The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 6
That day, Murong Qing didn’t go to work, and the two of them stayed home to rest. Whatever Lin Yueshu did around the house, Murong Qing followed, almost even into the bathroom.
Lin Yueshu wasn’t used to Murong Qing acting like this. As she tidied the table, she glanced at Murong Qing standing nearby and asked, “Miss, is there something you need?”
Murong Qing grinned foolishly. “Nothing. I just like watching Yueshu work.”
Lin Yueshu stared at Murong Qing’s expression, at a loss for words. She wondered if Murong Qing had fallen ill during the year she’d been away—why did she suddenly seem like a child now? The old Murong Qing had been nothing like this, domineering and overbearing to the extreme.
Lin Yueshu knew that no matter what she said, Murong Qing wouldn’t leave. So, she simply gave up, letting Murong Qing follow her around if she wanted.
In the afternoon, after finishing her chores, she prepared to visit Su Fuyin to see if there were any good projects the company could take on.
Lin Yueshu put on her coat and went downstairs, saying to Murong Qing, who was sitting in the living room, “Miss, I have some business to attend to outside. I’ll be back tonight.”
The moment Murong Qing heard Lin Yueshu was going out, she immediately stood up. “I’ll come with you,” she said, then went to change her clothes.
Lin Yueshu was completely bewildered. She had no idea what Murong Qing was up to. She stepped forward and asked, “Miss, I’m going out to discuss business matters. It wouldn’t be appropriate for you to come along.” She thought that even someone as shameless as Murong Qing would understand the hint.
But Lin Yueshu hadn’t expected that Murong Qing’s face wasn’t just thick, it was utterly unmeasurable. Even her words had turned shameless.
“It’s fine. I’ll wait outside while you handle your business,” Murong Qing said, now fully determined to stick to Lin Yueshu. There was no way she’d let her go out alone.
Lin Yueshu was completely speechless. Ignoring Murong Qing, she turned and walked out. Murong Qing happily trotted after her. Lin Yueshu was starting to feel like she didn’t understand Murong Qing at all. Ever since she’d returned, Murong Qing had become a completely different person, leaving her at a loss.
When they arrived at Fengtian Media, Lin Yueshu headed straight for Su Fuyin’s office. She sat on the sofa, and Murong Qing took a seat beside her. Su Fuyin looked at the two of them, unsure what to say, and simply handed the documents to Lin Yueshu.
Lin Yueshu skimmed through the materials, then looked up at Su Fuyin. “Susu, I don’t think we should take this project. The risks are too high, and it might even be a trap. It looks well-planned at first glance, but upon closer analysis, it’s full of holes.”
Fengtian Media primarily worked in advertising, though it had other side ventures as well. It was the leading advertising firm in H City.
Su Fuyin took the documents and tossed them into the shredder. “If Shushu says we shouldn’t take it, then we won’t. But there’s a spot in an advertising design competition—I’d like you to represent the company.”
“A competition? You know I don’t like those. Are you up to something again?”
Lin Yueshu knew Su Fuyin all too well. Though she was Fengtian’s designer, she never appeared in public. Everyone knew of Fengtian’s lead designer, Sarah, but no one had ever seen her. Her works were always submitted by Fengtian for competitions, winning several trophies a year. Many companies had tried to poach her, but they could never find her.
“Hey, Shushu,” Su Fuyin leaned against the table, scratching her nose with her right hand. “If we win this award, we’ll get to collaborate with the British FS Group. It’s a great opportunity to take our company global, and I don’t want to miss it. I hope you can help me with this. Please?” She clasped her hands together in a pleading gesture.
Lin Yueshu knew it was a big opportunity, but she didn’t want to step into the public eye. All she wanted was to live an ordinary life with Lin Yushu. After a moment of thought, she said to Su Fuyin, “Susu, give me some time to think it over. I’ll give you an answer the day after tomorrow.”
Hearing that Lin Yueshu hadn’t outright refused, Su Fuyin knew there was hope. She immediately grinned, strode over, and hugged Lin Yueshu. “Shushu, I knew you’d help me! I’ll wait for your answer.” Then, glancing at Murong Qing nearby, she whispered in Lin Yueshu’s ear, “Why did you bring her along?”
Lin Yueshu sighed. “She insisted on following me. What could I do? I’m about to lose my mind.” If this continued, she wouldn’t be able to take it much longer.
Murong Qing watched as Su Fuyin hugged Lin Yueshu, feeling extremely displeased. She muttered to herself, How dare you hug my woman? You’ve got a death wish. Her eyes glared daggers at Su Fuyin.
Su Fuyin shivered under Murong Qing’s glare and quickly let go of Lin Yueshu. Such hostility! It’s just a hug, why so stingy? She was thoroughly annoyed with Murong Qing.
Su Fuyin remembered that Gu Fei had mentioned inviting Lin Yueshu and Lin Yushu over for dinner today. She turned to Lin Yueshu and said, “Shushu, our Feifei wants you and Yushu to come over for dinner tonight. Are you free?”
“Sure, I’ll call my sister right now,” Lin Yueshu replied, pulling out her phone and dialing.
The call connected. “Sis, we’re having dinner at Feifei’s place tonight. Are you free?” Her voice was gentle, and her face lit up with a radiant, happy smile.
Murong Qing watched, mesmerized. She had never seen this side of Lin Yueshu before. But that smile and happiness weren’t because of her.
Lin Yushu happily agreed. “Yeah, it’s been a while since I last visited. What time should we meet?”
“I’ll pick you up. Don’t worry, just focus on work for now. I’ll head over soon. Bye, sis.” With Murong Qing present, Lin Yueshu didn’t want to talk too much and hung up after a brief exchange.
Su Fuyin observed Murong Qing’s infatuated expression and sensed that Lin Yueshu was in for some serious trouble. Though she knew about the relationship between Lin Yueshu and Murong Qing, she also understood Lin Yueshu well. The only reason Lin Yueshu had agreed in the first place was to help Lin Yushu break free from the Lin family. There wasn’t a person alive who could truly make Lin Yueshu submit.
Lin Yueshu was going to Gu Fei’s place with Lin Yushu, and there was no way she’d bring Murong Qing along. She didn’t want Lin Yushu to find out about their relationship.
Lin Yueshu turned to Murong Qing. “Miss, you should head back first. I’m having dinner with friends tonight, and it wouldn’t be convenient to bring you. I’ll see you home.”
Murong Qing wasn’t happy with that. Why couldn’t she come along? It was just a meal. Crossing her arms and lifting one leg, she said irritably, “Why can’t I go? Wherever you go, I go. Or does President Su not welcome me?”
Su Fuyin had no idea the focus would shift to her. Glancing at Lin Yueshu and then Murong Qing, she felt utterly miserable inside. Steeling herself, she said, “How could that be, President Murong? I’m delighted you’ve graced my humble abode—how could I not welcome you? I have matters to attend to, so you two can chat.” With that, she quickly left the office, unwilling to suffer caught between these two people she couldn’t afford to offend.
After Su Fuyin left, Lin Yueshu looked at Murong Qing and asked, “Miss, what’s wrong? Ever since I returned, you’ve changed. Do you have any issues with me? If so, just say it outright. I’ll correct them.” Lin Yueshu disliked the current dynamic between them. She was never clingy except with Lin Yushu but Murong Qing’s behavior made her deeply uncomfortable.
Murong Qing crossed her arms, lowered her head, and spoke softly, “No, I have no issues. I’m just afraid you’ll disappear again.” Murong Qing was terrified. She couldn’t bear to lose Lin Yueshu again otherwise, she’d lose her mind completely.
Lin Yueshu froze at Murong Qing’s words, unsure how to react. It had never crossed her mind that Murong Qing would one day care about her. After a few seconds of silence, she said, “Miss, you’re overthinking it. I just went on a trip maybe for too long but it won’t happen again. You should go home and rest now. You didn’t sleep well yesterday, so let me take you back.”
Seeing that Lin Yueshu was still sending her away, Murong Qing didn’t know what else to do. She had already humbled herself so much—why was Lin Yueshu still pushing her out? Her usual domineering demeanor resurfaced. “I’ve made myself clear. I’m going with you, and I won’t take no for an answer.”
Lin Yueshu was startled by Murong Qing’s sudden shift. After a moment, she collected herself and thought bitterly, How could she possibly change? With a wry smile, she said, “It’s not that I don’t want you to come, Miss. I just don’t want my sister to know about our unusual relationship. I’m afraid she’d blame herself.”
Unusual relationship. The words stung Murong Qing. So, in Lin Yueshu’s mind, their bond had always been abnormal? She stood up angrily. “Unusual? What’s so unusual about it? We haven’t done anything immoral—why is it ‘unusual’?”
Lin Yueshu watched as Murong Qing grew agitated, baffled by her reaction. The Murong Qing she remembered had never cared about such things. This new behavior left her at a loss.
She softened her tone and stepped closer. “Miss, I’m sorry for upsetting you.” Pausing, she continued, “I know my place and wouldn’t dare overstep. You bought me. You’ll always be my mistress. That’s an unchangeable fact. My sister doesn’t know I was purchased by you, and I don’t want her to find out.”
Only then did Murong Qing realize their relationship had stemmed from a transaction or rather, that Lin Yueshu had used her to escape the Lin family. Sitting back down, Murong Qing exhaled deeply. “Back then, did you use me to leave the Lin family?” She already knew the answer but wanted to hear it from Lin Yueshu’s lips.
“Yes,” Lin Yueshu answered without hesitation.
“Why?” Murong Qing didn’t understand why she wanted to leave the Lin family. The Lin family was considered an affluent household in H City. She was giving up her life as a young lady and instead choosing this method to sever ties with the Lin family, it was quite puzzling.
Lin Yueshu walked to the window and gazed at the sky outside, smiling bitterly as she said, “I want to save my sister. I want her to see the world outside, to live a normal life. The Lin family can’t give her any of that. All they’ve given her is pain, nothing but pain.” In other families, children are treasured like precious gems, but in the Lin family, they’re just tools for profit.
Murong Qing hadn’t expected such an answer. It wasn’t that she hadn’t considered the place Lin Yushu held in Lin Yueshu’s heart. But now, it seemed clear. In Lin Yueshu’s heart, Lin Yushu was everything to her.
