The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 2
After a week, Lin Yueshu’s new home was all set up. She hired a moving company to bring her belongings from Lin Yushu’s place. Looking around at everything in the house, Lin Yueshu was overjoyed. This was her and Lin Yushu’s home—a home that belonged to just the two of them.
At half past five in the afternoon, Lin Yueshu drove her new car to pick up Lin Yushu from her company. Arriving early, she checked her phone and saw that it wasn’t yet time to clock out, so she waited in the car for a while.
At six o’clock, Lin Yueshu kept her eyes fixed on the entrance of Tianyu Entertainment, hoping to catch the first glimpse of Lin Yushu. However, when Lin Yushu finally walked out, she wasn’t alone. There was someone beside her, someone Lin Yueshu recognized: Mu Yun, the CEO of Tianyu.
Seeing the two about to get into a car, Lin Yueshu quickly stepped out and ran up to Lin Yushu. “Sis, where are you going? I came to pick you up from work,” she said, her gaze locked firmly on Mu Yun.
Mu Yun was taken aback—wasn’t this Lin Yueshu, Murong Qing’s woman? She called Lin Yushu “sis,” meaning they were sisters. What a small world, she mused. And the hostility radiating from Lin Yueshu was unmistakable.
Lin Yushu was surprised. She hadn’t expected Lin Yueshu to come for her. “Yue’er, what are you doing here?”
“I came to give you a gift! I told you a week ago, I bought you a car. It’s right there. Do you like it?” Lin Yueshu pointed excitedly at the white Mercedes she had purchased, beaming like a child showing off a treasure.
Mu Yun was stunned by Lin Yueshu’s childlike demeanor. The Lin Yueshu she knew was nothing like this. The Lin Yueshu she knew always stayed quietly by Murong Qing’s side, never speaking up even when Murong Qing flirted with other women, always wearing that faint, unchanging smile.
Mu Yun had always thought Lin Yueshu was a gentle, somewhat timid woman. But today, she suddenly realized how shallow her understanding had been. She had never truly known the real Lin Yueshu.
Looking at Lin Yueshu now, Mu Yun thought of Murong Qing. She wondered if Murong Qing truly understood the woman by her side. What expression would Murong Qing wear if she saw Lin Yueshu like this? The thought amused Mu Yun. Murong Qing had always bullied her in the past perhaps it was time to return the favor tenfold.
Lin Yushu was deeply moved by the expensive car Lin Yueshu had bought for her, but she couldn’t bear the thought of her spending so much money. She worried about her sister’s hardships.
“Why did you buy such an expensive car? Something for tens of thousands would’ve been fine. You should save more for yourself. You’ve already spent so much on me,” Lin Yushu said, her heart aching. She didn’t want Lin Yueshu to struggle. She just wanted her to be as happy as she used to be.
Lin Yueshu took Lin Yushu’s hand and said, “I want to give you the best. And I am saving money. When you get married, I’ll prepare so many gifts for you. I can’t do that without money.”
Seeing Lin Yueshu’s childlike smile, Lin Yushu felt a deep sense of contentment. Then she suddenly remembered the CEO was still standing beside her. Turning to Mu Yun, she bowed slightly. “I’m sorry, CEO. That was rude of me earlier. This is my younger sister, Lin Yueshu.”
Mu Yun extended her hand to Lin Yueshu. “Hello, I’m Mu Yun, your sister’s boss.”
Lin Yueshu also reached out and held Mu Yun’s hand politely, saying, “Lin Yueshu. My sister has been under your care.” In her heart, she added fiercely: Who knows if you’re just using your position as her boss to make a move on my sister.
Seeing Lin Yueshu had come to pick her up, Lin Yushu turned to Mu Yun and said, “Director Mu, since Yue’er is here, there’s no need for you to see me off. Thank you for your kindness. We’ll be leaving now. Goodbye, Director Mu.” With that, she took Lin Yueshu’s hand and walked away.
Before leaving, Lin Yueshu leaned close to Mu Yun’s ear and whispered, “Stay away from my sister from now on. If you dare to lay a finger on her, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Mu Yun merely smiled at the remark without responding. Watching the retreating figures of the two sisters, she thought to herself that perhaps she ought to investigate them thoroughly.
Lin Yueshu escorted Lin Yushu home, where they had dinner together and chatted. By nearly eleven, Lin Yushu had fallen asleep, and Lin Yueshu returned alone to her own residence.
The moment she opened the door, she saw Murong Qing intimately entangled with another woman. Too embarrassed to interrupt, she retreated outside and sat by the door until almost one in the morning before finally entering.
Lin Yueshu had witnessed scenes like this countless times, yet she still couldn’t get used to it. The next day, she came down with a cold. Her health had been poor all year due to exhaustion.
In the morning, Lin Yueshu prepared breakfast for Murong Qing before heading out. She had one final project to complete her last task before going on a trip.
When Murong Qing woke up, it was already past ten. The woman she had been with had been sent away early. Noticing the now-cold food on the table, she went to Lin Yueshu’s room to ask her to reheat it, only to find it empty. She called Lin Yueshu, who explained she had something to attend to and wouldn’t be back until evening, suggesting Murong Qing heat the food herself.
Murong Qing believed Lin Yueshu genuinely had business to handle such occurrences were rare. Lin Yueshu always kept the house immaculate, cooked well, never argued, and never made demands. She was quiet, never jealous, and never caused any trouble.
Whenever Murong Qing returned home, Lin Yueshu would be bustling about, tending to things without being intrusive. If something displeased Murong Qing, Lin Yueshu would simply remove it. She never disturbed her, no matter how she was treated, and always wore a faint smile. Murong Qing had never seen any other expression on Lin Yueshu’s face, leading her to believe Lin Yueshu was gentle, serene, and somewhat timid.
That evening, Murong Qing waited for Lin Yueshu to return. But by midnight, there was still no sign of her. She called to ask why, and Lin Yueshu replied she wouldn’t be back until two.
This time, Murong Qing was furious. She felt she had been too lenient with Lin Yueshu, allowing her the audacity to return so late. She decided it was time to teach Lin Yueshu a lesson to remind her who the master of the house was.
At two in the morning, Lin Yueshu dragged her exhausted body home, her head pounding. She could have returned by midnight, but the journey had been unbearable. She couldn’t even drive and had to sit by the roadside for over an hour, letting the cold wind clear her mind before finally making it back.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw the living room lights were on. Murong Qing sat on the sofa, glaring at her fiercely. At that moment, Lin Yueshu knew she had angered Murong Qing. She offered no explanation. That night, Murong Qing taught her a harsh lesson in bed.
By the time Murong Qing stopped and fell asleep, Lin Yueshu lay there with hollow eyes fixed on the pitch-black ceiling, wondering when this kind of life would ever end.
Weakly, she crawled out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up. Staring at the bruises covering her body in the mirror, she knew they would take about half a month to fade. It wasn’t the first time she could gauge the severity and predict the outcome.
After her shower, Lin Yueshu took some cold medicine and slept in her own room.
The next morning, she prepared breakfast for Murong Qing, who had to go to the office and woke up early.
As they ate, Murong Qing said sternly, “From now on, you’re not allowed to come home late without my permission. Be back by eight in the evening.” Her tone was unyielding.
“Yes, Miss,” Lin Yueshu replied softly.
She always addressed Murong Qing as “Miss.” In her mind, someone who had been bought had no right to call their master by name. It was also a way to constantly remind herself of her place—what she should and shouldn’t do. Lin Yueshu was stubborn and contradictory like that.
Murong Qing looked up at her. Lin Yueshu’s expression remained unchanged, but when Murong Qing noticed the bruises on her neck, she realized she might have gone too far the night before. “Rest at home these next few days,” she said.
“Mm. I’d like to ask for a few months off. I plan to travel next month.” Lin Yueshu’s tone was as unhurried as ever.
Murong Qing was taken aback—traveling, and for several months at that. It was the first time in a year Lin Yueshu had made such a request. Frowning, Murong Qing asked, “Why the sudden urge to travel?”
Lin Yueshu had expected the question. Smiling, she replied, “I just want to go out and see the world.”
Murong Qing figured it was just a way to clear her mind and saw no harm in it, so she agreed. Little did she know, Lin Yueshu’s departure would completely alter both their lives.
In the days that followed, Lin Yueshu busied herself with travel preparations and moving some of her clothes to Lin Yushu’s place.
At Murong Qing’s, she left only the everyday outfits barely enough to fill a single wardrobe. Packing for the trip left it nearly empty.
Before leaving, Murong Qing hired a kind, middle-aged woman in her forties as a housekeeper for Lin Yushu. She also bought Lin Yushu a year’s worth of clothes and shoes, afraid she’d be too frugal to spend on herself.
When the purchases arrived, Lin Yushu scolded her for wasting money. Lin Yueshu only smiled; every time she bought Lin Yushu clothes, it turned into a lecture.
On the night before Lin Yueshu’s departure, Murong Qing didn’t go out to fool around with other women, which surprised her. For a moment, she almost believed the tides were turning.
After dinner, the two sat in the living room watching TV. Murong Qing asked, “Do you have enough money? Here’s a check, use it when you need to.” She picked it up from the table and handed it to Lin Yueshu.
Lin Yueshu took the check and simply said, “Thank you.” Nothing more. She never refused anything Murong Qing gave her, because rejecting it would only make Murong Qing angrier. She accepted, but she never used any of it.
Murong Qing suddenly realized how little Lin Yueshu spoke. Throughout the entire day they spent together, the words she uttered could be counted on one hand. She had never heard Lin Yueshu say anything lengthy, her words were always brief, usually just a few syllables.
Murong Qing quietly studied Lin Yueshu’s face but saw no expression other than that faint smile.
Now, she suddenly felt that Lin Yueshu was becoming more and more indistinct, harder and harder to understand.
