Your Heart Is Beating So Fast
Ji Shubai, who had been turning her head to avoid Mo Zhu’s warm breath, suddenly froze. Her gaze dropped to Mo Zhu’s hand resting on her waist, and she became uncharacteristically still.
Receiving no response, Mo Zhu leaned her upper body in even further. She applied a bit of pressure, forcing the side-facing Ji Shubai to roll over and face her directly.
Mo Zhu effectively loomed over her, pinning her down. The strands of hair Mo Zhu had previously tucked behind her ears slipped loose with the movement, dangling against both of their faces.
Ji Shubai knitted her brows, making a move to turn her head away again.
But Mo Zhu reached out and cupped her cheek, her thumb gently grazing the skin. She looked up into Ji Shubai’s eyes and asked, “Miss Ji, did you hear what I said?”
Ji Shubai realized that any attempt to escape Mo Zhu’s control would be instantly suppressed. Resigning herself to the situation, she shifted her gaze to meet Mo Zhu’s deep, smiling eyes. “Which part?”
“It seems I need to say it again.” Mo Zhu chuckled as she drew closer, her nose brushing lightly against the bridge of Ji Shubai’s.
The hand cupping her cheek applied a slight pressure, forcing Ji Shubai to lift her face until their lips were almost touching.
“I like you, Miss Ji.”
The first time she said it, Ji Shubai had been facing away and couldn’t see her expression. This time, under Mo Zhu’s forceful gaze, there was nowhere to hide.
She watched as Ji Shubai instinctively pursed her lips before relaxing them. Her breathing hitched for a moment, and her beautiful eyes were half-veiled by long, thick lashes. “Okay. And?”
Mo Zhu’s thumb lingered near her cheek as she let out a low laugh. The vibration of her chest traveled through their thin layers of clothing. The hand at Ji Shubai’s waist slid into the gap between her back and the mattress, slowly moving upward.
“Is that your only response, Miss Ji?”
Feeling that restless hand wandering against her lower back, Ji Shubai shifted uncomfortably, only to be pressed down even harder. She frowned and tried to push Mo Zhu away. “What other response could there be?”
Mo Zhu suddenly wedged her left leg between Ji Shubai’s thighs. The latter instinctively tried to close her legs, but they were forced apart. Then, Mo Zhu’s knee, braced on the bed, nudged upward.
Ji Shubai’s eyes widened instantly. With a muffled groan of disbelief, she hissed her name in a half-shocked, half-scolding tone, “Mo Zhu!”
Being called by name again didn’t intimidate Mo Zhu in the slightest. She slid her hand down the length of Ji Shubai’s slender neck. The concealer from earlier had long since been washed away, revealing the dappled marks beneath.
Her palm eventually came to rest over Ji Shubai’s heart. Pressing down lightly, she spoke in a tone that was teasing yet thick with ambiguity: “Miss Ji, your heart is beating so fast.”
She even maliciously ground her knee upward a bit more.
“You!” The redness spread rapidly from the back of Ji Shubai’s ears down to her neck. Her lips trembled, but she was momentarily speechless.
It turns out that even a rabbit bites when cornered and when Miss Ji gets desperate, she kicks.
Mo Zhu caught the leg Ji Shubai had drawn up to kick her. Shifting her grip, she pinned the ankle down while pressing nearly her entire body weight against Ji Shubai’s soft frame.
Pinned and unable to move, Ji Shubai bit her lower lip, her breathing erratic. “Does President Mo say things like this to every one of her lovers?”
“Is that really how you see me, Miss Ji?” Mo Zhu feigned surprise, but she didn’t loosen her grip at all. Instead, her fingers traced the contours of Ji Shubai’s ankle as if she were measuring it.
Ji Shubai fought to suppress the tremors brought on by the tingling sensations of the touch. The corners of her eyes were tinged with red. “Is it not? That Miss Wen. didn’t you say the same things to her?”
Mo Zhu hadn’t expected her to still remember someone Secretary Han had only mentioned in passing. “I already explained about Miss Wen. At most, we tried dating for a while and it didn’t work out. That’s all. Have you never been forced into a blind date, Miss Ji?”
“Or should I call her up one day to explain it to you personally?”
As soon as she said that, Ji Shubai’s resistance grew stronger, bordering on genuine agitation.
Seeing this, Mo Zhu quickly stifled her laughter to soothe her, pulling her into a tighter embrace. “I’m joking. Don’t take it seriously, Miss Ji.”
Ji Shubai used her free hand to give Mo Zhu’s waist a sharp pinch, making her hiss in pain.
“Is it that funny? And those people from your high school…”
Ji Shubai stopped abruptly mid-sentence, as if her train of thought had been forcibly cut off. A flash of regret flickered in her eyes.
“High school? What happened in high school?” Mo Zhu pressed closer, hugging her.
She was finding that holding Miss Ji felt far too comfortable. Had she known, she wouldn’t have let her off the hook that first night.
“It’s nothing.” Ji Shubai avoided Mo Zhu’s eyes, her voice muffled. “Get up. You’re crushing me.”
“You haven’t told me what happened in high school yet.” Mo Zhu was clearly determined to be a rogue, her hands and knees continuing their subtle, distracting movements.
Under the pressure and the touch, Ji Shubai’s expression became stiff with indignant shame. “That’s enough—mmph!”
After a long while, Ji Shubai finally exhaled a trembling breath. She gritted her teeth and tried to push the shameless creature off her, every word forced out from between her teeth. “Stop it.”
The faint sound of panting reached Mo Zhu’s ears. Her own breath grew heavy as she leaned in, her cheek brushing against Ji Shubai’s. “What did I do to you in high school to make you dislike me so much?”
Finally reaching her breaking point and fearing Mo Zhu might do something even more outrageous, Ji Shubai finally relented.
“You didn’t do anything to me.” She tried to prop herself up to move away, but Mo Zhu caught up to her the moment she shifted. She couldn’t understand how the woman was able to find those sensitive spots even through layers of fabric.
For a moment, she lost her focus. A soft sound escaped her slightly parted, flushed lips a sound like the faint mewl of a kitten.
“Keep talking, Miss Ji,” Mo Zhu coaxed near her ear.
Ji Shubai’s eyes flickered, and it took a long moment for her to regain her senses. Her furrowed brows carried a mix of pleasure and tension. She took a shallow breath. “Do I need to count how many partners you had in high school for you?”
She paused, her tone turning indifferent. “I even walked in on you once.”
“Hm?” Mo Zhu lifted her head slightly. “Did that happen?”
In the memories she possessed, the original host and Ji Shubai only clashed because they couldn’t stand each other’s lifestyle and attitude. She didn’t know about the incident Ji Shubai was referring to.
What a useless system Xiao Ta is, Mo Zhu thought. The memories are incomplete. It’s totally sabotaging me.
However, Xiao Ta had already entered sleep mode and wasn’t around to defend itself. She didn’t want to wake it up to ask right now anyway.
“What did you walk in on?” Mo Zhu asked in a seemingly casual tone, but her restless hand finally moved away, idly pleating the bedsheets.
Ji Shubai finally felt like she had room to breathe. She shot her a sideways glance. “What do you think?”
Mo Zhu frowned, trying hard to recall the few high school memories involving her. Even though the original host had been wild and flirtatious back then, she hadn’t actually done anything truly scandalous.
“I was young and ignorant back then. Whatever you saw doesn’t count.”
Ji Shubai let out a soft huff. This time, she easily pushed Mo Zhu off. She sat up, turning her back to Mo Zhu to straighten her disheveled pajamas and smooth out the area between her thighs, which felt… indescribable.
“I’m serious, Miss Ji.” Mo Zhu propped herself up with one hand to get closer. “Everyone has times when they’re immature and make mistakes. You have to give someone who’s willing to change a chance, right?”
With her back turned, Ji Shubai remained silent. Mo Zhu felt a flicker of annoyance; she grabbed the woman’s shoulders to turn her around, only to be caught off guard by the slight curve of Ji Shubai’s lips and the lingering trace of a smile in her eyes.
Mo Zhu blinked, then narrowed her eyes. “You tricked me?”
Seeing Mo Zhu’s reaction, Ji Shubai tried to climb out of bed, but Mo Zhu hooked an arm around her waist and hauled her back.
As fingers slid down from her waist, Ji Shubai panicked and blocked Mo Zhu’s hand. “No, I haven’t recovered yet.”
“I don’t need you to do anything,” Mo Zhu insisted, refusing to stop.
“I have things to do tomorrow, Mo Zhu.” There was a hint of a desperate, difficult-to-voice plea in Ji Shubai’s voice.
Mo Zhu stared at her for a long moment before finally giving her a quick kiss on the lips. “Then you’d better remember to compensate me later, Miss Ji.”
The woman who had failed to play a trick and instead ended up owing a “debt” closed her eyes wearily.
Mo Zhu climbed out of bed, and Ji Shubai checked the time.
“Weren’t you going to the office? Why are you back so early?” Ji Shubai asked.
“Because I missed you too much,” Mo Zhu replied.
To this, Ji Shubai’s response was: “So that’s your excuse for getting into bed without even changing your clothes?”
Mo Zhu suddenly remembered that Miss Ji was a bit of a neat freak.
“Alright, my fault. We’ll sleep in the guest room tonight.”
Ji Shubai held out a hand to stop Mo Zhu from leaning in again. “Go shower and change first.”
Mo Zhu immediately extended another invitation. “Together?”
“I already showered.” Ji Shubai intended to just change her pajamas.
“But Miss Ji…” Mo Zhu grabbed her hand and guided it down to a certain spot, leaning into her ear to whisper a single sentence.
Ji Shubai’s expression shifted instantly. The redness that had just started to fade rushed back even more intensely. she fought wildly to break free of Mo Zhu’s grip and scrambled away.
“It’s only because you…”
“What about me?” Mo Zhu smiled innocently.
Ji Shubai had no intention of speaking to this rogue any longer.
Sensing she had pushed enough, Mo Zhu stopped teasing and got back to business. “Give the idea of returning to school some serious thought. I know you can’t let go of your studies. Don’t worry too much about anything else.”
Ji Shubai’s eyes wavered, but in the end, she only gave a soft “Mm.”
After Mo Zhu finished her shower, she headed to the study to finish some work that had been sitting on her desk.
When she finally returned to the guest bedroom, Ji Shubai was leaning against the headboard working on a drawing.
Seeing Mo Zhu enter, she set down her stylus and tablet.
“Waiting for me?” Mo Zhu sat on the edge of the bed.
“I just couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d make some adjustments to the sketch,” Ji Shubai said.
Mo Zhu pulled her down into her arms. “Miss Ji, it’s not embarrassing to admit you were thinking of me.”
Ji Shubai lowered her eyes. After a long silence, she slowly closed them, for once not offering a rebuttal.
The two of them slept deeply that night, finally managing to shake off some of the jet lag.
When Ji Shubai first opened her eyes and saw Mo Zhu beside her, she looked dazed for a moment. Once she realized she was tucked almost entirely into Mo Zhu’s embrace, she snapped awake and immediately pulled back.
The movement woke Mo Zhu, but in her groggy state, she didn’t quite register what had happened.
Today, Ji Shubai had to visit her family home, while Mo Zhu was heading to the office. They got ready and left the apartment together.
As the elevator descended, Mo Zhu was about to ask if she needed a ride back later.
Ji Shubai suddenly spoke up. “Waking up and seeing you there this morning… I just felt a bit…” She paused, searching for the right word. “I’m still not used to it.”
Mo Zhu hadn’t expected her to say something like that and was left a bit confused. “Huh?”
But before she could ask for clarification, they reached the first floor. The moment the doors opened, Ji Shubai hurried out, almost as if she were afraid Mo Zhu would press her for an answer.
“Xiao Ta, what did she mean by that?”
Xiao Ta scratched its non-existent head.
Maybe the female lead isn’t used to sleeping with you yet? Is she telling you to sleep together more?
Mo Zhu pondered this for a moment. “Who did you learn your logic from?”
