The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 13
At noon, when Gu Fei came out after her surgery, she saw Lin Yushu crouching by the door of the ward. It was strange to see her at the hospital, and her expression suggested something major had happened. In this world, the only person who could make Lin Yushu look like that was Lin Yueshu; Gu Fei couldn’t think of anyone else.
Gu Fei walked over and crouched down to look at Lin Yushu. “Yushu, why are you at the hospital? Did something happen to Yueshu?” Her voice was full of concern, as if she were speaking to family.
Lin Yushu looked up at Gu Fei, and all the unease and grief in her heart poured out at once. She clung to Gu Fei and sobbed loudly, “Fei’er, Yue’er is sick really sick. What should I do? Yue’er is all I have left.” Every word she spoke was heartbreaking. Gu Fei knew just how deep the bond between her and Lin Yueshu was.
“Yushu, Yueshu will be fine. Let me go ask the attending doctor, okay? If you collapse, Yueshu will lose her mind. You’ve just recovered. You can’t take any more stress, understand?” Gu Fei held Lin Yushu’s head, trying to offer some comfort. Lin Yushu was everything to Lin Yueshu, and the same was true in reverse.
Mu Yun watched as Lin Yushu chose to confide in Gu Fei rather than her, and it left a bitter taste in her mouth. She was supposed to be Lin Yushu’s girlfriend, yet she wasn’t the one being leaned on. The imbalance gnawed at Mu Yun. Leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, her expression darkened.
After offering Lin Yushu more words of comfort, Gu Fei went to inquire about Lin Yueshu’s condition and also called Su Fuyin.
Half an hour later, Su Fuyin rushed straight to the hospital and found Gu Fei. When Gu Fei explained Lin Yueshu’s situation, Su Fuyin’s temper flared. But neither of them could bring themselves to tell Lin Yushu the truth whether Lin Yueshu had been abused to this point or if it was something else. Whatever the case, the most important thing was that Lin Yueshu’s condition had stabilized.
When the two arrived at the ward’s entrance, they happened to see Murong Qing there as well. Su Fuyin could no longer hold back. She charged forward, grabbed Murong Qing by the collar, and punched her several times, all while shouting, “You scum! Is this how you treat Shushu? And yet she told me you treated her well. Really well, huh? So, well that she ended up in the hospital from abuse!” The angrier Su Fuyin got, the harder she hit. Murong Qing’s face was already bruised in several places, and blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
No matter how Su Fuyin hit her, Murong Qing stood there without fighting back, letting the blows land. She hoped the pain might ease the guilt in her heart.
Gu Fei and Mu Yun saw that Murong Qing had been beaten black and blue, but their attempts to intervene were futile. Gu Fei finally lost her temper when she noticed Lin Yushu’s shocked expression. One hand covering her mouth, the other braced against the wall, disbelief written all over her face.
“Su Fuyin, that’s enough! Are you trying to kill her?” Gu Fei yanked Su Fuyin away and pulled her aside, forcing her to look at Lin Yushu.
Su Fuyin turned and saw Lin Yushu, realizing what she had just done. In her rage, she had blurted out everything. She hurried over to support Lin Yushu, saying anxiously, “Yushu, I was just speaking out of anger don’t take it to heart. Shushu is fine now.” Then she smacked herself hard on the head in frustration.
Murong Qing was pulled aside by Mu Yun, who gently wiped the blood from the corner of her lips. At a loss for words, Mu Yun knew that Murong Qing was suffering more than any of them, drowning in self-blame. Murong Qing had willingly accepted the beating. The pain somehow made her feel slightly better. Under normal circumstances, anyone who dared lay a hand on her would have faced retaliation twice as harsh.
Lin Yushu understood that what she needed now was strength. Otherwise, when Lin Yueshu woke up, she would blame herself and be heartbroken. Shedding her earlier fragility, Lin Yushu straightened up and walked over to the others. “You should all go back. I’ll take care of Yue’er here,” she said, her expression so composed that the vulnerability from moments ago had vanished without a trace, as if it had never been there at all.
“Fei’er and I will stay. President Murong, you can leave. This place isn’t big enough for someone as important as you,” Su Fuyin remarked with a mocking tone, her disdain for Murong Qing evident. She and Lin Yueshu had been inseparable since kindergarten, as close as sisters. Seeing Murong Qing treat Lin Yueshu so poorly was unbearable for her.
“You—Su Fuyin, don’t push it. I’ve already tolerated enough from you,” Murong Qing hissed through gritted teeth. Su Fuyin’s attitude was more than she could stand. She wanted to stay by Lin Yueshu’s side; leaving was the last thing she wanted.
Watching the two of them argue, Lin Yushu felt an overwhelming frustration. She walked to the hospital room door and said, “President Murong and President Mu, you should go back. You must be tired. Fei’er, Su Su, and I are enough here.” With that, she stepped inside, not bothering to see how the others reacted. Lin Yushu still couldn’t face Murong Qing, the person who had hurt Lin Yueshu so deeply.
“I… I…” Murong Qing stammered, wanting to go in and see Lin Yueshu, but Mu Yun held her back.
“If you go in now, you’ll only upset Yushu. Let’s go back for now. Dr. Gu is here you don’t need to worry,” Mu Yun said gently, understanding Lin Yushu’s behavior perfectly. She knew Lin Yushu was putting on a brave face and didn’t want to provoke her further, lest she unleash even greater anger. Though Lin Yushu was usually even-tempered, when she truly lost her temper, she could be even more terrifying than Lin Yueshu.
As Su Fuyin pulled Gu Fei into the room, she couldn’t resist turning back to glare at the fuming Murong Qing. “We won’t see you out, President Murong. Take care of yourself,” she said before shutting the door in Murong Qing’s face.
Murong Qing slumped into a chair, hunched over with her face buried in her hands. She wanted to cry to release all the frustration and helplessness inside her. But she felt she had no right to do so. Lin Yueshu was lying there, too weak to even vent her own emotions. How could Murong Qing indulge in such selfishness?
Sitting by the hospital bed, Lin Yushu gazed at Lin Yueshu and suddenly realized how much thinner she had become. How long had it been since she had truly looked at her Yue’er? She had been so consumed by work that she had neglected her. The thought burned her heart like fire, the pain so intense she could barely breathe. Turning to Gu Fei, she asked softly, her voice tinged with sorrow, “Fei’er, when will Yue’er wake up? There’s no sign of her stirring at all.” Lin Yushu watched Lin Yueshu’s peaceful slumber, seeing no indication that she would awaken anytime soon.
Gu Fei walked over and placed her hands-on Lin Yushu’s shoulders, speaking slowly, “I asked Dr. Li, and he said it might take two or three days.” Two or three days to wake up—Gu Fei, as a doctor, knew exactly how weak Lin Yueshu was right now. In the past, Lin Yueshu had fainted from overworking to earn money and didn’t wake up until two days later. Back then, Su Fuyin had been terrified. But this time, she was even weaker. It would take at least three days.
“Two or three days? How could it be that long? Last time, she woke up after just two days.” Su Fuyin immediately realized what she had said and covered her mouth, turning away without another word. She hated herself for her careless words today—why did she keep making mistakes? She really wanted to slap herself twice.
Lin Yushu turned around instantly upon hearing this, frowning at Su Fuyin as she asked, “Su Su, Yue’er has fainted before? Why didn’t I know? Just how many things have you been hiding from me?” Clearly, Lin Yushu could no longer stay calm. There were too many things they had kept from her, and today, she wanted answers.
Seeing Lin Yushu’s determination to get to the bottom of things, Gu Fei felt the urge to slap Su Fuyin a few times. Why did this girl always cause trouble? Didn’t she know Lin Yushu’s health was fragile? She just couldn’t control her mouth. Turning to sit opposite Lin Yushu, Gu Fei took her hands and said gently, “Yushu, these things were kept from you only because Yue Shu didn’t want you to worry. Back then, she overworked herself to pay for your treatment and fainted from exhaustion, but that was a long time ago. As for Murong Qing, I’m sure you already know some of it. But Yushu, all of us just want you to live happily—that’s all. Don’t dwell on the rest. That’s what Shu Shu wishes for most.”
Tears welled up in Lin Yushu’s eyes as she listened, and she buried her face in Gu Fei’s shoulder, sobbing. She hated her own body, her own helplessness. If not for these, her Yue’er wouldn’t have suffered so much or ended up like this.
Three days passed like this, but Lin Yueshu still showed no signs of waking. Lin Yushu grew anxious and went to ask Gu Fei, who reassured her that Lin Yueshu would wake soon and not to worry. But how could she not worry? As long as Lin Yueshu remained unconscious, her heart would stay suspended in fear.
Murong Qing had been waiting outside the door all this time, hoping Lin Yueshu would see her first upon waking. He Cheng, upon hearing the news, also rushed over and stayed in the hospital room without leaving.
That evening, Lin Yushu felt Lin Yueshu’s hand twitch in hers. Startled, she quickly stood up to check on her. Holding Lin Yueshu’s hand with one hand and placing the other on her shoulder, she leaned down and called softly, “Yue’er, are you awake? Please answer me.” Her voice was already hoarse.
“Water… water…” Lin Yueshu’s dry lips moved faintly.
“Okay… okay… I’ll get you water right away!” Lin Yushu’s heart soared with excitement. Her Yue’er was awake nothing could make her happier.
“Here’s water.” He Cheng, noticing Lin Yueshu’s request, quickly poured a glass of warm water and handed it over.
Lin Yushu took the water and gently brought it to Lin Yueshu’s lips, letting her take a few sips.
After a while, Lin Yueshu slowly opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Lin Yushu’s exhausted face. Her heart ached sharply; she knew she had made Lin Yushu worry again. Quickly forcing a smile, she said, “Sis, what are you doing here? Look at you, you’re practically turning into Sister Lin Daiyu.” There was a playful tease in her voice.
Seeing that the first thing Lin Yueshu did upon waking was poke fun at her, Lin Yushu reached out and pinched her nose. “Silly girl, why can’t you ever take care of yourself? All you do is make me worry.” With that, she hugged Lin Yueshu tightly and burst into loud sobs. All the sorrow and grief of the past few days had now melted into overwhelming happiness.
