The Cold Sister Is Too Flirtatious - Chapter 8
Determined not to waste her advance tickets, Leng Yao checked the amusement park map to find the Ferris wheel.
After walking for half an hour, she spotted the ice cream stall for the third time.
“I get it now!” Leng Yao’s eyes lit up. “Older Sister, this is fate telling us to have ice cream. We can’t defy fate, let’s go, let’s go!”
Hearing the unfamiliar term, Lin Tingxue asked, “What is this ‘ice cream’?”
“It’s something even better than fruit tea! And… and it’s also what accidentally dripped on your leg earlier.”
As Leng Yao finished speaking, her mouth suddenly felt dry. She stopped talking and tugged Lin Tingxue toward the stall.
The stall owner, a young Turkish man, greeted them in somewhat broken Chinese. “Hello! Milk flavor or peach flavor?”
Leng Yao, already plotting a little trick to swap flavors with Lin Tingxue later, replied, “One of each, please.”
Turkish ice cream, made from mountain milk, is stickier than regular ice cream. The vendor’s playful interactions with customers are a major selling point.
The vendor extended his long ice cream spoon toward Leng Yao. She reached out, but he quickly withdrew it, revealing two cones. Leng Yao was left holding only an empty one.
Grinning mischievously, the vendor twirled the spoon behind Leng Yao’s head. She tried to grab it, but her hand closed on air.
After teasing her a few more times, the vendor finally handed Leng Yao the peach-flavored ice cream.
Next, he moved on to the milk-flavored ice cream. He asked Lin Tingxue to hold the empty cone while he scooped.
This scoop was enormous, taking all the remaining ice cream. The vendor smiled and extended it, intending only to touch the cone before pulling back.
But suddenly, a chill ran down his neck. The girl before him, her face as cold as ice, was glaring at him with a warning look.
His hand trembled, and the entire scoop of ice cream landed in Lin Tingxue’s cone.
Lin Tingxue immediately turned to leave with Leng Yao.
Startled, Leng Yao quickly said, “Older Sister, Turkish ice cream is about the vendor’s interactions with customers. We can’t just take it all! We have to give it back.”
Realizing it was just part of the performance, Lin Tingxue nodded in understanding.
The Turkish vendor, sweating profusely, extended his long spoon and retrieved the ice cream back into the cart.
That was close! I almost lost all my ice cream for the day.
To thank Lin Tingxue for returning the ice cream, the vendor made her a special double-scoop cone.
Lin Tingxue stopped the worker’s hand. “No need,” she said. “Just the usual is fine.”
Not taking even the slightest advantage, fair and just as always. That’s Lin Tingxue for you.
After getting their ice cream, Leng Yao led the way.
Gazing up at the massive Ferris wheel, Leng Yao exclaimed happily, “Older Sister, I told you! Heaven wanted us to have ice cream. We found it right after!”
Lin Tingxue nodded, and the path behind them, which had been altered by spiritual energy, returned to its original state.
Leng Yao still felt a pang of regret. She had suggested swapping ice cream flavors with her sister earlier, but Lin Tingxue had insisted on turning back to buy her another cone instead.
Older Sister, it’s not about wanting a different flavor! I wanted to taste yours, the one you were eating… Waaah!
The Ferris wheel had just started operating but hadn’t officially opened yet. Still, every gondola was already filled with couples. Today was Qixi Festival, and everyone was drawn to the Ferris wheel’s romantic legend.
Amidst envious and resentful stares, the two bypassed the long line through the express lane. Guided by a staff member, they were the first to board the Ferris wheel.
Seated side by side, they watched as the Ferris wheel slowly rotated, their view climbing higher and higher.
Leng Yao was bursting with excitement. She first snapped numerous photos of Lin Tingxue, then began taking aerial shots of the amusement park below.
Despite her fear of heights—her legs trembled so badly she had to cling to Lin Tingxue’s waist—she insisted on standing to get better angles.
Lin Tingxue found the Ferris wheel underwhelming, its height far below what she was used to when flying on her sword. Though there were no spiritual swords here, she could forge one if the little rabbit wanted, and they could fly together.
Leng Yao, still entranced by the beautiful scenery, didn’t notice as the Ferris wheel reached its peak, offering a clear view of the Pearl Tower across the river.
Pointing at the tower’s spire, Leng Yao exclaimed excitedly, “Older Sister, we’re at the very top!”
Suddenly, her waist was pulled, and she tumbled into a warm embrace. Lin Tingxue leaned in and kissed her.
The peach and milk flavors from their earlier ice cream lingered, passing between their soft lips.
Leng Yao hadn’t expected to taste her older sister’s ice cream in such an intimate way.
What did those yuri novels say? Ah, yes—stick out your tongue!
Leng Yao tentatively extended her tongue, barely touching Lin Tingxue’s lips, when Lin Tingxue pulled back and released her.
While Leng Yao’s cheeks flushed crimson, Lin Tingxue’s expression remained unchanged. “Now,” she said, her voice utterly earnest, “you can be happy for the rest of your life.”
She spoke with unwavering sincerity, as if this kiss were solely to fulfill that heartfelt wish.
Leng Yao didn’t know whether to feel sad or happy. Sad that Lin Tingxue hadn’t kissed her out of affection, yet happy that she had kissed her out of a desire for her happiness.
At the Ferris wheel’s peak, the gondola paused for five minutes, allowing couples to exchange vows or take photos.
For Leng Yao, however, this moment felt excruciating. Trapped in the enclosed space, she longed to escape, yet joy and sorrow intertwined, holding her captive.
Though Lin Tingxue was often oblivious, she sensed Leng Yao’s deepening gloom. Yet she couldn’t fathom why Leng Yao was so downcast.
Hadn’t she followed that person’s advice? Shouldn’t the little rabbit be happy now?
Or did it need to happen again? Lin Tingxue reached out, pulling the standing Leng Yao back into her arms. She lowered her head to kiss her, but Leng Yao blocked her with a hand. “Older Sister, it’s no use. Those words are a lie.”
Thump-thump-thump!
Each beat grew heavier. Leng Yao, nestled against Lin Tingxue’s chest, felt the vibrations resonate through her, the older woman’s surging heartbeat pulsing against her.
Leng Yao’s eyes widened. This heartbeat… So Older Sister isn’t indifferent to me after all?
Perhaps she’s simply accustomed to her cold expression, or perhaps her years of solitary cultivation have left her unable to understand emotions.
Suddenly elated, Leng Yao cupped Lin Tingxue’s face and pecked her cheek.
“Didn’t you say those words were a lie?”
Lin Tingxue stared at her in astonishment. Though she could have easily stopped Leng Yao, her hands remained motionless at her sides.
Frowning, she wondered why her heart was racing faster and faster. Could her recent cultivation have gone awry?
Leng Yao immediately regretted speaking so hastily. If she hadn’t, she could have used this excuse to continue deceiving her older sister.
But then, Lin Tingxue suddenly clutched her chest and began meditating to cultivate.
Seeing this, Leng Yao covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. So, Older Sister knows too.
Leng Yao, keep going! You’re almost there!
Lin Tingxue found the Ferris wheel interesting only at its peak; the rest was utterly boring. She held no expectations for the next attraction Leng Yao introduced.
“Aaaaaah! Mommy!”
The roller coaster riders’ terrified screams echoed through the air. Lin Tingxue watched the trembling legs of the disembarking passengers, utterly baffled by why mortals in this world enjoyed spending spirit stones to scare themselves.
When it was their turn, all the other seats were taken, leaving only the front row.
Leng Yao had initially intended to scare Lin Tingxue, but now she couldn’t help feeling a little frightened herself.
The front row.
Lin Tingxue, however, sat down decisively, leaving Leng Yao no choice but to follow suit.
After the staff checked their safety harnesses, they glanced at the pair, their eyes lingering on their striking appearances. “If you’re scared, shouting will help,” the staff member advised.
Inside the car, the rabbit-like girl was frantically swallowing, while the cool-faced girl beside her stared straight ahead. It was impossible to tell who would scream first.
The staff soon found out.
As the roller coaster lurched upward, Leng Yao’s terrified scream echoed across the entire amusement park:
“Older Sister!”
The coaster twisted, climbed, and plunged. In the front row, they watched themselves being slowly lifted to the peak, lingering for a moment before plummeting down, the wind rushing into their lungs.
The ride ended quickly, and the staff moved to release the safety harnesses. As expected, the rabbit-like girl’s eyes were red-rimmed from fear. Beside her, the cool-faced girl’s expression finally shifted, her eyes now gleaming with suppressed excitement.
?
Lin Tingxue immediately rejoined the end of the line. “Again,” she said, her voice flat and even. But from the words alone, Leng Yao knew she loved the roller coaster.
Leng Yao’s heart fluttered with joy, but her legs trembled so badly she couldn’t possibly go again. “Older Sister, you go ahead. I’ll rest here for a bit.”
Leng Yao rested on the long bench for a while. It was Qixi Festival, and the lines for all the rides were long. The sky was gradually darkening.
After resting, Leng Yao went to the roller coaster’s photo booth. There, videos of the ride were available. By logging in and selecting the time slot, she could find her own video.
Clicking on the preview showed only the beginning. The full version required a purchase of fifty yuan.
Eager to see it, Leng Yao paid and immediately opened the video. Throughout the entire ride, Lin Tingxue maintained a single expression. If the roller coaster hadn’t been moving, Leng Yao would have thought she’d bought a still photo.
But Older Sister looks so beautiful! Leng Yao thought. I’ve never seen anyone keep their composure on a roller coaster before.
In contrast, Leng Yao’s video confirmed it wasn’t a photo. Her mouth was wide open, her eyes squeezed shut, and she was screaming her lungs out.
She covered her face, mortified. How ugly!
But why could she still hear her own screams? During the haunted house, Older Sister had used a spell to silence her.
Miss, if you’re scared, shouting loudly will help.
The staff member’s words suddenly echoed in her mind. Is Older Sister letting me scream because she cares about me?
Leng Yao was still basking in happiness when terrified screams erupted outside. She rushed out to investigate.
The roller coaster had malfunctioned and was suspended upside down halfway through a loop. The passengers were hanging headfirst, some already flushed with blood rushing to their faces.
Leng Yao sprinted to the control room. “My older sister is still up there! You need to do something!”
The staff member was sweating profusely, caught completely off guard by the sudden power outage. Even the backup batteries refused to activate.
Maintenance workers were on their way, but how long could the passengers endure hanging upside down?
He was just a regular operator, with no technical expertise. All he could do was reassure the frantic girl before him. “The backup power won’t start, but my colleagues are coming. Your sister will be safe.”
Leng Yao took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. “I’ll fix it.”
“You?” The staff member was astonished, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He unlocked the metal cabinet revealing the backup batteries.
Leng Yao had never worked on amusement park power systems before. But since childhood, she’d loved tinkering with circuits, having taken apart the family TV and refrigerator more than once.
She opened the battery compartment and began inspecting the connections, but she couldn’t find the problem quickly enough. If only her older sister were here.
“Oh my god!”
Another wave of screams erupted from outside as the roller coaster lurched into motion, rounding the loop. Though still stuck on the next section of track, at least the passengers were no longer hanging upside down, giving them ample time to await rescue.
Leng Yao breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness the coaster moved on its own, she thought. That gives me more time to find the problem.
Fine beads of sweat dotted her forehead as she focused intently, scanning the tangled web of wires.
I have to hurry. I need to save my older sister.
Her eyes suddenly locked onto a frayed wire. The plastic insulation had crumbled away, exposing the bare metal strands, which were now touching other wires.
Found it!
Leng Yao’s hands trembled uncontrollably, but she forced herself to remain calm.
Using a snapped-off tree branch, she tried to pry the exposed wire away. But this was the main power line for the entire amusement park. Even with the makeshift insulator, sparks flew, and Leng Yao’s hand was jolted by the electricity. The pain nearly paralyzed her, yet she refused to drop the branch, gritting her teeth and pressing on.
Just as the park had been plunged into darkness, all the lights suddenly blazed back to life.
Leng Yao looked up through the glass window of the control room at the towering roller coaster.
The coaster was now flashing with colorful lights, an unimaginable contrast to the life-or-death ordeal its passengers were enduring.
The button.
With a slow, steady rumble, the roller coaster began to move, its wheels turning to the cheers of the crowd.
Just as the roller coaster was nearing the end, the last car suddenly detached. Seated there were ten-year-old twin sisters. Today was their birthday, and they had finally met the age requirement for the ride.
Now, they screamed in terror as the uncontrollable sensation of weightlessness surged around them from all directions.
The amusement park lights flickered erratically, then plunged into darkness.
