- Chapter 2 - Chance Encounter
Shi Nuocen ran a hand through her still-disheveled hair, staring irritably at the firmly shut gates of the Shi family mansion. With an annoyed click of her tongue, she crouched down and unzipped her silver suitcase to see what her older sister had packed for her.
To her dismay, she found only a spring/autumn trench coat, an ugly bra, and several pairs of extremely conservative panties!
Growing even more frustrated, Shi Nuocen turned her head and shouted, “Hey! At least give me a pair of pants!”
“Get lost!!!” came her sister’s even more furious voice from behind the door.
“Hmph! You can kick me out, but you’re not allowed to use my Chanel, Hermès, Givenchy or my bathtub studded with Swarovski crystals! Got it? And you’re not allowed to drive the limited-edition Bugatti supercar either, hear me?” Shi Nuocen yelled while pounding on the door, adding rhythmically:
“If you hear me squeak once!”
Crash! The response was the sound of a vase shattering.
“Tch! Must be menopause!” Shi Nuocen grumbled, picking up her suitcase. But as misfortune never comes alone, the truth of that saying struck her. The telescopic handle was stuck at the second notch and refused to extend.
“Hey! Can you at least give me a different suitcase? This one’s broken!”
Just when she thought there’d be no reply, the gate creaked open!
“Sis! I love you!” Overjoyed, Shi Nuocen prepared to charge inside headfirst, only to find Shi Fanxing blocking the entrance like an unbreachable fortress. Wielding a broom in one hand and a rolling pin in the other, she glared fiercely.
The rolling pin swung through the air, its flour-dusted end pointing straight at Shi Nuocen. A mocking smile curled her red lips as she sneered, “My dear little sister, save your declarations of love. I’m just here to give you something and remind you that time is tight. You’d better hurry.”
With that, she tossed over a slender object.
Shi Nuocen caught it and her eyebrow twitched. It was an extremely old-fashioned watch!
“Seriously! At least give me a phone!” But this request was mercilessly denied!
Now she fully understood her sister’s resolve. Their parents hadn’t shown their faces either, clearly tacitly approving of her sister’s actions.
Broke and penniless, Shi Nuocen had no choice but to bow to fate. The quickest way to get money was to find her ex-wife!
Having sorted out her thoughts, Shi Nuocen looked up, meeting Shi Fanxing’s gaze without flinching, though her expression was uneasy. “Sis, do you have Ru Xi Cheng’s contact information?”
“Oh, so you’ve decided to seek out your ex-wife after all.” Shi Fanxing smiled knowingly but soon spread her hands helplessly. “If you don’t know, how would I?”
Shi Nuocen pouted in disappointment, but the next moment, her sister added leisurely, “However, I can give you a tip. Your ex-wife has a three-year-old niece whom she dotes on immensely. And you, my dear, have a natural charm with children. So, if you want to get close to the adult, start by winning over the child.”
“You want me to suck up to some little brat?!” Shi Nuocen’s eyes widened, and she muttered, “Sure, I’m good with kids, but you know how much I hate dealing with them. Their constant chattering drives me insane!”
“But Ru Xi Cheng’s niece is different. I hear she’s well-behaved, sensible, and a bit shy around strangers,” Shi Fanxing added slowly.
Hearing this, Shi Nuocen grew even more suspicious of her sister’s intentions. She asked skeptically, “How do you know all this so clearly? You’re definitely up to no good!”
Shi Fanxing knew her sister was quick-witted the more she said, the more mistakes she might make so she immediately retorted, “Anyway, I’ve given you my advice. Whether you take it or not is up to you!”
With that, she slammed the door shut with a bang, her demeanor somewhat resembling a hasty retreat!
The sound of the door slamming startled Shi Nuocen, who couldn’t help but rub her forehead and raise her voice:
“Hmph, guilty conscience! I bet you’ve had your eye on the Ru family’s business for a while, hoping to collaborate and get a share of the profits!”
“Say whatever you want!” Shi Fanxing pushed open the window and pointed at the sun in the sky. “I think you should worry about your own stomach first. It’s almost past noon, and an empty belly isn’t a pleasant feeling!”
After saying this, she closed the window tightly and drew the curtains, ignoring whatever Shi Nuocen said from that point on.
“Playing the good person now! The fact that I’m starving is all thanks to you!”
Today was absolutely the most humiliating day of her 24 years as the second young lady of the Shi family! Without a doubt!
Shi Nuocen lowered her gaze to the stuck luggage handle and frowned. Recalling how others had handled similar situations, she reached down, lifted the hem of her nightgown, and tried to tear off a long strip of fabric.
But perhaps she applied force at the wrong angle, for with a sharp ripping sound, the fabric tore upward. Now, with every step she took, a pale, bare thigh was exposed.
Oh well, she’d just treat it as a high slit! Shi Nuocen’s mindset was still fairly positive. The Shi family lived in a standalone villa, the only house within a mile radius. Walking around wouldn’t risk anyone seeing her, but the downside was that she had to walk quite a distance to hail a taxi. She had a plan: as soon as she got into a cab, she’d head straight to her best friend’s place. After all, she could pay upon arrival!
But she still had to take the suitcase with her. Even though the clothes inside were too ugly to look at, they were all designer brands. She could sell them online for a decent secondhand price!
So, the only solution now was. She opened the suitcase, her eyes shifting between the bras and panties. The bras were undeniably ugly, but she only had one. If she damaged it and ended up needing it later, she’d have nothing to wear.
Thus, Shi Nuocen selected the pair of panties she disliked the most from the bunch, rolled them into a stick-like shape, and after making sure they no longer resembled their original form, she threaded them through the luggage handle, folded them over, and then, gripping both ends of the makeshift “stick,” strode forward boldly.
She had assumed she wouldn’t run into anyone on the road, so her movements were a bit rough and unrefined. But she never expected to encounter her ex-wife!
Her ex-wife was driving a red supercar worth 680 million, speeding past like a flash, leaving behind a crimson streak that seemed to slice through space. At that moment, Shi Nuocen didn’t yet know who the driver was. She only paused in her tracks to gaze admiringly at the car, recognizing it as a top-tier limited edition model.
But then, to her surprise, the supercar abruptly reversed at an extreme acceleration, covering the distance in just three seconds!
Just as Shi Nuocen was wondering what was happening, the car’s doors opened in an incredibly cool manner, spreading out like wings, revealing the driver. A woman gripping the steering wheel, wearing rose-tinted sunglasses.
The lady driver first brushed aside the stray strands of hair by her ear, her eyes peering through the twilight-hued lenses as she looked the other woman up and down. Then, her pink lips parted slightly as she let out a soft, deliberate laugh. “Well, long time no see. How did you end up in such a sorry state? Truly, the wheel of fortune keeps turning.”
