The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 3
On the day Lin Yueshu went on her trip, she didn’t let Murong Qing see her off. Instead, Lin Yushu, Gu Fei, and Su Fuyin accompanied her to the airport.
Before leaving, she asked Gu Fei and Su Fuyin to take good care of Lin Yushu. She rambled on and on, most of it about Lin Yushu. In the end, Su Fuyin practically shooed her away. Su Fuyin knew that when it came to Lin Yushu, Lin Yueshu turned into a nagging old woman.
The three of them only drove back after watching Lin Yueshu’s plane take off.
Meanwhile, Murong Qing sat in her office, unable to focus on a single page of the documents in front of her. That morning, she had offered to drive Lin Yueshu to the airport, but Lin Yueshu had refused.
Watching Lin Yueshu walk away, Murong Qing felt as though that person was drifting further and further from her; she hated that feeling.
That evening, she invited Qian Lele and Mu Yun to a bar for drinks. In the private booth, she clung to a seductive woman, downing glass after glass.
Mu Yun found Murong Qing’s behavior odd and asked, “Murong, are you in a bad mood? Why isn’t your Yueshu with you tonight?”
Murong Qing took a sip of her drink and replied, “She’s traveling.”
A faint, mischievous smile curled at Mu Yun’s lips.
Qian Lele, seeing Mu Yun’s expression, knew this woman was scheming again. “Mu Mu, who are you plotting against now? You’ve got that conniving look on your face.”
Mu Yun touched her cheek. “Do I? I just think our Murong here might have actually fallen for her Yueshu.” She glanced at Murong Qing’s sullen expression and knew it was because of Lin Yueshu.
Qian Lele stared at Mu Yun in shock, then turned to Murong Qing. “No way. Murong likes women? With her personality, it’s a miracle she doesn’t torment them to death, let alone fall for one. The sun must be rising from the west.”
Murong Qing enjoyed toying with women, but she never fell for them; that had been a fact they’d all known since childhood. When she was young, her father had been seduced by a beautiful woman, which eventually drove her mother to suicide. That trauma had left Murong Qing with a deep-seated hatred for women, especially beautiful ones. She would mercilessly torment them until they couldn’t take it anymore and left.
Mu Yun swirled her glass, a wicked grin playing on her lips. “Life always has its exceptions. Murong’s fallen hard this time, and with a woman who won’t be easy to handle.” To Mu Yun, Lin Yushu was her own exception. She didn’t usually like delicate women, yet she had been smitten with Lin Yushu at first sight.
Qian Lele watched as Murong Qing clung to the seductive woman, engaging in all sorts of suggestive gestures. She couldn’t believe Murong Qing was capable of genuine affection especially not for someone as seemingly soft and easy to bully as Lin Yueshu. “Are you sure? Does Murong even look like someone who’d fall for anyone?”
Mu Yun just smiled without answering. Unlike Murong Qing, Qian Lele and Mu Yun never flirted with other women at bars. They only came to drink, nothing more. They didn’t play with emotions either, believing that love should be mutual. Murong Qing, however, had never cared; she only played with women, never men.
Three women: one a demon, one a fiend, and the last a harmless little devil.
That evening, Murong Qing brought the woman home, but no matter what she did, the image of Lin Yueshu kept surfacing in her mind. Frustrated and in no mood to be intimate, she ended up kicking the woman out of her house.
Murong Qing didn’t understand what was happening to her. She felt that Lin Yueshu was increasingly able to influence her emotions. Pouring herself a glass of Lafite in the living room, she drank as if trying to drown her thoughts only by getting drunk could she stop thinking about Lin Yueshu.
When she woke up at noon the next day, her head was pounding. She called out loudly, “Yueshu, bring me some hangover soup!” After waiting for a long time with no response, she suddenly remembered Lin Yueshu had gone traveling.
Groggy, she stumbled out of bed and went to the living room to pour herself a glass of cold water, hoping to clear her mind. Sitting on the sofa, she looked around the room. The entire house now felt eerily silent, devoid of any human presence.
Before, she would always see Lin Yueshu bustling about. If she drank too much, Lin Yueshu would make her hangover soup. If she was tired, Lin Yueshu would give her a massage. If she was hungry, Lin Yueshu would cook for her. If she was sleepy, Lin Yueshu would tuck her in. There were so many things she couldn’t even remember now.
As Murong Qing thought about everything Lin Yueshu had done for her, it was as if her entire life had been filled with Lin Yueshu’s shadow, one she couldn’t shake off.
She got up and went upstairs, opening the door to Lin Yueshu’s room. It was neatly arranged but sparsely furnished just a double bed, a vanity, and two wardrobes, nothing more.
The vanity was completely bare. Murong Qing walked over and opened the drawer beneath it. Inside lay a single fashion magazine and nothing else.
Suddenly struck by a thought, she turned and opened the wardrobe. It was nearly empty, save for a few packaging boxes piled in the corner and a cardboard box.
Murong Qing opened the packaging boxes, and the clothes and shoes she had bought for Lin Yueshu tumbled out. All with their tags still attached, pristine and untouched.
She then opened the cardboard box. Inside were all the jewelry she had given Lin Yueshu, along with a bank card and a check, the ones she had handed over that night.
One by one, she opened each jewelry box. The pieces lay inside, undisturbed, some even still wrapped in protective film.
Murong Qing was utterly stunned. She slumped to the floor, unsure of what to do next. Scrambling to her feet, she rushed downstairs to her own room, grabbed her phone, and dialed Lin Yueshu’s number. But the line remained dead, her phone was still turned off.
For the first time, Murong Qing felt utterly helpless. She had never imagined Lin Yueshu would just disappear. Sitting on the floor, she hugged her knees, trying to find some warmth within herself but there was none to be found.
Murong Qing had always believed Lin Yueshu would never leave her side, that Lin Yueshu was hers to keep. Only now did she realize just how deep her feelings for Lin Yueshu had grown. Reflecting on how she had treated her, she suddenly saw how absurd her past actions had been.
She called the Lin family, only to be told that Lin Yueshu had cut ties with them a year ago. This revelation left Murong Qing completely at a loss. Lin Yueshu had been estranged from her family for a whole year, and she hadn’t even known.
Murong Qing now realized she didn’t understand Lin Yueshu at all. She wondered where Lin Yueshu got her money from, since she didn’t go out to work and never spent Murong Qing’s money.
She knew Lin Yueshu had an older sister, so it seemed the only lead was to start with her. She made a call and arranged for someone to investigate Lin Yueshu’s activities over the past year, as well as her sister, Lin Yushu.
Murong Qing was the kind of person who knew exactly what she wanted and would strive to get it. But Lin Yueshu wasn’t like that. Lin Yueshu always put Lin Yushu first. She wouldn’t waste any extra emotions on anything else. She pursued only two things: earning more money and giving Lin Yushu the best life possible. Beyond that, nothing else mattered to her.
Two days later, Murong Qing sat in her office, reviewing the documents someone had just delivered regarding the investigation into Lin Yueshu. She opened the file, took out the materials, and flipped through them page by page. As she read, her eyes widened in disbelief. She never imagined Lin Yueshu had spent so much money in the past year over eight million in total.
Back then, when she had asked Lin Yueshu why she never spent her money, Lin Yueshu had simply said there was nothing she wanted to buy. But Murong Qing never expected Lin Yueshu to be so capable and that all the money had been spent on Lin Yushu. Medical treatments, buying a house, a car, clothes.
Throughout the entire year, Murong Qing had never once seen Lin Yueshu buy anything for herself. Yet she was willing to splurge so much on Lin Yushu. Now, Murong Qing found herself even more confused about Lin Yueshu. She didn’t know what kind of person she was anymore, and now she couldn’t even find her. Lin Yueshu had said she was going on a trip but hadn’t told her where. Murong Qing decided to talk to Lin Yushu instead.
That afternoon, she went to Tianyu Entertainment to find Lin Yushu, who was visibly surprised. Lin Yushu didn’t know the CEO of Qingyang personally. She had only heard of her, and the reviews weren’t exactly favorable.
The two sat in a nearby café. Lin Yushu studied Murong Qing, unsure why she had sought her out. They had no prior interactions.
Lin Yushu cupped her coffee mug with both hands, rubbing it absentmindedly. Finally, she looked up and asked, “May I ask why CEO Murong is looking for me?”
Murong Qing wasn’t one for beating around the bush. She took a sip of her Blue Mountain coffee and said, “I want to know where Lin Yueshu is.”
Lin Yushu’s brows furrowed slightly at the mention of her sister. “May I ask why CEO Murong is looking for my sister? Or has she done something to offend you?” She knew Lin Yueshu well. She wasn’t the type to cause trouble recklessly.
Hearing the sudden shift in Lin Yushu’s tone, Murong Qing thought, These sisters really are close. “No, I just want to know where she is right now. I can’t reach her by phone. I need to talk to her please help me.”
Lin Yushu didn’t understand why Murong Qing was so insistent on finding Lin Yueshu, but she didn’t know her sister’s current whereabouts either. “I’m sorry, CEO Murong, but my sister lost her phone. Yesterday, she called and said she’s hiking in Yunnan.”
Hiking in Yunnan? Yunnan had been experiencing heavy rains lately, and there had already been mudslide incidents. Was Lin Yueshu trying to get herself killed? “Can you give me her contact information?”
“I’m sorry, President Murong, but I don’t have Yue Shu’s contact information. She called me using a public phone at the time.” Lin Yushu also wished she had Lin Yueshu’s contact details, but she simply didn’t. Yueshu would only say she’d call every evening.
“Mm, it’s alright. But if she calls you, please let her know I’m looking for her.” Murong Qing was relieved to hear that Lin Yueshu was safe.
Lin Yushu checked her watch and saw that her leave time was almost up. She turned to Murong Qing and said, “I’ll pass the message to my sister. I’ve been out for a while now, so I should head back. We can catch up another time.” Just as she turned around, she saw Mu Yun walking toward them.
“Alright then, go ahead if you have things to do.” Murong Qing noticed the displeased expression on Mu Yun’s face as if someone had stolen something from her.
After exchanging a few words with Mu Yun, Lin Yushu left.
Mu Yun had rushed out as soon as she heard Murong Qing had called Lin Yushu outside. She knew all too well how skilled Murong Qing was at handling women. She was afraid Yushu might fall for her tricks.
