Chapter 41: “Replying to my ex-wife.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yu’s eyelids twitched violently.
The thought of having Rong Wei introduce girlfriends to her felt strange, no matter how she looked at it.
Her thoughts were scattered, but years of experience had long trained her to hide her emotions, even in front of the highly respected Aunt Rens.
She smiled, her tone particularly composed: “Sounds good, but I might have to trouble you then.”
Aunt Rens smiled, nodding with satisfaction: “No trouble at all, I’d be happy to.”
“Right, back to business.”
“For my final grand show before retirement, would you be interested in having your company’s young talents participate?”
“I can’t tell you the theme clearly yet, but after looking around, I still feel your team is the most suitable.”
Rens’s farewell show, of course, held unquestionable authority in the industry.
Before reconnecting with Rens, Jiang Yu had thought about reaching out to her staff, but due to various reasons, she had never put it into practice.
A hint of surprise flashed in Jiang Yu’s eyes, and she sincerely told Rens: “That would be my absolute honor. I won’t lie to you, I am extremely interested in your last-ever grand show.”
“I knew you’d be interested. I will send the contract to your company in due course.”
After saying this, Aunt Rens fell silent, looking at Jiang Yu, as if she had something more to say.
Jiang Yu noticed Aunt Rens’s hesitation and asked, “What is it?”
Aunt Rens just shook her head: “Nothing, just looking at you.”
Jiang Yu nodded, half-believing.
After a long time apart, and being in a private setting, Jiang Yu and Rens chatted for a long time, not leaving the restaurant until ten at night, just before closing time.
Before parting, Rens spontaneously hugged Jiang Yu and said again, “I’m very happy that we can reconnect.”
“I want to tell you one more time, let bygones be bygones. We both need to look forward.”
Jiang Yu hugged Rens, responding: “Me too, Aunt Rens.”
“I hope we can continue to collaborate this time.”
…
The matters concerning Qin Yuanshan and Qin Yan didn’t occupy much space in her mind.
Reconnecting with Aunt Rens through the Qijiang project made her happy.
Jiang Yu felt very satisfied. After returning home, she stored the gifts Ador and Jiang Bao Yi had prepared for her, then went to the cellar, took out a bottle of champagne, decanted it, and brought it to the media room.
The lighting in the media room was just right—not glaring, nor too dim. Lighting a stick of incense, the slightly bitter scent wafted into her nostrils, creating the perfect atmosphere for watching a movie.
Jiang Yu chose a war film that focused on human nature today.
Perhaps she was a bit tired, but Jiang Yu felt drowsy and soon drifted off to sleep.
In the dream, she arrived at a strange place.
Looking up, the sky was boundless, azure blue. Enveloped by this color, the surroundings were empty, and the most realistic sensation transmitted to her body made her feel very dizzy.
Jiang Yu simply lay down lightly on the ground.
At the moment she lay down, the scene in the dream switched.
She seemed to be lying on a soft bed, surrounded by boundless darkness, which made her feel terrified.
She felt like she was in an abyss. The previous light and azure blue seemed to have never existed.
Then, like riding a roller coaster, her body suddenly plunged, and all around her were the rustling sounds of vegetation.
Jiang Yu abruptly opened her eyes, focused on the TV, and saw that the screen was showing a scene of falling off a cliff.
Jiang Yu felt her dream was truly bizarre. She shook her head and let out a long breath.
Then, her gaze fell on the decanter in front of her, where the champagne was bubbling up.
Jiang Yu sobered up and took a sip of the wine.
The sweet yet rich, mineral feeling rushed through her mouth, seeming to relieve something.
…
It was Saturday again. Since Rong Wei had work, they didn’t go to the hotel together. Jiang Yu went home early. Remembering the chef she had contacted at the hotel, she asked her to prepare a delicious Chinese dinner.
The background of the five-star hotel chef had been thoroughly checked before her employment. Jiang Yu felt reassured about her. To ensure she could have a hot meal immediately upon returning home, she had given the chef the access code to her house early on.
When she returned home, she saw a black-haired woman, around fifty years old and with a kind face, bustling about in her dining area.
Jiang Yu smiled and greeted the chef, changed her clothes. When she came out, the chef said, “Miss Jiang, the dishes will be ready soon. You can come and eat.”
Jiang Yu nodded, sat down at the dining table, said thank you for her hard work, and was about to start eating when her phone vibrated.
Jiang Yu focused and saw it was a WeChat message from Rong Wei.
It was a photo of steak and salad, which looked like Rong Wei’s dinner.
But why would Rong Wei randomly send her a picture of her dinner?
Jiang Yu was a little surprised and sent a question mark back with one hand.
Rong Wei didn’t reply but instead placed a video call directly.
Jiang Yu rested her chin on her hand, thought for a moment, set up her phone, accepted the call, and asked, “What is it?”
Rong Wei didn’t speak immediately on her end.
Jiang Yu waited for Rong Wei’s answer and quietly observed Rong Wei’s figure.
Milan is in the Southern Hemisphere, and it was currently winter. Rong Wei had changed into heavier winter clothes.
Jiang Yu felt this might be the first time she had seen Rong Wei in a coat.
Compared to summer, Rong Wei in this attire looked more composed and exuded the high-intellect vibe of a mature woman.
Jiang Yu admitted she was smitten by the sight. At this moment, even though she couldn’t kiss, touch, or figure out what Rong Wei was doing, seeing her still made her happy.
Rong Wei smiled faintly, quietly looking at Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu must be at home. The background was a simple marble floor. She was wearing a pure black silk camisole and a noticeable emerald necklace.
“Nothing. It’s Saturday today. I thought there shouldn’t be a problem with us contacting each other. So I just gave you a call,” Rong Wei replied, realizing she hadn’t answered Jiang Yu’s question.
Jiang Yu couldn’t think of any words to refute this.
After all, it was indeed Saturday, the day they had agreed to meet and could contact each other. Rong Wei hadn’t broken any rules.
Jiang Yu simply nodded: “True. I was just about to eat.”
Jiang Yu glanced at the dinner prepared on Rong Wei’s end and said, “Should we eat together?”
Rong Wei replied candidly: “Sure.”
During their chat, the chef had finished the last dish, which was stir-fried seasonal vegetables, still steaming, with the unique fresh scent of greens.
“Miss Jiang, all the dinner is ready. Please enjoy your meal. Feel free to contact me anytime if you need anything in the future.”
Jiang Yu smiled and nodded. She took a sip of vegetable porridge and casually said, “The hotel chef is very skilled. I invited her to my house.”
“To occasionally prepare dinner for me or something.”
Through the camera, Rong Wei was cutting a piece of steak. The veins on the back of her hand stood out—a very pleasing sight.
“The taste is indeed good, but there’s something I need to clarify with you.”
Jiang Yu said “Mhm.”
Rong Wei: “This isn’t the hotel’s chef. This is the housekeeper I brought from home.”
“…”
Jiang Yu was stunned, looking at Rong Wei with suspicion for a moment.
“I’m not picky about food. Looking at your eating habits, you prefer warm food more.”
“I didn’t mean anything by it. I just saw that you quite like the food she cooks, so I simply changed the contact details. If you don’t want to use her anymore, just tell her anytime.”
“Aunt Lin is a very ethical professional. She won’t leak your home address.”
“Besides, I’m not someone who breaks agreements.”
Rong Wei’s tone was sincere, clarifying all the questions in Jiang Yu’s mind at once.
Since she had found a satisfactory chef, Jiang Yu was too lazy to look for another one. She said, “Then I should thank CEO Rong. Otherwise, I might not have gotten to eat such delicious food.”
“Miss Jiang has paid the compensation, no need to be polite.”
Jiang Yu smiled, glanced at Rong Wei, and didn’t continue speaking.
It always seemed to be like this. Most of their conversations were actually spent in bed.
They rarely said other serious things and didn’t quite know what to talk about.
But this silence wasn’t awkward; instead, it had a reassuring feeling.
About twenty minutes later, Jiang Yu and Rong Wei finished dinner almost simultaneously.
Jiang Yu looked at Rong Wei again and saw her leaning relaxed against the chair back, her well-defined fingers lightly tapping the table intermittently, which was incredibly alluring.
“Miss Jiang, when are you going on your business trip?”
Jiang Yu calculated the time in her mind, then said, “Around next Friday, why?”
“I’m returning next Thursday. Shall we meet that day?”
Jiang Yu crossed her hands, quietly contemplating Rong Wei’s words.
Meeting on Thursday exceeded their initial agreement.
But if they didn’t meet next Thursday, they would likely be unable to see each other for a while again.
They were both adults, and having been intimate, it was hard not to have longing.
Jiang Yu admitted that if they didn’t have their weekly meeting, she would feel a little uncomfortable.
She was not the type to torment herself, so she agreed: “We can. See you next Thursday then.”
“But we need to be clear that this is only because the circumstances are special these few times.”
Jiang Yu thought for a moment and added this clarification.
The implication was that on other days, they needed to maintain distance.
Rong Wei narrowed her eyes, looked at Jiang Yu.
Then she nodded, her tone light: “Understood. I am a woman of my word.”
Jiang Yu gave an “Oh” as a response.
That evening, perhaps because they were exercising their Saturday privilege, they talked about other things, including work and life, with a degree of restraint.
The overall atmosphere was harmonious.
The call finally ended at half-past eight in the evening when an assistant came over to Rong Wei, apparently to call her to a meeting.
Jiang Yu said goodbye to Rong Wei and hung up the phone.
The chef was excellent. Since it was a single person’s portion, the dishes on the table were almost entirely eaten. Afterwards, Jiang Yu put the dishes into the dishwasher, then took a book and read slowly on the lounge chair.
…
It had been raining for several days in Li City, and the muggy weather had become damp.
On Thursday, Jiang Yu held an umbrella and walked into the hotel. After reaching the suite, looking at the wet weather outside, she was suddenly somewhat sentimental that this seemed to be the first time she and Rong Wei were meeting in the rain.
She felt the atmosphere was somehow different.
Due to the weather, Rong Wei’s flight was delayed. Jiang Yu arrived at the hotel, took a shower, finalized arrangements for her trip back home in a few days, and waited for about half an hour before hearing the sound of the door opening.
Jiang Yu rushed out and saw Rong Wei’s figure at the entrance.
A black shirt, suit pants, and her hair half-pulled up, giving her a strong, professional look.
Rong Wei wasn’t short-sighted, but perhaps she had looked at too many electronic devices on the plane. She was wearing anti-blue light glasses, which added a touch of scholarly elegance to her composure.
It was the first time Jiang Yu had seen Rong Wei wearing glasses. For a moment, her heart seemed to skip a beat.
“Miss Jiang, long time no see,” Rong Wei greeted her first.
Jiang Yu smiled and said with a sigh, “Thank you for enduring the rain, CEO Rong.”
“Not at all,” Rong Wei replied calmly.
The door closed. Rong Wei walked in. Jiang Yu glanced at her, then walked to the side to pour her a glass of water.
When she returned, she happened to see Rong Wei taking off her rings and bracelet. She seemed about to take off her necklace, but suddenly leaned against the table, took out her phone, and started scrolling.
Jiang Yu had a sudden thought and asked casually, “What are you doing?”
The room was very quiet, filled with the sound of raindrops pattering against the window, like beads falling onto a jade plate.
Rong Wei looked at her thoughtfully, raised an eyebrow, and said, “Replying to my ex-wife.”
