- Chapter 4 - The Dangerous Encounter
“That is Jiang Mu?” Jian Tao asked System 250.
“That is him,” 250 replied.
“He looks difficult to approach,” Jian Tao muttered. He immediately had the system pull up the character introduction from the original novel. “The original description says his personality is unpredictable and he has a severe obsession with cleanliness. There was once someone who drank too much and blindly tried to harass him; Jiang Mu had both of the person’s hands broken.”
Jian Tao didn’t dare say more. A chill swept over his body. “He is a bit scary.”
System 250 seemed frightened as well but still offered comfort. “We just need to be careful.”
The person and the system fell into silence. Just then, someone tapped Jian Tao on the shoulder. He jumped in fright and turned his head to see that it was Jiang Chengli, who was still standing beside him.
“What are you dazing off for?” Jiang Chengli looked in the direction of Jian Tao’s gaze. “This is your first time seeing Jiang Shi’s older brother, isn’t it?”
Jian Tao licked the corner of his lips, which were stained with milk residue, and asked nervously, “What is it?”
Jiang Chengli’s gaze became glued to Jian Tao’s lips again. Once he realized this, he rubbed his nose awkwardly. “Even though he and Jiang Shi are brothers, his personality is completely different from Jiang Shi’s. Don’t provoke him, and don’t pester Jiang Shi in front of him, or your end might be very miserable.”
Jiang Chengli didn’t know why he was telling Jian Tao these things. Normally, no matter how much this young master courted death, he would stand by and watch it as a joke. He was acting quite unusually today.
Hearing Jiang Chengli’s words, Jian Tao became even more nervous. His fingers unconsciously pinched the side of his trousers. Jiang Chengli seemed to notice his nervousness. In a comforting gesture, he placed a hand on Jian Tao’s waist, leaned close to his ear, and said, “It is fine. Jiang Shi won’t complain to him. We won’t have many chances to run into him anyway. You don’t need to be afraid.”
The skin behind Jian Tao’s ear was also delicate and snow-white, with a hint of pale pink. His earlobes were crystal clear. Why was it that everywhere except his face was so beautiful? There was also that marvelous fragrance on his body, which caused Jiang Chengli to lose his focus for a moment. If others saw Jiang Chengli being so close to Jian Tao, they would probably think this playboy was so desperate he had lost his taste.
When Jian Tao turned his head, he bumped into Jiang Chengli’s half-smiling peach blossom eyes. He realized how close they were and thought that this fellow’s sudden kindness must hide some wicked intent. He immediately pushed him away and said stubbornly, “Why should I be afraid of him? I am not afraid of him at all.”
Pushed aside, Jiang Chengli regained his senses and laughed at himself, mocking his own sudden “lack of taste.” However, his gaze swept over Jian Tao’s waist again; it seemed quite slender.
Jian Tao’s eyes kept drifting toward Jiang Mu in the distance. He had to complete this task today; otherwise, he didn’t know if there would be another chance before the wedding. Seeing Jiang Mu walking toward the exit of the banquet hall, Jian Tao immediately grabbed a handful of milk balls, stuffed them into his pocket, and followed him out.
Behind him, Jiang Chengli was about to call out to him but decided against it, not knowing what he would say anyway. He turned his gaze back to the plate of milk balls. Because Jian Tao had grabbed a handful, there weren’t many left, and one had even fallen off the plate. He picked one up to examine it; it was just a round, milky-white ball with nothing special about it.
Jiang Chengli stuffed the milk ball into his mouth and imitated Jian Tao’s way of rolling it around. As expected, he wasn’t used to this kind of thing; his mouth was filled with an overly sweet, milky taste.
In the long, narrow corridor, a layer of sweat broke out on Jian Tao’s body. Jiang Mu walked too fast. For someone like Jian Tao, who started panting after walking just a short while, he almost couldn’t keep up. He leaned against the wall to rest, watching Jiang Mu enter a room. It was likely a break room. If he wanted to complete the task, he would have to go in and find him.
Jian Tao took a milk ball from his pocket and popped it into his mouth to soothe his nerves. After taking two deep breaths, he slowly walked toward the room.
It is just completing a task. Jiang Mu is a person, not a monster, Jian Tao kept telling himself. He reached out to the handle and pressed down. The door was unlocked and opened easily. The inside was pitch black without any lights. The darkness revealed by the crack in the door felt as if it would swallow a person, making it feel strangely terrifying.
Jian Tao swallowed his saliva and pushed the door open. The room was exceptionally quiet; he could only hear his own breathing. He reached his hand toward the wall, searching for the light switch.
In the next moment, Jian Tao heard a strange sound followed by a gust of wind. Someone attacked him. Immediately after, he was pinned against the wall by a powerful force. Jian Tao cried out in surprise. His shoulder blades hit the wall so hard it almost brought him to tears. A second later, his throat was gripped, and he felt as though he was about to suffocate.
“Wahhh, System, am I going to die right here?” He was not just in pain; he was scared to death.
System 250 was so frightened it shrank back. “He actually didn’t turn on the lights in the room. It won’t be your fault if the task fails.”
Just as Jian Tao felt he might truly pass out, the pressure on his neck loosened. Then, a cold, chilling voice sounded, “Who are you?”
Jian Tao caught his breath and patted the man’s hand. Jiang Mu took the opportunity to release his neck, grabbing both of Jian Tao’s hands and pinning them above his head. “This is my private lounge. Why did you come in?”
In the darkness, the two were extremely close, their breaths intermingling. Jiang Mu smelled a singular fragrance entwined with the scent of milk, which actually caused his nerves to relax slightly.
“I also wanted to rest,” Jian Tao muttered. Having his hands pinned above his head was very uncomfortable, and his weak body couldn’t handle such treatment. “And you didn’t lock the door. How was I supposed to know it was your private lounge?”
Although his words were technically justified, Jian Tao’s voice was like a mosquito’s buzz. The man in front of him felt like a solid wall, making it hard for him to breathe. His body felt hot and sticky with sweat.
“It is written on the door,” Jiang Mu said coldly.
“I didn’t see it.” Jian Tao really hadn’t noticed; his nerves were so tense that he had overlooked many things. “Hurry up and let me go.”
the fragrance grew stronger. Where their hands met, it was already slick and sticky with sweat. Jiang Mu endured the discomfort and, before Jian Tao could finish speaking, he accurately felt toward the boy’s pocket and then felt up past his waist.
He had many enemies, and people tried to get close to him through various means every day. He didn’t expect that just when he wanted to be alone for a while, he would run into such an inexplicable person.
“What are you doing!” Jian Tao’s voice changed pitch, and his body trembled. With one of the man’s hands pinning him to the wall, only his toes could touch the floor. He was incredibly tense.
Jiang Mu felt the trembling of the waist in front of him. He was very sensitive and could sense the boy’s fragility. He immediately lowered his guard; a person like this could be subdued with one hand and posed no threat.
Just as Jiang Mu was about to release him, the person in front of him suddenly began to struggle violently. This was very unusual. Jiang Mu immediately hit the light switch. The room suddenly brightened. He saw that the skin of the person in front of him had turned deep red. Although he was wearing a mask, one could still tell he was in great pain.
Jiang Mu looked at him calmly, his eyes devoid of sympathy. To attend a banquet while wearing a mask—there was only the Young Master of the Jian family.
Jian Tao clutched his throat. He had been so startled that the milk ball in his mouth had suddenly gotten stuck in his throat. He was suffocating and felt as though he was dying. He subconsciously grabbed the man in front of him, his eyes full of a plea for help. But the person before him remained calm, focused only on wiping his own hands with a wet wipe, as if he wouldn’t even frown if the person in front of him died.
Tears caused by the physical reaction covered his face. Finally, Jian Tao felt the milk ball loosen. In the next second, he coughed the milk ball out.
Milky-white saliva was on his lips, and the milk ball flew in a trajectory, landing on Jiang Mu’s chest and leaving a puddle of milky-white liquid.
For a moment, the room was eerily quiet. Jian Tao looked in horror at the tall man in front of him. The man’s features were handsome and profound, but his face lacked vitality, and his skin had the type of paleness that comes from a lack of sunlight. At this moment, the man’s gaze moved from the stain on his chest to Jian Tao.
That chilling gaze made Jian Tao’s legs go weak. This was Jiang Mu, a man with a pathological obsession with cleanliness. At this moment, Jian Tao felt his end might be even worse than that of the person who had his hands broken.
He instinctively ducked to the side until he reached a corner. “I… I didn’t do it on purpose!”
His voice was trembling. Jiang Mu looked at the person who was like a rabbit, with milky-white liquid still on the corner of his mouth, sweat-soaked marks on his body, and his shirt bunched up at the waist, revealing red finger marks.
Suddenly, as he was thinking about how to handle this person who had intruded and stained his clothes, another thought suppressed it. He actually wanted to see this person’s face now.
Jian Tao was dazed, his mind filled with the thought that he might have to say goodbye to this world. But in the next second, he felt the mask on his face loosen and gradually move downward.
His eyes were completely revealed—a white, sweat-damp forehead and eyes that were like a starry river, currently moist and red at the corners, looking pitiable.
Jiang Mu’s fingers holding the mask tightened. A strange, numbing itch climbed from his spine to the back of his head. His lower abdomen tightened, causing his heart to race uncontrollably.
As the mask moved further down, his entire face was about to be revealed. Fortunately, Jian Tao reacted. He quickly pulled the mask back into place and, before the man could respond, he gave him a push and fled through the door.
He didn’t care about the task anymore; Jian Tao felt that protecting himself was the most important thing, or else this world would be ruined.
“Wahhh, System, I never want to see this person again,” Jian Tao complained.
“It is all the fault of the rumors. Actually, he just has a bit of a cleanliness obsession; he didn’t really do anything to you,” System 250 said, though it had also been terrified just now. “Besides, the task is complete!”
Nothing could make the system happier than completing a task. Jian Tao was also surprised for a moment. He had been so focused on saving himself just now. Looking back, although Jiang Mu’s temperament was gloomy, he hadn’t actually done anything to him, or else Jian Tao wouldn’t have been able to escape.
“He must really have a severe obsession with cleanliness. Staining his clothes was enough to complete the task,” Jian Tao muttered.
Back in the lounge, Jiang Mu remained standing in place. The strange sensation just now made him feel, for the first time in his life, somewhat at a loss. He brought his fingertips to his nose; that fragrance still lingered.
