The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 18
Bread and yogurt were placed flat on the tray. Xingkong used a small knife to cut an opening, stuffing the just-fried egg and chicken slices into the bread, and finally spreading a layer of blueberry jam.
“You’re doing magic again?” Yao Yuan, who was lying on the bed, put down her phone and picked up the bread. Jam soon stained her lips.
“The chicken breast was frozen a few days ago, the bread and jam were just bought. Why are you looking at me like that?” Xingkong propped her head with one hand and pulled out a slice of bread from the paper bag.
“Nothing, it’s quite nice.”
It was a bit early for dinner right now. Yao Yuan glanced at her phone again: still no emails, calls, or texts, and even the school chat group was frighteningly quiet.
“Finding a job is really hard,” she heavily flopped back onto the comforter. “Isn’t there anything that makes money fast and isn’t illegal!”
“Think about what you genuinely want to do.”
Hearing this, Yao Yuan suddenly lifted her head, looking at Xingkong as if she had seen a ghost.
“What’s wrong?”
“You’re actually willing to say something serious. I thought you would come out with a line like, ‘I have money, just spend it,’ or ‘One phone call and I can summon a truckload of listed company bosses in minutes.’” Xingkong squeezed her bulging cheeks. “We just said we need to learn to show respect—where did you get these ideas?”
“I’ve considered writing. I’ve read some super popular novels, ugh, let go!” Yao Yuan rubbed her cheeks. “But writing is too difficult. You don’t make money in the early stages, and later, you update 3,000 characters a day and only make 5 yuan for every 100 people who buy it. It’s better to hand out flyers on the street.”
“You want to hand out flyers?” Xingkong narrowed her eyes.
“Of course not.” Yao Yuan scrolled on her phone, showing Xingkong an article: Unless facing the risk of starvation, people should not waste time on things that don’t lead to improvement.
“Makes sense. What’s your final decision?”
“Don’t laugh at me. I want to try being a private tutor, and maybe I can start a training class later,” Yao Yuan cautiously raised her eyes.
“Ah~” “Huh?” A piece of chocolate was suddenly popped into her mouth, quickly melting on her tongue.
“I will support your every decision,” the Devil fondly rubbed her long hair.
“Xingkong, I’m sorry.”
“Hmm?”
“You wasted another day today,” Yao Yuan lowered her head, implying something.
“Come, look at me.” A hand suddenly encircled her waist, and the other supported her chin.
“I always look at you—” She suddenly couldn’t speak. No matter how many times she saw them, those eyes full of passion… could make her sink deep into them.
Their lips suddenly touched, and an incredible heat ignited on her tongue, scorching her waist and palm.
“Ugh…” Yao Yuan couldn’t control a soft moan. She could feel a burning yet gentle caress at her waist. The restraint was lifted; if she closed her eyes, she would surely fall into the abyss of ecstasy.
But in the last second before her will was depleted, she still didn’t see a single trace of pity in the Devil’s eyes. Yes, not even pity. Those captivating eyes… held only cold cruelty.
So, she blinked and blossomed into a sweet smile.
Yao Yuan pushed hard to break free, and with the Devil’s silent permission, she comfortably sprawled on top of her. “To thank you for saving me today, you can now make one easily achievable request of me~”
“No regrets?”
“It can’t violate morality, it can’t be difficult, it can’t hurt, and it can’t force me,” she dropped her smile.
“Dance. I want to watch you dance.” There was not a moment’s hesitation.
“As expected of a Devil, you still managed to find something I don’t want to do amidst such strict limitations!” Yao Yuan’s whole face crumpled like an orange.
The stars in Xingkong’s eyes indeed grew brighter and brighter: “Yes, it’s a promise.”
A makeup mirror suddenly blocked the front, and she turned her head to bump into the lipstick the Devil was offering, which swiftly drew a Nike swoosh logo on her face.
“Such a rare scene must be recorded seriously,” Xingkong shook the bottle in her hand and patted the glittering dressing table that had just appeared. “Sit here, I’ll do your makeup.”
Yao Yuan nodded like a pecking chick: her own makeup proficiency was probably only 5. At most, she could manage a bold red lip and a pale face. Professional matters should be left to a professional.
She happily sat down, closed her eyes, and felt the caress of the brush and fingers.
A moment later, Xingkong put down the brush. The light makeup was only relatively noticeable on the lips. The technique for the eyeliner and nose contour was excellent, instantly making her features more defined. Other areas perfectly concealed flaws, and the tiny freckles on her face were completely invisible.
Yao Yuan looked at herself in the mirror from side to side, nitpicking: “It’s a shame the recognition isn’t strong enough. If only it had some classical charm or an anime aesthetic~” She didn’t know what nonsense she was spewing, but she just had to annoy the Devil~
“Okay, I’ll try the classical charm and anime aesthetic.” Xingkong picked up the makeup tools again.
The Devil’s speed was, as expected, reliable. In just a moment, she patted Yao Yuan’s shoulder, indicating completion.
Opening her eyes, she saw the makeup mirror flash with a cold light, and a ghost face appeared within!
“Ah—” A tragic scream echoed through the rental house.
The face in the mirror was whiter than an A4 sheet of paper, looking exactly like a Word document come to life. Furthermore, both eyes were circled with black, making her look more like a national treasure than a panda.
If it were only black and white, she could just put on a black-sleeved white outfit and cosplay a panda, but her mouth was painted with an anime-style red triangle, which was truly heart-searing to look at and vomit-inducing to see.
“What kind of classical style is this? Is your aesthetic buried in panda tofu?!” Yao Yuan screamed as she ran to the bathroom, wanting to drown herself in makeup remover.
“Really? I think it’s very cute.” Xingkong patted the dressing table, which folded inward to become a pure white dress, fitting snugly over her arm.
This time, Yao Yuan didn’t dare to fool around anymore. After washing her face, she obediently let Xingkong apply light makeup, changed into the lightweight dress, and started warming up. What dance should she do? The last time she seriously danced was in her elementary school dance troupe.
“I’m ready.” Xingkong held a camera that looked very high-end.
“I know, don’t rush me~” Without musical accompaniment, Yao Yuan racked her brain for inspiration from her physical education exercises.
Both hands must swing, she deliberately moved her arms twice. Wait, her legs couldn’t remain still, but marching in place would be weird, right?
The information processed quickly in her brain, and her legs naturally began to alternate. It seemed quite smooth.
Should she turn around? Better not. So, she started repeating the sliding motion, sometimes like a killer whale swinging its tail, other times like a duck flapping its wings.
As she danced, it became more natural, and the swaying of her body grew smoother. What’s this, it seems I’m still quite good at dancing~
“Are you done filming?” She stopped after dancing for an unknown number of minutes, feeling a little tired.
“Filmed. Just a moment, I’ll see if I can turn it into a video.” Xingkong put down the camera and picked up her phone.
“Don’t you need a computer to edit videos? You haven’t even exported it, right?” Yao Yuan leaned forward curiously.
“I don’t need one. Okay, done.” Xingkong confidently pressed the play button. “The template is the most popular type of short video right now.”
The moment the button was pressed, the phone loudly sang: “This is your excuse for breaking up~ If you could start over~ would you…”
“Aahhhhh!” Yao Yuan’s face went numb.
“Surprise?” Xingkong’s expression was calm as an incredibly heartless scene appeared on the phone screen.
Yao Yuan’s frantic, wobbly movements were captured in close-up, dancing wildly. The confusion she was completely unaware of while dancing was now fully exposed.
The tacky background music was currently amplifying a magical effect, and the white-dressed girl swinging her arms left and right instantly multiplied into three!!
“Ah—why did you use a Shadow Clone Jutsu effect!” She clutched her head, weeping like a tough girl. “Take it away, don’t hurt my eyes!!”
“You don’t like it? I was actually thinking of posting it online,” the Devil made a regretful expression.
“You haven’t posted it yet? Please, please don’t… If you post it, I’m finished!” Yao Yuan’s legs went weak with fear. The lingering horror from her earlier experience today completely vanished. “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t do anything I don’t like?”
“Yes.” Xingkong suddenly cupped her hands. “That was just a joke. What I really wanted to say is…”
“Is what?”
The Devil gently embraced Yao Yuan and intimately whispered in her ear: “Sleep well tonight, and wake up early tomorrow to look for a job.”
