The Cold CEO Chases His White Moonlight - Chapter 15
After stepping out of the shower, Ji Zhiwei was still sitting on the bed in a daze, the marks on her body clearly visible.
It was only after cleaning her own wounds that Gu Yunhui realized how gentle she had been leaving behind so few marks.
A child of the Ji family, how could she not deserve a hundredfold retribution?
Yet, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Gu Yunhui knew exactly how much it hurt. Over a decade had passed, and she still hadn’t forgotten.
Taking advantage of Ji Zhiwei’s distraction, Gu Yunhui pinched one of the marks on her body.
The pain instantly snapped Ji Zhiwei back to reality.
“Yun-jie, you’re done showering?” Ji Zhiwei looked up, ignoring Gu Yunhui’s mischief, and smiled at her.
There was one thing Gu Yunhui and Jing Tian agreed on.
Ji Zhiwei’s expression was far too dazzling.
Like a bewitching enchantress, even her innocent smile brimmed with allure.
Gu Yunhui reached out and covered the most captivating part of the enchantress her eyes.
“?” Ji Zhiwei blinked, her eyelashes brushing against Gu Yunhui’s palm.
The tickling sensation spread, and Gu Yunhui quickly withdrew her hand, not daring to tease her further, afraid Ji Zhiwei would take the opportunity to seduce her like this.
She had been acting very strange lately.
“I have things to do. I’m leaving.” The medicine had been changed there was no need to stay no, no need to let this brat serve as a body pillow anymore.
Her own house had plenty of real body pillows, ones that didn’t dig into her arms and were comfortable to hold.
Except, they weren’t as fragrant or as warm as Ji Zhiwei.
“Yun-jie, what about dinner?” At this hour, Ji Zhiwei had assumed Gu Yunhui would at least stay for a meal.
She stood up and followed Gu Yunhui, not even bothering to put on clothes.
Gu Yunhui turned back, took one look at Ji Zhiwei, and immediately averted her gaze.
Had she not noticed her own state?
“I’ll eat at the company.” Gu Yunhui stopped Ji Zhiwei, who was still trying to follow her. “Do you plan to go outside naked?”
Only then did Ji Zhiwei realize she wasn’t dressed.
Her face flushed red, and she instinctively moved to cover herself.
Perhaps because she thought Gu Yunhui had already seen everything, she didn’t actually act, just looked flustered, adorably so.
Gu Yunhui glanced at her out of the corner of her eye, noticing the blush spreading from her neck to her shoulders and even further down, and found herself inexplicably drawn in.
“Tch. I’m leaving.” Something was wrong with her. She needed to go back and take suppressants.
“Alright! I was going to cook for Yun-jie too,” Ji Zhiwei muttered softly, almost as if talking to herself.
Gu Yunhui was reminded of that overwhelming rush of blood to the head from before.
She took a deep breath, turned back, and shot Ji Zhiwei a glare. “You dare serve me food that terrible?”
The confusion in Ji Zhiwei’s eyes and the fleeting hurt stabbed at Gu Yunhui. Not wanting to linger any longer, she swiftly slammed the door shut, leaving Ji Zhiwei inside.
Ji Zhiwei quietly returned to her room, turned on the water, and stepped back into the shower.
As she washed, she pondered Gu Yunhui’s earlier words.
How did Gu Yunhui know what her cooking tasted like?
Hadn’t she refused to eat it last time? She’d even kicked her out.
By the time she finished showering, Ji Zhiwei had a guess.
But after scouring every trash can in the villa, she couldn’t find any evidence.
She decided to believe Gu Yunhui had tasted it.
After sitting for days, of course it would taste bad, it wasn’t that her cooking skills were actually terrible.
Her tsundere Yun-jie was so adorable.
Ji Zhiwei hugged a pillow and rolled around on the bed, then suddenly remembered her actual business and opened her dorm group chat.
[That person wants to move back into our dorm.] She typed a message, interrupting the bickering between Fang Xianqing and Cheng Lanxin.
[Fang Xianqing: So that’s why she ambushed you this afternoon. The photos are all over the forum now.]
Cheng Lanxin: Don’t even try to deny it, you big-eyed traitor! I knew you knew that gorgeous sister! And you pretended not to, refusing to introduce her to me!
Ji Zhiwei sent a question mark in response.
Ever since Li Yansong was expelled, Ji Zhiwei had stopped paying attention to the forum again. Plus, she had been busy playing for the past few hours, so she had no idea what drama had unfolded there.
Cheng Lanxin: Knew you wouldn’t admit it. Hmph, honestly, if I had a stunning sister like that, I’d hide her too and never tell any of you >^
Fang Xianqing thoughtfully sent over screenshots of the forum posts.
After scrolling through them, Ji Zhiwei realized that when Jing Tian had approached her, many people had been taking photos nearby.
Naturally, the onlookers had also captured the moment Gu Yunhui wrapped her arm around Ji Zhiwei.
Fang Xianqing even included the different phases of the forum’s reaction.
Phase One: Some speculated Gu Yunhui was Ji Zhiwei’s girlfriend, while others insisted she was her sugar mommy. The two sides were deadlocked.
Phase Two: People started vaguely matching Gu Yunhui’s face to the woman from the audition. Based on Director Ye’s comments, the majority leaned toward her being Ji Zhiwei’s girlfriend, prompting many of Ji Zhiwei’s secret admirers to wail in despair in the thread.
Phase Three: Jing Tian personally “debunked” the rumors, claiming that woman was Ji Zhiwei’s sister.
What a shame. Ji Zhiwei’s expression darkened as she skimmed through the flood of comments like: “Sister, look at me, I’m totally available, I get along great with Ji Zhiwei!” and “Sister, don’t listen to her, I can be both cool and sweet way better than them!”
What was the point of Jing Tian opening her mouth like that?
Wouldn’t it have been better to leave this beautiful misunderstanding alone?
Now, there was a whole crowd coveting Gu Yunhui.
Even though Ji Zhiwei knew Gu Yunhui wouldn’t give any of them the time of day, the jealousy was enough to make her dizzy with bitterness.
Fang Xianqing: Jing claimed she’s your sister. True or false?
Ji Zhiwei burrowed into the blankets, thoroughly annoyed. The scent of vinegar practically wafted downstairs.
How she wished she could type out the word “girlfriend” and send it. But that was the one thing she absolutely couldn’t do.
With a sigh, Ji Zhiwei replied, “Yes.”
Yes, she was her lover sister, her sugar sister, her bedroom sister.
But she couldn’t say any of that. It was maddening.
Ji Zhiwei: So, what do you guys think about Jing Tian’s situation? She steered the conversation back.
Cheng Lanxin sent a string of ellipses, followed by Fang Xianqing.
Fang Xianqing: Back then, you were the biggest victim. Have you forgiven her?
Ji Zhiwei curled her lip.
Of course not. She wasn’t that magnanimous.
Ji Zhiwei: Honestly, I don’t care anymore. I don’t have the energy to hate her, it’s exhausting. But I don’t want to forgive her either.
After sending that, Ji Zhiwei’s thoughts drifted back to her freshman year.
From a young age, Ji Zhiwei’s dream had been to get into Film University.
While the other Ji children were all striving for the top two universities, Ji Zhiwei’s aspirations were criticized as unambitious. Fortunately, her mother had always supported her.
But then her mother passed away, and the Ji family collapsed.
Ji Zhiwei got into Film University but couldn’t afford to continue her studies.
By sheer coincidence, Gu Yunhui’s help allowed her to stay in school.
As a new student, Ji Zhiwei had been full of hope for campus life.
She thought the teachers were great, her classmates were great. These four years were going to be wonderful.
She had been unusually kind to her roommates. Among them, she and Jing Tian had grown closest.
At their most inseparable, they attended every class together.
They ate together, drank together, went everywhere as a pair.
It was the kind of closeness where whenever teachers or classmates couldn’t find Ji Zhiwei, they would ask Jing Tian instead.
Of course, except when Ji Zhiwei was meeting Gu Yunhui.
That was a secret she could never share with anyone, not even her best friend.
Now, Ji Zhiwei was grateful she had never mentioned Gu Yunhui’s existence to this so-called “friend.”
About halfway through the semester, Ji Zhiwei earned her first-ever top ranking in her grade, joined the student council, and received invitations from numerous clubs.
She vaguely remembered even getting some audition offer, a small web series from some minor company.
Around the same time, Jing Tian was reclaimed by her family.
Ji Zhiwei couldn’t even recall the family’s surname, only that it was an unremarkable one, nowhere near the prestige of the top four families.
But they were wealthier and more powerful than ordinary families, obsessed with class and status, cold-blooded and profit-driven.
And so, Ji Zhiwei noticed Jing Tian slowly changing.
From splitting bills equally for meals and outings, to later insisting Ji Zhiwei pay every time.
It was as if Jing Tian had truly transformed into some noble princess, expecting everyone to cater to her whims.
If it was just about money, Ji Zhiwei didn’t want to care.
She had worked part-time over the summer, saved up some living expenses, she didn’t need to spend the allowance Gu Yunhui gave her.
Of course, the salary card was opened under Gu Yunhui’s name, and when she found out later, Ji Zhiwei was no longer allowed to work part-time.
Ji Zhiwei had never had many friends growing up, often alone, mocked by classmates for being lonely.
With a rare friend like Jing Tian, Ji Zhiwei thought she could endure it.
But then Jing Tian started eyeing Ji Zhiwei’s resources.
Clubs, Jing Tian wanted to join using Ji Zhiwei’s name. The student council, Jing Tian leveraged Ji Zhiwei’s reputation to expand her own connections.
She even tagged along to that audition.
Her family pressured the production, and the web series chose Jing Tian over Ji Zhiwei.
There were probably more incidents like this campus beauty pageants where Jing Tian slandered her, things Ji Zhiwei couldn’t be bothered to remember.
The last memory she had of Jing Tian was their fight over a meal bill, escalating from an argument to a physical brawl in the dorm, tumbling from the fourth floor all the way down to the first.
By the time security arrived, Ji Zhiwei had landed hard, headfirst on the ground.
After that, Jing Tian transferred departments.
She moved out of the dorm, returned to her family, and vanished from Ji Zhiwei’s life.
Without so much as an apology.
Back then, all Ji Zhiwei had wanted was for her to say sorry.
Now, Ji Zhiwei wanted nothing from her at all.
Their dorm room had remained a trio ever since. Fang Xianqing and Cheng Lanxin could clearly sense Ji Zhiwei distancing herself further from them, but neither dared bring up Jing Tian.
Of course, aside from harassing Ji Zhiwei, Jing Tian had also caused trouble for the other two roommates just not as severely.
No wonder Jing Tian couldn’t find a dorm willing to take her in now.
The fight from freshman year was still fresh in everyone’s minds, who would dare provoke this “young miss,” even if she’d fallen from grace?
[Fang Xianqing: Then don’t forgive her. Her well-being has nothing to do with you.] A message from her roommate came through.
Ji Zhiwei snapped out of her memories. [But her family’s ruined. She’s homeless.]
[Cheng Lanxin: Her family’s downfall isn’t your problem. She brought this on herself. Girl, if you dare let her back into our dorm, I’ll laugh at you for the rest of my life.]
[Cheng Lanxin: Seriously, I’ll get a loudspeaker, loop recordings of me cursing her out, and play one right next to your ear every day just to mock you.]
Reading this, Ji Zhiwei couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
【Ji Zhiwei: Not letting go, absolutely not, never considered it. Just wanted to hear your opinions. Let’s go out for a meal after the exams.】
At least she still had two good roommates.
Next, Cheng Lanxin enthusiastically discussed with Fang Xianqing where they should eat.
Ji Zhiwei exited the chat and found a familiar number.
There were over a dozen messages inside, each sounding pitifully desperate.
Ji Zhiwei hadn’t replied to any of them.
Right now, she didn’t want to dwell on it anymore. This person had long since ceased to have any connection with her.
She tapped on the profile picture and blocked Jing Tian’s number.
But not even a few days later, Jing Tian found Ji Zhiwei again.
“Classmate Ji, I really have something to say to you.”
Ji Zhiwei didn’t even lift her eyelids.
Only when a heartfelt letter and a box of chocolates were placed in front of her did Ji Zhiwei finally look at her former friend, her expression unavoidably stunned.
