The Cold CEO Chases His White Moonlight - Chapter 21
She was a woman of extraordinary grace, her attire exuding luxury.
Had they merely been close friends linking arms, it might have been tolerable.
But the two were chatting and laughing, their intimacy unmistakable.
Gu Yunhui even pulled out a chair for the woman, and as she sat down, she reached out to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear, smoothing it into place.
Deliberately or not, her fingers brushed against the woman’s cheek.
The woman didn’t shy away. Instead, she smiled at Gu Yunhui with effortless ease.
Yet what others saw as composure carried a different meaning in Ji Zhiwei’s eyes.
It felt like a boast, like triumph.
A single interaction and Ji Zhiwei’s blood ran cold.
Her fists clenched, nails digging into her palms, leaving crescent-shaped marks.
Before Gu Yunhui could notice her gaze, Ji Zhiwei abruptly lowered her head, forcing herself to steady her breathing.
She slipped her hand into her pocket, pushing aside the jade bracelet to grip the pendant instead.
The pendant was icy, cooling her overheated mind, clearing the haze.
Gu Yunhui glanced at Ji Zhiwei, her faint smile imperceptible to most.
“We’re just here to freeload off Director Ye. Hope you don’t mind,” Gu Yunhui said as she finally took her seat, chuckling.
After a few pleasantries, Ye Pingsheng and Lu Peijiu both glanced at Ji Zhiwei.
By then, Ji Zhiwei had already composed herself with the help of the pendant. Though her smile was forced, without close scrutiny, no one could tell her discomfort.
Could it be that she was just one of the many canaries Gu Yunhui kept?
But that didn’t make sense. If that unfamiliar woman shared the same status, she wouldn’t receive such treatment from Gu Yunhui.
They looked so perfectly matched.
Ji Zhiwei had accompanied Gu Yunhui to business banquets before.
Not often, but each time, it was Ji Zhiwei taking care of her Yun-jie. When had Gu Yunhui ever pulled out a chair for her or tucked her hair behind her ear?
The more she thought, the worse she felt.
Was it because she wasn’t favored?
But Gu Yunhui had strong boundaries, she never let Ji Zhiwei touch her things.
If they were merely lovers, she wouldn’t treat her like this.
With just a glance, Ji Zhiwei could see Gu Yunhui chatting with the unfamiliar woman.
She even draped an arm over Lu Peijiu’s shoulder, served her food, keeping her happy while ensuring Ye Pingsheng didn’t remain sullen.
For the first time, Ji Zhiwei felt Gu Yunhui was so distant.
As if their agreement had ended, and they were now strangers.
As if she had never truly known her, and only today, seeing this Gu Yunhui who seemed familiar with everyone, did she realize this person wasn’t who she had imagined.
Perhaps she had always worn rose-tinted glasses, overlooking these details.
Like how Gu Yunhui had charmed Cheng Lanxin with just a few words and a smile, leaving her still eager to ask for Ji Zhiwei’s contact information.
Like how, in the audition room, she had been so amiable with Ye and Lu, as if they were old confidants.
Or how, on the day they first met, Gu Yunhui had been embracing someone before Ji Zhiwei approached.
Perhaps Gu Yunhui hadn’t refused to call her a lover out of pride, but for convenience, the convenience of ambiguity by insisting she was just a younger sister.
Too many memories, deliberately ignored by Ji Zhiwei, now flooded her mind.
Her stomach churned. Ji Zhiwei coughed twice, covering her mouth before excusing herself to the restroom.
Most actors weren’t entirely clear about the relationship between Ji Zhiwei and Gu Yunhui. At most, they might have caught a glimpse of Gu Yunhui in audition videos, but no one would deliberately remember her.
Lu Peijiu, however, knew better. Seeing Gu Yunhui remain indifferent, she poked her back.
As a member of the Lu family who had engaged in business dealings with her, Lu Peijiu understood exactly what kind of person Gu Yunhui was.
Cold-blooded and detached, she possessed a face so striking that even immortals and demons would feel ashamed in comparison and she knew exactly how to wield it.
She was like the most beautiful serpent, adorned with the most dazzling warning colors, so mesmerizing that people would overlook the fact that such a snake should also bear the deadliest fangs.
One moment, she might smile and offer you a seat; the next, she would decisively snatch your project away. How she operated depended entirely on whether there was profit to be gained.
She was, after all, a member of the Gu family, with blood that ran cold toward all living beings.
If necessary, she wouldn’t hesitate to turn against even her closest kin.
So Lu Peijiu didn’t dare touch Gu Yunhui anywhere else.
It had always been Gu Yunhui who crossed boundaries, this was an unspoken rule.
But Ji Zhiwei probably didn’t know any of this, did she?
Gu Yunhui turned her head with a smile, though the warning in her eyes was unmistakable.
Lu Peijiu withdrew her hand awkwardly, not daring to say another word.
In the restroom, Ji Zhiwei retched several times but brought nothing up.
The physical reaction triggered by her emotions left her feeling wretched. She splashed some cold water on her face to calm down, then looked up at her reflection in the mirror.
Her face was deathly pale, her eyes rimmed with involuntary tears. The only color on her lips came from where she had bitten them, making her look ghastly.
How could she face anyone like this?
Ji Zhiwei pulled her hands from her pockets and scooped up another handful of water, pouring it straight over her head.
Even clutching her pendant couldn’t steady her now. If not for the poor security here, she might have already broken down in tears.
Unnoticed by her, someone entered the restroom.
She only heard footsteps but didn’t look up. This state was too humiliating she could only hide.
Then the person stopped right behind her.
Just as Ji Zhiwei was about to turn her head, a familiar touch grazed the back of her skull.
She froze in place, her head still bowed, strands of hair dripping as the water continued to rinse over them.
The person behind her seemed to sigh.
“You didn’t spare me a single glance all afternoon, then just ran off like this.”
It was the voice Ji Zhiwei loved most cool yet laced with a hint of allure, the voice she had longed to hear every day for over three years.
But not now. Not when she was in such a pathetic state.
Especially since Gu Yunhui had just infuriated her, and she had no right to vent to anyone.
All Ji Zhiwei knew was that she didn’t want to see her right now.
“Do you have a problem with me?” Gu Yunhui’s hand slid down, brushing past Ji Zhiwei’s neck and lingering for a moment over her scent gland, eliciting a faint tremble.
Then she turned off the faucet and leaned in, as if trying to meet Ji Zhiwei’s gaze.
Ji Zhiwei still refused to look at her.
She simply closed her eyes and straightened up. “No.”
She didn’t dare open them. That way, Gu Yunhui couldn’t tell whether the streaks on her face were tears or water.
“Then come with me. I’ve already spoken to Ye Pingsheng.” Though she had ignored Lu Peijiu earlier, the image of Ji Zhiwei resolutely leaving the table was still etched in Gu Yunhui’s mind.
There had been something desperate yet fearful in her departure, a fragility that made her seem on the verge of shattering with just a glance.
“Mm.” She was just a caged canary, after all. She couldn’t defy her patron.
Ji Zhiwei exhaled slowly, mustering every ounce of acting skill she possessed just to hold herself together.
Gu Yunhui didn’t take her back to the small villa but instead brought her to the hotel booked by the film crew.
Gu Yunhui’s room was on the top floor, a large suite all to herself, directly opposite Lu Peijiu’s, the lead actress.
Once inside, Ji Zhiwei felt somewhat at a loss.
She had wanted a few more days alone to calm down, but now she had no choice but to stay with Gu Yunhui.
“Go wash up,” Gu Yunhui tapped the dazed young woman.
Ji Zhiwei mechanically walked toward the bathroom.
Gu Yunhui found it irritating to watch and averted her gaze.
The investor from earlier was the daughter of an overseas Chinese tycoon, with substantial influence. Only by keeping this person happy could Gu Yunhui maneuver more freely.
She had always been this way using sweet talk to lull the other party into complacency before striking at their throat, leaving no room for reaction.
She hadn’t even been particularly intimate with the investor, what right did this little girl have to give her attitude?
At this thought, Gu Yunhui irritably threw a pillow to the ground, then hooked it back up with her foot.
Why should she care what Ji Zhiwei was thinking? It wasn’t as if she had come here specifically for Ji Zhiwei today.
If the silly girl didn’t cooperate later, she could just kick her out.
Before long, Ji Zhiwei emerged from the bathroom.
As usual, she hadn’t changed clothes, only wrapping herself in a towel.
Water from her hair trailed down her collarbone, slipping into hidden places, inviting wild imaginings.
Her skin, freshly touched by water, glowed with a faint pink hue, sparkling and pristine.
Seeing that Ji Zhiwei’s face no longer held any displeasure, Gu Yunhui set aside her irritation and approached.
Ji Zhiwei was as docile as ever.
As if she hadn’t witnessed Gu Yunhui’s flirtation with the investor or retreated to the bathroom alone to cool off.
But no matter how much Gu Yunhui touched her, she couldn’t forget the pitiful figure Ji Zhiwei had cut when she fled.
Ji Zhiwei had already removed the towel, submitting to Gu Yunhui’s caresses.
She still couldn’t be sure was Gu Yunhui simply like this by nature, or did she actually have feelings for her?
Today, Gu Yunhui had been so cold.
Yet she had come to find her, taken her away, and now they were doing this. Ji Zhiwei let the contradictory joy empty her mind, refusing to dwell on Gu Yunhui’s exact attitude.
She wanted to savor this rare moment of intimacy. No matter what, as long as Gu Yunhui was still willing to be with her like this, things couldn’t be too bad.
“Do you want it?” Gu Yunhui pinched and squeezed but still felt unsatisfied, casually slipping a toy into Ji Zhiwei’s hand.
Ji Zhiwei tilted her head slightly, leaning against her.
“Do you?” Gu Yunhui coaxed Ji Zhiwei with her usual sweet words, even though she wasn’t particularly in the mood, still haunted by the girl’s earlier expression.
“Mm…” Ji Zhiwei clutched the little boat-shaped toy, unsure what to do, but answered Gu Yunhui anyway.
“But I don’t feel like touching you,” Gu Yunhui took a step back.
Ji Zhiwei, suddenly without support, nearly stumbled, but Gu Yunhui didn’t reach out to steady her.
Once she regained her balance, Ji Zhiwei’s pupils constricted. Had she really angered Gu Yunhui?
Gu Yunhui was still smiling, her beautiful eyes gazing at Ji Zhiwei with the same tenderness as always.
“So, play with yourself. I want to watch.”
Now Ji Zhiwei was truly startled.
The little object in her hand almost slipped out. Had she heard correctly? What did she just say?
So Gu Yunhui just wanted to try something different Ji Zhiwei exhaled half a sigh of relief.
But, what did she mean by “play with yourself”?
“You know, self don’t tell me you’ve never done it. I caught you just last time.”
Gu Yunhui had already pulled up a chair and sat down, looking every bit the spectator.
Ji Zhiwei swallowed hard.
She wasn’t shameless enough to do that in front of Gu Yunhui.
But if Gu Yunhui wanted to watch, did that mean she still liked her? Even if it was just her body.
Ji Zhiwei’s head spun. What exactly was Gu Yunhui thinking? Did she really want to see her.
“Hurry up.” Gu Yunhui urged. If Ji Zhiwei didn’t move soon, she’d have to pull out her trump card.
Ji Zhiwei didn’t dare delay any longer and sat on the bed.
She hadn’t indulged in self-pleasure much before. Last time had been purely accidental and she hadn’t even finished before Gu Yunhui caught her.
Now, under Gu Yunhui’s gaze, she didn’t even know where to put her hands.
“I can’t see anything. You haven’t even spread your legs.” Gu Yunhui was genuinely enjoying the show.
At this moment, Ji Zhiwei’s mortified, I-want-to-die expression finally dispelled the earlier irritation. In a good mood, she felt like teasing the girl a little more.
Trembling, Ji Zhiwei obeyed. Her entire face was flushed red, save for her eyes though they too were misty with embarrassment.
The girl was naturally beautiful.
But seeing her so obedient, actually going through with it, even Gu Yunhui’s ears turned red.
She’d seen it many times before, but never like this. It was novel, but it also made her feel a little flustered.
A sudden phone ringtone shattered the silence.
