The Cutie Keeps Falling for the Wrong Girl [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 36.2
The past few days of intimacy had made her forget that gap. Faced with the question, she nodded hurriedly. “Mm.” She didn’t dare look at her. She walked over to the corner table, picked up a bottle of water, and took a sip, only for a body to press against her back.
“Li-li, I really don’t want to go to work,” Lu Huan whined, rubbing her face against the girl’s back.
Li Zhaodi noted the contrast. The woman was acting spoiled, her voice soft and sweet, a far cry from the cold professional on the phone just moments ago.
The realization made her stop drinking mid-sip.
“I should go take a shower. I have to be at the office soon,” Lu Huan said before heading into the bathroom.
Her back felt suddenly cold. Li Zhaodi stood there clutching the water bottle, unable to move for a long time.
After leaving the hotel, Lu Huan didn’t go straight to the office. She went home first to change into her professional suit before heading to work.
037 Elite Queen: Work for Me (Part 7)
“Little Li, why do you look like you’ve lost your soul again?” Old Zhao sat by the door, scrolling through videos while smoking. He looked up at the sound of footsteps and saw his apprentice arriving with a dazed, vacant expression.
“It’s nothing,” Li Zhaodi snapped out of it and gave her master a small smile. “I’m going to the back to organize the warehouse.”
“Oh,” Old Zhao nodded. He remembered something he wanted to ask, but she had already disappeared into the back.
When Lu Huan arrived at the office, she was immediately summoned to Pei Guolong’s office. The moment he saw her, his first question was: “How has the dating been going these past few days? If you have the time, focus more on the company’s affairs. There are a lot of things waiting for your attention.”
Didn’t you say you’d handle everything? Lu Huan wanted to retort. Unfortunately, the original “Pei Xuan” would never say such a thing, so she could only follow orders. “Yes, Father.”
Pei Guolong was always pleased by her submissive attitude. As he handed back the workload he had supposedly taken over, his smile became a bit more genuine. “Then get to work. I’ve already sent the documents to your secretary.”
“Yes,” Lu Huan said before exiting.
“President Pei,” Fei Tian approached, clutching a stack of files.
“Put them on my desk,” Lu Huan said, heading to the breakroom to brew a cup of coffee.
She had stayed up far too late with Li Zhaodi the night before, and Pei Guolong’s early call had been a rude awakening. She was exhausted, but with a mountain of work ahead, she had to maintain her “Ice Queen” persona.
She spent the entire morning buried in paperwork. By the time her stomach growled, she realized it was already noon. Her neck was stiff and aching; as she rubbed it, she picked up her phone. Not a single notification.
Thinking the girl might be busy, Lu Huan sent a message.
At the shop, Li Zhaodi was maintaining some tools. When her phone chimed, she paused for a split second, then continued her work without checking it.
“You got a message. Aren’t you going to look?” Old Zhao asked.
“I’ll look in a bit,” Li Zhaodi replied.
Old Zhao studied her suspiciously, sensing something was off. “Did you have a fight with that pretty sister of yours?”
Li Zhaodi’s hand faltered. She lowered her gaze and went back to work, giving a one-word answer: “No.”
This behavior was even more suspicious. “Then… did the pretty sister dump you?”
Li Zhaodi’s head snapped up to look at him, then she immediately looked back down, shaking her head in silence.
Unable to get a word out of her, Old Zhao sighed. His apprentice was perfect in every way—talented and hardworking—but when she chose to be, she was as tight-lipped as a sealed jar.
Lu Huan sat in the cafeteria, her brow furrowed as she stared at her phone. Still no reply.
The employees, who had been chatting and laughing, immediately stiffened and ate in silence when they saw the CEO enter. However, their eyes remained glued to her. They noticed she kept checking her phone with a troubled expression.
“Could it be that President Pei’s boyfriend isn’t replying to her?” someone whispered.
“No way,” another replied. “President Pei is a catch. If that man isn’t holding on tight, is he waiting for our CEO to beg him?”
“I can’t imagine someone as successful as her getting married and having kids. I can’t picture a powerful woman like President Pei playing the role of a traditional housewife.”
“Me neither.” They all sighed in unison.
By the time Lu Huan finished her meal, there was still no reply. She remembered the strange mood Li Zhaodi had been in when they parted that morning. She racked her brain, wondering if she had said or done something wrong.
Finally, unable to wait any longer, she called.
The phone rang for a long time before Li Zhaodi answered. “Li Zhaodi, are you busy?”
“No,” Li Zhaodi was sitting in a corner by the back door where her master couldn’t see her. Since it was her first time lying, her voice was shaky. “I… I was busy just then.”
Though they hadn’t known each other long, Lu Huan knew Li Zhaodi was too honest to be a good liar. She tapped her finger on the table. “You’re not replying to my messages. Do you not want to see me anymore?”
Li Zhaodi’s nose went sour, and her eyes instantly brimmed with tears. “I… I don’t… I do want to see you.”
Lu Huan looked calm on the outside, but she had been incredibly tense. She was terrified the girl would reject her again. At the beginning, a rejection would have just been a challenge to overcome. But after the past few days, she realized she had fallen deep.
Hearing the girl’s flustered tone, Lu Huan breathed a private sigh of relief. “I’ll… no, I’ll come find you after work.”
Li Zhaodi bit her lip and fell silent again.
“Speak to me,” Lu Huan pressed.
“Okay,” Li Zhaodi replied softly. She sat in the corner like a scolded puppy, her heart a mess. She was torn between the vast gap in their social status and her longing for the woman. The internal tug-of-war was painful.
As soon as she clocked out, Lu Huan drove straight to the shop. Just as she pulled up, Gao Heng’s name flashed on her screen. She was in a hurry to see Li Zhaodi, so her tone was impatient. “What is it?”
“Pei Xuan, your father is here with me. He wants you to come over for dinner,” Gao Heng said with a smug chuckle.
Lu Huan watched Li Zhaodi step out of the shop. She was about to roll down the window and call out to her when she heard Gao Heng’s words. Her brow darkened. “Young Master Gao, you…”
“Xuan-xuan, I heard from your secretary that you’ve already left the office,” Pei Guolong’s voice cut in. “You have nothing else to do at home. Come over and have dinner with Gao Heng.”
Lu Huan watched Li Zhaodi working nearby. She gritted her teeth. “What’s the address?”
“Hey, isn’t that your girlfriend? Why did she drive off without coming in?” Old Zhao looked up and saw the car window slide up as the beautiful woman drove away.
Li Zhaodi looked over and caught a glimpse of the license plate. She frowned.
When Lu Huan entered the private booth at the restaurant, Pei Guolong was nowhere to be seen. Her face turned cold as she looked at the only person in the room. “Young Master Gao, where is my father?”
Gao Heng smiled. “Your father just left. Since you’re here, sit down. Let’s eat.”
“No.”
“Don’t go,” Gao Heng said. “You wouldn’t want your father to find out that our relationship is just a business transaction, would you?”
“Are you threatening me?” Lu Huan’s eyes were like ice.
Even a seasoned playboy like Gao Heng felt a shiver. Unlike Pei Xuan, who had taken over the family business early, he spent his days fooling around. His grandfather wanted to find him a capable wife to manage the family estate, and he had always been indifferent—until he met Pei Xuan. He was becoming increasingly obsessed with her.
“What a way to put it, Miss Pei. This isn’t a threat; I just want to have a drink with you.” He poured two glasses of wine and handed one to her. “Miss Pei, a drink?”
Lu Huan looked at him, then at the glass. She took it. “I’m leaving after this one.”
Gao Heng grinned. “Deal.”
Something about his smile felt wrong, but Lu Huan was in such a rush to get to Li Zhaodi that she didn’t overthink it. She downed the wine and showed him the empty glass. “Done. Can I go now?”
“Wait a moment,” Gao Heng stopped her. He wasn’t about to let her leave yet—not after the effort he’d just put in. He stepped closer. “I wanted to discuss our deal. You know my grandfather is pushing for marriage, but I want to play around for a few more years. If I tell him the truth, he’ll break my legs. Could you talk to him? He listens to you.”
Lu Huan frowned, clearly disgusted by the request. “I’m not doing that for you.” Suddenly, her vision blurred. She stumbled.
Gao Heng moved to support her, but Lu Huan slapped his hand away and braced herself against a chair. She looked up, her voice freezing. “You drugged me?” She spoke through gritted teeth, her fierce expression momentarily intimidating him.
But he wasn’t going to waste this chance. “Pei Xuan, I had no choice. You’re so hard to get close to. I’ve asked you out so many times and you always refuse. I had to…”
“Heh,” Lu Huan let out a cold laugh. “So, you resort to such pathetic methods?”
Gao Heng shrugged with the expression of a shameless rogue.
Lu Huan bit her tongue hard to keep her mind sharp. She looked him in the eye. “Young Master Gao, you’d better watch yourself.” She turned and walked out, her back straight and proud. From the outside, no one could tell the agony she was in.
Gao Heng tried to block her, but Lu Huan kicked him aside with force. People were walking by in the hallway, so Gao Heng couldn’t risk making a scene. He cursed under his breath and retreated into the booth.
Lu Huan fought back the waves of heat surging through her body. Once she reached her car, her hands shook as she pulled out her phone to call Li Zhaodi. Her voice was weak. “Li Zhaodi… come get me.” She gasped out the address.
“What’s wrong?” Hearing the distress in her voice, Li Zhaodi panicked. She jumped up from her stool, knocking her tools to the floor. Ignoring the grease and dirt on her clothes, she bolted out of the shop.
“Li Zhaodi! Where are you going?” Old Zhao shouted after her.
But Li Zhaodi’s entire mind was on the woman on the other end of the line. She was frantic, yet she forced her voice to be steady for Lu Huan. “Wait for me. I’m coming right now.” She began frantically waving down a taxi.
