The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 13
When Shen Jianxi returned, Tang Yanzhao and the kitten were still in the same positions, ignoring each other.
She even suspected that they would have been “staring” at each other all night if she hadn’t come back.
Shen Jianxi tore open a sausage she’d bought, crouched down, and tentatively offered it to the kitten.
Tang Yanzhao tapped her phone twice. “I’ll go over there to take a call.”
Shen Jianxi waved her hand back. “Okay.”
Tang Yanzhao’s eyes lingered for a few seconds with a look of unease before she walked away.
Her mother had called her earlier while she was watching the kitten, but it wasn’t a good time to answer, so she had sent a message instead. Now that she was a bit farther away, she called back.
“Hello, Mom.”
“Did you get to school yet?”
Tang Yanzhao watched the girl and the cat and answered truthfully, “Not yet. I’m almost there.”
“Be careful. Get along with Xixi. The Shen family has been very kind to us.”
Ever since Shen Jianxi’s attitude had softened, Shen Xiaoyin’s pressure had eased.
Tang Xuan was a graduate of a top international university’s finance program. However, by the time they met, a pregnant Tang Xuan had already quit her job and was preparing to be a stay-at-home mom. Shen Xiaoyin hadn’t looked into why she was in her current situation, as she considered it a private matter.
She never doubted Tang Xuan’s abilities, and Tang Xuan hadn’t disappointed her. Shen Xiaoyin helped her get a job at the Shen corporation and even gave her an advance on three months’ salary.
With that money, Tang Xuan moved out of the slum and rented a small two-bedroom apartment near the company.
This both repaid the favor and prevented people from gossiping.
“You can come back to stay during the holidays. Your room is always kept clean.”
“I have a dorm at school. No need to waste that money.”
Tang Xuan’s clear, bright laugh came through the phone. “I have to keep a home for my Zhaozhao.”
A warm feeling flowed through Tang Yanzhao’s heart. Not far away, Shen Jianxi and the white kitten were still “battling” each other.
The kitten seemed to be overly cautious. Shen Jianxi patiently coaxed it. Although Tang Yanzhao couldn’t hear her words, she could automatically piece together her soft and sweet tone, which sounded a bit spoiled and cute.
Thinking of this, Tang Yanzhao couldn’t help but smile.
“Zhaozhao, are you still there?” Tang Xuan hadn’t heard a reply for a while and thought the call had been disconnected.
Tang Yanzhao snapped out of her thoughts. “I’m here.”
“I was saying that the seasons are changing, so remember to add or remove clothes and don’t catch a cold.”
“I know.” Tang Yanzhao pursed her lips, looked down at a small stone at her feet, and nudged it with her shoe. After a few seconds of silence, she said, “Mom, I saw Huayan.”
“Huayan?” Tang Xuan’s voice was full of surprise. “Is that the one from over there? Why would she suddenly come to Rongcheng?”
Tang Yanzhao nodded to herself. “Yeah, she’s our homeroom teacher now. I don’t know why she suddenly came to Rongcheng, but she seems to be trying to find out about our relationship with the Shen family.”
“…It’s okay. If she doesn’t do anything else out of line, just treat her normally.”
“Okay.”
Just as she was speaking, Shen Jianxi suddenly cried out. Tang Yanzhao’s nerves instantly tensed. She quickly said her goodbyes, put her phone in her pocket, and jogged over to Shen Jianxi, her voice full of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Shen Jianxi pitifully held out the back of her hand. There were several noticeable red marks on her smooth, fair skin, and beads of blood were seeping out of the scratches.
“It suddenly rushed over to grab the sausage. I didn’t have time to move away and it scratched me.” Her voice was already choked with sobs.
Tang Yanzhao grabbed her wrist, her brows furrowed so tightly they looked like they could kill a fly. The culprit, meanwhile, had already escaped with the sausage in tow.
“Come on, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
They arrived at the hospital at a little past ten at night. Tang Yanzhao stood next to Shen Jianxi with a low mood.
Shen Jianxi’s eyes were red and teary, and she looked up at Tang Yanzhao with a piteous expression. “Zhaozhao, it hurts~”
Tang Yanzhao felt an inexpressible heaviness in her chest. Her deep gaze fell on the doctor’s movements as he applied alcohol. The stinging sensation made Shen Jianxi flinch, but the doctor, as if he had been expecting it, held her wrist still.
The tears that had been on the verge of falling now flowed down her cheeks, reflecting the light from the fluorescent bulb.
“Can you come a little closer?” Shen Jianxi hooked a finger in Tang Yanzhao’s clothes, looking at her with a helpless expression.
Tang Yanzhao secretly gritted her teeth. She couldn’t bring herself to refuse and subconsciously took a step forward, instantly closing the small distance between them.
Shen Jianxi, who was sitting on a stool, naturally reached for Tang Yanzhao’s hand, which was hanging by her side. She rested her forehead against Tang Yanzhao’s firm stomach. The faint scent of green grapefruit rum filled her nostrils. The familiar feeling was like being back in her dreams.
But this time, it wasn’t fear, but a sense of security—a unique sense of security that belonged only to Tang Yanzhao.
Even though she wasn’t deeply in love yet, Tang Yanzhao’s pheromones still had a magical way of calming Shen Jianxi’s emotions.
Tang Yanzhao looked down at the top of her dark hair. The soft texture and warmth of her right palm were clinging to her. Her emotions finally won out over her rationality. She tightened her right hand, holding Shen Jianxi’s hand firmly in her palm, and stroked her smooth, long hair with her left.
Shen Jianxi’s heart blossomed.
Tang Yanzhao, this block of wood, was making progress so fast!
She was very satisfied that Tang Yanzhao could do this much, even if she didn’t say anything.
“Alright, hold it down,” the doctor said.
Shen Jianxi got up from Tang Yanzhao’s embrace and obediently held down the cotton swab with her left hand.
“After the shot, you need to observe for half an hour. If there are no issues, you can leave,” the doctor said as he packed up his equipment.
“Thank you, doctor.”
With that, Tang Yanzhao led Shen Jianxi to a bench in the hallway to rest.
“Are you cold?” Tang Yanzhao asked proactively.
Shen Jianxi shook her head. “No, I’m not.”
Tang Yanzhao looked at Shen Jianxi’s wrist, which the doctor had held tightly. Below her fair skin were winding, bruised-looking veins. Three bandages covered the back of her entire hand, which was curled into a loose fist in her lap. And the not-yet-faded red mark on her slender wrist combined with the scratches to assault her vision.
Tang Yanzhao was a little rattled. Her ink-black eyes fixed on Shen Jianxi’s wrist. “Does it hurt?”
Shen Jianxi felt her gaze and placed her right hand in Tang Yanzhao’s palm, her voice weak and a little coquettish. “It hurts.”
Tang Yanzhao lifted her hand as if she were holding some precious piece of jade. She cupped Shen Jianxi’s slender wrist and gently stroked it with her thumb.
Shen Jianxi’s heart swelled with happiness that Tang Yanzhao had brought. She whispered in a light, ambiguous tone, “Zhaozhao, my scratches hurt a little, too. Can you blow on them for me?”
Tang Yanzhao didn’t reply, but Shen Jianxi felt a gentle puff of air on the back of her hand.
It was from Zhaozhao.
Shen Jianxi couldn’t hold it in anymore. She used her uninjured hand to cup Tang Yanzhao’s face.
Her warm, delicate palm pressed against Tang Yanzhao’s face, which was a little cool from the night breeze. Tang Yanzhao looked at Shen Jianxi with a bewildered expression, not moving away or refusing her touch. “What’s wrong?”
The stars in Shen Jianxi’s eyes were practically overflowing. “Zhaozhao, how can you be so good!”
She couldn’t express herself in words, but she showed it through her actions. Loving a person like this was incredibly lucky. And to be loved by a person like this was an unparalleled happiness.
Of course, if she could express herself more, that would be even better.
Shen Jianxi thought greedily.
Tang Yanzhao felt a little embarrassed by her burning gaze and was the first to look away.
Because of Shen Jianxi’s movements, the cotton swab on the injection site had shifted. She quickly moved to sit on Shen Jianxi’s right side, took the cotton swab from her hand, and checked it carefully. Fortunately, it was no longer bleeding.
She wiped the area twice for Shen Jianxi before throwing the swab away. When she sat back down next to her, Shen Jianxi naturally leaned her head on her shoulder.
“Are you feeling unwell? Should we ask the doctor to check?”
Tang Yanzhao thought she might be having a bad reaction to the vaccine.
“No, I’m just thinking about that cat.”
Tang Yanzhao’s brows instinctively furrowed. “What about it?”
Shen Jianxi slightly closed her eyes, her voice hazy. “I talked to it for a long time, telling it I wouldn’t hurt it and to trust me. And I even brought it a sausage, right in front of it. That was my sincerity. I approached it little by little, and it didn’t react, so I thought it trusted me. Who would have thought that when I got a little closer, it would suddenly lash out and scratch me, then grab the sausage and run away without looking back.”
At first, Tang Yanzhao thought she was just recounting what had happened, but the more she listened, the more she felt there was a deeper meaning.
Tang Yanzhao turned her head to look at Shen Jianxi. Shen Jianxi happened to lift her chin, and their eyes met. Shen Jianxi asked with a beaming smile, “Doesn’t it feel a lot like you?”
“…”
Shen Jianxi saw her throat bob up and down. Since they were so close, she could faintly hear her swallow. She sat up, unable to help but laugh. “But our Zhaozhao is more sensible than it is, and more obedient, right?”
Tang Yanzhao looked away and didn’t answer.
Shen Jianxi used her index finger to trace Tang Yanzhao’s clear jawline, her tone a soft murmur. “But that little cat must have been bullied and wronged by many, many people, which is why it’s so defensive. I wasn’t really angry, just a little sad. But just a little bit.”
Only a little bit…
About half an hour later, Shen Jianxi felt okay, except for some discomfort from her scratches. The two of them were getting ready to leave.
Unexpectedly, they ran into Jiang Lan in the hospital lobby at around eleven o’clock at night.
“What are you two doing here?” Jiang Lan looked at them with a dumbfounded expression.
Shen Jianxi waved the hand that was still covered in bandages. “I was scratched by a cat, so I came here for a rabies shot. What about you? Why are you at the hospital alone so late?”
“I’m with a friend,” Jiang Lan said with a yawn.
Shen Jianxi’s eyelids twitched. “Who?”
“It’s a long story. Just a friend you don’t know. I’ll tell you another time.” Jiang Lan rubbed her eyes several times. “If you guys are okay, I’ll go back up. I’m so sleepy. Be careful on your way back.”
“Okay.”
It was too late, so Shen Jianxi didn’t have the heart to press her for details.
It was too late to go back to school. The dorms would be locked. Going back to the villa wasn’t a good option either, since it was too far.
“So… a hotel?” Shen Jianxi used this ambiguous statement to tease Tang Yanzhao.
