The Devil President's Delicate Wife (GL) - Chapter 12
Murong Qing felt her anxious heart settle the moment she realized Lin Yueshu hadn’t run away. As she was about to leave the bedroom, she sensed someone on the balcony. Turning around, she walked out and the first thing she saw was Lin Yueshu sitting in the corner, clad in thin pajamas.
Lin Yueshu looked as though she had just returned from purgatory. Bruises dotted her neck and collarbone, her hands resting on the cold tiles. Her back pressed against the wall, her head slightly tilted up, her eyes vacant as they stared at the sky outside. The harsh sunlight spilled over her face, yet she showed no discomfort. Her cheeks were flushed as if scorched by fire.
Murong Qing strode over and grabbed Lin Yueshu’s arms. “Yueshu, why are you out here? It’s cold, let’s go inside.”
Lin Yueshu didn’t react, her expression unchanging, her lips sealed.
Murong Qing grew frantic at her silence. Shaking Lin Yueshu’s shoulders, she raised her voice, “Yueshu, say something! I know you resent me, but don’t shut me out. If you’re angry, hit me right now!” She grabbed Lin Yueshu’s hand and slapped herself across the face with it.
No matter how Murong Qing pleaded, Lin Yueshu remained silent. The moment Murong Qing let go, Lin Yueshu’s body slumped forward into her arms.
Horrified, Murong Qing touched Lin Yueshu’s forehead, it was burning up. She quickly scooped her up, threw a coat over her, and rushed to the hospital. By the time they arrived, Lin Yueshu was immediately wheeled into the emergency room.
Outside the ER, Murong Qing waited in agony, terrified something might happen to Lin Yueshu. Still in her pajamas and barefoot, she drew strange looks from passersby, but she didn’t care. Her mind was wholly consumed by Lin Yueshu. There was no room left to notice or mind anyone else.
She had no idea how long she waited, her eyes fixed on the ER doors, afraid that if she looked away even for a second, she might never see Lin Yueshu again. Finally, the doors swung open, and Murong Qing dashed forward, grabbing the doctor’s arm. “Doctor, is she okay?” Tears welled in her eyes, threatening to spill.
The doctor removed his mask and said slowly, “Another half hour, and she might not have made it. Was she abused? You should consider reporting it. Right now, she’s extremely weak best not to disturb her rest.”
Murong Qing didn’t know how to respond. Could she admit that she was the one who had reduced Lin Yueshu to this state? “Can I see her now?”
“Yes, but don’t stay too long,” the doctor replied before walking away.
Murong Qing’s feet felt like lead as she trudged forward, each step heavy with dread. She didn’t understand how things between her and Lin Yueshu had come to this. She loved Lin Yueshu so deeply, yet in the end, she had hurt her the most. She didn’t know how to love someone. Lin Yueshu was her first.
Murong Qing quietly opened the door to the hospital room and walked to Lin Yueshu’s bedside, gazing at her pale, bloodless face. For the first time, Murong Qing began to loathe herself, feeling like the most wicked person in the world. How could she have harmed such a kind woman like this?
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Murong Qing held Lin Yueshu’s frail, slender right hand and gently brushed away a stray lock of hair from her forehead. She wanted to burst into tears, feeling utterly helpless for the first time. She longed to lean on someone’s broad shoulders for support, but seeing Lin Yueshu’s haggard appearance drained her of even the last ounce of strength she had left.
Just then, the phone began to ring. Murong Qing took out the phone and saw it was Lin Yueshu’s, with the caller ID showing “Sister.” She hesitated, unsure whether to answer. If Lin Yushu found out Lin Yueshu was sick, she would undoubtedly question their relationship something Lin Yueshu didn’t want her to know. But if she didn’t answer, Lin Yushu would keep calling, and she would eventually find out anyway. In the end, Murong Qing decided to pick up, thinking that perhaps what Lin Yueshu needed most right now wasn’t her, but Lin Yushu.
Pressing the answer button, she said, “Hello, this is Murong Qing.”
“Eh? President Murong? Isn’t this Yue’er’s phone? Did something happen to her?” Lin Yushu was shocked. Lin Yueshu never let anyone touch her belongings unless it was an emergency, so she immediately grew worried.
Murong Qing stammered, “Yueshu, she’s in the hospital now.”
“What? The hospital? Which one? What happened to her?” Lin Yushu could no longer stay calm. Lin Yueshu had always been in good health. If she was hospitalized, it must be something serious.
“Yushu, Yueshu is fine now. She just fainted from a fever. She’s at Minghai Hospital.” Murong Qing didn’t know how else to explain it, so she settled on a fever. If she said anything more, she might break down sobbing.
“Alright, I’m heading to the hospital now.” Lin Yushu hung up and rushed straight there, with Mu Yun following close behind.
Fifteen minutes later, Lin Yushu and Mu Yun arrived at the hospital in a panic. When Lin Yushu saw Lin Yueshu lying pale and lifeless on the hospital bed, her emotional defenses completely crumbled. This was the first time she had ever seen Lin Yueshu so devoid of vitality. No matter what had happened in the past, Lin Yueshu had always stayed by her side with a smile. Sometimes like a friend, sometimes like a mother, but most often like a child.
But now, Lin Yueshu would no longer smile at her, act coy, or cook her delicious meals like before. Lin Yushu crouched by the bedside, covering her mouth to stifle her sobs. She could tell just by looking that Lin Yueshu was seriously ill. Having spent a lot of time in hospitals herself, she knew the signs.
Seeing Lin Yushu’s grief and helplessness, Mu Yun stepped forward and embraced her, offering a shoulder to lean on. Deep down, she knew this had something to do with Murong Qing. Glancing up at Murong Qing, she could tell from her disheveled appearance that the situation had unfolded suddenly.
Time passed indistinctly until the nurse finished administering the IV drip. She informed them that the patient needed rest and asked the three of them to leave the room.
Lin Yushu steadied her emotions and sat down on a chair in the hallway. Only then did she notice Murong Qing’s attire—wearing pajamas, leaning against the wall, her face haggard. The fact that Murong Qing had brought Lin Yueshu to the hospital meant they lived together. But Lin Yushu couldn’t understand why Lin Yueshu would be living with Murong Qing.
Lin Yushu had heard some rumors about Murong Qing before, but she had always dismissed them as irrelevant to her. However, the current situation suggested that the relationship between Lin Yueshu and Murong Qing was far from simple. She recalled how Lin Yueshu had never allowed her to visit her place. Could it be because she was living with Murong Qing? The thought startled Lin Yushu.
With a skeptical gaze, Lin Yushu glared at Murong Qing and demanded sharply, “What is your relationship with Yue’er?” Her tone was no longer gentle but direct and accusatory.
Hearing this, Murong Qing straightened up. Her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she remained silent.
Mu Yun, sensing the awkward tension, stepped forward to mediate. She whispered gently to Lin Yushu, “Yushu, Murong needs to go home and change. It’s freezing, and she’s still in her pajamas.”
Lin Yushu ignored Mu Yun’s attempt to defuse the situation. She turned to her with a grave expression. “Stay out of this.” Then she faced Murong Qing again. “Tell me, what exactly is your relationship with Yue’er?” Like Lin Yueshu, Lin Yushu became particularly sensitive whenever matters concerning the other were involved.
“I… I… Yueshu was bought by me from the Lin family for 100 million yuan,” Murong Qing stammered, unsure how to define their relationship. Lovers? She didn’t want to introduce her that way it would only insult Lin Yueshu. Girlfriend? Lin Yueshu had never acknowledged it. So, what were they? Describing it as a transaction seemed the simplest explanation.
Lin Yushu stood up in shock, bracing herself against the wall for support. “What did you just say? Bought… bought from the Lin family? That’s impossible! The Lin family would never do such a thing. Yue’er would never agree to this, she’s too smart for that. Hah, you must be lying!” Lin Yushu could no longer control herself. The news was too devastating, and she refused to believe it. The idea was utterly absurd.
“It’s true,” Murong Qing explained, knowing how hard it was for Lin Yushu to accept. “Two and a half years ago, the Lin family faced a financial crisis. Your father came to me and proposed this arrangement. I agreed.”
Lin Yushu collapsed to her knees against the wall, staring wide-eyed at Murong Qing, her voice choked with emotion. “Yue’er, how could she agree? I know her temperament. If she didn’t want it, no one could force her.”
Murong Qing didn’t want to continue. If she said any more, Lin Yushu would be even more unable to accept it. But seeing the agony on Lin Yueshu’s face, she couldn’t hold back any longer. After all, Lin Yushu would find out sooner or later whether the pain came once or twice, it was better to resolve it all at once. “Yueshu, she made a deal with your father to leave the Lin family. That’s why things turned out this way.” Murong Qing didn’t mention that Lin Yueshu had done it for Lin Yushu. If she had said that, Lin Yushu would have completely broken down right then and there.
After hearing Murong Qing’s words, Lin Yushu seemed to understand something. Lin Yueshu had left the Lin family mainly for her sake, hadn’t she? How could Lin Yushu not know her sister, the one she had relied on for over twenty years? She sat on the ground in silence, no longer having the strength or energy to discuss the matter further. All she wanted was to be alone, to quietly think through everything.
Seeing that Lin Yushu had suddenly fallen silent, Mu Yun stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her. She knew Lin Yushu was suffering—wasn’t she suffering too? Turning to Murong Qing, she said, “Murong, go home and change your clothes. We’ll take care of things here. You don’t need to worry anymore.”
Murong Qing gave a quiet “Mm” in response before leaving.
