shoved all the date tickets for the next several episodes into this one envelope. There were so many! How could they visit them all?
Chen Suihe and Shen Chuli huddled together whispering for a long time. They picked out a single ticket for the zoo and returned the rest to the staff. Since Shen Chuli was a famous actress, Chen Suihe looked at her thoughtfully before personally stepping in to disguise her.
To avoid causing a commotion, the live feed for their specific line was cut, leaving only two cameramen to follow them. Chen Suihe hadn’t been to a zoo in a long time; everything looked novel to her. She bought a pile of merchandise and souvenirs, ensuring she wasn’t biased—she got a set for every single guest.
When it came time to pay, Shen Chuli beat her to it. Chen Suihe stood there blankly, turning her head to look at her. Shen Chuli coughed and picked up a pair of fluffy panda headbands: “These are so cute. Can I buy one?” “Buy it!” Under the offensive of Shen Chuli’s gaze, “Sugar-Mommy Suihe” boldly settled the bill.
It was a pair of “couple” headbands. After Chen Suihe paid, Shen Chuli took the one with a little flower and placed it on Suihe’s head, putting the one with bamboo leaves on her own. The black-and-white pandas on the headbands wobbled—it couldn’t be any cuter.
Because they bought quite a lot, Shen Chuli proactively helped carry the load. At first, they each carried one side of the bags, but slowly and unknowingly, all the shopping bags ended up in Shen Chuli’s hands.
In the zoo, Chen Suihe played like she had returned home. By the time they reached the cottage, the sky was completely dark. After walking all day, Chen Suihe only now felt tired enough to collapse. She slumped onto the sofa, the panda headband on her head trembling. Seeing Shen Chuli enter with a pile of bags, she scrambled up to help.
Heavens! Chen Suihe, you’ve got some nerve letting the Movie Queen carry your things! The fatigue on her face was so deep that even the “bottom-of-the-pot” black foundation couldn’t cover it. Shen Chuli laughed and gave her a few bags, keeping the heavy ones for herself.
Jiang Wan walked over with his specialty sandwiches. Seeing them laden with bags, he asked curiously. Chen Suihe pulled out the four identical sets of gifts from the shopping bags and distributed them. Shen Chuli followed her, helping hand out the gifts to Jiang Wan and the others.
“We picked out these souvenirs together, hope you like them,” Chen Suihe said with a smile. “But Chuli paid for them, so you should just thank Chuli!” Shen Chuli smiled and didn’t say a word. Even though they were just handing out souvenirs, it somehow gave off the distinct vibe of a wedding couple handing out wedding candy.
Once the souvenirs were distributed, Chen Suihe’s social energy was completely depleted. She took a few bites of the sandwich Jiang Wan made and said she was full. Dragging her exhausted legs, she floated back to her room like a wandering ghost.
“How can she eat so little? She’ll be hungry in the middle of the night,” Jiang Wan said, watching her head upstairs. Yet in the time it took him to turn around, the half-eaten sandwich left on the dining table mysteriously vanished!
Jiang Wan rubbed his eyes and looked again. “Jiang Suizhou!” He grabbed his teammate’s arm in shock and pointed at the empty table with total gravity: “There’s a ghost in our cottage! Suihe’s unfinished sandwich has disappeared!” Jiang Suizhou shifted his gaze, saw Shen Chuli give a slight nod, and then looked away, patting Jiang Wan’s head: “It was probably cleared away. Don’t scare yourself.”
After a deep sleep, Chen Suihe hummed and stretched. She rubbed her growling stomach and looked at the pitch-black sky outside the window with some hesitation. She touched her face; her palms came away black.
She struggled out of bed and ducked into the bathroom for a shower. Water droplets fell from her hair onto her snowy-white collarbone, sliding down her fair skin. The “Mochi version” of Sui-sui was fresh out of the oven!
Loosely tying her bathrobe, Chen Suihe was too lazy to blow-dry her hair. She sat on the edge of the bed and started surfing the web. The terrifying Big Data had captured her recent searches and pushed a beautiful “GL ship” to her homepage!
Chen Suihe couldn’t help but marvel at the superb editing skills of the “Video Cutters.” With just a few videos under a minute long, she was knocked straight into the fandom—her “shipper brain” was on fire! She skillfully switched to the “Grain Bin” (fandom app) and hummed a little tune as she typed the name of the beautiful CP into the search bar: #LiYang.
In the Grain Bin app, every shipper is transparent. To facilitate offline meetups, the app allows users to see the distance of the nearest fellow shipper within the same fandom.
However, tonight was perhaps not a good night for “eating grain.” As soon as she entered the homepage, Chen Suihe was nearly dealt a fatal blow. A user with the nickname “suisui number one in the world” was only ten meters away from Chen Suihe—and was frantically tearing her ship apart!
Even bolder, they were promoting another CP inside the #LiYang fandom bin! Chen Suihe clicked in to check and found it was actually a fandom bin for herself and Shen Chuli. Some #ChuSui CP? It was a stain on their pure friendship! A hateful “heretic cult” and a rival ship!
With just one refresh, #LiYang was reported and turned into a 404 error page. Before the meal could even start, the grain bin had been demolished by the rival side!
Chen Suihe was fuming. Rolling up her sleeves, she marched out of her room, ready to see who this hateful rival was! The “Mochi Sui-sui” bravely set out, poking her head out and discovering the lights in the living room were still on. She crept downstairs, intending to investigate.
Before even reaching the bottom of the stairs, Chen Suihe smelled something burning. Listening closely, she could hear voices. She followed the commotion to the kitchen and discovered there were people inside!
A staff member was holding a phone, watching something and giving instructions. Under her step-by-step guidance, Shen Chuli was clumsily manipulating a “rebellious” spatula. Chen Suihe walked over, staring suspiciously at the staff member who was frantically helping Shen Chuli turn off the stove.
Is it her? Chen Suihe thought, narrowing her eyes.
A moment later, a plate of “Carbon Black Scrambled Eggs”—freshly scorched due to the high heat—was served. The thick black smoke made them cough, but fearing they would wake others, they covered their mouths and coughed silently.
“Suihe?” Shen Chuli saw Chen Suihe in her bathrobe first, looking surprised. “Did I make too much noise and wake you?”
Seeing the black soot on her cheek, Chen Suihe couldn’t help but laugh. She shook her head, looked at the mess in the kitchen, and let out a sigh. She rolled up her sleeves, preparing to help Shen Chuli clean up the mess.
Seeing Chen Suihe arrive, the staff member let out a huge sigh of relief, greeted her, and left while yawning. Seeing Shen Chuli with flushed cheeks, following her around sheepishly to help out, Chen Suihe found the “cute” look absolutely precious. After all, Shen Chuli had always been cold and elegant; this was the first time she had shown such a soft and adorable side.
After cleaning the kitchen and feeling her growling stomach, Chen Suihe whipped up two bowls of light, plain egg noodles. Shen Chuli smiled and thanked her, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
Ding-dong. Shen Chuli’s phone screen lit up. She put down her chopsticks and opened her phone. Seeing what seemed to be a satisfying message, a trace of a smile escaped the corners of her mouth.
After devouring her noodles in a few bites, Chen Suihe wiped her mouth, picked up her phone, and refreshed the app. The appeal for the #LiYang grain bin had failed. Chen Suihe was almost dead from anger; she couldn’t help but curse the reporting rival to never have noodles in their instant ramen cup again!
She habitually clicked into the profile of “suisui number one in the world.”
Current distance: one meter.
Chen Suihe’s head snapped up. She looked in disbelief at Shen Chuli, whose phone screen was lit up across from her.
A startling thought suddenly sprang to life in her mind.
