The Cold Sister Is Too Flirtatious - Chapter 3
“Certainly, I’ll process your transaction right away.”
Even the seasoned sales assistant was visibly surprised. Obtaining a black card required a minimum deposit of five million yuan. Leng Yao’s wallet lay openly on the counter, and the sales assistant couldn’t help but glance inside. It seemed to contain more than one black card.
This was a stinging blow to Bai Chacha, who stood nearby, speechless with rage, her face twisted into a look of utter humiliation.
After buying the clothes, Leng Yao wanted to get Lin Tingxue a new phone. Without one, she couldn’t stay in constant contact with her sister. She feared Lin Tingxue might suddenly appear and disappear again, just like before.
As Leng Yao reached for the door, another hand brushed past her shoulder, effortlessly pushing it open.
“Not leaving yet? Did you forget something?”
Lin Tingxue had noticed Leng Yao struggling with the door earlier and had hurried forward to help the petite girl.
Leng Yao shook her head repeatedly and stepped outside. “Thank you, Sister.”
Lin Tingxue followed closely behind, releasing the metal door handle.
“Ah! Didn’t you see someone behind you?!” Bai Chacha shrieked, a red mark blooming on her cheek. Her foundation and lipstick smeared across the glass door.
The phone store was just a short ride away from the clothing boutique. Leng Yao arrived quickly.
To prevent Lin Tingxue from causing any further trouble, Leng Yao began chattering outside the store: “Sister, I’m going to buy you a phone.”
“Roast chicken?”
Lin Tingxue declined the offer. “I can abstain from grains. I don’t need to eat.”
Leng Yao burst out laughing. “I didn’t explain properly. A phone is like a communication tool—you can talk, take pictures…”
“Oh, right!” Remembering Immortal Cloud, Leng Yao gave Lin Tingxue an example. “It’s like the Sound Transmission Paper Cranes and Image Recording Pearls from your Cultivation World.”
Though Lin Tingxue hadn’t used these items often, she had used them a few times and quickly understood Leng Yao’s meaning.
Satisfied that Lin Tingxue understood enough to avoid any mishaps, Leng Yao confidently led her into the phone store.
“Sir, we’d like to see the latest Lychee 15.”
“It’s roast chicken,” Lin Tingxue corrected from beside her.
Realizing Lin Tingxue didn’t know the brand name, Leng Yao didn’t bother explaining. She simply smiled and said, “Yes, roast chicken.”
The shopkeeper retrieved a rose-pink Lychee 15 from the counter. “This color is really popular with girls these days,” he said. “This is a demo unit, feel free to try it out. If you like it, you can take it home with a SIM card today.”
Lin Tingxue frowned slightly, finding the process tedious. “So, before you can buy a roast chicken, you have to raise the chicken first?”
“Sister, let’s just look at the roast chicken first. It won’t take long,” Leng Yao said, noticing Lin Tingxue’s subtle shift in expression. While Lin Tingxue grew impatient, Leng Yao found her idol even more endearing.
Leng Yao expertly navigated the home screen, testing the smoothness of the left and right swipes. She then opened WeChat and found a virtual conversation interface.
Pressing the voice recording button, she said with cheerful energy, “Sister and I are the perfect match!”
Tapping the play button, the phone replayed Leng Yao’s sweet voice.
“This roast chicken won’t do.”
Leng Yao couldn’t understand Lin Tingxue’s dissatisfaction. “Why not?”
“Sound Transmission Paper Cranes self-destruct after delivering their message to prevent eavesdropping. This roast chicken doesn’t meet the standard.”
This was easily resolved.
Leng Yao long-pressed the voice message and tapped “Recall.” “See, Sister? It’s gone now. Our Sound Transmission Paper Cranes aren’t as advanced as those in the Cultivation World—they need to self-destruct.”
Seeing that Lin Tingxue had no further objections, Leng Yao called the shopkeeper over to process the payment by card.
The shopkeeper nodded, preparing to fetch a new phone in rose pink.
But Leng Yao stopped him. “Sir, could you also get one in black? The pink one is for me, and the black one is for my sister.”
Lin Tingxue had never liked rose pink anyway, so she was pleased when Leng Yao offered to switch to black. Such a perceptive little bunny, she thought.
As Leng Yao set up the family plan with Lin Tingxue’s number, the shopkeeper’s gaze turned peculiar. The taller girl looked like an adult, so it was odd that her younger sister was paying for the phone, let alone covering her monthly expenses.
Leng Yao, oblivious to the shopkeeper’s scrutiny, remained lost in her own blissful world. A family plan with my sister! Does this mean I can finally get her on my family registry?!
With all their purchases secured, Leng Yao initially planned to head straight home. But then she spotted the bustling milk tea shop near the school entrance, its large banner proclaiming: New Flavors! Come Try Them!
She eagerly dragged Lin Tingxue over to buy milk tea.
When their turn finally came, the shop assistant said, “We’re running a promotion today—couples get buy-one-get-one-free! If you have a boyfriend, you can have him buy it for you.”
Despite having devoured countless steamy novels, Leng Yao was still a pitiful, lifelong single.
The buy-one-get-one-free deal was gone.
Leng Yao had always adhered to the principle of saving where she could and spending where she should. Her expression was visibly disappointed. “I don’t have a boyfriend.”
“Would a girlfriend work?” Lin Tingxue asked, stepping closer to Leng Yao. She just couldn’t bear to see this sunny little bunny looking so downcast—it was an ugly sight.
“Y-yes, that works,” the shop assistant stammered. “I’ll take your order right away. Two Berry Berry Love drinks.”
After the fruit teas were prepared, the shop assistant handed them to the pair with a soft blessing: “No matter how tough things get, you two deserve to be happy.”
Leng Yao remained silent the entire walk back.
Lin Tingxue found this odd—it wasn’t like her at all. Could it be because she hadn’t put her arm around her waist?
Oh, whoops.
“Human rules are such a pain.”
Feeling two arms suddenly wrap around her waist, Leng Yao, whose cheeks were already flushed crimson, jumped in surprise. “S-Sister!”
“Hmm?”
That single, questioning hum sounded impossibly beautiful to Leng Yao’s ears. Summoning her courage, she asked, “Do you… do you like me?”
Like her? Lin Tingxue wasn’t sure. She answered honestly, sharing her true feelings.
“I don’t dislike you.”
The courage Leng Yao had painstakingly mustered deflated like a punctured balloon. She’s just trying not to disappoint me. She’s lying. I’m overthinking this.
Realizing her previous answer wasn’t complete, Lin Tingxue thought carefully before adding, “But among all the people I know, I feel most comfortable being close to you.”
The balloon reinflated with a rush. As the foremost figure in the Cultivation World, Lin Tingxue had lived for over four centuries. In all that time, she’d met countless people, yet she said she felt most comfortable being close to me! Stop being such a coward, Leng Yao! Just go for it!
The two swiped their campus cards and passed through the security gate without a hitch.
The security guard watched Lin Tingxue’s retreating figure, puzzled. “That student is so striking… how have I never noticed her before? Hey! You boy climbing the wall! Get down here!”
Back in her dorm room, Leng Yao immediately cranked up the air conditioner.
Beep beep beep beep beep beep—
She set the temperature to its lowest setting.
Opening the refrigerator, she stuck her head inside. “Ah, this is heaven! It’s scorching out there!”
When Leng Yao pulled her head out and closed the fridge, she noticed Lin Tingxue staring at her. Her gaze wasn’t strange, just a tentative question: “Should I do that too?”
Leng Yao belatedly realized she’d just made a fool of herself in front of her idol. She sat down next to Lin Tingxue. “No, no need.”
She pulled out her fruit tea, stuck in a straw, and took a long, satisfied sip. The icy coolness, combined with the unique freshness of blueberries and strawberries perfectly complementing the jasmine tea, lived up to its reputation as a must-try new item.
“It’s delicious! Sister, you have to try it.”
“Okay.”
Under Leng Yao’s watchful gaze, Lin Tingxue lowered her head and took a sip of the Berry Berry Double Love from Leng Yao’s hand.
! I just indirectly kissed my idol!
Lin Tingxue wasn’t sure why Leng Yao had offered her the fruit tea, but she figured she should follow the rules of this world. If the little bunny said so, there must be a good reason.
Leng Yao’s heart soared. She stuck a straw into a fresh cup and handed it to Lin Tingxue. “Here, Sister, drink this one.”
Lin Tingxue took a sip, then pointed to the fruit tea in Leng Yao’s hand. “This one’s sweeter. I want this one.”
The label on Lin Tingxue’s drink indicated it was made with half the usual amount of sugar, while Leng Yao’s was full-sugar. She had assumed her sister preferred less sweet drinks.
Sister, don’t say things that could be misinterpreted! My heart’s going to flutter! Take it! Take it all! I’d pluck the stars from the sky for you!
The mental comments were still flooding Leng Yao’s mind when Lin Tingxue realized her words had been inappropriate. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have taken what you liked. I haven’t interacted with people much. If I’ve offended you, you can attack me with your spiritual energy. I’m sorry, I forgot you don’t have any cultivation.”
Spiritual energy gathered and struck Lin Tingxue, who coughed up a mouthful of blood. “This is my apology,” she said calmly.
“Sister, don’t hurt yourself! I’m not upset.”
Lin Tingxue watched the little rabbit crying as she dabbed at the blood with a tissue, unsure how to react. In the Cultivation World, apologies were traditionally made by enduring a strike from the offended party. But this seemed to have frightened the little rabbit.
The Purifying Water Spell flashed, instantly cleansing Lin Tingxue of all traces of blood. “There won’t be a next time.”
Leng Yao sobbed, her voice thick with tears, but insisted, “No matter what you do, Sister, you could never offend me.”
“Alright,” Lin Tingxue said.
Watching Leng Yao’s tear-streaked face, Lin Tingxue thought, She looks even more like a rabbit now.
With Lin Tingxue’s assurance, Leng Yao’s emotions quickly subsided. Knowing her eyes must be red and swollen, she went to the bathroom to wash her face.
When she emerged, she found Lin Tingxue sitting cross-legged on the bed, eyes closed in cultivation.
In the novel, Lin Tingxue had been portrayed as a cultivation fanatic, spending every spare moment day and night in practice. Even after arriving in the modern world, she hadn’t slackened her efforts.
Leng Yao boldly approached Lin Tingxue and, finding no resistance, twirled a strand of the woman’s waist-length, ink-black hair around her finger. “Sister, your hair is so long.”
Boom!
Spiritual energy erupted outward, shattering the wooden planks of the upper bunk. Lin Tingxue reacted instantly, opening her eyes and pulling Leng Yao into her arms, shielding her as the splintered wood rained down on her own body.
“You shouldn’t get too close when I’m cultivating,” Lin Tingxue said. “I should have warned you. I’m sorry.”
Cultivators abhor being disturbed during their practice, instinctively using spiritual energy to warn intruders. But Lin Tingxue suddenly remembered this wasn’t the Cultivation World; such a strike here could obliterate Leng Yao’s soul. Yet Leng Yao was too close. Unable to retract the spiritual energy, Lin Tingxue had no choice but to redirect it upward, shattering the upper bunk.
“Next time, I won’t get near you when you’re cultivating, Elder Sister.”
Seeing a thin scratch on Leng Yao’s face, Lin Tingxue reached out to touch it, intending to heal it with her spiritual energy. But Leng Yao flinched away, avoiding her touch.
Did I really scare this little rabbit that badly?
Leng Yao dared not let Lin Tingxue touch her. She was afraid that if their skin made contact, she would impulsively throw her arms around her.
Finally, that annoying upper bunk is gone! Now Elder Sister has to sleep in the same bed as me. How wonderful!
Lin Tingxue, covered in wood shavings, pinched her fingers into a spell gesture, intending to cleanse herself with the Purifying Water Spell. But a certain bold rabbit stopped her.
Leng Yao swallowed nervously, her mind racing. “Elder Sister,” she said carefully, “here, we don’t use the Purifying Water Spell for bathing. You have to use the bathroom and wash with water. Why don’t you wear this as pajamas tonight?”
Lin Tingxue glanced down. In Leng Yao’s hand lay a seductive, strappy nightgown.
