The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 3
In the infirmary.
It was an unfortunate coincidence that someone had fallen while playing basketball, and the doctor was currently tending to their injuries, leaving this corner for the two of them.
Shen Jianxi crouched in front of Tang Yanzhao, once again looking at the wound on her knee, still feeling at a loss.
Tang Yanzhao spoke first, “I’ll do it myself.”
“I’ll help you,” Shen Jianxi said, moving Tang Yanzhao’s hand away, her tone leaving no room for refusal.
“First, we need to clean the wound. It might hurt a little, so bear with it.”
After a few seconds of silence, Tang Yanzhao gave a simple “Mhm” and said nothing more.
Shen Jianxi clipped away the dead skin for her, then gently dabbed the wound with a cotton swab soaked in hydrogen peroxide. The dried blood gradually wiped away, and the wound whitened from the stimulation.
Tang Yanzhao gripped the edge of the bed with both hands to suppress the pain, her expression not betraying the slightest physiological reaction.
Shen Jianxi glanced at Tang Yanzhao while changing the dressing. Seeing her composed expression, a sudden surge of anger welled up inside her, but looking down at the injury was like having a bucket of cold water thrown over her.
How can this person endure so much?
She could endure injuries, a knife wound, and even her love for her, willing to die rather than expose it.
“She’s always been like this,” Little Ten’s voice echoed in her mind.
Shen Jianxi gritted her teeth in her mind, replying, “I know!”
It was precisely because she knew that she felt both angry and heartbroken.
Shen Jianxi secretly took a deep breath, suppressing the inappropriate emotions. She then asked, “When they bullied you, you didn’t resist at all and let them do it?”
“No,” Tang Yanzhao said, not intending to explain.
Shen Jianxi was so angry that her teeth itched. She lowered her head, held the cotton swab suspended in her hand, and closed her eyes to take a deep breath and adjust her emotions. She was afraid that if her emotions took over, her movements would become heavier, making the wound even worse.
Tang Yanzhao watched the top of Shen Jianxi’s head, her thick, dark hair almost obscuring her scalp. Yet, seeing her shoulders rise and fall slightly, she couldn’t gauge her psychological state. She fixed her gaze on her, neither speaking nor hurrying her, just staying quiet.
Shen Jianxi exhaled a long breath, deciding to put the matter aside for now. Treating the injury was more important.
Tang Yanzhao had been pushed down the stairs, her knee and elbow hitting the edge of a step. Cleaning the wounds took over ten minutes.
Shen Jianxi looked at her neck. “Let me check your scent gland.”
“No need,” Tang Yanzhao refused as she always did.
Shen Jianxi ignored her refusal, stood in front of her, knelt down beside her, and hugged her collarbone from the front to prevent her from escaping. With her other hand, she deftly lifted Tang Yanzhao’s hair to expose the back of her neck.
The milky-white scent-blocking patch had faded slightly in the center, becoming almost transparent. There was a small bulge in the middle, barely noticeable without a close look.
Now that she was closer, Shen Jianxi could smell the faint scent of grapefruit rum from Tang Yanzhao’s pheromones.
Shen Jianxi was about to reach for the patch, but Tang Yanzhao quickly covered her gland with her hand, refusing again, “I’m fine.”
“The patch is soaked through. Your grapefruit rum pheromones are leaking out. Don’t you notice? If you don’t change it, do you want others to smell your pheromones too?”
“…”
Shen Jianxi had hit a nerve. Tang Yanzhao’s silence was her consent. Shen Jianxi pushed her hand away and swiftly tore off the patch, revealing the small, pink gland completely.
Tang Yanzhao’s gland was two shades darker than normal and slightly swollen, but only a little—not yet at the full, engorged state of her heat cycle.
However, this was Shen Jianxi’s first time seeing an omega gland up close, and it was Tang Yanzhao’s. For some inexplicable reason, she poked it with her finger. The fleshy little gland wiggled slightly, looking adorable and completely unlike its owner.
“Shen Jianxi!” Tang Yanzhao’s temples throbbed as she realized what the person behind her was doing. Her voice carried a hint of a warning, perhaps even a touch of discomfort, but it was just a hint.
Shen Jianxi pouted, no longer teasing. She obediently tore open a new patch and carefully placed it on Tang Yanzhao’s gland. “Is your heat cycle coming soon?”
Tang Yanzhao clearly didn’t want to get tangled up in such matters with Shen Jianxi, or rather, she didn’t want to have too much to do with her at all. She answered with a non-sequitur, “Are you done?”
Shen Jianxi’s fingers pressed along the edges of the patch, as if she were applying a screen protector, determined to squeeze out every air bubble. In the meantime, she said, “Generally speaking, it’s very difficult for a B-grade alpha to induce an S-grade omega’s heat, unless the omega likes her, or is about to enter her heat cycle.”
She scraped her fingertip over the patch, then extended it outward, seemingly casually brushing the surrounding skin. She crouched back down on the stool she had used earlier to treat her wound, propped her hands on her knees, and a playful smile appeared on her lips. “So you, are the latter.”
This was a statement, because the possibility of her liking Yang Yuhan was zero in Shen Jianxi’s eyes.
Tang Yanzhao remained silent. Shen Jianxi didn’t mind and simply reminded her, “Remember to carry your suppressants with you these days.”
Shen Jianxi grabbed the alcohol spray nearby, sanitized her hands, and looked up at Tang Yanzhao, who was sitting on the cot. “Why did you let them bully you?”
Tang Yanzhao thought the topic had passed, but Shen Jianxi not only hadn’t forgotten, she deliberately sat even closer, blocking her path to stand up, as if saying she wouldn’t let her leave without an answer.
Shen Jianxi had typical cat-like eyes, with a slight upward tilt at the corners. When she was relaxed, they held a hint of cunning, but now, a smile played in their corners, adding a touch of charm. Yet, her pupils, in the bright light, were the color of amber, and one could see all the way to her core.
Tang Yanzhao was momentarily lost in a daze, finding it hard to believe that those cat-like eyes had abandoned their mysterious nature and were now so openly sincere.
Unfortunately, Shen Jianxi was just like her name, which meant “sunlight” and “hope.” She would always be the high-and-mighty eldest daughter of the Shen family, known to everyone. Many would fall for someone like her.
But Tang Yanzhao, whose name meant “bright as the sun and moon,” was undeserving of it. She could only survive in the shadows, not even daring to glimpse the sun, let alone touch it.
They were born worlds apart.
“Shen Jianxi, I’m moving out this weekend. Whatever your intentions are, we won’t have much contact in the future. There’s no need for you to waste any more energy on me,” Tang Yanzhao said in her clear, calm voice. “My business has nothing to do with you.”
Shen Jianxi laughed, almost forcing the words out through her teeth. “What if I insist on being a part of your business?”
Tang Yanzhao’s hands, which were hanging over the edge of the bed, tightened unconsciously. “Why?”
“Reincarnation taboo: the host cannot tell Tang Yanzhao the truth,” Little Ten quickly reminded her, sensing that a secret was about to be revealed.
Shen Jianxi was speechless. “Do you think I’m that stupid?”
Reincarnation was against all reason. Tang Yanzhao was already suspicious of her. If she were to tell her the truth, Tang Yanzhao would surely think she was crazy.
A confident, radiant smile spread across Shen Jianxi’s lips. “I, Shen Jianxi, have always been open and uninhibited. I don’t need a reason to like or dislike someone. It’s all based on what I feel.”
“You…”
Tang Yanzhao’s lips parted, about to speak, when a warm, soft sensation suddenly touched the back of her neck.
Shen Jianxi’s palm cupped the back of her skull, pulling her down with a gentle force. Straightening her own back, their heads were misaligned yet close. She turned her head slightly, her lips only a centimeter from Tang Yanzhao’s ear. Her hot breath hit Tang Yanzhao’s ear.
“And you, are the one I like.”
Just a few short words, whispered in an airy voice, were tinged with the scent of her sandalwood pheromones, which invaded Tang Yanzhao’s senses. With the last word, a ringing sound echoed in Tang Yanzhao’s ears, and her thoughts slowed down.
But soon, a muffled cough brought all emotions back to their original state. Tang Yanzhao successfully broke free from Shen Jianxi’s grasp and put some distance between them.
Shen Jianxi covered her mouth and coughed twice. The momentary sting in her chest quickly faded. She asked Little Ten in her mind, “Was that her heart fluttering?”
She had done it on purpose, trying to test Tang Yanzhao’s threshold for a racing heart. That’s why she had spoken so ambiguously, so close to her ear.
Little Ten checked the data and replied, “It seems so.”
“What do you mean, ‘it seems so’?” Shen Jianxi was not satisfied with the answer.
Tang Yanzhao’s next words provided an answer, “Shen Jianxi, you’re the carefree eldest daughter of the Shen family. I’m not like you. I don’t have time to play with you, and I don’t want to become your plaything.”
“I can’t afford to play,” Tang Yanzhao said, her gaze fixed on Shen Jianxi’s, her words resolute.
Little Ten also explained the system’s settings: “Human emotions are the most complex subject. We still can’t present them with perfect accuracy, so we can only rely on data. A person’s heart fluttering usually manifests as a faster heart rate, increased adrenaline, rising blood pressure, faster breathing, and dilated capillaries. The system analyzes this data to reach a conclusion.”
“So you’re saying Tang Yanzhao did have a physiological reaction because of my proximity just now.”
“Yes.”
With the confirmation, Shen Jianxi’s confidence surged.
Tang Yanzhao had always been aloof and quiet, her emotional fluctuations as flat as a straight line. If she didn’t speak up, how could others perceive her inner turmoil?
But Tang Yanzhao’s mouth was as tight as a clam shell—stubborn and quick to be insincere, just like now.
When Shen Jianxi heard her words, the smile on her lips became even more unrestrained. She called out “Tang Yanzhao,” her cat-like eyes sparkling with amusement.
Tang Yanzhao’s expression didn’t change, but Shen Jianxi didn’t get discouraged.
Shen Jianxi tilted her head to the left and called out, “Tang Yanzhao.” You awkward thing.
“…”
She tilted her head to the other side and called, “Tang Yanzhao.” You closeted weirdo.
“…”
She went back and forth many times. “Tang Yanzhao, Tang Yanzhao…”
With the starlight dancing in her cat-like eyes, Tang Yanzhao finally gave in. She could only look away to avoid her gaze.
Shen Jianxi laughed happily, and the oppressive atmosphere from a moment ago quietly disappeared.
