Chapter 2: Second Bloom
She possessed an exceptionally ascetic-looking face, with a beauty mark near the outer corner of her left eye that added a touch of allure to her features, lessening the overly oppressive coldness. Her delicately made-up features were exquisite and beautiful, with a clean, fair complexion—the kind of attractive cool-toned white skin.
Lu Chaoqing was absolutely certain she couldn’t mistake this appearance, but having a relationship with her “sister” was simply too awkward. Lu Chaoqing was a considerate person and would never make things difficult for others.
And she absolutely couldn’t endure the social death in front of her parents!
With this thought, the young girl’s bright, watery eyes narrowed into a crescent moon. Lu Chaoqing’s voice was very sweet, and the upturned end of her words carried a hint of coquetry: “Sister is so beautiful! I like Sister so much!”
She used the term “Sister” rather than the simpler “Sis”, clearly differentiating it from the way one addresses a close relative.
Lin Chumu shot her a half-smile that wasn’t quite a smile. That sharp, veiled gaze made Lu Chaoqing shiver involuntarily. But before she could say anything else, she was gently pushed away. The girl, after her initial surprise, walked past her expressionlessly, not sparing her a single glance.
Half an hour later, the family was relaxing in the living room after dinner. Lu Chaoqing’s eyes drifted towards Lin Chumu from time to time. The moment their eyes met, the latter turned her head away with an unreadable expression, seemingly unwilling to look at her again.
The Lu family always maintained a rule of silence during meals. Consequently, the two barely spoke after sitting down at the dinner table, only occasionally communicating or clashing with their eyes.
“Qingqing, if your interview is successful this time, how long can you stay when you come back? Do you have half a month?”
Sitting next to her was a beautiful middle-aged woman. The passage of time hadn’t left many traces on Mother Lu’s face, and even though she was no longer young, her voice was still as gentle as a nightingale’s song.
In the original novel, Mother Lu had developed a deep, twenty-year attachment to this fake daughter, so even after the real daughter returned, she was still more partial to Lu Chaoqing. This was evident from her immediately asking about Lu Chaoqing’s job. Lu Chaoqing smiled sweetly at Mother Lu, outwardly calm, but her heart was surging with turbulent waves.
She felt Lin Chumu’s gaze suddenly fix on her face, piercing like needles and making her uncomfortable all over. It was as if Lu Chaoqing only needed to say one wrong word for Lin Chumu to come right over and devour her alive.
Perhaps due to the residual influence of the original body’s emotions, Lu Chaoqing always felt a sense of fear when facing the formidable female protagonist of the story, instinctively wanting to avoid her. She could feel that the original body must have disliked Lin Chumu, yet before their official meeting, the two had already been intimate.
What could be more awkward than a one-night stand with a woman?
There was: a one-night stand with the sister who had just been recognized and brought home.
Overcoming the obstruction of Father Lu’s tall figure, Lu Chaoqing clearly saw Lin Chumu’s cold demeanor in the bright light, showing no reaction to her “sister” potentially having more time to spend with the family.
Lin Chumu was like a meticulously carved ice sculpture, radiating an imposing aura that warned others to keep their distance. The last time Lu Chaoqing saw a significant expression from her was when she rushed into her arms at the door. After Lu Chaoqing awkwardly finished her opening lines and looked up, she saw a clear, cold face marked with intense… dislike and suspicion.
A slight, involuntary look of grievance flashed across Lu Chaoqing’s face.
She only snapped out of her thoughts when Mother Lu called her name several times, and she quickly gave an answer. Then, she gently pressed her forehead, her eyes filled with the exhaustion of long travel: “Dad, Mom,” her voice was very soft, but not to the point of being cloying, conveying a perfect blend of sweetness and fragility, “I want to sleep for a bit today. The training has been too exhausting recently, and my phone ran out of battery and turned off earlier, so I forgot to answer Mom’s call.”
Father Lu said calmly: “Then, Xiao Qing, go rest. We can talk about anything tomorrow. Xiao Chu, you stay here for a moment.”
Lin Chumu “en-ed.” She was about to speak after Lu Chaoqing left, but the girl quickly darted around and stood in front of her again. In front of the two elders, she gently took Lin Chumu’s wrist, brought it under her nose, and inhaled with an intoxicated expression: “Good night, Sister. You smell so good.”
The moment their skin touched, Lin Chumu instinctively wanted to pull her hand back, but under the gaze of the two elders, she couldn’t appear too cold to Lu Chaoqing, so she reluctantly allowed her to hold it.
The tip of the girl’s nose lightly touched her hand, whether intentionally or not.
“Mwah!”
Lu Chaoqing tilted her head as if to kiss Lin Chumu’s cheek, but sensing the other party’s instinctive resistance, she stopped a few inches away. Seeing that the moment was ripe, she turned and walked towards the bathroom.
APP: “Congratulations on completing the first task! Reward: 3 Survival Points!”
System 77 flattered her gleefully: “To use such a method to disgust the female protagonist, Host, you are truly something.”
“That goes without saying.” Lu Chaoqing happily stripped off her clothes in the bathroom to prepare for a shower. Feeling the residual soreness on her body, she couldn’t help but gently squeeze her overly slender waist. While angry at Lin Chumu’s denial after the fact, she continued to talk to 77, “Little cutie, if I perform diligently, can you be even happier?”
“If you’re happier…” the girl lowered her voice with a beaming smile, “Can I get some feedback rewards?”
System 77 was a novice in the system world and naturally couldn’t compare to Lu Chaoqing’s “mature and practiced” manipulation skills. It became a little dizzy from her calling it “little cutie” and quickly asked: “What reward do you want?”
“I checked the APP, and the plot updates there are too slow. I haven’t read this book, so I don’t know many things that will happen next.” Lu Chaoqing unfolded a makeup wipe and carefully wiped away the residual eyeshadow. “If possible, please remind me first when you encounter unexpected situations, or else I’m afraid I’ll drag you down. After all, you work so hard, and it would be terrible if I messed things up for you.”
77 was unusually generous in this regard: “No problem, Host! Leave it to me!”
Although the system closed its viewing channel after she entered the bathroom and couldn’t see her, Lu Chaoqing still unconsciously gave a sweet smile: “Thank you, 77. You’re so kind.”
The room Lin Chumu returned to did not have an independent bathroom. That area was designed as a spare yoga room. On the second floor of the three-story house, only Lu Chaoqing’s bedroom and the maid’s guest room had access. Lu Chaoqing’s bathroom required her to step out and walk next door, meaning the two now needed to share one.
After their conversation, Lin Chumu took her change of clothes and headed to the dimly lit bathroom to shower. Unexpectedly, just before she could enter the door, she bumped into someone head-on. The crisp scent of lemon and mint wafted from the top of the girl’s head into her nostrils. Seeing Lu Chaoqing, who was deep in thought, stumble and nearly fall, Lin Chumu instinctively reached out to grab her.
The little green tea’s wrist was very thin, feeling like it would break with a gentle squeeze, utterly filled with a sense of fragility. Her freshly washed skin was smooth and clean, still carrying a slight film of water, cool and slippery like a fish.
She had to admit the feel was excellent.
Lowering her gaze in the dark and meeting Lu Chaoqing’s confused stare, Lin Chumu belatedly realized her lapse and, somewhat roughly, shook her off.
“Sister!”
Lin Chumu seemed to have used a little too much strength just now. The little green tea cried out in pain, calling her name in the darkness. Her voice was very light, like a frightened little bird flapping its wings and escaping from her side.
A surge of inexplicable frustration welled up in her.
She had always despised people like this the most and desperately wanted to say, “Who is your sister?” but the words were suppressed before they could leave her mouth. In the dim light, she couldn’t see the little green tea’s expression, but Lin Chumu knew that being mean to her at this moment would not benefit herself.
She had been too agitated before, unable to control her emotions.
Her five fingers clenched into a fist, then immediately relaxed. When she looked at Lu Chaoqing again, Lin Chumu had adopted a peaceful expression. She even reached out, bent her finger, and tapped Lu Chaoqing’s forehead. Her voice was gentle and natural: “Sorry, I accidentally hurt you. How about I blow on it for you?”
Lu Chaoqing looked at her with a hint of surprise, seemingly astonished by Lin Chumu’s sudden change in attitude. She didn’t dodge, and in the next moment, those soft fingertips were already pressed against her head, lightly tapping Lu Chaoqing’s forehead.
The moisture on her skin melted onto the woman’s fingertips. The proximity, closer than normal social distance, allowed them to hear each other’s beating hearts. The warm air mingled with their breaths. Lu Chaoqing couldn’t help but twitch her nose and sniff, catching an unfamiliar scent of perfume on her.
Before she could identify the scent, Lin Chumu gently finished rubbing Lu Chaoqing’s forehead and curled her fingers, lightly touching her shoulder.
Lu Chaoqing glanced in the direction of her little finger’s final pointer, her heart instantly contracting violently. She instinctively covered her still aching waist.
Unfortunately, Lin Chumu gave her no chance to refuse, opening and then closing the bathroom door directly.
Staring at the faint glow coming from Lin Chumu’s bedroom, Lu Chaoqing clenched her fist, gritting her teeth.
“Host, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” System 77 reactivated its viewing permissions after she left the bathroom and asked worriedly, seeing Lu Chaoqing’s poor complexion.
“It’s fine.”
After a moment of silence, System 77 heard Lu Chaoqing’s muffled voice coming from her throat, tinged with shame, shyness, and a feeling of utter helplessness.
Just now, as Lin Chumu’s hand slid down her shoulder, she had seemingly unintentionally pointed towards her room. In that instant, all of Lu Chaoqing’s earlier twists and turns of thought were clarified.
All that talk of a cold, unattainable beauty was a misunderstanding; Lin Chumu’s intention was obvious—she clearly wanted to sleep with her again.
But no matter what, she had to be a qualified mission performer.
Lu Chaoqing felt the words she wanted to say next were a little difficult to utter, but for the sake of her waist being able to handle the interview tomorrow, she just gave up and asked: “77, before I do anything else, I have an unreasonable request.”
“What is it, Host?”
“Could you please activate a cheat so that the female protagonist’s technique… improves a little?”
