The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 19
Upon returning home, Su Wen became incredibly busy. He was rarely home during the day and traveled frequently for business. Originally, he was only brought forth as a successor because the Jian family’s biological son had been “ruined” by overindulgence. To the family’s surprise, Su Wen’s capabilities far exceeded their estimations. Now, they trusted him implicitly, gradually handing over more authority. Once he officially takes over the Jian Corporation, he will be added to the family tree and change his last name to Jian.
Without Su Wen around to “pursue,” Jian Tao felt much more relaxed, until Mr. and Mrs. Jian returned from their business trip with a piece of news.
The wedding date was set for the 8th of next month. With only half a month left, his plotline was entering its final stage.
Jian Tao felt a mixture of nerves and excitement. However, one thing confused him: why were his parents, who had completely given up on him, suddenly so attentive? Even the household servants, who used to be indifferent and stone-faced, were now enthusiastic. Some even waited by his door just to hear his instructions. He wondered if they were being so diligent only because he was about to leave the family; it made him feel very unsettled.
That evening, while Jian Tao was feeding his fish, he received a message from Jiang Chengli.
Jiang Chengli: Tao Tao, we’re at Super Star Bar. Do you want to come hang out?
Jian Tao was about to decline since he was ready for bed. Furthermore, Jiang Shi’s task bar had reached a critical threshold; Jian Tao didn’t understand how it had increased so much when he hadn’t even bothered the guy for days.
Before he could send the message, 250’s voice rang out. “Go. It will trigger a new task.”
Jian Tao’s heart skipped a beat. “Why is there another task?”
“It’s a hidden task. This plotline is optional, and the novel only mentions it in passing, but I’ve detected that this task is related to the catalyst of your death,” 250 said truthfully.
“Meaning, this task won’t keep me here longer, but will precisely lead to my exit from this world?” Jian Tao asked.
“Correct.”
“Can I know what the task is?”
“No. Hidden tasks must be accepted or rejected now. If you accept, the details will only be revealed when the task triggers,” 250 said, adding indignantly, “This is so unreasonable! Tao Tao, should we take it?”
Jian Tao didn’t even hesitate. He nodded. He would accept any task that helped complete the plot and allowed him to leave this world quickly. Besides, he had come this far; what was there to fear?
“Accept.”
Super Star Bar was a famous high-end club in City A. It operated on a membership system, and most of the patrons were young, wealthy heirs. Jiang Chengli and the others often came here to relax and play music.
Jian Tao didn’t particularly enjoy noisy places like this; he preferred quiet lounge bars with a calmer atmosphere. After arriving, he messaged Jiang Chengli and stepped out of the car for some air.
The summer night was muggy. Jian Tao was dressed simply in a white T-shirt and casual trousers. While waiting, he looked down at his phone. The young men stepping out for a smoke couldn’t help but stare, discussing the probability of getting his contact information. They felt a rare sense of hesitation; the person was so stunning it felt sacred. If he were just standard high-quality, they wouldn’t have hesitated, but his ethereal beauty made them afraid to approach.
“Hello, sir. Are you going inside?” The security guard’s face was flushed. Luckily, the neon lights hid his shyness, or he might have stuttered.
Jian Tao looked up and nodded. The guard took a moment to recover. “Well, you can go in and look for your party first.”
Jian Tao glanced around. Wasn’t this place strictly members-only?
While Jian Tao was wondering, a familiar figure appeared. Jiang Chengli ran out in a hurry. He spotted Jian Tao immediately; the neon sign above reflected on Jian Tao’s face, making him look vibrantly surreal. Even though Jiang Chengli had seen him for days, the sight still took his breath away.
Jiang Chengli walked up and familiarly slung an arm around Jian Tao’s shoulders. His nose brushed near Jian Tao’s neck, finally smelling that dream-like scent. As he pulled back, his lips grazed Jian Tao’s earlobe. He swept a boastful gaze over the other men staring at Jian Tao. “Let’s go. I’ll take you in.”
Inside, Jian Tao continued to draw gazes until a certain troublesome presence shot back a warning look, forcing the onlookers to look away.
Jian Tao had just entered when he bumped into a sullen-looking Jiang Shi. It was as if Jiang Shi was unhappy just seeing him. Since the lights were dim, Jian Tao didn’t bother putting on his usual act.
Jiang Shi walked up and bumped Jiang Chengli aside. Jiang Chengli nearly tripped. Jiang Shi had been in a bad mood, so Jiang Chengli had stayed to drink with him. After a few rounds, Jiang Shi had told him to call Jian Tao. Jiang Chengli had tried to invite Jian Tao several times since returning from the mountains, but his messages had gone unanswered. He figured with Jiang Shi present, Jian Tao would come. Sure enough, he was right.
But now that the person was here, Jiang Shi was ready to discard the helper.
In the flashing lights, Jiang Shi stared directly at Jian Tao, making him feel uneasy.
“What’s wrong?” Jian Tao asked. Was it his imagination, or did Jiang Shi look resentful?
“Why didn’t you message me?” Jiang Shi asked dully. Since returning, he had been waiting for a message. He assumed Jian Tao would contact him immediately, but he hadn’t received a single word. He wasn’t necessarily desperate for contact, but it had become a habit. After waiting a day, he wanted to message Jian Tao, but then stubbornly decided to see how long Jian Tao could last.
Everything felt strange. Compared to Jian Tao’s previous obsession, the current situation felt illusory. It seemed like nothing had changed, yet everything had. It felt hollow and ethereal.
Jian Tao was stunned. He realized that after acting like a simp for so long, his sudden silence for a few days must have made Jiang Shi feel like something was missing.
Before Jian Tao could answer, Jiang Shi said irritably, “算了 (Forget it). We’re performing a new song. Listen closely.”
Jian Tao nodded instinctively and was ushered to a VIP booth. There were other people on the sofa, but Jiang Shi told them to leave so they could perform. The bar lights shifted to a softer style, and the music dimmed. Jiang Shi and his band took the stage. Though they were rich heirs, they had a professional stage presence.
Jiang Shi gripped the mic. “I’m going to sing my new work. It’s called Starry Sky.”
Jiang Shi was cool and didn’t waste words. He fixed the mic to the stand, and a moment later, his fingers slid across the six strings as the intro began.
Jian Tao expected something high-energy, but the song was lyrical and soulful. He liked this style and was about to listen properly when a clear, cold voice spoke.
“Hello, sir. Your drink.”
A rainbow cocktail was placed before him. Jian Tao looked up at the tall waiter. In the dim light, he couldn’t see the man’s face clearly, but his features seemed sharp and defined.
Jian Tao was drawn by the voice, but just as he was about to look away, 250’s voice rang out. “Important character alert: The story’s primary villain, Lu Jingze. He is the Lu family’s illegitimate son currently living adrift. He hasn’t been officially recognized by the family yet and is currently working as a waiter at Super Star.”
Jian Tao was about to breathe a sigh of relief at the new character introduction when 250 spoke again.
“New task online: Keep Lu Jingze as a sugar baby after your marriage.”
The hidden task provided no further details, but that short sentence left Jian Tao speechless. “What? What!”
Even though his marriage to Jiang Mu was a deception and couldn’t be legally registered, this was too much.
Jian Tao broke into a cold sweat. He finally understood what the catalyst for his death was and how he died in the story.
He was drowned in a bathtub by an enraged Jiang Mu!
