The Comments Section Said She Was My Wife - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
◎ Everyone advised her to find a girl to marry ◎
Chu Tang had never forgotten the first thing Xia Shi had ever said to her.
She had asked if Chu Tang knew how to wash clothes, cook, and warm the bed. The whole purpose of buying her was to have a wife. So, even though she was currently weak and the person before her seemed considerate and restrained, she could not ignore the possibility of something happening at any moment.
Chu Tang blinked and quickly averted her gaze, though her mind couldn’t help but produce many inappropriate thoughts…In the capital, there were many noble women, and delicate young ladies who did not care for coarse men often chose same-sex partners, it was not uncommon.
Among her close friends, two had chosen wives. It was said that they were usually very considerate of each other, living happily, and were quite satisfied with their intimacy at night.
Thanks to those two friends, Chu Tang knew more about the affairs between wives than the average sheltered daughter. The reason was simple: her two happily married friends wanted her to experience the same benefits and had both advised her to find a girl to marry.
In her current situation, it was a twist of fate that she had essentially followed their advice.
Chu Tang’s thoughts drifted away without her realizing it. When she came back to her senses, she discovered that Xia Shi had already dressed and gone outside. She turned her head to look, seeing that the door to the small hut was left slightly ajar, with a single, dazzling ray of morning light streaming through the gap into the room.
She had slept for a long time yesterday, so Chu Tang was not tired for the moment. Furthermore, since she had been asleep when Xia Shi carried her back, she didn’t know what it looked like outside. After a moment of thought, she finally pushed the quilt aside and got up.
When her bandaged feet touched the floor, she felt a sharp pain as expected. If it had been in the past, such pain would have been intolerable, but after the hardships of the journey to exile, this bit of pain seemed like nothing. Therefore, Chu Tang merely knitted her brows slightly, endured the pain, put on her worn-out shoes, and slowly stood up using the bed for support.
Just as she stood up and prepared to take a step, Xia Shi returned, holding a wooden basin. Seeing her up, she rushed over in a panic to support her: “Why did you get up? Be careful, the injuries on your feet haven’t healed yet.”
Xia Shi was very strong; with a hoist of Chu Tang’s arm, she felt the pressure on her feet diminish significantly.
Chu Tang pursed her lips, looked toward the door, and said, “I want to go out and get some fresh air.”
This was no great matter. Xia Shi looked her over and, seeing that her complexion was much better than yesterday and that she didn’t look like she couldn’t handle a breeze, she simply held the wooden basin in one hand, wrapped her other arm around Chu Tang’s waist, and lifted her up with one hand: “Then don’t let your feet touch the ground, I’ll carry you out.”
Chu Tang hadn’t expected her to be so strong. While slightly surprised, she subconsciously wrapped her arms around Xia Shi’s neck.
Xia Shi’s body stiffened; she was clearly unaccustomed to such intimacy, especially having her neck—a vital area, embraced. However, she quickly reasoned that being hugged by one’s wife was a matter of course, so her tense body relaxed.
She walked out with the basin in one hand and the woman in the other. Once outside, she realized the courtyard was empty and didn’t even have a stool; it was impossible for Chu Tang to stay in the courtyard without her feet touching the ground. She had no choice but to circle around to the nearby kitchen, set down the basin, and drag out a small stool to find a place for Chu Tang to rest.
She had been darting around like a headless fly, which allowed Chu Tang to see every corner of the small area.
From the moment she left the room, all Chu Tang could see was the dense mountain forest, with only a small path leading far down the mountain. The hut tucked into the mountain was quite primitive, consisting of only three rooms: their bedroom, the kitchen Xia Shi had carried her through earlier, and a third room that was locked, likely a warehouse or storage room.
Outside the three rooms was a small courtyard enclosed by a fence. It looked sturdier than the fences of most village households, likely designed to deter wild beasts. There were likely traps set outside the fence as well; otherwise, the fence alone would hardly be enough to block predators.
Additionally, there was a water vat in the courtyard, with a section of hollow bamboo slowly channeling water into it. Following the bamboo backward, she could vaguely see spring water trickling down the mountain wall, channeled by the bamboo, which saved the trouble of fetching water.
She had seen everything there was to see in the hunter’s primitive home, but fortunately, Chu Tang hadn’t had high expectations, so she felt no disappointment. Moreover, the little hunter was quite thoughtful, carrying her around just to find a stool for her to sit on. Finally, afraid she might feel cold in the mountain breeze, she specifically found a spot where she could sun herself before setting her down.
Chu Tang did not let the effort go to waste, obediently sitting in the sunlight before the door. The autumn sun was still fierce, but since it was only early morning, the warm light felt truly pleasant on her body.
The woman tilted her head slightly against the morning breeze. The bright sunlight shone upon her, making her porcelain-white skin appear as warm and translucent as jade.
Xia Shi stared, momentarily stunned. It was as if, at this very moment, she finally realized what a beauty her wife was. Her heart skipped a beat, and she froze at the kitchen door with the wooden basin in her hands.
It wasn’t until Chu Tang noticed her distraction and spoke that Xia Shi’s sanity was restored.
Xia Shi blinked uncomfortably and walked over with the basin: “Breakfast will take a while longer. Do you want to wash up first?”
Chu Tang instinctively looked down at her hands—she was naturally a clean person, but after more than half a month on the road to exile and being dragged about by traffickers, no matter how fastidious one was, it was impossible to be clean. Yet, looking at her palms and the backs of her hands, she discovered they were very clean, as if someone had already washed them.
She pondered, concluding that Xia Shi must have cleaned her after she fell asleep last night. Feeling a mixture of embarrassment and gratitude, she took the damp towel the hunter handed her and spoke in a low voice: “Thank you.”
Hearing her soft tone, Xia Shi felt her own heart soften as well, and she instinctively beamed.
Everything had been rushed yesterday, but now that Chu Tang looked closely, she realized that Xia Shi was not bad-looking at all, especially with the dimple that appeared when she smiled, which dissipated much of the hunter’s fierce aura. Furthermore, because there was no other place to sit, the hunter simply squatted down in front of her, and as she looked up with a smile, the entire person exuded a sense of naive silliness that made Chu Tang lower her defenses without reason.
After washing her face and wiping her neck, Chu Tang felt refreshed. However, remembering she hadn’t bathed properly in a month, she felt uncomfortable again. She hesitated, looking at Xia Shi with words stuck in her throat.
Fortunately, Xia Shi was observant and immediately asked: “What’s wrong? Is something the matter?”
Chu Tang bit her lip and whispered: “I haven’t bathed in a long time, and I…I would like to wash up.”
Xia Shi thought it was a big deal, but she naturally agreed to such a small request. She was halfway through nodding when she suddenly stopped, her gaze sweeping down to Chu Tang’s feet: “This…the injuries on your feet haven’t healed yet, so it’s best if you don’t get them wet for the next two days. How about I boil some hot water for you to wipe yourself down, and you can have a proper bath in a few days?”
Chu Tang understood her good intentions and had no objections. She thanked her again and watched as Xia Shi poured out the water and went back with the basin. Then, she turned around, and the hunter returned, holding a bowl.
The bowl contained neither medicine nor porridge, but honey water: “It will take a while to get the fire going and cook breakfast. Drink this honey water to sweeten your mouth first. I heard honey is very nourishing. Your body is weak, so eat more.”
Honey was not easy to obtain. To her former life in the Minister’s mansion, it would have been nothing, but for a little hunter, collecting honey must have been extremely dangerous.
Before Chu Tang could say anything, Xia Shi shoved the bowl into her hands and left. Soon, the scent of cooking smoke filled the air—Xia Shi was starting the fire to cook. After breakfast, she would still have to brew medicine, meaning she would spend the entire morning on Chu Tang.
Chu Tang felt she was causing a lot of trouble, unaware that Xia Shi was enjoying herself, running in and out of the kitchen—who would understand? Waking up to find a warm wife in her arms, being able to carry her wife out to sunbathe, and preparing food and drink for her, every minute seemed to become meaningful. Even if her wife didn’t say much now, it was just because they weren’t close yet. Once they were familiar, she would definitely receive a response!
From the moment Xia Shi entered the kitchen, she couldn’t stop smiling. She ladled water to boil a pot of porridge, and worrying it would be too plain, she sliced up some smoked meat and added it in. When the aroma of the meat emerged, she still felt it wasn’t enough, so she went out to the mountain slopes to find some wild vegetables, which she washed and chopped to add to the pot.
However, since she had a wife, life could not be as haphazard as it was before; she would have to find time to cultivate a vegetable garden.
Chu Tang watched her run back and forth, and for some reason, the pent-up frustration in her heart dissipated significantly. She sat in the courtyard with her knees tucked to her chest, facing the morning sun and the morning breeze, her expression gradually becoming relaxed.
Twenty minutes later, Xia Shi brought out a bowl of porridge, excitedly offering it to her: “Here, try it. Today’s is meat and vegetable porridge.”
