The Delicate Beauty Grabbed the Cannon Fodder Villain’s Script [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 15
The air was exceptionally crisp after the rain cleared. In the afternoon, Jian Tao took his bird out to the courtyard for a stroll. The bird’s name was Little White. It loved this place, and every time Jian Tao brought it out, its chirps were especially clear and melodious.
They were scheduled to leave soon. Jian Tao didn’t mind much, but he felt that Little White would surely be reluctant to go.
After dinner that evening, Jian Tao found himself unable to sleep. Looking through the window at the star-studded sky, it seemed as if the rain had washed the heavens, making the stars shine with extra brilliance.
He picked up the birdcage and left his room. The hallway was quiet, as most people had likely already turned in. When he reached the first floor, he could hear some people laughing and making a ruckus in one of the rooms, but he didn’t join the fun. Feeling a bit melancholy and sentimental, he stepped outside.
On both sides of the entrance steps were long, smooth stone pedestals. They were the perfect height to sit on, allowing one’s legs to dangle naturally.
Jian Tao set the birdcage down and sat beside it. He looked up at the stars, and as he watched them, he let out a soft sigh.
He had been bound to this system and brought to this world after a car accident. His original body was likely lying in a hospital room, unconscious. His parents were surely crying by his bedside, doing everything in their power to find a cure.
He hoped to return quickly; he didn’t want his parents to suffer for so long.
As these thoughts crossed his mind, a mist of tears clouded his eyes. His lips pouted involuntarily, looking incredibly aggrieved.
Meanwhile, in Jiang Shi’s room, the man was tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Every time he closed his eyes, his mind was filled with Jian Tao.
Jian Tao’s face when he was angry, the way he looked when he was bullied into tears, his happy expressions, his serious face during games, his dazed look…
Finally, Jiang Shi opened his eyes in resignation. How did it come to this?
Restless, he headed downstairs and took out a cigarette to get some fresh air. However, just as he put the cigarette in his mouth and before he could light it, he saw a figure sitting on the stone pedestal, radiating a faint sense of sorrow.
Jiang Shi’s lips curved upward instinctively. He put the cigarette back into its pack and let out an intentional, light cough to announce his presence.
Jian Tao indeed looked back. Upon seeing Jiang Shi with his sad little face, he gave him a single glance and then ignored him, turning back around.
Jiang Shi felt a sudden throb of emotion in his heart. He had never seen Jian Tao like this before. He walked over of his own accord and sat down beside him. “What’s wrong with you?”
Jian Tao didn’t want to talk to him. He kept his eyes on the moon. “Just thinking about things.”
“Oh,” Jiang Shi replied. He wasn’t annoyed; he simply stayed there quietly to watch the starry sky with him.
He was likely the only one who had ever seen this side of Jian Tao.
The moonlight was bright and clear, the stars felt close enough to touch, and the breeze was cool. For a moment, Jiang Shi was mesmerized by the person beside him. The wind ruffled the soft hair on Jian Tao’s forehead, and his sorrowful expression made him look breathtakingly beautiful.
Jiang Shi’s fingers began to tap rhythmically on the stone pedestal. It was a melody inspired by tonight’s sky and the person beneath the moon.
On the day they were supposed to leave, the previously clear sky suddenly broke into a heavy downpour. The rain showed no signs of stopping, continuing well into the evening.
Jian Tao stood by the window in his room, teasing the bird in the cage with his finger. “We can’t leave. We have to stay here for another day. You must be happy, right?”
As he spoke, there was a knock on the door. Jian Tao turned around. “Come in.”
It was Su Wen. “What did the Young Master need me for?”
Jian Tao fidgeted with his fingers instinctively. “Um… could you lend me some clothes to wear? All of mine are unwashed, and the ones I’m wearing got soaked in the rain. They’re still wet…”
The more Jian Tao spoke, the redder his face became, until his voice trailed off into a whisper.
There was no way Jiang Shi would lend him anything, and Jiang Chengli was acting strange lately. That left only Su Wen. Even though Su Wen was “wicked,” he was at least obedient.
Su Wen raised an eyebrow, his lips curving slightly. “Why not borrow from Jiang Shi?”
Jian Tao’s face flushed deeper. He blurted out, “Then you go ask him for me!”
Su Wen was taken aback. He had expected Jian Tao to say that Jiang Shi wouldn’t lend him anything; he hadn’t expected the boy to be clever enough to use Su Wen as a shield to save face.
“I’ll go to my room to get some clothes. Please wait a moment, Young Master,” Su Wen said.
Once Su Wen left, Jian Tao breathed a sigh of relief. He tugged at his damp clothes. Earlier, he had thought the rain had stopped and took the bird out, but in less than five minutes, the rain had come pouring down again, soaking him to the bone.
He had packed his clothes based on the number of days they were staying, assuming they would leave today. This had been his last set of clean clothes. Now, he didn’t have a single dry stitch to his name and had no choice but to borrow from Su Wen.
Before long, Su Wen returned holding a clean white shirt. He handed it to Jian Tao. “Young Master, wear this one.”
Jian Tao took it and immediately caught the faint, fresh scent of the fabric. It was perfectly dry, which pleased him, though as he held it up against himself, it was clearly much too large.
Jian Tao glanced at Su Wen and felt a sudden pang of envy. The man truly was much taller and broader than him.
“You can go now. I’m going to take a bath.” With that, Jian Tao headed into the bathroom.
He grabbed a pair of shorts he had worn before; they weren’t too dirty, so they would have to do.
The shower turned on, and steam began to cloud the glass. Su Wen did not leave the room. Through the frosted glass, he could see a blurred silhouette. The sound of the running water sent ripples through his heart.
He hadn’t seen Jian Tao wearing his clothes yet; how could he possibly leave?
After bathing, Jian Tao realized the shirt wasn’t just wide—it was long. He didn’t even need to wear the shorts; the shirt covered everything that needed covering. Since he was just wearing it to sleep and the rain made the night chilly, borrowing the shirt had been a necessity.
Once dressed, Jian Tao stepped out of the bathroom and froze. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
The scent of body wash immediately filled the room. Su Wen felt as if the humid steam was clinging to his own skin, making him flush. The sight of Jian Tao before him made him catch his breath. The boy’s face was tinged with a post-bath glow, and his skin looked pink and soft. The collar of the shirt was unbuttoned, revealing his delicate collarbones. He appeared to be wearing nothing underneath, with his long legs exposed and his knees a soft, rosy hue.
At that moment, Jian Tao was looking at him with misty, post-shower eyes, making Su Wen’s heart tighten. The feeling of seeing Jian Tao in his clothes was indescribable.
“I was just waiting to see if my clothes fit the Young Master,” Su Wen said.
Jian Tao immediately pulled the shirt tighter around himself. He assumed Su Wen was looking for an excuse to take the shirt back, likely fearing Jiang Shi would be jealous if he saw it. “It fits fine. I’m going to bed now. Please leave.”
Su Wen took another deep breath of the air in the room. “Goodnight, Young Master.”
After he left, Jian Tao relaxed and lay on the bed to play with his phone.
He wasn’t addicted to his phone, but he occasionally checked his social feed. As he scrolled, a photo of the starry sky caught his eye. It was quite artistic. Just as he was about to save it, he saw the name—it was taken by Jiang Shi. He immediately lost interest.
He’s so ill-tempered, how could he possibly appreciate beauty? Jian Tao thought with deep disdain.
The next moment, however, there was a knock at his door. Jian Tao was a bit annoyed. “Who is it?”
“Jiang Shi.”
Jian Tao bolted upright, feeling as guilty as if he had been caught doing something wrong. It took him a moment to realize he had only been insulting the man in his head; Jiang Shi couldn’t possibly know!
“What is it?” Jian Tao asked.
“Open the door. I have something to say to you.” Outside, Jiang Shi had a visible smile on his face. His hair was a bit messy from running, and he looked like a pure-hearted youth with slightly reddened ears.
Jian Tao had “liked” his photo of the starry sky that night. Surely, he understood what that meant and how Jiang Shi was expressing himself.
