- Chapter 28 - Killing with a Borrowed Sword
In the dead of night, two shared bikes traveled one after the other.
“Young lady, where is your motorcycle?”
Shen Guai shrugged helplessly. “The police impounded it.”
“Forty kilometers… we’re really riding these all the way home?” Song Ci was exhausted.
Shen Guai squeezed the brakes, resting her long legs on the ground. “Between the two of us, we only have 20,000 yuan left. I need to save up to pay back Qin Chaomu. A round trip taxi for 40 kilometers would cost over two hundred.”
Shen Guai spoke naturally, her lack of shame suggesting it was Song Ci who had taken her money.
Just as Song Ci was speechless, a phone call came through.
“Hello, Lawyer He.” Shen Guai listened intently, her brow furrowing deeper.
“Turn around,” Shen Guai said, patting Song Ci’s shoulder.
Song Ci didn’t ask questions and immediately turned the bike around.
At 10:00 PM, a man ran out of a hospital. He took a taxi to the pier, intending to smuggle himself out of the country, when a black bag was suddenly pulled over his head.
A sharp pain hit the back of his neck, and he lost consciousness.
When the man woke up, he found himself tied up inside a luxurious Chinese-style building. Before him stood a black-clad girl with a cold, expressionless face.
She was drawing a bow, aiming an arrow directly at his head.
“Help! Help!” the man screamed in terror. Instantly, two men in black pinned him down.
“Don’t move. It’ll miss.” The arrow flew. With a crisp thwack, half a watermelon was pinned to his head.
“Change it.”
Song Ci raised two fingers, coldly uttering a single word.
The watermelon was replaced by an apple. The man’s legs shook violently, sweat and tears poured down his face as he shrieked, “Just give me a quick death, I beg you!”
“Qin Chaomu.” Song Ci smiled faintly. She stepped close, pressing the cold arrowhead against the man’s cheek, gesturing the number three.
Yi Feng’s face turned deathly pale. He slumped in the chair, hysterical. “I’ll spit the money back out! I’ll return it all, okay?”
Song Ci curled her lip, stepped back five paces, and drew the bow again. The arrow hit the bullseye perfectly. Yi Feng’s pupils dilated, gripped by absolute terror.
“Change it.” Again, that icy word.
This time, the fruit atop Yi Feng’s head was a tiny grape.
“Please, have mercy…” Yi Feng sobbed heart-wrenchingly. In the quiet room, besides his cries, there was the sound of liquid dripping onto the floor.
“Manager Song, he pissed himself,” a bald man with a scar laughed.
Song Ci covered her mouth. She didn’t draw the bow this time instead, she tossed the arrow by hand, once again accurately piercing the grape.
“Enough.” The door opened. “Brother Yi Feng, are you okay?”
Yi Feng’s pallid face regained a hint of color when the light hit it, but when he saw who it was, he quickly lowered his head, as if he couldn’t bear to face her.
Shen Guai pushed Song Ci aside. Seeing Yi Feng’s state, tears welled in her eyes. “Brother Yi Feng, I’m sorry, I’m late…”
“Adulterous couple,” Song Ci recited her lines stiffly. She paused for a moment before remembering the next part. “Let’s go to the afterlife together, then.”
Shen Guai spread her arms, shielding Yi Feng with her body, looking ready to die for him.
“Go back and tell Qin Chaomu: I love Brother Yi Feng. Even death won’t tear us apart.”
Yi Feng had never experienced anything like this. His brain worked frantically, and he pieced together a vague logic: Qin Chaomu wanted to kill him, and Shen Guai had rushed here to save him because she loved him.
“So, you two scumbags ran a ‘honey trap’ on my employer and swindled three million from Qin Chaomu, is that it?” Song Ci droned mechanically. Luckily the light was dim, so Yi Feng couldn’t see her face flushed red with nerves.
Before Yi Feng could answer, Shen Guai blurted out, “So what if we did? I truly love Brother Yi Feng! Qin Chaomu understands nothing!”
Thud… A black combat boot kicked Shen Guai in the stomach. She crumpled to the floor beside Yi Feng.
Yi Feng was so terrified he wet himself even more.
Song Ci’s face remained cold as she tossed a phone to Yi Feng. “Transfer the money back. Boss Qin won’t pursue you then.”
“Okay… okay!” Yi Feng was scared out of his wits. With a room full of men in black, they could kill him in minutes. He tremblingly opened the phone and entered the password.
“No, Brother Yi Feng…” Shen Guai tried to stop him weakly.
“Sister, I…” Yi Feng’s head was spinning. He didn’t understand why Shen Guai was interfering. He did have feelings for her and didn’t want to see her killed, but he immediately pressed the transfer button.
“You’ve misunderstood! The one I like is Qin Chaomu! I don’t like Shen Guai…”
Yi Feng scrambled to yield. Qin Chaomu was rich, famous, and had a powerful background. Compared to her, Shen Guai was nothing. Even if he really did like Shen Guai, he didn’t dare express it now, he could only apologize to her in his heart.
“Get out. If you dare trouble Qin Chaomu again, it won’t be as simple as today.”
Song Ci clapped her hands, looking at the two of them as if they were vermin.
As Shen Guai and Yi Feng fled toward the entrance, Shen Guai suddenly stopped. She looked shyly at Yi Feng’s soaked pants and asked a nearby man in black, “Brother, could you please lend us some clothes? Mr. Yi Feng is a celebrity, he can’t go out like this.”
Yi Feng gave Shen Guai a grateful look. Since she had risked her life for him, he vowed in his heart to love this girl and make Qin Chaomu pay the price.
However, after Yi Feng changed into a white short-sleeved shirt and denim jeans, he found the entrance of the Chinese-style villa deserted.
It was now midnight. Yi Feng looked around the eerie villa, the hair on his neck standing on end. Had Shen Guai been killed by them?
But he cared more about his own survival than her safety. Using every ounce of strength, he turned and bolted.
Shen Guai stood in the second floor attic, watching Yi Feng’s pathetic flight, her smile as bright as a flower.
But beside her, Song Ci’s brow was furrowed with confusion. “Guai Guai, didn’t you say we were just going to give him a small lesson?”
“Yeah, he’s scared to death now, and the money is back.” Shen Guai shook a can of Wangzai Milk, popped the tab, and took a small sip.
“But… you didn’t say you were going to kill him.” Song Ci’s expression was complex.
Just as Song Ci finished her sentence, a faint sound came from the woods outside the villa. Song Ci instantly recognized it, the sound of a suppressed pistol firing.
“What are you saying? Is he dead?” Shen Guai asked back with a sweet smile.
“I’m sorry, Young Lady.” Song Ci lowered her head. Shen Guai patted her shoulder gently and handed her the half-finished milk.
“Drink more milk and get a good night’s sleep.” That was all Shen Guai left her with as she walked away.
A chill ran through Song Ci’s heart. After years apart, her little niece, the childhood playmate who only knew how to eat, drink, and play had become someone she no longer understood.
Ruthless, calculating, and indifferent to human life.
Two hours ago, Shen Guai had received a call from Yi Feng’s private lawyer. The lawyer told her that Yi Feng was extorting three million from Qin Chaomu, threatening a lawsuit against Shen Guai.
Shen Guai told Song Ci to simply scare him into returning the money and making him disappear.
But Shen Guai had also told the lawyer that a “big boss” had taken an interest in Yi Feng and bought him a house in Macau. She instructed the lawyer to tell Yi Feng that a private yacht would pick him up tonight and that he should take the money and flee to Macau.
Shen Guai knew Yi Feng was brainless and social-climbing. Hearing from his lawyer that the big boss’s surname was “Xu,” Yi Feng immediately thought of Mrs. Xu.
Convinced, Yi Feng had hurried to the pier to wait for the yacht, where he was instead met by Song Ci.
Song Ci had brought him to Mrs. Xu’s estate to play out the scene with Shen Guai. But when Shen Guai let him go, she had him change into a set of clothes that served as a ticket to hell.
Those clothes were exactly what Ah Ken had been wearing at the pier that day.
Zhang Di’s men had discovered that Mrs. Xu had taken Ah Ken. Zhang Di assumed Ah Ken had offended her. They didn’t dare cause trouble inside the estate, so they waited outside for Ah Ken to “escape” so they could kill him.
In the woods, when the two thugs flipped over Yi Feng’s corpse, they turned pale with shock.
“F*ck, we were played!”
“I told you not to shoot, dammit!” the other thug groaned, covering his face.
“The kid was running, what else was I supposed to do?”
“What about Ah Ken?”
“He obviously got away! What else?”
The two thugs deliberated for a long time before loading Yi Feng’s body into a car and driving off to an unknown location.
Shen Guai lay on her bedroom bed, arms tucked behind her head. She hadn’t been home in a long time. Smelling the sweet, milky scent in the air, her lips curled into an arc.
She hadn’t originally intended to kill Yi Feng.
If it hadn’t been for that sentence: “The one I like is Qin Chaomu.”
Shen Guai stood up, walked to the sofa, and poured a glass of whiskey. Squinting her eyes, she looked at the walls covered in posters of Qin Chaomu and downed the drink in one go.
Having indecent thoughts about Qin Chaomu was, for Yi Feng, a capital offense.
Qin Chaomu could only be hers. From head to toe, from body to soul, she belonged only to Shen Guai.
The spicy alcohol burned down her throat. Shen Guai stood before the wall, her hand tracing the face on a poster, sliding downward, her eyes filled with endless desire.
“Guai Guai!” A knock came at the door. Shen Guai snapped back to reality and opened it. A woman in a red silk robe crept into the room.
“Mommy.” Shen Guai hugged Fei Qian warmly.
“Shh. Xu Xia is still sleeping. Let’s make this quick. This bank card password is your birthday.”
Fei Qian sneakily produced a card from behind her back. “Leave quickly. I’ll handle the rest.”
Shen Guai was moved to tears. “Mommy, thank you!”
“I bought you a Maybach. It was supposed to be a birthday gift, but you didn’t come home. Here are the keys, the car is in the garage.”
Fei Qian blinked, staring at Shen Guai for a long time.
As Shen Guai was about to leave, Fei Qian suddenly stopped her. “I know you want revenge, but Guai Guai… the water here is too deep. Some things… just let them go.”
