- Chapter 8 - The Sickly Beauty Dropped His Mask
Jian Tao felt a sense of unease as the silence stretched across the room. “System, could there be a problem?”
“They are probably just shocked that your face is healed,” 250 said with disgust. “After all, I saw many people here who were waiting to see you make a fool of yourself.”
“Hmph,” Jian Tao certainly knew that. “To them, looking at a disfigured face is equivalent to seeing someone make a fool of themselves. These people are truly bored. I suppose my role as a villain is just too deeply rooted in their hearts; otherwise, why would I be so annoying?”
250 immediately said with joy, “Exactly! Tao Tao, keep things as they are. Our plot line is progressing very smoothly right now.”
Jian Tao adjusted his state and looked at the silent crowd. His elegant eyebrows furrowed, and his light-colored eyes swept over everyone. He adopted an impatient expression. “Are we going to keep playing or not? So what if my face is healed? What is there to be so surprised about?”
Only then did the crowd snap out of their daze. Their eyes began to wander; it was indeed a bit embarrassing to have stared so blankly at Jian Tao, this contemptible playboy.
“Young Master Jian… your face really shows no sign of injury at all. I wonder which hospital abroad treated you,” said the young man who had been cheering the loudest earlier. He now lowered his head, not daring to look at Jian Tao, feeling ashamed of his racing heart.
“Yes, which doctor was it? It is practically a medical miracle,” added the young man who had been ready to record with his phone. He was now ashamed of his own superficiality, finding Jian Tao’s appearance unexpectedly heart-stirring.
How could Jian Tao tell them the specifics? His face turned red because he had to lie. “I have seen so many doctors, how could I remember? Are we playing the game or not? If not, I am going back to rest.”
“We are playing, of course we are playing,” Jiang Chengli said. His gaze remained fixed on Jian Tao’s face, unwilling to look away. “Let us continue right now.”
Jiang Shi was sitting closest to Jian Tao and had seen his features beneath the mask even more clearly. He suppressed the shock that refused to subside. That fragrance was even more intense now, causing him to frown involuntarily. A layer of fine sweat broke out on his body, and he pointedly moved a bit further away from Jian Tao.
When he turned his head, he met Jiang Chengli’s excited and inquiring gaze. As a close friend, Jiang Shi knew that look all too well: it was the look of a predator discovering prey. This caused a surge of irritability in his heart. After all, Jian Tao was the one who had been chasing after him; having his friend covet Jian Tao felt incredibly awkward.
Jiang Shi shook his head, answering Jiang Chengli’s silent question about whether he knew Jian Tao’s face had been cured.
The bottle began to spin again, but everyone’s enthusiasm seemed low. The seven or eight people sitting in a circle kept glancing toward Jian Tao from time to time.
Jian Tao always played games seriously. He watched the bottle stop, its neck pointing toward one of the girls. He began to feel gloating. “Truth or dare?”
The girl glanced at Jian Tao, her face turning red instantly. She said, “Truth.”
“Alright.” A boy took out a deck of cards from behind him. “Draw one.”
What? It turned out that both Truth and Dare were decided by drawing cards, yet his task had been specifically assigned by them earlier. He had been treated differently! Jian Tao’s little face turned red with anger. “This is unfair! You are targeting me, aren’t you!”
As a cannon fodder villain, the more he was targeted, the more successful his role was. However, as a villain, how could he not throw a tantrum upon discovering such biased treatment? Furthermore, he personally hated people changing the rules of a game at will!
At this moment, everyone looked over, and the game came to a halt. Jiang Chengli got up from his seat, took a small piece of cake over to Jian Tao, and kicked the person sitting next to him. That person sensibly moved to another spot.
Jiang Chengli held the cake out to Jian Tao. “Young Master Jian, calm down. We didn’t set the rules that strictly at the start.”
Jian Tao looked at the cake in the man’s hand and pursed his fleshy, pink lips. He did not reach for it. He hadn’t expected these people to actually stop and listen to him; they were probably afraid he would throw a fit and spoil the fun.
Seeing that Jian Tao remained silent, Jiang Chengli leaned in and asked with a smile, “Then how can we make Young Master Jian feel better?”
Upon hearing this, Jian Tao immediately leaned into his annoying villain persona. Since someone had offered him the floor, he had to make use of it. “Then each of you must choose either Truth or Dare. Everyone has to take a turn for it to count.”
Jian Tao didn’t really expect them to agree. He just did it to maintain his character. He tapped his fingers; actually, since these days had been so boring, he quite wanted to play.
He thought the game would fall through, but to his surprise, Jiang Chengli agreed immediately. “Fine, I agree. What about the rest of you?”
Seeing that Jiang Chengli had agreed, the others all nodded. “The rules weren’t clear before, so this will make up for it.” “I also think this is reasonable. Let us start with me.”
Jian Tao was stunned. This was not the direction he had imagined at all. He immediately took out his phone to look at his reflection. “System, did taking off the mask activate some kind of villain buff?”
On the phone screen, a gorgeous little face appeared vividly. Looking at his own face, Jian Tao felt a sudden sense of authority.
“Our path as a villain is getting smoother and smoother!” 250 said with surprise.
By this time, the players had all taken their turns, but the game got stuck when it reached Jiang Shi. Jiang Shi sat with a dark face, swept his gaze over the group, and said impatiently, “If you want to play like this, leave me out of it.”
Jian Tao knew that Jiang Shi would never give him that much face, so he hadn’t planned on forcing him. The others didn’t dare to say much either, so they naturally skipped him.
Soon, a new round of Truth or Dare began. The bottle spun and slowly came to a stop. Jian Tao’s luck tonight seemed truly bad; the bottle pointed at him once again. His beautiful face slumped slightly. “I choose Dare.”
“OK.” Jiang Chengli reached back to get the cards and handed them toward Jian Tao. “Pick one.”
Jian Tao’s snow-white finger landed on a card with a dark pattern, and he pulled it out. After turning it over, he read the words on it aloud: “Please kiss the person on your left.”
Jian Tao froze and dully turned his face to the side. Hearing the content, Jiang Shi’s hand tightened unconsciously.
The surroundings fell silent for a few seconds before the atmosphere reached a climax, with everyone cheering and hooting. Jian Tao also grew nervous. These people really loved a spectacle; they were probably excited to see him and Jiang Shi make fools of themselves.
Just then, Su Wen’s voice came from the stairs. “What are you doing? Why is it so lively?”
“We are playing Truth or Dare, and now Jian Tao has to kiss Jiang Shi!”
Su Wen’s body stiffened for a moment. A slight curve appeared at the corner of his mouth, but by the time he walked up to the group, that curve had flattened out. He had not realized when Jian Tao had taken his mask off.
