Chapter 37: “To my house?”
This wasn’t the first time Jiang Yu had seen Rong Wei in real life, so encountering her this time wasn’t exactly shocking.
She couldn’t help but wonder about the strange destiny she shared with Rong Wei, which allowed them to always meet in Li City.
Jiang Yu didn’t want to break Aunt Rens’s rules, and besides, they were only going to dance—nothing else would happen.
Thinking this, Jiang Yu’s gaze fell on Rong Wei, very candidly, and she slightly bowed in response: “The pleasure is mine.”
Almost at the exact moment the words left her mouth, the orchestra in the main hall began to play a waltz.
Jiang Yu placed her hand on Rong Wei’s lower back, and their other hands were clasped tightly.
Perhaps the pureness of this clasped ten-finger embrace made Jiang Yu suddenly pause.
All her senses seemed to be magnified. She inexplicably felt the warmth of a palm on her lower back.
Upon realizing this, Jiang Yu’s body suddenly tensed up.
In this instant, Jiang Yu felt a bit strange.
She and Rong Wei had clearly done much more intimate things, yet even just having a meal together, or touching her waist and interlacing fingers like this, Jiang Yu felt a strange sensation in her heart.
There was even a peculiar shyness.
For the cocktail party, Jiang Yu was dressed formally in a white silk gown that was extremely smooth. The large, dazzling pearl necklace around her neck made it impossible to look away.
All of Jiang Yu’s reactions were noted by Rong Wei. Having spent so much time together, she knew exactly what Jiang Yu looked like when she tensed up.
Jiang Yu pretended not to know her, yet she still stiffened upon seeing her.
A slightly wicked thought suddenly arose in Rong Wei’s mind. Coincidentally, they were in a darker spot, so she quietly tickled Jiang Yu’s most sensitive soft flesh on her lower back.
Jiang Yu’s tense nerves seemed to snap at that moment, and fireworks seemed to erupt in her mind.
She looked up, met Rong Wei’s gaze, and saw her eyes held a smile.
It seemed deliberate.
Jiang Yu concluded this internally, silently pursed her lips, and then, in the next dance step, stepped on Rong Wei’s foot before candidly saying, “Apologies, Madam.”
Rong Wei smiled and merely replied with a matching apology.
When the music reached its crescendo, Jiang Yu stopped looking at Rong Wei, stopped thinking about random things, and just danced quietly.
However, the waltz is an intimate dance, and physical contact was almost unavoidable.
Things like their arms brushing, tightly clasped waists, or the other’s hair falling onto her neck.
Perhaps it was an inevitable reaction, but it made her heart feel a little itchy.
Rong Wei watched Jiang Yu subtly. In the dim light, her gaze deepened.
This was a level of intimacy never experienced in front of others, but fortunately, everyone here was the same, so there was no difference.
When the waltz music stopped, Jiang Yu had no intention of lingering with Rong Wei. She turned a couple of times and naturally performed a bowing gesture.
“You dance very well. I was very pleased,” Jiang Yu said politely, and she was preparing to leave.
But at that moment, she saw Ms. Rens smiling and walking towards them.
Ms. Rens’s voice was full of surprise, but clearly delighted: “Oh, my goodness, it turns out you two were dancing together.”
“It seems you have a great connection.”
Jiang Yu stopped where she was. Her left eyelid twitched fiercely, and she superstitiously felt that something bad was about to happen.
Sure enough, the next second, Ms. Rens smiled and stood beside Rong Wei, looking earnestly at Jiang Yu, and said, “Xiao Yu, let me introduce you. This is Rong Wei, half-Chinese, half-French. You can also call her Vevian. She is my best friend’s daughter.”
“The Qijiang project belongs to her company. Have you met before? Do you know each other now?”
Then, Ms. Rens proactively and warmly introduced Rong Wei: “Weiwei, this is Jiang Yu, my muse. She is a very strong, brave, and independent girl.”
After speaking, she fell silent, quietly watching Jiang Yu and Rong Wei.
Jiang Yu was momentarily stunned.
However, she was always mindful of their relationship in front of outsiders, and she quickly reacted, saying directly, “Aunt Rens, I don’t think we’ve met. I don’t recognize her.”
Rens looked at Jiang Yu, knowing she had face blindness, but didn’t dwell on it, only saying, “That’s okay, it’s good to meet now.”
The dance segment was over, and now it was the socializing part. The surroundings were filled with noisy conversations.
But Jiang Yu suddenly felt a profound silence around her, hearing almost no superfluous sounds.
In the silence, Rong Wei walked up to her.
She smiled and extended her right hand, slightly bowing her head.
Fearing that Aunt Rens would notice anything, Jiang Yu quickly reacted and took Rong Wei’s right hand.
In the crowd, they shook hands openly.
Without any music or movement assistance, a quiet handshake actually felt much more palpable.
Rong Wei was in good health. From the time Jiang Yu saw her at the rock climbing gym, she had guessed she was full of vitality, and it was indeed true.
Most of the time, Rong Wei’s palm was dry and warm, the skin was clearly smooth and delicate, yet holding hands seemed to provide immense security.
“Miss Jiang, hello. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
The moment their hands touched, Jiang Yu heard Rong Wei’s voice.
It was impolite not to look at the person at a time like this, and besides, Jiang Yu only felt a little awkward, without any other extraneous emotions.
Jiang Yu looked up, met Rong Wei’s eyes, and politely replied, “Miss Rong, hello.”
Ms. Rens, of course, didn’t know the private thoughts between Jiang Yu and Rong Wei. She just looked at the two, or more accurately, she kept looking at Jiang Yu.
Having known Jiang Yu for so many years, she knew a little about her past.
She had often sighed that Jiang Yu had suffered too much. Besides her own connections and resources, she also wanted to give Jiang Yu some tangible help.
However, in those years, Jiang Yu was too young to associate with someone at the top of the pyramid like Rong Wei. Later, when they were older, they had a falling out, so she never introduced Rong Wei to her.
But this time, the timing seemed perfect.
And it looked like they were getting along quite harmoniously.
Rens said contentedly, “It seems you two are quite satisfied with this encounter?”
“Then I won’t bother you any longer. Chat slowly. Miss Jiang is very professional in this field.”
Rens quickly left, and Jiang Yu sighed helplessly.
This was the center of the dance floor, and there were too many people coming and going. She didn’t want to be too conspicuous with Rong Wei.
After a moment of silence, she took the initiative to say, “Let’s talk somewhere else.”
Rong Wei looked around and finally nodded: “Alright.”
The main hall was very large, and it wasn’t difficult to find a place relatively far from the spotlight if they intentionally looked.
Soon, Jiang Yu and Rong Wei, each holding a wine glass, found a relatively secluded spot, standing side by side against the wall.
Jiang Yu thought for a moment, then said, “This encounter was also an accident.”
Rong Wei nodded and said, “We are in the same circle, so meeting is not surprising.”
“Miss Jiang doesn’t need to be so nervous. After all, I am a woman of my word.”
Jiang Yu nodded, agreeing with Rong Wei’s statement with her actions.
Rong Wei swirled her wine glass and spoke lightly, “Do you have any plans for later?”
Jiang Yu took a sip of champagne, considered it, and answered truthfully: “No, I don’t.”
“Interested in practicing calligraphy? Would you like to go practice calligraphy with me later?”
Jiang Yu looked at Rong Wei quietly, feeling that this level of closeness was a bit much.
But perhaps it was the alcohol at work; the more she looked at Rong Wei, the more attractive and enchanting she appeared, and the flame in her heart was reignited. She asked, “Where are we going?”
“To my house?” Rong Wei said without thinking.
Jiang Yu instantly sobered up.
She paused and said, “CEO Rong, this might not be appropriate for us.”
Hearing this, Rong Wei gave a very soft “Mhm”: “Apologies, I was inconsiderate.”
“How about going to a hotel for a while?”
“Okay,” Jiang Yu’s voice was a little hoarse.
After the cocktail party ended, Jiang Yu got into Rong Wei’s car, and they went to a hotel together.
Inevitably, the partition was raised in the car, leaving only her and Rong Wei in the back seat.
The car was too quiet.
Jiang Yu opened her mouth, about to say something random, but saw Rong Wei’s phone screen light up, clearly indicating someone was calling her.
She simply closed her mouth, quietly looked out the window, and consciously moved away from Rong Wei to avoid hearing anything she shouldn’t.
She couldn’t hear the voice on the receiver, but Rong Wei’s voice was clearly audible.
“Just left the cocktail party, on the way back now.”
“Not tired, not bored.”
…
Inadvertently, Jiang Yu listened to Rong Wei talk for a while.
She felt a little uneasy and took out her phone to message Lu Linqiao.
[Please be careful going back yourself. Text me when you get home.]
Lu Linqiao was likely still socializing and hadn’t replied to her message, but Jiang Yu truly had nothing else to do, so she just stared intently at her phone screen.
“Doesn’t holding yourself up like that make you tired?”
“Miss Jiang?”
It wasn’t until she heard Rong Wei call her name that Jiang Yu realized Rong Wei was speaking to her.
She shifted her body slightly: “I’m actually fine.”
She heard Rong Wei’s very light chuckle beside her. She teased her, “That’s good. It’s still about half an hour’s drive. Don’t tire yourself out.”
Jiang Yu: “Right, we still have the whole night.”
Then she resumed a normal posture.
The five-star hotel wasn’t busy on a weekday, and Jiang Yu and Rong Wei didn’t encounter many people on the way.
Upon reaching the familiar suite and seeing the clean and tidy room, Jiang Yu spoke with familiarity: “I’ll go take a shower first.”
The purpose of showering between them was never simple.
As Jiang Yu left, Rong Wei watched her back, a subtle upward curve on her lips.
More than half an hour later, Jiang Yu came out of the bathroom, looked at Rong Wei sitting on the chair, and symbolically asked about the calligraphy practice.
“What was that about practicing calligraphy?”
“Do you have any calligraphy copybooks?”
Rong Wei was silent for a moment, then raised her hand, grasped Jiang Yu’s wrist, and gently pulled her into her lap.
Jiang Yu half-protested, half-yielded, and came to her senses to find herself sitting on Rong Wei’s thighs.
Rong Wei produced a fountain pen as if by magic, tapping lightly on the desk, like a heartbeat drummed in the chest.
The moonlight was thick, and Jiang Yu heard Rong Wei’s voice, also low: “Miss Jiang, I apologize for misleading you.”
“There are no copybooks. The teacher who will teach you calligraphy is actually me.”
