The Cold Sister Is Too Flirtatious - Chapter 7
Leng Yao’s answer caught Lin Tingxue completely off guard. She had heard Leng Yao say “I like you” countless times before.
But tonight, Leng Yao seemed different. Even though her answer defied everything Lin Tingxue had ever believed, she found herself strangely accepting it.
Having lived for over four centuries, Lin Tingxue had never understood what “liking” meant. She had always considered it a superfluous emotion that would only hinder her cultivation progress.
Was Leng Yao’s liking really any different? Lin Tingxue wondered.
Perhaps, maybe, possibly… Lin Tingxue thought, but the words felt superfluous.
For the first time, Lin Tingxue couldn’t give herself a definitive answer.
Leng Yao’s emotions faded quickly. She immediately plunged back into the ocean of knowledge, nearly drowning before scrambling ashore and eagerly guiding Lin Tingxue.
Lin Tingxue rested her head in her hand, nodding at everything Leng Yao said, even when she was wrong. The problems were too simple, yet Leng Yao stumbled through her explanations. But for some reason, when the little rabbit acted foolish, Lin Tingxue didn’t feel the same disdain she usually reserved for sword-wielding brats.
It’s actually quite amusing when she acts a little silly.
“Older Sister, do you understand now? You can solve it like this from now on.”
As if possessed, Lin Tingxue shook her head. “I don’t understand this part.“
“Where? Where? Show me, Older Sister!” Leng Yao’s face lit up with excitement. My all-knowing Older Sister actually has a question! Time to show her the brilliance of my mind!
“Okay.”
Lin Tingxue grasped Leng Yao’s hand and pointed to a spot. Leng Yao shyly tried to pull away, but Lin Tingxue’s grip tightened.
She couldn’t help but stare at Lin Tingxue’s fingers—long and slender, especially the index and middle fingers, with rounded, clean nails tinged a delicate pink.
They must feel so good…
Leng Yao’s face flushed crimson instantly. She shook her head vigorously, her low-slung pigtails trembling with the motion.
What kind of R-rated BL novels haven’t I read? she thought. But I’ve only read one yuri novel, and that was after my older sister came to the modern world. I bought it to study, just in case… you know, in case I ever needed to use it with her.
It’s all my fault for sneaking a peek at that stuff last night. Now I’m having these weird thoughts.
Leng Yao couldn’t resist stealing another glance at Lin Tingxue’s hand, but found it had already been withdrawn. A pang of disappointment struck her heart as she turned her attention back to the problem, determined to solve it.
Ten minutes later, Leng Yao’s eyes glazed over. The once-orderly problem now seemed to be snarling and clawing at her.
Why is this question so hard?! It’s just an extra practice problem in the workbook! How am I supposed to impress my older sister like this?
Seeing the distressed little rabbit, Lin Tingxue re-examined the problem. It was quite simple.
Noticing Leng Yao’s struggle, Lin Tingxue casually asked about a few formulas, “I don’t understand these either.“
This is easy! Leng Yao finally encountered something she knew well and eagerly explained it to Lin Tingxue.
After finishing the explanation, she returned to tackling the difficult problem. Wait a minute… this problem can’t be solved using those formulas we just reviewed.
Five minutes later…
Leng Yao’s eyes sparkled. I actually finished explaining it! I’m amazing, practically a genius! Seeing Lin Tingxue nod, she felt even more proud. Now Older Sister won’t fail the exam.
She carefully put away her notes, stifled a small yawn, and tidied up before getting into bed.
After undoing her twin buns, her hair automatically curled into soft waves.
Summoning her courage, she compared Lin Tingxue’s hair to her own. “Older Sister, your hair is so well-maintained. Promise me you won’t cut it.“
A sudden thought struck her. “Older Sister, you’re over four hundred years old. Have you ever cut your hair?”
“No. Our bodies and hair are gifts from our parents.”
“Then shouldn’t your hair be long enough to drag on the floor?”
Lin Tingxue shook her head. “I was too playful. When I was eighteen, I accidentally ingested a Youth Preservation Pill. Since then, my appearance has been frozen. Even after cultivating to the Nascent Soul stage, nothing changed.”
Looking at her older sister’s cold expression, Leng Yao couldn’t reconcile it with the idea of her being playful.
This means Older Sister’s body is still that of an eighteen-year-old. In a way, she’s even younger than my twenty-year-old self.
Aaaaaah! What a delightful setup!
Leng Yao, her face flushed, boldly tried her luck. “Alright, you have to call me ‘Older Sister’.“
Lin Tingxue didn’t hesitate for a moment. “Older Sister.“
She didn’t understand Leng Yao’s logic, but she knew that in this world, Leng Yao understood many things. Moreover, Leng Yao would never harm her.
Jesus, Buddha, Holy Mary!
I’m dead!
Leng Yao felt a warm liquid trickle from her nose. She really couldn’t handle such an electrifying title.
“I got it backwards. I should be calling you ‘Older Sister’.“
Hasn’t she always called me ‘Older Sister’? Why emphasize it again? Does she want my formal acknowledgment?
Lin Tingxue reached out and tapped Leng Yao’s nose, stopping the little rabbit’s nosebleed. “Very well, I grant you permission.“
Leng Yao stared blankly at Lin Tingxue, inexplicably seeing tenderness in her icy demeanor.
The word “grant” placed herself in a lower position, yet Leng Yao naturally felt that her Older Sister should be above her, while she herself longed for the Immortal’s favor.
“Older Sister,” Leng Yao murmured, opening her mouth but only managing to utter the title.
“What is it?”
“I like you so much.“
“I know.”
“Older Sister, I’m over here!“
It was another weekend, and because Lin Tingxue had previously admitted to being playful, Leng Yao had brought her to the amusement park.
Leng Yao watched Lin Tingxue weave through the crowd. Today was Qixi Festival, and the park was filled with sweet, lovey-dovey couples.
Despite the crowds, Lin Tingxue moved with uncanny precision, avoiding collisions. When someone nearly bumped into her, they were inexplicably shoved aside by an invisible force, colliding instead with another person’s shoulder.
Others remained oblivious, but Leng Yao shook her head, muttering under her breath, “Older Sister, you’re secretly using your spiritual energy again!“
“I don’t like being touched by others.”
Knowing Lin Tingxue’s personality, Leng Yao sighed but still pulled a bear-ear headband from her bag. A three-dimensional red heart was positioned between the ears.
She stood on tiptoe and placed the headband on Lin Tingxue’s head. “Everyone here wears these.“
Lin Tingxue glanced around and saw that it was indeed true—men and women alike wore animal-ear headbands, some with bear ears, others with rabbit ears.
Leng Yao’s mind was a complete blank. That little rabbit is going to get kicked out, the poor confused thing.
“Where are they selling these?”
“Does Older Sister like other styles? I’ll take you there right away.”
At the entrance of the gift shop, a girl in a mascot costume waved to the tourists.
Leng Yao and Lin Tingxue went inside, heading straight for the headband section.
Lin Tingxue noticed the pink, fluffy headband, but everyone in the amusement park was wearing bear or rabbit ears.
So, Lin Tingxue naturally picked up a rabbit ear headband and placed it on Leng Yao’s head, carefully adjusting it until the pink heart sat perfectly centered.
For some reason, looking at the soft, fragrant Leng Yao, Lin Tingxue had the strange feeling that these rabbit ears were her true form.
She gripped Leng Yao’s wrist and examined it again, but found nothing. Could she really not be a rabbit spirit?
Meanwhile, the rabbit in question wanted to reach up and touch the headband, but she couldn’t bear to move while Lin Tingxue was holding her wrist. She was torn.
Older Sister and I are wearing matching headbands!
Earlier, Leng Yao had only bought one headband because she was worried Lin Tingxue wouldn’t like it, and she also wanted to see the bear-eared girl again.
But now, Older Sister, you took the initiative!
Leng Yao floated to the cashier, paying without even noticing where she was going. When she finally snapped out of her daze, she found herself face-to-face with a ghost covered in blood.
“Aaaaaaaah!“
The scream cut off abruptly as Lin Tingxue cast a Speech-Sealing Art.
“My apologies, young lady,” the staff member said. “I got too close and startled you.”
The staff had assumed anyone visiting a haunted house must be fearless. But this young woman was so sweet and adorable, they’d wanted to interact with her.
Leng Yao shook her head, wanting to say it was fine, but unable to speak, she could only look at Lin Tingxue with pleading eyes.
“She was startled,” Lin Tingxue said bluntly, never one for tact.
Having twisted his ankle during the previous chase, the staff member limped slightly as he pulled out two tickets. “I’m truly sorry. As an apology, here are early access tickets for the Ferris wheel. They’re on us.”
Lin Tingxue took the tickets, noticing Leng Yao still tugging persistently at her sleeve. She released the Speech-Sealing Art.
Regaining her voice, Leng Yao immediately began bowing frantically, apologizing profusely. “I’m so sorry! I was just lost in thought—it wasn’t your fault at all. My older sister is just blunt; she didn’t mean to give you trouble. Here, take the tickets back.”
Leng Yao reached for the tickets in Lin Tingxue’s hand, but found she couldn’t budge them.
Lin Tingxue was puzzled. In her mind, once a gift was given, it couldn’t be taken back.
It was all a misunderstanding. The staff member waved his hand with a smile, the corners of his mouth curving into an unsettling arc. Though meant to be friendly, the gesture sent shivers down Leng Yao’s spine.
“The tickets have already been given to you. Please keep them. I know she meant no harm. Besides, kissing at the very top of the Ferris wheel is said to bring a lifetime of happiness.”
The staff member could tell Lin Tingxue had no ill intentions. She wasn’t the type to deliberately make things difficult for visitors.
“We’re not…” Leng Yao began to protest, but Lin Tingxue grasped her hand and pulled her deeper into the haunted house.
Under the flickering, ghastly white lights, the staff member watched them go. The couple’s headbands were a special Valentine’s Day item, known to all who entered the park. Modern China was far more open-minded than before, with no longer any discrimination against same-sex couples.
The taller, seemingly dominant girl hadn’t actually restrained the petite one at all.
The staff member chuckled and turned to greet the next group of visitors, oblivious to the faint, starlike glimmers of spiritual energy flickering around his feet.
Having completed its task, the spiritual energy returned to Lin Tingxue’s side, circling her fingertip in a show of affection before being absorbed back into her.
The mortal woman understood the etiquette—gifts shouldn’t be returned. But since she had received one, she felt obligated to reciprocate.
In the darkness, Leng Yao’s hesitant voice broke the silence beside her. “Older Sister, don’t you dislike being touched? Why did you take my hand?”
“Because you were scared.“
Dislike was one thing; helping the vulnerable was another.
What a timid little rabbit.
Lin Tingxue tightened her grip on Leng Yao’s hand.
For Leng Yao, the rest of the haunted house journey lost all its terror. It became a romantic adventure with her older sister.
When a chainsaw-wielding ghoul suddenly lunged out, she could feign fear and hide in her sister’s arms.
When a living corpse sat up in its coffin, she could whimper and pretend to cry, basking in her sister’s comforting strokes with a clear conscience.
Emerging from the haunted house into the blinding sunlight, Leng Yao felt as if she had returned from another world, still wanting more.
My sister is so gullible, Leng Yao thought, burying her face to stifle her trembling laughter.
Watching Leng Yao cling to her, shivering from “fear,” Lin Tingxue wondered, Has this rabbit always been this timid?
Her past experiences cultivating abroad told her something was amiss, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
