The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 4
Mu Yun sat across from Murong Qing, speaking to her in a sarcastic tone, “President Murong, your visit truly brings honor to my humble company.” Hmph, you can set your sights on anyone else, but not Lin Yushu.
Murong Qing sensed something off in Mu Yun’s voice and wondered where she might have offended her. All she did was invite one of her employees for coffee—was that really worth such a reaction? Could it be that Mu Yun had feelings for Lin Yushu? The thought made the corner of her lips curl slightly.
“Mu Mu, do you have feelings for your employee? I thought you were against office romances. Changed your strategy?” Murong Qing clearly remembered someone once declaring that workplace relationships were unreliable, especially between superiors and subordinates. She had always despised such affairs.
Mu Yun snorted twice before replying, “No need to worry about me, President Murong. You should be more concerned about yourself. Lin Yueshu isn’t the soft, easy-to-bully woman she appears to be. She’s tougher than any woman you’ve ever met.”
At the mention of Lin Yueshu, Murong Qing’s brows furrowed slightly. “Do you know something?” If Mu Yun was saying this, it meant she had inside information about Lin Yueshu.
Mu Yun took a sip of the Blue Mountain coffee the waiter had just served and said slowly, “According to my investigation, she seems to be a designer at Fengtian Media, and all her assets are registered under Lin Yushu’s name. In other words, everything Lin Yueshu owns legally belongs to Lin Yushu.”
When Mu Yun first saw the investigation report, she was shocked. Lin Yueshu didn’t have a single penny in her own name. Everything was under Lin Yushu’s, who seemed completely unaware of it. This alone showed just how much Lin Yueshu valued Lin Yushu.
“I already knew that. I’ve done my own research.” Everything Mu Yun mentioned was information Murong Qing was already aware of.
Now, Mu Yun was absolutely certain that Murong Qing had fallen for Lin Yueshu. Recalling the incident in the parking lot, she smirked and said, “Murong, there’s one thing you don’t know. Your woman is capable of expressions other than a smile and that expression is truly terrifying. She even knows how to threaten people.”
“Oh? How do you know that?” Murong Qing pondered what could possibly make Lin Yueshu’s expression change aside from matters concerning Lin Yushu, there was likely nothing else. “Don’t tell me she threatened you, and that’s why you investigated her?”
With one glance at Murong Qing, Mu Yun could tell the woman was gloating. “I want to pursue Lin Yushu, and Lin Yueshu is currently my biggest obstacle. Don’t you think I should investigate her?” If Lin Yueshu didn’t give her approval, Mu Yun knew she’d never have a chance with Lin Yushu. That was just how deep the bond between the Lin sisters ran; it was almost frightening.
Hearing Mu Yun’s words, Murong Qing understood that Lin Yushu was Lin Yueshu’s greatest weakness untouchable. “I don’t care who you pursue, but I won’t stand for you doing anything to hurt her.” Lin Yueshu was now the woman Murong Qing loved, and she wouldn’t tolerate even the slightest harm coming to her.
“Oh… Murong, are you confessing your love now? As for hurting her, I’m afraid you’ve done plenty of that.” Mu Yun thought back to the bruises she’d seen on Lin Yueshu before, it was truly horrifying. Sometimes, she felt Murong Qing was just insane. “I wouldn’t dare do such things, or else Lin Yushu would hate me for the rest of my life. Besides, Lin Yueshu isn’t as easy to handle as you might think. If she really snaps, it wouldn’t just be some superficial injuries. I don’t want to become her prey.”
Murong Qing’s heart ached at Mu Yun’s words. She couldn’t understand why Lin Yueshu never fought back. No matter how much she hurt her, Lin Yueshu wouldn’t even let out a groan.
At first, Murong Qing thought she wasn’t being harsh enough, so she escalated the violence until Lin Yueshu couldn’t leave her bed for a week. Back then, Murong Qing knew Lin Yueshu had an incredible tolerance for pain. Her seemingly timid personality was, in reality, sheer stubbornness.
Later, Murong Qing never held back when she lashed out. The more Lin Yueshu endured, the more it fueled her desire to push further. She wanted to see just how much Lin Yueshu could take.
Over half a year passed, and Murong Qing never saw any expression on Lin Yueshu’s face other than a smile. Eventually, Murong Qing lost all interest in the game. She found Lin Yueshu utterly dull. Even during intimacy, Lin Yueshu was like a lifeless doll no matter how Murong Qing touched or moved her, she remained unresponsive.
Murong Qing began ignoring Lin Yueshu, frequently bringing other women home. What used to be an occasional occurrence became a near-daily routine whenever she was around.
Lin Yueshu never interfered or questioned what they did. If she encountered them, she’d simply avoid them, sometimes waiting outside until late at night before entering.
Murong Qing had once adored Lin Yueshu’s obedient demeanor—how she turned a blind eye and deaf ear to everything. But now, looking back, it felt bitterly ironic.
Lin Yueshu acted that way only because she had never cared about Murong Qing in the first place. Her compliance was likely just her fulfilling an obligation. If Murong Qing had told her to leave, Lin Yueshu probably wouldn’t have spared her a single glance.
Murong Qing took the last sip of her Blue Mountain coffee and said, “Mumu, don’t you dare hurt Lin Yushu, or both our lives might be ruined.” If Lin Yushu got hurt, Lin Yueshu would probably come after them with a knife. “Are you free tonight? Let’s grab a drink with Lele.”
Mu Yun raised her hand. “Murong, I’m not going back to that kind of life. I have plans to have dinner with Yushu tonight. And Lele’s been chasing after some girl lately. He’s over the moon and probably won’t have time for you either. But if you don’t change your ways, you’ll never have a chance with Lin Yueshu in this lifetime. I’ve got things to do, so I’ll head out first. Think about what you should do.” With that, Mu Yun stood up and left for the office.
Left alone, Murong Qing sat there for another half hour before settling the bill and returning to work.
It had been a month since Lin Yueshu left, and Murong Qing hadn’t heard a single thing about her. The only thing she knew was that Lin Yushu received packages and letters from Lin Yueshu every few days.
Murong Qing stayed late at the office that night, startling her secretary and assistant. Their CEO used to leave the moment work ended. This sudden dedication to overtime left them struggling to keep up.
Murong Qing didn’t dare return to the home that no longer had Lin Yueshu in it. Every time she went back, the emptiness and desolation overwhelmed her. The place was filled with Lin Yueshu’s presence, yet she couldn’t grasp a single trace of her.
She stopped going to bars and ceased seeking out other women. Suddenly, she realized none of them could ever compare to Lin Yueshu. In Murong Qing’s heart, Lin Yueshu was now an angel, while those other women were nothing but trash utterly incomparable.
Murong Qing had also sent people to investigate Lin Yueshu’s whereabouts, but she never obtained any useful information. One moment, she was in Yunnan, the next in Hangzhou, and then suddenly in Bangkok. Murong Qing was always one step behind.
Another month passed before she received news that Lin Yueshu had taken a flight from London to Vienna at nine that morning.
For the first time in two months, Murong Qing felt she had finally obtained the most reliable and useful lead on Lin Yueshu. She immediately booked a flight to Vienna.
But at eleven o’clock, she received a phone call that turned her face deathly pale. Her phone slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor. It was news about the London-to-Vienna flight that had departed at nine—there had been an accident.
This time, Murong Qing completely broke down. She collapsed into her office chair, head tilted back, arms hanging limply at her sides. Tears streamed from the corners of her eyes like a breached dam, unstoppable and unending.
Murong Qing didn’t know what to do now. She had waited so long, only to be met with this outcome. How could she possibly accept it?
She remained seated in her chair, unmoving, until evening—no food, no water, no unnecessary actions. She simply sat there, frozen. Her secretary didn’t dare step into the office all afternoon.
That night, Mu Yun tried calling her repeatedly, but the calls wouldn’t go through. Qian Lele had the same problem. Worried, the two of them rushed to Murong Qing’s home in a panic. They rang the doorbell for a long time, but no one answered. When they asked the security guard, he told them Murong Qing hadn’t returned.
They then went to her company and saw lights still on in the thirtieth-floor office. Hurrying upstairs, they entered to find Murong Qing in such a state that they were momentarily speechless.
Qian Lele approached her and called out, “Murong, what’s wrong? Have you been crying?”
The moment Murong Qing saw Qian Lele, she sat up and wrapped her arms around her waist, bursting into loud, unrestrained sobs.
The two women exchanged helpless glances. They had never seen Murong Qing so utterly lost before not even when her mother had passed away.
Mu Yun stepped closer and asked, “Murong, what happened?”
Tear-stained and trembling, Murong Qing lifted her face to look at Mu Yun and whispered, “Mu Mu… Yueshu’s plane crashed.”
“What? How do you know?” Mu Yun had only just managed to win Lin Yushu’s heart. She couldn’t bear the thought of her falling ill over this news especially since Lin Yushu had undergone surgery less than a year ago. How could she possibly handle such devastating news?
“The people I sent to investigate reported it this morning. The news might already be online by now.” Murong Qing released Qian Lele and quickly turned on her computer.
The three of them stared at the screen, reading the breaking news: The flight from London to Vienna, which had departed at nine that morning, had crashed. All 212 passengers and crew members on board had perished.
None of them knew how to react. The news was nothing short of another devastating blow to Murong Qing. No survivors, this meant she had lost even the faintest glimmer of hope.
Mu Yun stared wide-eyed at the computer screen, her gaze fixed intently. Suddenly, she thought of Lin Yushu. She grabbed her phone and dialed Lin Yushu’s number.
The call connected, and Mu Yun spoke urgently, “Yushu, are you asleep yet?”
Lin Yushu answered when she saw it was Mu Yun calling. “Not yet, I just finished showering and was about to sleep. Is something wrong?” Hearing the odd tone in Mu Yun’s voice, she asked.
Hearing that Lin Yushu sounded completely normal, Mu Yun realized she hadn’t received the news yet. She relaxed her tone and said, “No, nothing’s wrong. I just wanted to ask where Yue Shu went traveling this time.” Mu Yun felt this was crucial. She needed to confirm whether Lin Yueshu had taken that flight.
Lin Yushu found it strange that Mu Yun suddenly brought up Lin Yueshu but answered honestly. “Yue’er called me this morning and said she was taking the 9 a.m. flight from London to Vienna. But she hasn’t called yet to let me know if she’s arrived, so I don’t know.”
Lin Yueshu always called Lin Yushu whenever she arrived at a new destination. This time, though, she hadn’t, which did worry Lin Yushu a little. Earlier, Lin Yueshu had mentioned she was going to Vienna to buy sheet music for Lin Yushu and to see what the City of Music looked like, promising to take her along next time.
Mu Yun confirmed that Lin Yueshu had indeed taken that flight, and now she felt a wave of unease. Forcing a laugh, she said to Lin Yushu, “Yushu, go to sleep soon. You have work tomorrow. I won’t keep you, goodnight.” With that, she hung up.
On the other end, Lin Yushu wanted to say something more, but all she heard was the dial tone.
