The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 15
Shen Jianxi’s cat-like eyes were truly remarkable. One moment they were clear and bright, and the next, after two sentences of accusation and grievance, they were brimming with tears, looking pitifully at you. Gazing into her eyes, it felt as though the whole world owed her something.
Tang Yanzhao’s hands, which were naturally resting on her lap, trembled involuntarily. Her wrists bent upward in a barely noticeable arc before slowly falling again, her mind in turmoil.
“Tang Yanzhao, don’t lie to me anymore,” Shen Jianxi said with a thick nasal tone. She blinked twice, and a large tear plopped onto the floor.
The proud young lady who had always stood at the pinnacle of attention had never bowed her head for anyone. Yet at this moment, her tone and expression seemed to be pleading.
Tang Yanzhao’s lips tightened into a straight line. Time seemed to stand still, but a gentle, cool breeze wafted by, carrying with it Shen Jianxi’s faint sobs.
“I lived in Macau for a while. She was my neighbor back then. We weren’t close, no relationship,” Tang Yanzhao’s nails dug into her palms. The fine pain gave her a point of focus, and she finally explained in a steady voice.
“Then why did she suddenly come to Rongcheng?” Shen Jianxi’s lower eyelids were still moist with tears, and the corners of her lips curved slightly downward. Her questioning attitude, however, didn’t cause Tang Yanzhao the slightest bit of displeasure.
“I don’t know.”
Shen Jianxi took a deep breath, her back molars grinding audibly. She suddenly asked, “How many years older is she than you?”
“Nine years,” Tang Yanzhao answered without hesitation, blurting out the exact number.
Shen Jianxi said petulantly, “Nine years, not a big age gap. And she’s a high-level Alpha. You’d be a good match.”
Tang Yanzhao paused, then asked with hesitation, “What do you mean?”
Shen Jianxi scoffed, “Would you like her?”
“No.” Tang Yanzhao instinctively recoiled from the question, her eyes flashing with a subtle but definite disgust.
“Why?”
“It’s impossible for me to like her.”
Shen Jianxi sniffled, her tone becoming a little (spoiled/flirtatious). “Then swear it.”
Tang Yanzhao’s expression froze. She didn’t understand the meaning of this request, but she quickly held up three fingers as if to swear. “I swear I will never…”
Before she could finish, Shen Jianxi suddenly stopped her. “Never mind, Tang Yanzhao, come here and hug me.”
Tang Yanzhao hesitated. Shen Jianxi, for a rare change, didn’t urge her. Her eyes, washed by tears, looked even brighter as she watched Tang Yanzhao. The usually guileless Shen Jianxi was completely transparent at this moment.
Tang Yanzhao took a step forward. As soon as she opened her arms, Shen Jianxi, as if her body had been fitted with a magnet, automatically threw herself into her embrace.
The previous silence was merely Shen Jianxi’s moment of forbearance. If this ‘blockhead’ still didn’t react, then she would… she would ignore her today.
Little Ten’s data couldn’t calculate Shen Jianxi’s current state of mind. It asked, “Didn’t you choose her without a doubt? Why aren’t you making her swear anymore? Are you having second thoughts?”
Tang Yanzhao and Shen Jianxi were about the same height. She held herself tightly in Tang Yan-zhao’s arms, her face buried in her shoulder, greedily inhaling the barely perceptible scent of pomelo and rum.
The two extreme scents blended in her pheromones without any harshness. On the contrary, they complemented each other, the elegant freshness of the pomelo diluting the intense stimulation of the rum. It was a fierce fire that carefully protected a gentle breeze.
“Second thoughts? I told you, I will never have second thoughts in this life, not even in death.”
“Then why did you change your plan?”
Shen Jianxi, her face buried in Tang Yanzhao’s shoulder, gently rubbed her forehead against her. “I love her, and she loved me in our last life. But in this new life, I… I just don’t want to tie her down.”
“What?”
“If my appearance changes the world’s trajectory and she meets someone else she likes, I can let go. Oaths are a product of genuine feelings. Even if it’s just superstition, I don’t want to take that risk with her,” Shen Jianxi responded calmly. “Besides, your appearance already proves that this world isn’t purely the scientific world we normally perceive.”
Little Ten still maintained its original line of reasoning. “With me, you’ll always have a way out.”
“A way out? Away from Tang Yanzhao?” Shen Jianxi laughed and sighed. “Little Ten, you’re really stubborn, clinging to your cold, mechanical program. You probably can never understand the complex emotions of humans.”
“I truly don’t understand, but for the time I serve you, I will always be loyal. I cannot change the punishment, but you will not die.”
Tang Yan-zhao stared blankly at her palm. Her fingers, a light pink, were naturally relaxed and slightly bent. It was empty, yet she felt as though the warm, soft touch still lingered there.
Her mind was filled with the memory of the moment—the base of her palm against the firm small of Shen Jianxi’s back, her fingertips resting on her waist through her thin clothing, feeling excessively soft in comparison.
Tang Yanzhao remained in that position, not daring to move, even unconsciously slowing her breathing, afraid of revealing something abnormal she hadn’t even noticed herself.
Without realizing it, her blood seemed to have frozen, her sense of touch temporarily sealed. Only now did the sensations seem to slowly return, as if in hindsight.
Tang Yanzhao rubbed her fingers together, but that warmth and feeling refused to dissipate.
“Tang Yanzhao, read the third paragraph,” Hua Yan said, slapping the textbook on the podium and leaning against its edge.
Her naturally sensitive hearing had failed her after her consciousness had drifted away.
“Tang Yanzhao!” Hua Yan saw she wasn’t responding and raised her voice.
The girl with a bun sitting next to Tang Yanzhao, sensing trouble, quickly and secretly nudged her with her elbow. Tang Yanzhao finally came back to her senses and looked at the girl.
The girl lowered her head and whispered a reminder.
“What’s on your mind, so distracted?” Hua Yan’s lips curled into a playful smirk, her words full of teasing.
Tang Yanzhao’s expression was calm, without the embarrassment of being called out. She looked up and met Hua Yan’s gaze, about to speak, when she heard Shen Jianxi, two rows ahead and to the left, slowly say, “She’s thinking about me.”
Hua Yan’s eyebrow subtly raised in response. She looked at Tang Yan-zhao as if to confirm, “Is that right?”
Tang Yanzhao’s eyes met Shen Jianxi’s. Shen Jianxi even lifted her chin at her. As the whole class broke out in a chorus of “oohs,” the anchor point of Tang Yanzhao’s shy emotions seemed to be on Shen Jianxi. As soon as her eyes met Shen Jianxi’s bright gaze, that blush slowly crept up from her neck to her earlobes. Her lips parted, and she said, “Yes.”
Hua Yan let out a light laugh. “Don’t get distracted again during tomorrow’s joint exam.”
There was no blame in her tone. Shen Jianxi was only slightly surprised but didn’t dwell on it.
After class, Shen Jianxi squeezed into the seat next to Tang Yanzhao. The tactful girl with the bun immediately made an excuse to get some water and left.
“Were you really thinking about me?”
Shen Jianxi had only said that because her ‘young lady’ attitude had kicked in, wanting to get back at Hua Yan. She hadn’t expected this blockhead, Tang Yanzhao, to actually admit it. After all, she hadn’t felt the punishment, so she naturally wouldn’t know what Tang Yanzhao was thinking at that moment. But it certainly wouldn’t be ‘falling in love,’ so this was an unexpected surprise.
Tang Yanzhao licked her dry lips with the tip of her tongue, awkwardly turning her face away. A barely audible “mm” came from her nose.
In the noisy classroom, Shen Jianxi still sensitively captured the response from the person she loved. Her heart was bubbling, and she reached out to cup Tang Yanzhao’s face, forcing her to make eye contact. “Zhaozhao, you’re so cute.”
“…”
The delicate skin on her palms, Shen Jianxi kneaded it vigorously, squeezing her mouth into an “o” shape. “I’ve decided. If you do well on this joint exam, I’ll give you a gift.”
Tang Yanzhao’s earlobes were burning hot, but she was about to open her mouth and say, “I don’t…”
Before she could finish, Shen Jianxi knew Tang Yanzhao wouldn’t say anything good. Her cat-like eyes narrowed dangerously, a strong warning in her gaze.
Tang Yanzhao’s remaining words were blocked in her throat, with no chance of escaping.
Shen Jianxi was extremely satisfied with her reaction, her eyes and brow corners blooming with a spring-like cheerfulness. “That’s more like it. You have to keep this up. Not just accepting my gifts, but also keep thinking about me.”
