Chapter 46: “Rong Wei, you bastard.”
No future?
These few simple words were like a blunt knife stabbing directly into Rong Wei’s heart, causing an agonizing dull pain.
Suddenly, Rong Wei felt an unfamiliar sense of panic.
Things had spiraled out of control, completely exceeding her grasp.
She had originally thought that after their talk, there might be some bumps and unhappiness, but she had absolutely not anticipated that Jiang Yu would want to leave her.
Rong Wei didn’t want this result, nor did she want to hear Jiang Yu say such things.
The sky outside the window was terrifyingly dark, and the howling wind left a loud noise in her ears.
Rong Wei silently looked at Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu had none of her former ease and comfort; she was staring fixedly at Rong Wei, as if she were her enemy.
Jiang Yu opened her mouth, intending to say something more.
Rong Wei could read Jiang Yu’s lips—she was about to say her name.
A string in her heart instantly snapped. Rong Wei stood up abruptly, walked to Jiang Yu almost involuntarily, wrapped her arms around her waist, and, under Jiang Yu’s gaze, kissed her directly, blocking the words she was about to speak.
Jiang Yu clearly hadn’t expected Rong Wei to suddenly move in and kiss her; her eyes widened instantly.
Rong Wei kissed very forcefully, and the sound of ambiguous entanglement immediately filled the room.
Jiang Yu, however, felt only suffocated. She frowned and tried forcefully to push Rong Wei away with both hands.
But Rong Wei held her too tightly, and her arm strength from rock climbing was too powerful. At this moment, Jiang Yu couldn’t push Rong Wei away; she even had the illusion of being clamped down.
Rong Wei seemed to have gone mad, Jiang Yu thought to herself.
She couldn’t let things continue this way.
Jiang Yu moved her foot, stomped hard on Rong Wei’s foot, and then bit Rong Wei’s lip fiercely.
The sound of flesh tearing reached her eardrum, followed by a metallic, bloody taste.
Jiang Yu seemed to hear Rong Wei gasp, but even so, Rong Wei didn’t seem to have any intention of letting her go.
Jiang Yu was furious. She bit Rong Wei’s lip again and then rammed her elbow into Rong Wei’s abdomen.
The sudden, dull pain was irresistible. Jiang Yu distinctly felt Rong Wei’s grip around her loosen considerably. She seized the opportunity to break free, raised her hand, looked at Rong Wei’s face, and slapped her precisely.
“Rong Wei, you bastard,” Jiang Yu said coldly, emphasizing the insult.
The crisp sound and the angry voice simultaneously echoed in the room.
The lingering sensations of pain in her abdomen and cheek seemed to finally bring Rong Wei back to her senses.
She turned around and looked at Jiang Yu, her entire demeanor extraordinarily sharp. Her icy blue eyes were devoid of their usual tenderness and looked extremely cold.
Jiang Yu gasped, feeling that Rong Wei in this state was very dangerous.
But she had no regrets. Instead, she lifted her chin and stared steadily back at Rong Wei.
Her lipstick was completely smeared, and there were faint traces of blood around her lips. Her neat shirt was wrinkled in an undignified way.
This seemed to be the first time Jiang Yu had seen Rong Wei looking so disheveled.
The torrential rain outside the window continued.
Rong Wei took two steps back, leaned against the table, and spoke: “I apologize, I was impulsive just now. I hope you can forgive me.”
After saying this, she took a deep breath and continued, “Going to the Civil Affairs Bureau is fine. But you say we aren’t suitable, where exactly are we unsuitable?”
“Starting and ending are decisions that take two people. I believe I have the right to know about this matter.”
Jiang Yu knew that on this issue, she and Rong Wei were fundamentally unable to communicate.
Rong Wei didn’t feel she was wrong in any way. At least for now, she didn’t think she had a problem.
Jiang Yu sneered, pulled out a chair, and sat down. She decided to be direct: “General Manager Rong, your question truly makes me feel ridiculous.”
“But it’s not surprising. You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and have never experienced any hardship in the world. It’s normal not to understand.”
“But I ask you, if you were me, and were played for a fool like a monkey, would you be happy?”
“I can’t be like you, standing high above as an observer, to appreciate the joys and sorrows of others.”
Jiang Yu had already said these things yesterday, and she didn’t want to repeat herself endlessly. After briefly mentioning it, she immediately gave her final reasons.
“Rong Wei, you are cold, arrogant, insincere, and not honest enough.”
“I don’t like being with someone like you.”
“Now that I’ve said this much, do you understand?”
An unfamiliar sense of powerlessness welled up in Rong Wei’s heart.
She was somewhat stunned. Seeing that Jiang Yu was about to speak again, she sighed softly, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s my fault for making you feel uncomfortable.”
At this moment, Jiang Yu’s mood was not good.
Rong Wei took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and showed it to Jiang Yu: “If you want a divorce, I agree.”
“However, I have a very important meeting to attend in a little while.”
“So, today won’t work.”
Jiang Yu glanced at Rong Wei and laughed: “Alright, then just call me when you, General Manager Rong, are free.”
Saying this, she looked down at the breakfast on the table: “I won’t eat. I’m leaving now.”
Rong Wei remained silent, looking at the heavy rain outside the window.
“The rain outside is heavy.”
Jiang Yu didn’t look back, her tone indifferent: “I know. I brought an umbrella, and I have the driver waiting downstairs for me.”
With that, the heavy door closed, making a muffled thud.
Rong Wei stared at the direction Jiang Yu had left, feeling a long-lost inability to fully recover.
She just left, leaving only herself in the house now.
Rong Wei leaned against the chair and dabbed at her lip.
To be honest, Jiang Yu’s bite was very hard. The wound hadn’t scabbed yet and still had a strong bloody smell.
But strangely, this made it feel like Jiang Yu hadn’t left.
Rong Wei’s mood was certainly not good.
She got up, frowned, and lit a cigarette.
She didn’t have much of a smoking habit and disliked people addicted to smoking. Often, she just felt that smoking was a good way to adjust the atmosphere.
But this time, the menthol blast bead popped in her mouth, and the cool sensation suddenly made her feel refreshed.
This feeling didn’t seem bad.
Rong Wei stood quietly. After a long while, she took out her phone and told her assistant to postpone today’s meeting by an hour. Then, after hesitating for a long time, she called Rong Shi.
Rong Shi was probably still asleep and didn’t answer her call immediately.
Rong Wei let out a long breath, feeling extremely vexed.
Exactly twenty minutes later, after Rong Wei had smoked four cigarettes, her phone vibrated.
It was Rong Shi video calling her back.
Rong Wei clicked to connect and saw Rong Shi on the screen.
The background on her end was dark; she was still in bed, clearly having just woken up.
“Sister, what is it?”
Rong Shi was a little surprised that her sister was calling her at this hour. She leaned against the headboard, turned on the light, and asked.
What is it?
Honestly, for a moment, Rong Wei truly didn’t know how to start the conversation.
In the silent pause, Rong Shi gradually became more alert.
She suddenly noticed an unusual patch of redness on Rong Wei’s lip. Although her expression looked calm, Rong Shi somehow felt that Rong Wei looked a little tired.
Rong Shi thought carefully, remembering that Rong Wei had hardly rested since taking over the company. Assuming she was exhausted, she asked, “Sister, are you a little tired?”
“Why don’t I call Ms. Rong and ask her to come back and take charge for a couple of days while you take a break?”
Rong Wei opened her mouth and sighed, “It’s fine. Let Ms. Rong enjoy her retirement.”
It wasn’t because she was tired.
Rong Shi quietly watched Rong Wei.
After a moment of silence, a bold idea popped into her mind.
Could it be that something had gone wrong between her sister and Jiang Yu?
Rong Shi pondered quietly, and the more she thought about it, the more likely the possibility seemed. She cautiously asked, “Did something happen with your friend, Sister?”
Rong Wei paused, surprised that Rong Shi was so sharp.
She hesitated for a moment, then spoke softly, “There was a bit of a problem.”
“My friend recently met the person she likes under the identity of her ex-wife, but a conflict occurred between them, and it seems like they are going to completely break up.”
“My friend doesn’t want to break up with her and is a bit lost about how to resolve the situation.”
Rong Shi’s right eyelid twitched violently. She carefully asked, “Sister, do you know how your friend talked to the other person?”
Rong Wei, of course, remembered. Furthermore, she clearly recalled every word Jiang Yu had said and could completely recount it.
She organized her thoughts, simplified the events, and explained the situation to Rong Shi.
Rong Shi quietly listened to Rong Wei talk, and the more she listened, the more her head ached.
In her eyes, the way her sister handled the matter was far from perfect.
She had originally thought that Rong Wei would talk to Jiang Yu properly and sincerely apologize, as she had suggested.
She really hadn’t expected her sister to speak that way.
Perhaps it wasn’t much different from her usual way of speaking, but in this kind of situation, how could she speak with such a high and mighty tone?!
Rong Shi’s expression became increasingly complex. By the time Rong Wei’s voice stopped, she let out a helpless sigh: “To be honest, I think it’s very normal for the person your friend likes to be so angry.”
“If it were me, knowing there was someone who was constantly paying attention to me, as if waiting to watch me make a fool of myself, I would also feel annoyed and disgusted.”
“Being played with, of course, leads to anger. Moreover, the most crucial thing is that everyone has self-respect. What your friend did is no different from casually trampling on someone’s dignity.”
Listening to Rong Shi’s words, Rong Wei involuntarily frowned.
“Are you saying there’s genuinely no chance for them now?”
Rong Shi sighed, able to imagine her sister’s attitude when speaking. Based on her understanding of Jiang Yu, it was probably difficult.
Afraid of hurting Rong Wei’s feelings, she offered comfort: “From my perspective, there really isn’t much chance left.”
Rong Shi opened her mouth, sensing that Jiang Yu was very special to Rong Wei.
Since the situation had occurred, she didn’t want to see Rong Wei grieve too much over it, and she consoled her: “But your friend doesn’t need to blame herself. It’s her first time liking someone, so making mistakes isn’t unforgivable.
Besides, timely damage control for certain things and relationships isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”
Rong Wei quietly lit another cigarette, said she understood, exchanged a few simple pleasantries, and then hung up the phone.
At this moment, the room was very quiet.
Rong Wei let out a soft sigh, a sense of clarity dawning on her in hindsight.
For almost the first time, a feeling of regret surged through her.
This feeling was unpleasant, bringing with it a suffocating pain.
Rong Wei couldn’t help but wonder:
If she had clearly explained everything to Jiang Yu from the very beginning, would all these messy problems today never have happened?
