The Entertainment Industry's Famous Fraud Couple - Chapter 26
“What the hell? Has this woman lost her mind?” Qin Chaomu looked up and said to Annie, “Find out where they are, now.”
“Yes, Boss.” Annie closed her eyes in anxiety. Judging by the irritability in Qin Chaomu’s voice, she knew things had truly gone south.
Sitting in the back of the Rolls-Royce, her fingertips flying across the screen as she searched for phone numbers, Qin Chaomu made countless calls.
“Found them, Qin Laoshi. They’re at the South City Quarry,” Annie said, turning back. Her heart chilled when she saw Qin Chaomu’s pale face.
The South City Quarry had been abandoned for a long time. Due to its steep terrain, it had been used as a drag-racing spot by a group of idle, wealthy socialites for years.
The woman in the pink motorcycle suit put on her helmet. Her modified pink and white ICON Sheene spoke volumes about her background.
Yi Feng stared tremblingly at the bike, one of only 52 in the world and reluctantly donned his helmet.
Yi Feng had debuted with a “High-Testosterone Boy” persona, and his biggest selling point was motorcycles. He had claimed online multiple times that he hoped to join professional races and become a motorcycle racer.
This afternoon, during an interview, Yi Feng was asked about his rumors with Qin Chaomu. He had been ambiguous about his feelings for her, while also bragging about his new drama, where his character happened to be a motorcyclist.
Out of the two hour interview, he spent an hour and a half boasting. He told stories about how his family was poor, how he entered showbiz to pay off his alcoholic father’s debts, and how he had to give up his racing dreams…
After the interview, Yi Feng posted a photo of a motorcycle on Weibo, vaguely expressing his excitement for the upcoming shoot.
It was unclear whether he was excited to fulfill his childhood dream on screen or excited to work with Qin Chaomu.
Predictably, shortly after the post went up, it received tens of thousands of hateful comments. But among them was one peculiar comment…
Shen Guai: Wow! Yi Feng-gege is so amazing! Can you teach me how to ride? o.o
Yi Feng was overjoyed. He figured that the hate he got for the CP (couple) rumors with Qin Chaomu was because he couldn’t match her aura, they lacked “CP chemistry.”
But Shen Guai was known as the “Number One Sweetheart.” Even if she stood next to a dog, people would ship them as a hit couple.
Qin Chaomu was his boss, and he was terrified of her. Plus, Yi Feng truly liked Shen Guai, what man doesn’t like a “sweetheart” type?
In a moment of impulsiveness, without consulting Annie, Yi Feng replied directly to Shen Guai, saying “anytime.”
This led to Shen Guai starting a live stream. The viewership exploded from 100,000 at the start to over a million real time viewers now.
Every single one of them was cursing Yi Feng out.
Despite the insults, Yi Feng figured he had successfully rode the wave of hype.
However… when Yi Feng saw Shen Guai’s motorcycle, he was stunned.
The ICON Sheene, hailed as the ultimate motorcycle, was hand built and custom-ordered. Never mind that Shen Guai supposedly didn’t know motorcycles, even an enthusiast like himself found it impossible to get his hands on one.
Sure enough, Shen Guai leaned lazily against the bike, smiling at Yi Feng. “Yi Feng-gege, let’s make a bet. Let’s see if you can beat me~”
“You’re a girl, I’ll just teach you a bit. How could I bear to race you?” Yi Feng looked at Shen Guai’s pretty face, feeling a bit intoxicated.
“If Yi Feng-gege wins, I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll satisfy you~” Shen Guai snapped her gloves on, her eyes sparkling. She took a small hop forward, landing right in front of him.
And right into his heart.
Yi Feng couldn’t stop smiling and agreed repeatedly, thinking he’d go easy on her later so she wouldn’t lose too badly. He asked softly, “And if I lose? What does my sister want?”
Shen Guai raised her hand, resting her glove against Yi Feng’s chest. She looked at him with watery eyes, smiling so hard her eyes narrowed into slits. “I want you…”
“Hmm?” Yi Feng pursed his lips, his pupils dilating with pleasant surprise.
“I want you… to get the hell out of Qin Chaomu’s world.” With that, Shen Guai pulled on her helmet and gave him a certain “international friendly gesture” (the middle finger).
His mood took a rollercoaster dip. Yi Feng took a deep breath, thinking that no matter how well a little girl could ride, she couldn’t possibly beat him.
But the moment they hit the road, Yi Feng realized he was wrong.
Shen Guai’s bike followed him like a ghost. He accelerated, she accelerated, he slowed down, she slowed down.
Moreover, she maintained a distance of exactly one centimeter from his bike, threatening a rear-end collision at any second. Sweat broke out on Yi Feng’s forehead. He realized this girl was no amateur, and he realized she was playing with his life.
The quarry was steep. With speeds hitting 140 mph, Yi Feng decided to lose her at the “Death Bend.”
However, when he checked his rearview mirror and saw Shen Guai performing an extreme 60-degree lean into the corner, his heart sank.
Shen Guai didn’t just know how to ride, her skills were on a completely different dimension from his. For a girl to achieve that angle required incredible body control and elite technical skill…
The more Yi Feng thought, the more terrified he became. He signaled, intending to let her win.
He could quit the entertainment industry, but he couldn’t lose his life…
But the moment he tried to stop, the pink and white bike behind him surged to 180 mph and slammed directly into him.
Motorcycle tires sparked against the gravel. Yi Feng felt the world spin. He saw the ground, he saw his bike flying away, and then a searing pain flooded his body.
He rolled five times on the ground, clearly feeling blood slowly seeping from his abdomen.
The quarry was full of jagged rocks. Yi Feng’s bike had been thrown, and he had slammed into a sharp stone that pierced straight into his stomach.
Yi Feng’s vision went black, and he fainted.
At the same time, Shen Guai’s bike flipped. Her body slammed against the cliff wall. She felt a metallic sweetness in her throat. She knelt, took off her helmet, and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
The live stream comments were going insane. A large number of fans gathered around the quarry, but they were blocked by layers of security from Antelope Jewelry. It wasn’t until the police arrived that a path was cleared.
The live stream had eight camera angles tracking the action. But halfway through, six cameras lost the signal. Only the first-person perspective cameras on Yi Feng and Shen Guai’s bikes remained.
Fans watching the stream were horrified seeing Yi Feng lying motionless.
Shen Guai adjusted the first-person camera on her bike. Clutching her chest, she mounted the bike again and finished the final stretch of the course.
“Boss, something happened…” Annie looked at the four screens on the car’s monitor. Three were frozen; one was black.
“I’m not blind.” Qin Chaomu closed her eyes, her fingernails digging into her palms until they turned white. “Turn the TV off.”
“Yes.” Annie didn’t dare provoke her. The black screen was Shen Guai’s perspective, when her bike went down, the camera had smashed against a rock.
“Boss, the trending topics say they’ve been sent to the hospital.” Annie asked tentatively, “Are we going there?”
“What do you think?” Qin Chaomu’s face was cold.
“Right, Boss.”
Annie didn’t know if Yi Feng would die, but she knew she was about to die of stress in this car.
The pressure inside the vehicle continued to drop. Even though it was 9:00 PM, the elevated highway was gridlocked with people heading toward the hospital.
Beep…Beep…Beep…One by one, cars on the highway honked irritably. Annie’s heart was drumming.
She silently prayed that nothing would happen to Shen Guai. She didn’t pray for Yi Feng.
Because Annie knew his fate was sealed. Even if he survived, he had touched Qin Chaomu’s “reverse scale” (weak point/taboo). His career in the entertainment industry was over.
Annie blamed herself. Just one moment of inattention and Yi Feng had caused this disaster. Didn’t he know the relationship between Shen Guai and Qin Chaomu?
Flirting with the boss’s woman, how was that different from slapping the boss in the face?
“Boss, what do we do? It looks like a two-hour delay.” Annie was almost in tears.
“Is the subway still running?” Qin Chaomu asked.
“Yes, Boss, but the nearest station is over a kilometer away…”
“It doesn’t matter.” Qin Chaomu, wearing high heels, pushed the door open and got out.
She looked at her WeChat interface over a dozen unanswered calls. Her brow furrowed into a tight knot.
“Pick up, Shen Guai.” Qin Chaomu’s heart was racing. On the subway, many people were sneakily taking photos or trying to approach her, making her very uneasy.
She almost never took the subway alone.
Because…
A few drunk men surrounded her. Recognizing Qin Chaomu, they began whistling at her.
Qin Chaomu simply said one word: “Scram.”
This instantly sparked a commotion. Her fans rushed forward to fight the men.
Qin Chaomu wasn’t in the mood to care. Normally, she might have maintained her “perfect public persona,” but right now, she sat on the subway looking lost, staring at her phone’s remaining 1% battery.
She kept calling; Shen Guai still didn’t answer.
Hurrying to the hospital, Qin Chaomu pushed through the reporters in the hallway without a word.
“Miss Qin, can we get an interview?” “What is your take on this incident?” “Can you tell us about your relationship with Shen Guai?” “Did you really cheat?”
Qin Chaomu frowned, squeezing through the crowd. She twisted the ring on her thumb over and over. It wasn’t until she pushed open the hospital room door that she finally called out: “Shen Guai!”
The person on the bed looked up, their face wrapped like a zongzi (sticky rice dumpling). Seeing Qin Chaomu, they wailed: “Boss!”
Qin Chaomu’s face darkened. She asked coldly, “Where is Shen Guai?”
Yi Feng winced as he clutched his chin, saying in a sobbing tone, “She was taken away by the police. She’s probably sitting in the station right now.”
“Boss! Boss!”
Seeing that Qin Chaomu was ignoring him, Yi Feng’s heart shattered.
“Why are you the one here?” Shen Guai looked up, glancing at the newcomer with dissatisfaction. “Where’s my Mommy?”
The newcomer took off her baseball cap and said simply, “Sleeping.”
“Are you serious? Her daughter is in the slammer and she’s sleeping?” Shen Guai said through gritted teeth.
“Do I sign here?” Song Ci picked up a carbon pen.
“Who are you to her? Show your ID.”
Song Ci looked up, pulled her ID from her pocket, and replied blankly:
“I’m her second aunt.”
