The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 7
In the evening, Shen Jianxi knocked on Tang Yanzhao’s door with dinner in hand. This time, Tang Yanzhao didn’t turn her away. She naturally took the food from her, her gaze falling on Shen Jianxi’s repeatedly bent fingers. “Does it still hurt?” she asked.
The red marks had faded a lot, but it still hurt when she used her hand. Shen Jianxi never hid anything. “It hurts,” she answered honestly.
“Why didn’t you call me?” Tang Yanzhao placed the bag on the table.
Shen Jianxi followed her into the room. “Weren’t you feeling unwell?”
Tang Yanzhao’s movements paused.
Is the eldest Miss Shen capable of being considerate now?
The thought flitted through Tang Yanzhao’s mind for a second before she pushed the untimely idea away.
Shen Jianxi, of course, was unaware of the thoughts hidden behind Tang Yanzhao’s calm expression. She enthusiastically introduced the food: “My mom had someone specially send this over. Your stomach isn’t feeling well, so she asked the chef to make this stomach-nourishing meal just for you.”
It was a stream of light, bland dishes, but Tang Yanzhao had never been a big foodie, so she had no complaints.
In contrast, Shen Jianxi’s table was filled with junk food: fried chicken, milk tea, and pizza. It was a very obvious sign that this was not something Shen Xiaoyin would have sent.
Shen Jianxi picked up a chicken drumstick with one hand, dipped it in honey mustard, and took a bite. As she chewed, she noticed Tang Yanzhao glancing at her a few times. “Your stomach is bad,” she said. “When you’re feeling better, I’ll take you to eat this, okay?”
It was a question, but her tone was so soft and sweet, and her smile reached her eyes. For some reason, Tang Yanzhao also felt her joy.
Perhaps her presence truly does bring Shen Jianxi some pleasure at this moment, Tang Yanzhao thought to herself.
Tang Yanzhao looked away and stirred the millet porridge in front of her. “No need,” she replied awkwardly.
Shen Jianxi only took it as her being stubborn, a smile dancing in her eyes. “Don’t be so formal with me.”
Tang Yanzhao didn’t reply.
The entire room was filled with the rich smell of fried food.
Shen Jianxi licked the sauce from her lips. “When are your roommates coming back?” she asked.
“High school seniors only get one day off a week. They’re still in class,” Tang Yanzhao said. “The other one, who’s a freshman, went home on Friday night.”
“Oh~” Shen Jianxi licked her lips with her tongue, feeling a little sticky. She was too lazy to take off her gloves to wipe it, so she called out, “Zhaozhao.”
Tang Yanzhao looked up at her.
Shen Jianxi tilted her chin toward her. “Help me wipe it.”
Tang Yanzhao took a tissue, folded it into a neat square, and carefully wiped her lips.
Shen Jianxi sat obediently in her seat, watching Tang Yanzhao’s face get closer and closer. Suddenly, she felt an itch in her ear. Instinctively, she tilted her head to dodge, her sweet voice laced with a laugh. “It tickles~”
Tang Yanzhao, as if possessed, pinched her chin. Her voice was low and steady. “Don’t move.”
Shen Jianxi’s heart skipped a beat. Her gaze, which had been focused on Tang Yanzhao’s face, began to lose focus. The thumping of her heart replaced the itching in her ear.
This was the first time she had so clearly felt her heart beat faster because of her. It was also the first time she had observed Tang Yanzhao this closely. Her skin was beautiful, and her eyelashes were long, casting a shadow on her lower lids. Her eyes, which always seemed to hide her emotions, were a deep, dark brown. But up close, Shen Jianxi realized they weren’t entirely black; they had a hint of gray, like a starry night.
“All done.”
Tang Yanzhao tucked the stray hair that had caused the itching behind her ear, then politely retreated to a normal social distance.
The faint scent of grapefruit and rum withdrew from her senses, and Shen Jianxi felt a bit dazed. She blinked, swallowed hard, and realized her throat was dry.
Shen Jianxi didn’t say anything, and Tang Yanzhao also sat silently on her stool, flipping through her book. Under the desk, her fingers secretly moved back and forth.
The delicate, smooth feeling lingered on her fingertips. Tang Yanzhao had originally just intended to help, but when she heard that playful voice, her actions were faster than her thoughts. By the time she reacted, she was already pinching Shen Jianxi’s chin.
If she had let go immediately, it would have made her look guilty, so Tang Yanzhao could only pretend it was a mistake.
The cat-like eyes looked at her lazily, the corners of her eyes slightly upturned, revealing a hint of alluring charm. There was a small red mole on her nose, just like the one behind her ear, which made her looks and age feel perfectly in sync. Her cherry lips, stained with sauce, were even more rosy. A small, almost imperceptible space between her lips and the lower one, like a gentle kiss, gave her a sweet yet rebellious, lazy yet confident, and tempting aura.
It had to be admitted that, setting aside her background, Shen Jianxi herself possessed the capital to make any alpha fall head over heels.
Shen Jianxi was like the Sirens in Greek mythology, with a voice that could enchant anyone. Sailors drawn in by their song would hit the rocks and sink. Anyone who accidentally entered her world couldn’t tell if this encounter was a punishment or a reward.
“Ahem!”
Shen Jianxi’s cough broke the strange atmosphere. Tang Yanzhao handed her a cup of water. She quickly took off her gloves and gulped down several mouthfuls. Her dry, sore throat was finally relieved. She rubbed her hot earlobe.
After she was reborn, Shen Jianxi had said, “I like Tang Yanzhao,” but in reality, even she couldn’t tell what this feeling was. After all, in her past life, her interactions with Tang Yanzhao weren’t deep, and most of their time was spent disliking each other. It was only after something happened later that their relationship softened, but it was just on the surface, and she couldn’t really say she liked her.
So where did this feeling come from? Could it be categorized as ‘liking’? It could only be traced back to the kidnapping. She felt guilt, regret, heartache, and self-blame over Tang Yanzhao’s death.
All of these things gave her a misconception, and the truth that Tang Yanzhao liked her allowed Shen Jianxi to find a single word to summarize these emotions: ‘like.’
So, in the name of rebirth, and to atone for her past life’s sins, she would like Tang Yanzhao. This wasn’t a possibility for the future; it was a present action. Even if it was just an obsession, Shen Jianxi would make this elusive ‘liking’ a reality.
She had to like Tang Yanzhao.
The flutter in her heart today was the first step and a gift from Tang Yanzhao in return.
The next day.
Shen Jianxi was curled up on the sofa in her luxurious single dorm, flipping over boredly.
She glanced out the window, where dark clouds instantly gathered, blocking out the light. The entire world grew dim, a real-life portrayal of “black clouds pressing down on the city.”
The next second, a winding silver lightning bolt streaked across the sky, as if splitting the sky in two.
Even though she was prepared, Shen Jianxi’s heart still skipped a beat at the deafening thunder.
The rain this season was fierce and heavy, hitting the window like firecrackers.
Shen Jianxi looked at her pinned WeChat chat. The last two messages were from this morning when she’d just woken up.
[Are you in the dorm?]
[In the library.]
She pursed her lips, sat up, and typed: [It’s raining. Do you have an umbrella?]
Shen Jianxi stared at the chat for three minutes until the screen automatically turned off. She still hadn’t received a reply from Tang Yanzhao.
[???]
Her patience was wearing thin. She sent three question marks with one hand.
“Tang Yanzhao, if you don’t reply, I’m going to get mad!” Shen Jianxi poked the screen twice in a huff.
Tang Yanzhao’s message didn’t pop up. Instead, a call came in from Ye Tao.
Shen Jianxi threw herself back onto the sofa and answered the phone. The anger in her voice was unfortunately directed at Ye Tao.
“Hello?”
“Xixi, you sound upset.” Ye Tao sensitively caught the hint of a fiery temper in her tone.
Shen Jianxi gritted her teeth. “A little. What’s up?”
“Well, about the Tang Yanzhao reversal.”
Shen Jianxi switched the phone to her other hand. “Go on.”
“I posted the full surveillance video on the forum at noon, right? Now the forum has exploded. A lot of people are @ing Yang Yuhan asking for an explanation. She’s so scared she’s not even showing her face anymore.”
This was exactly what she had expected, but Shen Jianxi didn’t feel happy about it. “And?”
“And since this issue has gotten so big, it’s a bad look for the school. The school contacted me.”
Shen Jianxi’s eyes narrowed. She let out a soft “Mm-hmm” for her to continue.
“They’re asking us to delete the video, or they’ll deduct my morals and conduct score.”
Shen Jianxi scoffed. “They’re a bunch of bullies. Who contacted you?”
“Xu Hui, our homeroom teacher.”
“Can she represent the Rongqing Board of Directors directly?”
Ye Tao chuckled softly. “Of course not. She’s probably doing this on her own. It’s a critical time for her to be evaluated for head of the grade, so she’s probably desperate to show some results.”
“Then she’s messed with the wrong person.”
Ye Tao’s laugh was full of confidence. “Exactly. So, now we need you to put pressure on the school board while the gossip is hot and get them to speed up and provide a solution.”
Shen Jianxi said, “I know.”
After hanging up, Shen Jianxi quickly messaged her mother about the whole situation. She soon received a contact card from her mother.
[Lawyer Wang, add her. She will handle this matter in its entirety.]
[Okay.]
The Shen family’s lawyer was incredibly efficient. As soon as Shen Jianxi added her, the lawyer went straight to the point, sending a clear-cut solution that detailed everything from compensation to disciplinary recommendations.
Although she hadn’t yet negotiated with the Rongqing school board, Shen Jianxi felt confident that the person on the other end of the phone would be able to handle it.
Relieved, Shen Jianxi twirled her phone in her palm. Her eyes fell on the still-silent chat box, and the anger she had temporarily suppressed flared up again. Just as she was about to call and demand an explanation, a new message popped up at the top of her screen.
[I have it.]
A lightning bolt flashed, illuminating the fiery spark in Shen Jianxi’s eyes. The screen was tapped furiously, and she dialed a call in a rage.
Just as it was about to hang up, Tang Yanzhao finally answered.
“You’re slow to reply to messages, and you’re slow to answer calls, too?”
Tang Yanzhao wasn’t intimidated by her anger. “What is it?” she replied coldly.
“I was worried about you! Is this how you treat me?”
Tang Yanzhao fell silent for a moment before she started to report her situation all at once. “The library is about to close. My umbrella is in the locker. My phone is about to die. I’m hanging up.”
The call ended so abruptly that Shen Jianxi sat on the sofa, stunned. Her cat-like eyes were full of disbelief.
She had been hung up on!
Tang Yanzhao had given her the “cold shoulder” again!
For the second time!!!
