The Daily Life of a Male God Teasing a Shou - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Back at the hotel, he took a joyful bath and curled up on the sofa. He tried calling Shen Leilei, but the call wouldn’t go through. Taking the opportunity, Yan Yifan began to snoop through Bai Jiangnan’s WeChat.
Bai Jiangnan had just debuted this year. His debut work was a nonsensical web drama where he played a domineering prince who was so handsome it was off the charts. While capturing the hearts of countless girls, he also left Yan Yifan awestruck.
Isn’t this the school hunk from the neighboring school I followed back in high school? He hadn’t expected that after all these years, he would actually find him again!
After that web drama, Yan Yifan had become a total “visual fan” of Bai Jiangnan. As luck would have it, he saw the project filing for The Promised Time in his brother’s office. Following the clues, he tracked him down here.
He hadn’t expected his personality to be so good, either. For a moment, Yan Yifan felt a bit of regret that he had been too cowardly in high school to strike up a conversation. If they had become friends earlier, would he be enjoying this kind of treatment by now?
Thinking about everything that happened today, Yan Yifan was as happy as a hamster, covering his face and giggling.
Suddenly, a ding sounded. Yan Yifan froze for a moment; Bai Jiangnan had sent him a WeChat message: “Are you back at the hotel?”
“Holy crap!” Yan Yifan was instantly excited. His body bounced off the sofa. After doing a lap around the room, he sat back down cross-legged with a beaming face: “I’m back.”
Bai Jiangnan’s profile picture was a little white rabbit wearing a flower crown. The little rabbit hopped: “You left something with me.”
Yan Yifan: “What?” He looked left and right, thinking for a moment, but couldn’t figure out what it was.
“Guess.”
Yan Yifan: “I brought back my phone and wallet!” Yan Yifan couldn’t remember anything he had missed.
Bai Jiangnan: “…Your fountain pen.” When Bai Jiangnan had signed for Yan Yifan earlier, he used Yan Yifan’s pen. This pen was something Yan Yifan used to show off; to meet Bai Jiangnan, he had specially dressed in a casual suit today, so naturally, he had to carry a pen to complete the look.
I’m so smart, Yan Yifan thought, smiling as he replied in a casual tone: “Oh, I remember now.”
Bai Jiangnan: “I’ll bring it to you tomorrow.”
Yan Yifan: “Sure.”
Bai Jiangnan: “Is it expensive? What if I lose it?”
Yan Yifan: “Then you’ll have to compensate me with yourself! From now on, you are mine!”
Bai Jiangnan went silent for a second. The next moment, Yan Yifan sent: “Hahahahahahaha! Am I particularly like a domineering prince? Handsome enough to crack the sky? Isn’t my acting great?”
Bai Jiangnan: “So handsome.jpg”
The two chatted for a while until the message box stopped moving. Yan Yifan gave himself a thumbs-up for his wit and, with a satisfied face, opened Bai Jiangnan’s Moments. Bai Jiangnan was a relatively easy-going, mature person who seemed able to talk to anyone; being around him felt exceptionally pleasant. His Moments were often filled with down-to-earth “cold” jokes and sightings from his travels.
Occasionally coming across a photo, Yan Yifan would save it as if it were a precious treasure. Although there were few selfies, after flipping through his Moments, Yan Yifan felt as though he had grown closer to him. He “liked” Bai Jiangnan’s latest status. Then, still wanting more, he opened his Weibo alt-account and went to Bai Jiangnan’s Weibo page.
Bai Jiangnan’s latest Weibo post was a selfie from a day ago when he joined the crew: he was leaning back in a chair, long legs slightly bent, holding a stack of scripts in his hand.
It was originally a very good-looking, fan-attracting post, but underneath were some “anti-fans” (haters) attacking him:
Buddha is Me: “Heh, only you have long legs.”
Pink Maiden Heart: “Using the script as a prop is totally unprofessional. I bet the role will be a disaster!”
Hahahaha Demon: “Please don’t ruin my Shao Rong! Just thinking about the pure and noble Shao Rong turning into a domineering CEO-style ice-face makes me… [Zhou Jie ‘Stop’ Gesture].jpg”
Yan Yifan was unhappy, but he didn’t want to attract more hate to him. So, he “liked” every single comment praising Bai Jiangnan and then posted one himself: Jiangnan’s legs are super long, perfect! Ignore those people who are jealous of you. I believe you can do it!
After posting this, Yan Yifan browsed the forums for gossip. Just as he was about to sleep, his phone rang. H-his brother was calling…
Yan Yifan first sat up straight, took a sip of mineral water, cleared his throat, and finally answered the phone, greeting in a very well-behaved tone: “Hehe, Brother.”
Yan Zihua’s serious voice came through: “I heard you brought a girlfriend to the The Promised Time set?”
Yan Yifan: As expected! It must have been Director Li who snitched to my brother! Director Li looked all smiles and amiable, nodding to everything, but who knew he’d do this!
Yan Yifan quickly acted like a sycophant: “It’s just a small role; it’s the same no matter who gets it.”
Yan Zihua’s voice was somewhat displeased: “Which woman is it this time? Lu Weiwei?”
Yan Yifan chuckled: “It’s Shen Leilei.”
Sure enough, the next second, Yan Zihua’s voice became much more stern: “What do you mean by changing girlfriends every day? Can’t you date someone properly? You’re a grown man, why are you still so immature!”
Yan Yifan played with a piece of fruit, casually moving the phone a bit away from his ear while nodding and “mhm-ing” continuously, not taking his brother’s nagging to heart at all.
Yan Zihua gave him a lecture and said: “Aren’t you writing novels on that website? It just so happens you can go into the film crew and learn how to be a screenwriter.”
Yan Yifan was startled: “Brother! Brother! Brother! Don’t! No one reads what I write! Netizens say it’s so cheesy! All the tips I get are from Lu Liming!”
Yan Zihua: “If no one reads it, why don’t you write properly? Every day you’re either browsing messy forums or making shady friends. Since you like writing this stuff, then write it well. As long as you can sign a contract with them, even if you earn only 30 yuan a month, your brother would be happy!”
Yan Yifan muttered under his breath: “Thirty yuan… that’s not even enough for my breakfast. Why should I put in so much effort?”
The moment he said this, it hit some nerve in Yan Zihua, who roared: “Report to the film crew tomorrow! An Shaotao is a gold-medal screenwriter! Learn from him properly! If you don’t learn the tricks of the trade, you’ll stay in Hengdian for the rest of your life!”
With that, ignoring Yan Yifan’s protests, he slammed the phone down, leaving Yan Yifan dazed in the wind.
Stay in Hengdian for life? Please no!
Yan Yifan quickly called his brother back, but the call was hung up immediately his brother rejected it! Heavens! Is there any older brother like this?!
Like a dead dog, Yan Yifan collapsed on the sofa. He really couldn’t understand his brother’s logic. He just wanted to be a useless, idle rich kid. What was wrong with that? Was it not allowed?
Yan Yifan opened his author management page. A row of unfinished “holes” (hiatused stories) was displayed below.
This author account was something Yan Yifan had opened out of boredom during university. Back then, he stumbled upon the site while reading novels and became obsessed. After reading countless books, he couldn’t suppress his excitement and opened his first “hole.” Because it was too melodramatic, it attracted countless mockers, and then he became famous. That’s right, it’s infamous. That book isn’t finished even now because of his “laziness cancer.” That’s just how he is: no outline, writing whatever comes to mind, with all sorts of bizarre plot twists; he loves digging holes but hates filling them.
Yan Yifan opened his latest book. He had already written 100,000 words before dropping it. He only posted one or two chapters a month, and more than half of the comments were cursing him. Yan Yifan didn’t care; he had money. Writing was purely out of boredom, and because he didn’t like being controlled, he never signed a contract with the site.
Now his brother wanted him to learn. Did he want him to sign with the site? Probably wanted him to have a career. His brother was a workaholic, so obsessive that he couldn’t stand the sight of Yan Yifan and would scold him whenever he caught him.
Yan Yifan had a bitter face, completely unwilling to move. He clicked on his own writing and started reading it; unexpectedly, he read with great interest. After a while, he hit the 100,000-word mark only to realize it was hiatused. Yan Yifan.
After struggling between getting up to write and continuing to play, Yan Yifan decisively closed the page and started browsing Taobao. Lollipops! Chocolate buy! Top-tier steak buy! The latest Nike sneakers! High-tech face steamers!
After “buy, buy, buying,” Yan Yifan’s mood indeed improved a lot.
Just as he was about to go to sleep, he remembered something and opened WeChat to message Shen Leilei: “Are you home?”
After a while, WeChat pinged. Yan Yifan opened it: “Just took a bath, I’m back.”
Yan Yifan: “That’s good. Did you have fun?”
Shen Leilei: “It was pretty good.”
Yan Yifan was typing: I’m going to sleep, goodnight~, but hadn’t sent it yet.
His girlfriend, Shen Leilei, sent a link: “I love this bag so much, hubby buy it for me please~
Yan Yifan opened the link and paid for her.
Shen Leilei: “So happy! Love you~”
Yan Yifan sent a smiley face. Shen Leilei gave him a mushy goodnight, and Yan Yifan turned off his phone to go to sleep.
Before sleeping, Yan Yifan tossed and turned, unable to rest. From time to time, he touched his phone and let out a magical, silly laugh.
Hehehehehehehehe~
