The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 25
“Don’t run!” The man was startled by Yao Yuan’s action and abruptly stood up.
The hand he stretched forward made a cracking sound, twisting and folding from the wrist to the elbow. Then, half of his body suddenly lifted into the air, and he fell to the floor headfirst, landing on his neck.
Xing kong, who had just used a physical hypnosis spell, appeared behind the man and waved at Yao Yuan.
“Xing kong, you didn’t kill someone, did you?” Yao Yuan leaned forward to look. Good heavens, the man had been turned into a puddle of a man!
“Not yet. If we leave him on the spot for three days, he should become a corpse.”
“Isn’t that too harsh? Even if he wanted to do something bad, he hadn’t succeeded yet, right?”
Xing kong didn’t answer quickly. She walked over to the pizza and tapped it. “Do you know what he added to this?”
Could it be… Yao Yuan’s mind quickly ran through countless possible plots—those little pills that always appeared between the supporting actress, the male lead, the female lead, and the supporting actor, which would quickly lead to that kind of thing?
No door could stop a demon. Xing kong passed through the side door. When she emerged, she held several small bottles filled with powder. “I don’t need to lift a finger to kill him. You just need to put these things that belong to him next to him.”
Yao Yuan was silent for a moment. “I’ll tell Da Ju to call the police.” She looked with disgust at the half-dead guy on the floor.
It seemed that the story about a daughter was also a lie he used to lure young girls.
She casually pressed the doorknob of the room she suspected belonged to a girl. Click. The door really opened.
A pair of terrified eyes were revealed inside. How thin the girl was! It was the first time Yao Yuan had seen such a thin child in real life. She was almost a layer of pale skin wrapped around a skeleton, with only her eyes still showing a timid spirit. In the corner of the room lay a tiny cat, chained up and reduced to nothing but a layer of feline skin.
By the time Da Ju arrived and finished dealing with the matter, the night was already deep.
“You resolved this very thoroughly. The rest will be left to the police.” He took a crumpled booklet from his pocket and handed it to Yao Yuan. “Here, the spells I promised to teach you.”
Four large characters were written on the thin booklet: Spell Fundamentals. No matter how one looked at it, it resembled five-cent-a-pound street vendor merchandise.
Yao Yuan excitedly flipped open the book, but after turning a few pages, her brows furrowed. “Why is this book full of illustrations?”
“Martial arts manuals are all in this format. Just the initial stage of ‘Guiding Qi into the Body’ requires three to five years of hard work.” He pulled out some water-soaked paper from another pocket. “I don’t have time to teach you hand-by-hand right now, so use this paper to try drawing talismans.”
“Hey, wait for me.” Yao Yuan quickly tried to stop him.
“I’m not lying to you; I’m genuinely busy right now. How about you handle the police side? And you can arrange the girl’s placement.”
“Farewell…” She had no choice but to watch Da Ju leave, placing the thin booklet and the suspected scratch paper talismans into her bag. “Xing kong, let’s go back to the rental apartment now.”
“Rental apartment?” The demon naturally took her hand. “Let’s go back to our house instead.”
“No, I haven’t moved yet.” She walked forward a few steps on her own.
“Want to bet? You’ll definitely run into trouble if you go back to the rental apartment now.”
“You came to that conclusion using Space-Time Magic, didn’t you?”
“I wouldn’t use Miracle Magic on something so trivial.”
Yao Yuan stared into the demon’s eyes for a moment, then looked away. “I won’t bet with you. If I bet with you, I might win, but if I don’t bet with you, I definitely won’t lose!”
Arriving at the rental apartment, Yao Yuan hid behind Xing kong. “You open the door.” She stared intently at the door, afraid that as soon as it opened, three or five robbers would leap out.
Xing kong pinched her cheek, put her hand on the doorknob, and click, the door opened in response. The room shrouded in darkness was very quiet, and there was no waste paper in the trash can this time.
“Haha~ It really wasn’t accurate without magic, huh?” Yao Yuan triumphantly swayed her hips as she walked in.
“Want to eat some late-night snack?”
“No, I’m going to take a shower and sleep.” She held her pajamas and twisted the bathroom door handle. She had even worn heavy makeup for the apprenticeship ceremony today.
Yao Yuan first spent a long time washing the makeup off her face, then stood in the bathtub to shower. As the warm water flowed from the showerhead, she couldn’t help but fondly recall the extreme luxury she had enjoyed on the cruise ship the previous two days.
The new house Xing kong bought also had a large bathtub.
Indeed, it’s easy to go from frugality to luxury, and hard to go from luxury to frugality, she slowly closed her eyes.
…
“Where did you spend the money, tell me honestly!” “I’ll beat you to death, you call the few stinking coins you earn ‘money’?”
Amidst the sound of rushing water, a burst of shouting suddenly mingled in. She abruptly twisted the faucet shut.
The shouting hadn’t stopped, followed by a fight. It was a mix of the sound of fists hitting flesh and a woman’s screams.
Yao Yuan quickly poked her head out of the bathroom. “Xing kong, please deal with this.”
The noise instantly stopped. The demon smiled innocently. “I’ve shielded the sound.”
“No, can you help separate them?” If they keep fighting, they might kill someone.
“How do I separate them? Make them forget each other?”
She shook her head. Who knows the full story of strangers? “Can you make the man go out for a walk and stop hitting people here?”
Xing kong nodded and walked out the door. When Yao Yuan wrapped her hair and came out to look for the hairdryer, a crying neighbor was sitting on the sofa. She immediately felt a headache and glared fiercely at the demon: Xing kong was not a kind-hearted person. Letting the female neighbor sit in the living room was definitely to watch the show.
She didn’t even bother to dry her hair, running to pour a cup of hot water and placing it on the coffee table. “Miss Zou…” This doesn’t seem like the time to say ‘my condolences,’ does it?
Fortunately, Zou Wenli didn’t need any comfort at all. She blew her nose with the last tissue on the table and wiped the blood from her nose. “Oh dear, I’ve made a spectacle of myself. That bastard is truly awful.”
“Do you need me to help you call the police?”
“No, no, I was just complaining.” Zou Wenli quickly changed her tone.
Yao Yuan looked closely. Good heavens, half of the woman’s hair was scattered, she had a black eye, and a bloody mark was visible on her lip.
“How about I take you to the hospital?”
“I don’t have the money for a hospital. Do you have any painkillers? Anti-inflammatory ointment would also work.”
“I don’t have any of those either. I rarely suffer external injuries.”
Zou Wenli awkwardly covered the tear in her skirt and didn’t respond.
“Then I’ll go downstairs and buy some medicine for you. Are you allergic to any medication?”
“I can’t trouble you. I’ll go myself.” Zou Wenli quickly stood up with her, then stammered, “Can I borrow two hundred yuan from you?”
Yao Yuan felt a little sad. The person in front of her didn’t look much older than herself but was living like this. “Fine, I’ll transfer two hundred yuan to you. Go buy some medicine and put it on.”
As soon as the money was transferred, Yao Yuan and Zou Wenli stared at each other. “Aren’t you going to buy medicine? I want to sleep, too.”
“Yao… Miss, could I discuss something with you… What if, what if he comes back tonight and hits me again?”
Yao Yuan really didn’t know what to do. “Then you should take the chance to leave him. You don’t have children or a marriage.”
“No, no. If I run away, he’ll beat me to death even more. Besides, he treats me very well when his head is clear.” The neighbor’s eyes were full of panic, as if she was surprised that someone would even suggest such a thing.
“So?” Yao Yuan completely lost her patience.
“Can I stay here tonight? I don’t mind sleeping on the sofa.” Zou Wenli looked at her with the pathetic, puppy-dog eyes of a stray.
Yao Yuan looked at Xing kong: So that’s it. This is what you were waiting for. Playing a game with the demon—if you don’t bet, you still lose!
“You win.” She sighed heavily. “You sleep here tonight. Xing kong and I will go out for a walk. Don’t wait up for us.”
Amidst Zou Wenli’s uneasy and constrained expression, the door closed heavily.
In the new house, Yao Yuan weakly covered her face with a pillow, throwing the half-read Spell Fundamentals to the side.
She still ended up relying on the demon because she absolutely did not want to stay in the same room with that person full of negative energy. Only after entering society did, she realizes how vast the world was and that even such indescribable people existed.
She was about to blame the woman who would rather be brutally beaten than leave her good-for-nothing lover, but then she suddenly remembered that she, too, was an idiot who had gambled her soul and still intended to honor the contract.
“Xing kong, who do you think is more foolish, her or me?”
“Xiao Yuan, are you currently curious about how to provoke me?”
“I… I’m sorry, I shouldn’t compare you to that kind of person.” Yao Yuan apologized sincerely, a glimmer of hope budding in her eyes. “You mean to say~ even when you are cruel, you have style?”
“Style?” The demon turned her head and patted Yao Yuan’s shoulder with one hand.
“Yes, you probably wouldn’t enjoy beating a soul, would you? That would be like a nouveau riche tearing up money for fun.” Half of Yao Yuan’s body leaned against her.
“It’s true that not many demons would do that. The pleasure of whipping or using a certain weapon is better experienced on a tangible, physical being.”
Seeing Yao Yuan’s stunned expression, Xing kong patted the back of her head. “That was a good way to change the subject this time. Remember, I cannot tolerate you comparing yourself to that kind of turbid body.”
Turbid body was probably some specialized term from Purgatory.
The lights went out, and the demon cupped her face in the dark. “When you’re thinking seriously…” A fingertip lightly traced her eyelid. “…you are very cute.”
