The Eldest Lady always wants to have a double O Relationship with her old enemy - Chapter 11
“Why are you alone?” Jiang Lan ran over, out of breath, with sweat beading on her forehead. She plopped down in the seat opposite Shen Jianxi, and the fragile chair protested with a little shake.
Shen Jianxi gave her a disgusted look and tossed her a wet wipe. “Wipe that off. Isn’t it dirty?”
Jiang Lan shrugged, wiped the sweat from her face, and asked, “Where’s Taozi?”
“She went to get food.”
Jiang Lan tapped the table. “Don’t tell me, Miss, that you sent her to get food for three people while you just sit here and enjoy yourself without even helping?”
“I’m not like you. I have Zhaozhao to help me,” she said, looking at the tall figure of Tang Yanzhao not far away at the counter, a smile of unconcealed smugness on her lips.
Jiang Lan hissed, “How did Tang Yanzhao become your errand girl?”
“What errand girl?” Ye Tao walked over, holding a bowl of clay pot rice noodles.
Jiang Lan, without any pretense, reached for it with a cheeky smile. “Thanks, Taozi.”
Ye Tao rolled her eyes. “Yours is over there. You’re already here, and you still expect me to serve you? Go get it yourself.”
The other bowl was on a small table next to the condiment station.
Jiang Lan raised an eyebrow at the retort and got up to leave.
Ye Tao sat down naturally next to where Jiang Lan had been, stirring her rice noodles. “I have to say, this whole thing was pretty effective. With Tang Yanzhao standing there, the number of random people trying to hit on us has gone down a lot.”
Shen Jianxi’s gaze was always on her, and just then, Tang Yanzhao looked back. Their eyes met, and Shen Jianxi instinctively responded with a genuine smile that reached her heart, playfully tilting her head to look even cuter.
Tang Yanzhao’s lips twitched before she feigned indifference and turned her head away.
Shen Jianxi was amused by her serious demeanor and laughed softly, responding to Ye Tao’s comment. “If anyone tries anything with Zhaozhao, it’s a clear sign they’re messing with the Shen family. I’m sure anyone with a brain wouldn’t dare.”
Ye Tao nodded in agreement. “That’s for sure.”
Jiang Lan and Tang Yanzhao returned one after the other.
When Shen Jianxi saw that Tang Yanzhao had only brought back one serving of Korean bibimbap, she subconsciously started to get up. Tang Yanzhao calmly said, “You still have an injury on your knee. I’ll get it for you.”
“Okay,” Shen Jianxi said sweetly, enjoying her meticulous care.
This made Jiang Lan’s expression twitch. She nudged Ye Tao, who was sitting next to her, with her elbow. “Look at them.”
Ye Tao rolled her eyes so hard they almost disappeared. “Eat it or don’t eat it. Give it back to me.”
She made a move to snatch the lunch that Jiang Lan had just received. Jiang Lan quickly moved her tray away, guarding her food.
“I surrender,” Jiang Lan said.
Ye Tao was speechless and stopped her meaningless bickering.
Tang Yanzhao quickly brought the other portion back. The food-guarding Jiang Lan saw that the two of them had identical bibimbap. Her greasy lips moved as she said, “Oh my goodness, this errand service isn’t very skilled. Our Miss doesn’t eat carrots, don’t you know? A bad review for Xixi, definitely a bad review.”
“You’re asking for a beating!”
Shen Jianxi glared at her, then said softly, “Don’t listen to her nonsense.”
Tang Yanzhao’s brows furrowed slightly. “You don’t eat carrots?”
“It’s not just carrots. She doesn’t eat onions, ginger, garlic, cilantro, carrots, or celery. I’ve never met anyone pickier than her.” Jiang Lan was on a roll and couldn’t be stopped.
Tang Yanzhao looked up at Jiang Lan, then back at Shen Jianxi, and blinked to confirm.
Shen Jianxi didn’t think there was anything wrong with being a picky eater and responded with a charming smile. “That’s right. You need to remember all these things in the future, okay?”
“Okay.” Tang Yanzhao pursed her lips, paused, and then said, “I’ll pick them out for you.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she pulled Shen Jianxi’s bibimbap bowl in front of her and began to meticulously pick out the shredded carrots, putting them in her own bowl.
While she was busy, Shen Jianxi took a peeled, boiled shrimp and carefully fed it to Tang Yanzhao, who was focused on picking out the vegetables.
“Zhaozhao, open up.”
As Shen Jianxi’s hand came closer, Tang Yanzhao instinctively flinched back. But upon hearing Shen Jianxi’s voice, she quickly composed herself and said in a normal tone, “You eat it. I can do it myself.”
“Hmm~” Shen Jianxi just let out a playful little hum.
Tang Yanzhao secretly bit her lip and slowly opened her mouth, her warm breath caressing Shen Jianxi’s fingers. Just as her teeth were about to clamp down on the shrimp, Shen Jianxi’s hand suddenly trembled, and the shrimp fell freely into Tang Yanzhao’s bowl.
Jiang Lan, who had been watching with gritted teeth, said gleefully, “Your Highness, she’s toying with you.”
Ye Tao was chewing on her chopsticks, enjoying her meal. This annoying person next to her suddenly said that, and for a moment, she regretted not buying her something to make her mute.
The two of them, however, were completely undisturbed by the others. Shen Jianxi explained, “My hand slipped.”
Tang Yanzhao’s expression was calm. She simply said, “Hmm,” then returned the bibimbap, now free of carrots, to Shen Jianxi, adding, “You eat it yourself.”
Shen Jianxi felt a little disappointed; it was so close to being a successful feeding. It was her own fault for being so clumsy.
“Shouldn’t you blame Tang Yanzhao for being so reserved? She looks calm on the outside, but her heart must be racing on the inside. She even pretends to be unfazed when she talks to you,” the little voice in her head, ‘Xiao Shi,’ said softly.
Shen Jianxi’s disappointment was instantly replaced with joy. “That’s a good point.”
Thinking about it from this new perspective made her feel infinitely better. Shen Jianxi watched Tang Yanzhao put the shrimp she had peeled into her mouth, and her happiness was palpable.
“What are your plans for this weekend?” Ye Tao asked.
Jiang Lan spread her hands helplessly, her face in a grimace. “You know we have to train on the weekends.”
Ye Tao scoffed. “Who asked you?”
Jiang Lan was completely unfazed by the retort and cheekily snatched the last fried egg from Ye Tao’s bowl. Ye Tao swatted at her a couple of times but couldn’t stop her, so she just let it go.
Shen Jianxi’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Family dinner this weekend.”
Then she looked at Tang Yanzhao. “You have to come, too.”
Tang Yanzhao nodded. “My mom told me.”
“Ooh, meeting the parents,” Ye Tao said in a gossipy tone.
Shen Jianxi didn’t shy away from the double meaning of the phrase. She responded playfully, “Yep.”
Meanwhile, the usually quiet Tang Yanzhao’s ears secretly turned a shade of pink.
Shen Jianxi noticed the change and leaned closer, catching her physical reaction. She deliberately asked, “At the dinner, our moms will probably ask about Yang Yuhan. What do you plan to say?”
Tang Yanzhao’s lips became a straight line. “Tell them the truth.”
Shen Jianxi’s eyebrows raised slightly. “What will you say?”
“You helped me.” Tang Yanzhao looked into Shen Jianxi’s bright, cat-like eyes. This time, she saw a hint of mischief, completely undisguised. It was a clear and open display of her intentions, openly telling others what she wanted.
“Just that?” Shen Jianxi sounded a little dissatisfied.
Tang Yanzhao’s thoughts were racing, and she fell silent.
Suddenly, Ye Tao exclaimed excitedly, “Look, look! Our new class teacher is so pretty!”
Everyone’s attention was drawn to her. On Ye Tao’s phone was a picture of a woman with long, wavy chestnut hair, wearing a camel trench coat, a black pencil skirt, and a pair of tall boots. She was leaning against a vintage telephone booth, arms crossed, smiling freely at the camera.
It had to be said—the outfit was perfect, her looks were perfect, and the vibe was perfect.
“She looks much more approachable than your previous teacher,” Jiang Lan commented objectively.
Ye Tao was quite pleased with the remark. “I thought it would take a few days, but I didn’t expect it to be this fast. I heard we’ll get to meet her this afternoon.”
Shen Jianxi wasn’t very enthusiastic about it and just gave a lazy, perfunctory response. Tang Yanzhao, as always, maintained her quiet personality and didn’t join the conversation.
They did meet their new class teacher in the first class that afternoon.
“Hello, everyone. I’m your new class teacher, my name is Hua Yan.”
After her clear voice fell, a few hoots and cheers erupted in the classroom.
Hua Yan knocked on the desk, her expression serious. “I’m not a fan of pointless talk. Besides my self-introduction, I have two things to announce. First, in mid-November, the school will organize a joint exam with five other schools. Those who rank at the top will receive a prize and a certificate from the school, and there will be an opportunity to be recommended for a national academic competition. Second, at the end of December, the school will hold its anniversary celebration. Each class needs to sign up for at least one group performance, such as singing, dancing, poetry recitals, dramas, or musicals. The class president should organize and collect the names and submit the list to me by next Monday.”
Her resolute demeanor shattered the approachable image from the picture, and everyone below became timid and quiet, not daring to cause a ruckus.
The air was still for a while. Hua Yan’s sharp gaze swept across the classroom, finally stopping at the third-to-last row against the wall. She zeroed in on Tang Yanzhao. “Tang Yanzhao, come with me.”
Shen Jianxi instinctively turned her head to look at her. Tang Yanzhao obediently said, “Okay,” and followed Hua Yan out of the classroom.
Ye Tao leaned closer to Shen Jianxi. “Do they know each other?”
Shen Jianxi’s brows furrowed. She shook her head. “I don’t know.”
In the previous life, there was no incident of exposing Yang Yuhan’s actions. Thus, there was no bribery scandal involving Xu Hui, who would not have been fired from Rongqing for groundlessly slandering Tang Yanzhao, and Hua Yan would not have come.
Ye Tao was a little surprised. “You don’t know?”
Shen Jianxi looked at her strangely. “Is it weird that I don’t know?”
“Aren’t you two dating?” Ye Tao had an expression that said, “I know everything.”
But Shen Jianxi denied it. “No.”
“No?!” Ye Tao exclaimed, drawing the attention of others. She quickly shrunk her neck. “At lunch, you asked what Tang Yanzhao would tell your moms, and when she didn’t answer right away, weren’t you waiting for her to announce your relationship?”
The gloom over Shen Jianxi’s head lifted a little, and she said with a smirk, “You noticed?”
“It was so obvious.”
Shen Jianxi let out a huffy little sound. “But she didn’t notice.”
“So, are you two really together?”
Shen Jianxi gave a little pout and shook her head. “Do you think that’s possible?”
Ye Tao clicked her tongue. “Well, I guess. With Tang Yanzhao’s personality, if you don’t push her, she’ll never admit it.”
“So you don’t find it strange?” Shen Jianxi was being stubborn with ‘Xiao Shi.’ Although she wasn’t afraid of real-world problems, she still hoped for well wishes. Of course, she hoped her friends and family would accept her.
Ye Tao asked suspiciously, “What’s so strange about it?”
“We’re both omegas.”
“So what? Readers of novels are very accepting. You two are a small case. As long as you like each other, who cares about all that other stuff?”
True, as long as they liked each other, who cared? But Shen Jianxi still needed to confirm the relationship between Hua Yan and Tang Yanzhao.
After all, it concerned Tang Yanzhao, and she had to take it seriously.
