The Cold CEO Chases His White Moonlight - Chapter 12
“An alpha with such a pretty face, what a waste.” The man even had a baseball bat in his hand.
Ji Zhiwei remained expressionless, pulling out her phone to call security.
These were people sent by Li Yansong.
If this was the extent of his tactics, then it wasn’t much of a problem.
“I’m a good student,” Ji Zhiwei said, sending a message with one hand while glancing at the leader of the group.
“So what? You pissed off the boss, so you deserve this beating,” the male alpha sneered, as if he’d heard something ridiculous.
On closer inspection, this alpha girl was really good-looking. Even if she was an alpha, he wouldn’t mind taking her in.
“So I reported you to the authorities.”
By the time she finished speaking, security had already arrived with backup. “You there! You’re not students here, how did you get in?”
The delinquent’s expression finally changed.
“Damn it, are you f*cking insane?! You’re a college student and you’re still snitching?! You, you’re breaking the rules! How could you?”
“You can bully people on campus, but I can’t call for backup?” Ji Zhiwei rolled her eyes. “Auntie Chen, it’s them. They even brought weapons.”
The security team subdued the troublemakers in no time.
“Are you alright, Ji?” one of the guards asked.
“I’m fine. Thank you for coming so quickly.”
“Ah, it’s nothing. It’s our job. If anything, it’s our fault for letting them in. Some students just suffer in silence when things like this happen, and that’s not good it can lead to bigger problems. If you run into people like this again, make sure to tell your advisor too, okay?” The guards led the delinquents away.
Ji Zhiwei turned and headed into the academic building.
She had to thank Jing Mingxuan for this, she was on good terms with the security team. Otherwise, she’d have had to ask the student council president for their contact info today.
Over the next few days, Ji Zhiwei was cornered in the bathroom and had her bag snatched.
She was certain that if this had happened in high school, her seat would’ve been vandalized, and her dorm would’ve been targeted too.
Their methods were so childish that Ji Zhiwei almost couldn’t be bothered to deal with them.
Compared to them, Jing Mingxuan, who kept trying to “make up” was far more annoying.
And, Gu Yunhui’s heat was coming up again.
Ji WZhiwei considered these past few days a cold war between them. Neither had sent the other a message.
Of course, even when they weren’t fighting, Gu Yunhui rarely texted her more than a handful of times a month.
But the lack of messages these past few days left Ji Zhiwei feeling unsettled.
Lying on her dorm bed, Ji Zhiwei scrolled through her chat history with Gu Yunhui.
Aside from the day of the audition, when Gu Yunhui had asked if she was angry, all the other messages were perfunctory at best.
Year after year, it was the same: Gu Yunhui would tell her to come to the villa, and she’d reply with “Got it.”
With Gu Yunhui’s messaging frequency, having notifications on or off made little difference.
Finally, Ji Zhiwei found a slightly different exchange.
It was from her freshman year, when Gu Yunhui had asked if she was being bullied at school.
That was probably about the incident with Jing Mingxuan.
Ji Zhiwei had already forgotten how their conflict started, she just remembered it had gotten pretty ugly.
But now, the first semester of their senior year was already halfway over. Jing Mingxuan had moved out of the dorm and transferred to the finance department. If she hadn’t been harassing Ji Zhiwei these past few days, Ji Zhiwei wouldn’t even have remembered to hold a grudge.
Back then, Gu Yunhui had seemed a little closer to her.
After they finished, they would occasionally chat. Ji Zhiwei would decorate their “home” from time to time according to her preferences.
Truthfully, she didn’t like flowers or sweets. Simpler things suited her better.
But Gu Yunhui had once said she liked them.
Most of the monthly allowance Gu Yunhui gave her, Ji Zhiwei had saved, untouched.
She thought that perhaps, once their agreement ended, she could return it to her.
She only spent a little on daily necessities and a bit more on these small decorations.
How had it come to this, after three years, she was somehow making Gu Yunhui angry more and more often? Was she being too greedy, too bold?
Thinking about how many times they had been in a cold war these past few months, Ji Zhiwei couldn’t bring herself to feel happy.
Tossing and turning for a while, she noticed the moonlight was bright, the curtains fluttering slightly in the breeze so different from the heavy blackout drapes in the villa.
She’d probably be sleepless again tonight.
Ji Zhiwei scrolled further up their chat history. She hadn’t changed phones in years, so all their messages were still there.
Just as she neared the top, a notification shattered the silence.
Ji Zhiwei quickly muted her phone.
Why was it always such a coincidence? At least she hadn’t disturbed her roommate.
Gu Yunhui had only sent a single question mark.
What did that mean? Ji Zhiwei wasn’t sure. She typed for a while, then deleted it.
[Yun: Not asleep?]
The next message arrived right on cue.
Ji Zhiwei’s heartbeat quickened.
[Zhizi: No, Yun-jiejie isn’t asleep either?]
[Yun: Busy. Saw you typing, so I asked.]
Ji Zhiwei sat up, only to remember she was in her dorm, it would look strange so she burrowed under the covers, cocooning herself completely.
Cheng Lanxin, startled awake by the notification sound, lifted her head just in time to see a massive ghostly figure looming over Ji Zhiwei’s bed and promptly fainted again.
Ji Zhiwei didn’t know how to respond, so she sent a “You’ve worked hard” sticker.
Gu Yunhui replied with a “head pat” sticker.
If only she could actually pat her head.
Ji Zhiwei stared at the two little patting characters, then reached up and patted her own head.
Perhaps it was at this moment that Ji Zhiwei felt staying up tonight had been the right decision.
Even if Gu Yunhui didn’t apologize, the fact that she had taken the initiative to ask meant Ji Zhiwei could consider it an apology and forgive her.
[Zhizi: Staying up late isn’t good.] So Ji Zhiwei offered some concern.
[Yun: You know that? Then hurry up and sleep.]
Ji Zhiwei could practically hear Gu Yunhui’s tone, a little stern, but genuinely worried about her.
If not for her roommate and the cramped single bed, Ji Zhiwei would have started rolling around in excitement.
[Zhizi: Can’t sleep!]
[Yun: What, someone bullying you?]
Ji Zhiwei froze, unsure how to answer.
Should she play the victim? But if she said anything, wouldn’t that just burden Gu Yunhui with solving her problems again?
She’d already caused so much trouble for Gu Yunhui to handle this month.
While Ji Zhiwei bit her lip in hesitation, Gu Yunhui sent another question mark.
[Zhizi: No, just insomnia.] Ji Zhiwei quickly made up an excuse.
Gu Yunhui, in her office, could tell she was lying based on the delay in her response.
These past few days, Gu Yunhui had been busy dealing with the Yan family, those damned dogs, backed into a corner, were biting back hard.
She didn’t believe that classmate of Ji Zhiwei’s, the one connected to the Yan family who had leaked those photos, would stay quiet for long.
Annoying. If she wasn’t going to say anything, fine Gu Yunhui couldn’t be bothered to help her anyway.
Gu Yunhui pressed her temples to relieve her fatigue, adjusted her glasses, and asked again if Ji Zhiwei was at the villa.
Ji Zhiwei was filled with regret. During these days of cold war, she hadn’t gone to the villa.
If she had known Gu Yunhui would take the initiative to message her, she would have gone every day, lying in wait like a farmer hoping a rabbit would dash itself against a tree stump, just to catch Gu Yunhui.
[Gardenia: I can be there]
[Cloud: It’s too late. Tomorrow, or the day after. Wait for me to notify you.] Gu Yunhui was speechless. In the middle of the night, this silly girl was still thinking about running to the villa was she trying to get herself killed?
Or was she hinting for Gu Yunhui to pick her up?
She should just say it outright. A little acting cute would do the trick, why make her guess again?
Ji Zhiwei genuinely hadn’t meant it that way.
She sent a pitiful cat meme over, successfully making the previously irritated Gu Yunhui laugh.
This girl’s collection of stickers was adorable, just like her.
If only she weren’t surnamed Ji…
Gu Yunhui stopped the thought before it could fully surface. There were no “what ifs” in this world.
[Cloud: You really want it that badly?]
Ji Zhiwei’s face burned under the covers. She grew so warm she had to kick off the blanket, roll over, and face the wall.
[Gardenia: Not at all…]
[Cloud: Still shy, huh?] Gu Yunhui imagined the blushing girl turning away at her question, her expression evasive yet full of implication.
It had been weeks since they last did it. She missed it too. And since she’d yelled at the girl last time, she might as well make it up to her.
[Cloud: I’ll buy you a new toy. Pick one?]
Ji Zhiwei wanted to send a question mark.
Gu Yunhui didn’t allow her to leave the toys at the villa, so she had to bring them back to her dorm. She was running out of hiding spots.
And now Gu Yunhui wanted to buy more. Did she have a collecting obsession or something?
Ji Zhiwei was genuinely terrified that one day her bag would tear open, and a round-headed, innocent-looking stick would roll out, only for a passing roommate to pick it up and ask, What’s this?
Gu Yunhui sent over three images.
Ji Zhiwei stared at the toys shaped with intricate, no, complicated designs and her brain short-circuited.
She’d never seen or used them before, but she could already imagine how they’d feel.
The heat in her body intensified. Ji Zhiwei fanned herself, a secretive sensation stirring within her.
She had to choose? Was this something she could even choose?!
[Gardenia: Do I really have to pick?]
[Cloud: You’re the one using them. Not me. Of course, you choose.]
[Gardenia: I can’t decide, Yun-jie. There’s no more space in my dorm.] Ji Zhiwei gave up.
[Cloud: Then leave them at the villa. Just not in the master bedroom. If you don’t pick, I’ll buy all three, and you’ll have to try each one to be a good girl.] Without waiting for Ji Zhiwei’s choice, Gu Yunhui went ahead and ordered all three.
Now Ji Zhiwei was truly stunned.
She stared blankly as Gu Yunhui urged her to sleep, then mechanically replied with a goodnight.
Placing her phone beside her pillow, Ji Zhiwei felt her entire body burning up.
She actually… kind of… looked forward to it? Something was wrong with her.
It must be because she missed Gu Yunhui too much.
Pulling the blanket over her head, Ji Zhiwei finally fell asleep.
Half-asleep, a thought drifted through her mind:
If Gu Yunhui hadn’t opened their chat, how would she have known Ji Zhiwei was typing?
The next day, perhaps unable to bear seeing Ji Zhiwei continue her comfortable life, Li Yansong personally led a group to corner her in a secluded spot.
“What do you want?” Ji Zhiwei had no interest in entertaining this clown never had, never would.
Li Yansong’s eyes were red. To an outsider, it might have looked like Ji Zhiwei was the one bullying him.
“Was it you? The thing with my uncle.” Ever since the school festival ended, Li Yansong hadn’t had a single good day.
Teachers gave him cold looks after hearing he’d spread rumors about female classmates, his peers gradually distanced themselves, and even the girls he’d been pursuing blocked him and refused to see him.
Only a few buddies from other schools still stuck by him.
Then, out of nowhere, his family ran into trouble his uncle even came demanding he pay back his allowance.
Of course, he’d already spent it all. What was the point of saving an allowance? He needed it to chase after omegas money never stayed in his hands.
Naturally, his uncle scolded him harshly.
Frustration had been building, and seeing Ji Zhiwei acting like nothing had happened, Li Yansong finally snapped and cornered her.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Ji Zhiwei kept her expression calm, but her heart was pounding wildly.
If she wasn’t mistaken, it had to be Gu Yunhui who was targeting the Yan family.
The Gu family had the power to do it, but no real reason to. The Yan family wasn’t small dealing with them would be complicated.
It could only be for her sake.
Just thinking about that, Ji Zhiwei could forgive Gu Yunhui for yelling at her once, even if it had been ten times, she wouldn’t have minded.
“You don’t know? You fucking say you don’t know again! It’s all because of you that I ended up like this! No one wants to work with me on the midterm project, I failed, no one signed up for my event at the festival, and now my family’s in trouble are you happy now?!”
As he spoke, Li Yansong swung his fist, aiming to hit Ji Zhiwei.
“Quite the temper, bullying a classmate in broad daylight. You’re Li Yansong, right?” Before Ji Zhiwei could dodge, a composed voice rang out from behind.
