The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 23
Early in the morning, the two of them dawdled until past nine before finally heading out. Once at the hospital, Tang Yanzhao immediately set about arranging all kinds of tests without pause.
Standing in front of a bench, Tang Yanzhao held a stack of medical forms in one hand, while her other hand was clasped tightly under Shen Jianxi’s chin by both of Shen’s hands. Shen pouted pitifully, her lips turned down, and asked, “Don’t you even feel sorry for me?”
Only then did Tang Yanzhao lift her gaze from the papers to Shen’s face. “Tired?”
Shen let out a haughty little hum, then began to “accuse” Tang Yanzhao of her “terrible behavior” ever since they had left home.
“It’s been over three whole hours since this morning. I haven’t eaten a single bite, not even had a sip of water. I’m starving so badly my chest is sticking to my back, yet you haven’t paid the slightest attention to me.”
Tang couldn’t help but chuckle, soothing her naturally: “You can’t eat or drink anything before a full physical. Once we’re done, we’ll go, okay?”
Of course, Shen already knew that—she was just fishing for attention.
“Then sit with me for a bit. I’ve got no strength left.”
Seeing that there weren’t many tests left, Tang simply sat down with her.
Shen immediately leaned against her shoulder like a magnet, grinning sneakily.
Tang was already used to such antics.
Not long after they sat down, a door behind them opened. A female doctor in a white coat emerged, sternly scolding the person beside her.
“Do you even know what kind of injury your leg is? And yet you dare run off from the hospital! Do you realize that if an accident happened or the wound got infected, you could very well lose that leg? Have you thought about the consequences?”
“And you! You knew her leg was injured, yet you took her out without even telling anyone? You’re almost an adult now—can’t you even tell what’s serious and what’s not?”
Shen and Tang turned to see Jiang Lan pushing Fang Xing, who sat calmly in a wheelchair, following the doctor out.
Fang Xing smiled lightly, “But nothing happened, right?”
“If something had happened, it’d be too late,” the doctor snapped, clearly angry with the two of them.
Meanwhile, Jiang Lan looked utterly indifferent, as if she wasn’t the one being scolded.
Fang Xing, quick to read the room, softened her tone and apologized, “Don’t be angry, doctor-jie. We know we were wrong.”
Hearing her gentle voice, anyone’s temper would lessen. The doctor sighed, waved her hand, and said: “Fine. Luckily the check-up showed no issues. But from now on, without my permission, you’re not allowed to discharge yourselves. Understand?”
“Understood, thank you, doctor-jie.” Fang Xing nodded obediently.
“Did you hear me?” Doctor Liu fixed her eyes on Jiang Lan.
Jiang Lan clicked her tongue impatiently. “Then you’d better tell her not to beg me to take her out.”
“You—”
Before the doctor could go on, Fang Xing quickly cut her off, “I’ll behave from now on, this has nothing to do with Jiang Lan. Please don’t blame her, doctor-jie.”
Doctor Liu let out a long sigh, her brows still furrowed. “Forget it. As long as you keep your word.”
Once the doctor left, Shen waved at them in greeting.
Jiang Lan’s expression brightened instantly when she saw her, and without hesitation she pushed Fang Xing’s wheelchair over. “What are you two doing here?”
“A physical check-up,” Shen answered honestly. “And you?”
At the mention, Jiang Lan rolled her eyes. “You saw it—dragged over by the doctor first thing in the morning. I thought something serious had happened, but turns out it was just a re-exam. And I still got an earful.”
Fang Xing pressed her lips together, nodded apologetically to Jiang Lan, and said, “Sorry for troubling you.”
At that, Jiang Lan’s paper-thin temper couldn’t hold up. She averted her gaze stiffly. “If you can trouble me less in the future, that’ll be thanks enough.”
“Alright, I understand.”
“Where are you two heading now?” Shen asked.
“Taking her back.” Jiang Lan patted the wheelchair handle in her hand.
The four of them then made their way toward the elevators together.
“This one’s going up,” Shen reminded when Jiang Lan was about to push Fang Xing in.
“Yeah, her ward’s on the fifth floor.”
Shen’s brows twitched. “Fifth floor? Isn’t that the Omega ward?”
Fang Xing was an Alpha. Normally, Alphas and Omegas wouldn’t be housed together, since it could easily lead to incidents.
“The day I was admitted, there was a huge pile-up on the overpass. Alpha and Beta wards were full, so they temporarily put me on the fifth floor,” Fang Xing explained.
Shen nodded, understanding.
After that brief reunion, the four parted ways.

The rest of Shen’s tests went smoothly. Throughout, Tang stayed by her side with endless patience. Some results weren’t available the same day, so it took an entire week before all of them were finally collected.
During a break in rehearsal, Tang sat in the audience seats, carefully analyzing the reports word by word.
Shen came over with several letters in hand, grumbling, “This is so annoying. Can people stop sending me love letters already? It’s not like I’d ever say yes. Honestly, unbelievable.”
But her tone carried three parts annoyance, seven parts smugness and probing.
Tang, however, didn’t react at all, utterly unfazed. This made Shen fume—she slapped the letters against Tang’s hand and glared without speaking.
Only then did Tang lift her attention to her, confused. “What’s wrong?”
This is like winking at a blind person! Shen thought bitterly.
She didn’t explain, just huffed.
Tang’s temple pulsed faintly. She flipped over the letters resting on her hand, then asked with total sincerity, “Do you want me to read them?”
“…”
What the hell—who wants you to read them?!
Shen nearly choked with frustration. She snatched the letters back and tossed them straight into the trash.
Tang’s dense brain truly hadn’t made the connection.
Shen plopped back down beside her, bumping her shoulder hard. “You’re so smart—can’t you figure things out a little faster in other areas?”
“Figure what out?”
Shen drew a long breath, suppressing the irritation boiling in her chest.
How did this blockhead realize in our past life that I liked her? I’ve been throwing out all kinds of signals lately!
Grinding her teeth, Shen decided not to dwell on it. “What had you so focused just now? Don’t tell me it was some little vixen.”
Tang openly handed her the phone. “Your test results.”
Shen clicked her tongue. “So? I bet I’m in perfect health.”
“Mm, very healthy.”
But the healthier the results, the clearer it was that something else was wrong. Tang had seen Shen’s strange symptoms firsthand. If it wasn’t physical, then it had to be psychological. But what kind of psychological problem could cause such symptoms? Shen’s life didn’t seem to have any difficulties at all.
If Shen knew what Tang was thinking, she’d screech like a prairie dog: “My difficulty is that this blockhead won’t wake up!”
Their relationship had been exactly like this lately—Shen pushing forward with effort, while Tang accepted everything without realizing. It looked like progress, but in truth they were stuck in place.
Like a spring: squeeze it hard, it changes shape, but once you let go, it bounces back.
—
After rehearsal, Shen dragged Tang toward the cafeteria. They were long used to the admiring glances cast their way.
To their surprise, Jiang Lan had arrived unusually early and was even waiting obediently without starting to eat. She waved eagerly, “Over here!”
Something’s definitely up.
Shen sat across from her warily. “What are you plotting?”
Jiang Lan wasn’t upset by the jab. She pouted playfully, “What’s with that tone? With our relationship, you talk to me like this?”
She handed Shen a pair of clean chopsticks.
“You’re acting weird,” Shen said, hesitating to take them.
“Weird? No way.”
Just then, Ye Tao arrived with her tray. “Quit dragging it out. She wants you to watch her basketball game this afternoon.”
Jiang Lan quickly nodded, “Yes, yes!”
Shen was speechless.
It wasn’t the first time Jiang Lan had invited her to watch a game. Why all the fuss this time?
Ye Tao added, “She also wants Tang Yanzhao to come.”
Shen frowned. “Why?”
Of course she would’ve brought Tang anyway. But if Jiang Lan specifically mentioned it, there had to be more behind it.
“The more people, the more power. The closer I am to victory,” Jiang Lan declared confidently, clenching her fist.
Ye Tao rolled her eyes so hard they nearly flipped over. “Please. The truth is, Tang Yanzhao just topped the joint entrance exams. Her photo is already posted on the rankings boards of every major high school in Rongcheng. Almost everyone knows that Rongqing produced a near-perfect-scorer. Not only is she brilliant, but she’s also gorgeous. Add in her being your friend, and now rumors are flying everywhere. People are spinning the wildest stories—like she’s a descendant of the Tang family of Beicheng, or an heir to some ancient aristocracy. Some even claim her family’s in the mafia. Isn’t that ridiculous?”
Shen’s mouth twitched. “What nonsense. Didn’t the results just come out yesterday?”
Jiang Lan piped up: “Never underestimate our gossip queen here, Jianxi.”
Ye Tao continued, “Anyway, Tang’s basically the dark horse celebrity of the exams—brains and beauty combined. She’s gone viral in our rumor circles.”
“So what does that have to do with her going to your game?” Shen asked.
Jiang Lan cleared her throat. “Well, with her popularity, more people will show up. If she watches my game, all her fans will come too. Then I’ll dominate the court, and my legendary rise will begin this afternoon!”
Ye Tao couldn’t stand it anymore. “Jiang Lan, since when did you become this fake and pompous?”
“What are you talking about, Taozi? I’m just stating facts,” Jiang Lan mumbled through a mouthful of food.
Ye Tao smirked, “Do you remember, Jianxi, back in our last year of junior high? Jiang Lan played in a basketball match against No. 3 Middle School. There was an Alpha on the other team with incredible skills who ran circles around her. Throughout the whole game, Jiang Lan barely even touched the ball. She had bragged to us beforehand that she’d definitely win, but instead she got crushed so badly she practically went into hiding.”
Shen thought back. “Mm, I remember. So…”
Ye Tao narrowed her eyes at Jiang Lan, who was burying herself in her food. “That same Alpha will be there this time too.”
