The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 17
Tang Yanzhao was silent, and Shen Jianxi’s heart felt like it was filled with honey. This was the first time this quiet person had shown her such open emotions, right?
“Do you know your bust size?” Shen Jianxi had no choice but to change the subject.
When sensitive topics came up, Tang Yanzhao wasn’t as easily teased as usual. Her mood at the moment was shrouded in an indiscernible fog. Although difficult to detect, it was there, and even Shen Jianxi could feel her current low spirits and complex emotions.
Shen Jianxi’s joy was obvious. She recorded the measurements on a notepad and handed it to Tang Yanzhao, her chin lifted like a proud peacock. “Not bad, but still a little smaller than mine.”
“…”
Shen Jianxi stood beside her, took her hand that was hanging by her side, and shook it playfully while cooing, “Zhaozhao~”
Tang Yanzhao glanced at her, a muffled sound sliding out of her nose. “Hmm?”
“It’s your turn to measure me.”
“Okay,” Tang Yanzhao replied with unusual flatness.
Shen Jianxi flicked her long hair, her eyes sparkling.
This time, however, Shen Jianxi behaved properly throughout the measurement. After all, Zhaozhao was worried about her, and if she were punished again so soon, no amount of coaxing would work.
With the custom clothing requirements sorted, Shen Jianxi made a grand gesture and bought two sets of hanfu on the spot.
Tang Yanzhao initially wanted to refuse her own set, but Shen Jianxi was too good at coaxing. Her cat-like eyes looked at her, like a babbling brook in spring, clear and bright yet adorable. Tang Yanzhao could only let her have her way.
Besides, she looked really good wearing it.
After changing, Shen Jianxi gracefully walked toward her.
The cherry-pink pleated skirt was embroidered with a cute little fox with red ears. A few gold threads were mixed into the embroidery, and under the store’s ceiling lights, it seemed to cast a halo over the little fox. It was hidden under the mint-green short-sleeved top, only peeking out for a bit of air when a breeze came.
Shen Jianxi skipped two steps to the motionless Tang Yanzhao, spread out the silk wide sleeves with both hands, and the small bells on her wrists tinkled excitedly, just like their owner. She asked in a bouncy voice, “Do I look good?”
Tang Yanzhao stared at her, unable to respond for a long time.
Shen Jianxi suddenly lunged into her arms. The two, of similar height, were almost face to face. The scent of white sandalwood hit her nostrils without warning, and her sluggish mind was instantly awakened. She instinctively blinked frantically several times to adjust to the current situation.
“Wh-What’s wrong?”
Tang Yanzhao’s reaction exposed her state of mind, and Shen Jianxi’s body also reacted instantly. The reaction starting from her bones forced Shen Jianxi to let go, but she remained with her toes touching Tang Yanzhao’s. She playfully wiggled her nose at her. “Speechless?”
Tang Yanzhao lowered her eyes, attempting to hide the truth.
Because Shen Jianxi was too right.
“Am I pretty?” Shen Jianxi insisted, clearly not intending to let her off the hook.
If she couldn’t hug her, couldn’t she at least ask a few questions and get some flattery?
Tang Yanzhao nodded.
Shen Jianxi hummed in dissatisfaction. “Say it out loud.”
“You look good,” Tang Yanzhao swallowed.
The corners of Shen Jianxi’s eyes curled up with a smile. “How good?”
“…” Tang Yanzhao retreated into her shell again, not knowing how to answer.
So good that her heart was starting to beat uncontrollably again.
Having pushed her this far, Shen Jianxi decided not to tease her anymore. She took a step back and began to admire the elegant clothes Tang Yanzhao was wearing.
She had initially thought the combination of the moon-white beizi (a type of vest) and the dark green pleated skirt was too plain. She hadn’t expected it to have a unique charm when worn by Tang Yanzhao.
The cracked-ice plum blossom pattern on the beizi was subtle from a distance but looked a bit more striking up close. The matte satin skirt, which flowed like rippling water when she walked, was smooth and draped naturally. It didn’t look cumbersome; instead, it seemed to come alive with her every move.
Shen Jianxi’s gauzy, light silk was easy to snag, while Tang Yanzhao’s smooth satin seemed to repel others. They were two completely different materials, but standing together, they fit together as if by fate.
Shen Jianxi’s heart was also beating wildly for her; she couldn’t deny that she was also moved by Tang Yanzhao.
She walked over and took Tang Yanzhao’s hand, her voice unbelievably gentle. “Zhaozhao, let’s go for a walk.”
Tang Yanzhao’s pupils flickered, but she didn’t refuse her habitual intimacy. She nodded in response. “Okay.”
Even though the ancient city was well preserved, after so many years, it inevitably took on a commercial vibe.
Shen Jianxi pulled Tang Yanzhao to a stop at a roadside cotton candy stall with modern equipment. “Boss, can you make a little fox like this?”
She pointed to the fox embroidery on her clothes.
The boss greeted them enthusiastically. “Yes, I can, little lady. But custom designs cost a little more.”
“Price is not a problem. You just focus on making it.”
“Alrighty.”
Despite being a custom order, the advanced tools meant it only took about ten minutes for Shen Jianxi to hold a cotton candy fox slightly bigger than her face. It had pointy red ears, was entirely white, and had gold threads outlining its features, making it look playful and cute.
She examined it from all sides and smacked her lips. “It’s not as good as the real thing.”
Fortunately, the boss was busy serving other customers and didn’t hear Shen Jianxi’s complaint. Tang Yanzhao quietly took her hand and led her away from the stall.
The young lady, who had been doted on for two lifetimes, only cared about Tang Yanzhao’s feelings, not those of any unrelated person.
Just like now.
Shen Jianxi asked, “Oh, by the way, are you taking good care of the fox plushie I gave you?”
“Mm.”
Shen Jianxi narrowed her eyes. “What does ‘Mm’ mean? Yes or no?”
“Yes.”
Shen Jianxi let out a coquettish hum. “Don’t lie to me.”
“I won’t.”
“That’s more like it.” Shen Jianxi held the cotton candy to her mouth. “Try it.”
Tang Yanzhao tilted her head back to avoid it. “No need.”
“Rejecting me again?”
Tang Yanzhao paused, then slowly leaned forward. Her crimson tongue instinctively darted out and took a gentle lick. A sweet taste instantly spread across her taste buds.
Shen Jianxi’s eyes followed her unintentional movement. The moist, glistening tip of her tongue flashed between her lips. The red, velvety ears of the little fox only suffered a minor wound, but in Shen Jianxi’s eyes, it was like the prelude to a volcanic eruption.
“You, eat another bite,” Shen Jianxi said.
As soon as she spoke, she took a half-step forward and pulled her elbow back. The distance between them was now only big enough for this one fox cotton candy.
A gentle breeze blew, making the silk gauze skirt flutter like a swimming fish. Under the sunlight, the skirt shimmered, turning into a rainbow that wrapped around Shen Jianxi’s figure and brushed against Tang Yanzhao’s skirt. The wind’s intermittent presence created a feeling of lingering attachment.
Tang Yanzhao looked at her expression, a flicker of hesitation crossing her mind. But she was reminded of the word “rejecting,” and she had no choice but to suppress the thought.
It seemed there was indeed no need to refuse.
