The Cold CEO Chases His White Moonlight - Chapter 11
Gu Yunhui had made a spur-of-the-moment decision to visit the small villa.
Her other residences felt somewhat desolate. To Gu Yunhui, a home was merely a place to sleep. She even took her meals at the company.
Only the small villa where Ji Weimo stayed carried a trace of warmth and life.
Occasionally, Ji Weimo would place freshly bought flowers or a small bag of snacks and candies around the villa.
There were scented candles in the bathroom and a dreamcatcher hanging by the bedroom door.
Whether it was a coincidence or not, everything she bought happened to be Gu Yunhui’s favorite.
Ye Pingsheng had already identified the investor who leaked the audition details someone from the Yan family, and a rather influential one at that.
Since they had dared to target her, Gu Yunhui wasn’t about to let them off the hook.
Today, while planning her counterattack, she grew frustrated from overthinking and decided to return to the small villa for a while.
After all, Ji Weimo probably wouldn’t be there.
Not seeing the root cause of this mess wasn’t a bad thing either. Gu Yunhui feared she might lose control and take her anger out on her.
Though this matter couldn’t be blamed on Ji Weimo she was just a victim who had never provoked the Yan family, Gu Yunhui still felt irritated. What a hassle, having to clean up this mess herself. Not dragging Ji Weimo over to vent her frustration was already being lenient.
Gu Yunhui knew her own temper well, which was why she hadn’t summoned Ji Weimo for their usual stress relief.
Being alone wasn’t so bad it was peaceful. Ji Weimo was right; this place was indeed quiet.
After being in the villa for a while, Gu Yunhui grew hungry and began rummaging through the kitchen.
That was when Ji Weimo saw her.
Gu Yunhui slowly raised her head and looked at Ji Weimo standing at the doorway.
Her emotions were more tangled and chaotic than ever.
She didn’t know how to act toward Ji Weimo.
This cold meal, left in the fridge for who knows how many days, had been personally prepared for her by Ji Weimo.
A casual remark of hers, and Ji Weimo had taken it so seriously.
Every dish was one Gu Yunhui loved.
Judging by the portion, Ji Weimo had eaten half of it.
Who the remaining half was meant for went without saying.
From the condensation on the cling wrap to the icy chill of the bowl.
A heartfelt gesture, tucked away in the refrigerator.
Ji Weimo’s anger had only manifested as not replying to her messages that one night.
The impact of this leftover meal struck Gu Yunhui harder than all those mornings when she had overstayed her welcome and Ji Weimo hummed cheerfully while making her breakfast.
Gu Yunhui felt a pang of guilt, but her irritation grew even stronger.
She thought she was cruel, heartless, yet she had never blamed herself for it.
She didn’t understand why Ji Weimo would do this, nor why such a trivial matter would unsettle her so much.
Yes, Gu Yunhui was utterly flustered now, completely incapable of holding a normal conversation especially with Ji Weimo.
In her twenty-seven years of life, she had never encountered such a situation or experienced such emotions.
That something so small could rattle her like this was absurd. She was a member of the Gu family, after all.
She thought that if Ji Weimo hadn’t shown up just then, she might have reheated the leftovers and eaten them, carrying an inexplicable sense of guilt.
Being caught off guard alone wasn’t a big deal.
But fate had it that Ji Weimo arrived at that very moment, watching her silently as she stood there, holding the bowl of leftovers in a daze.
Annoyance welled up inside her.
“Yun-jie? You’re here too?” Ji Weimo seemed a little embarrassed and touched her face.
She closed the door, acting as if nothing was wrong, casually set her things down, and walked into the kitchen.
“This probably isn’t edible anymore. If you’re hungry, I can make you something fresh.”
She didn’t lose her temper at all, even wearing a smile on her lips.
Even though something she had made with her own hands had been wasted.
Gu Yunhui watched as she took the bowl, preparing to throw it away.
Gu Yunhui’s hand moved faster than her mind, snatching the bowl away.
Ji Zhiwei didn’t understand and looked up at Gu Yunhui.
“Sister Yun?”
Gu Yunhui held the bowl, her ears burning red.
The moment Ji Zhiwei called out to her, she was overcome with shame and anger, unable to suppress the lingering fury in her heart.
“You… why would you do this?” Bringing out this cold, leftover food to humiliate her indifference.
“Haven’t I been good enough to you?” Truthfully, she hadn’t.
Ji Zhiwei was stunned.
She mechanically raised her head, frozen, meeting Gu Yunhui’s gaze.
She couldn’t decipher the overly complicated look in Gu Yunhui’s eyes, only instinctively feeling a bit afraid.
“Leaving this here, not throwing it away, are you trying to win my sympathy? Get my attention?”
Gu Yunhui’s head buzzed, unsure of what she was even saying. She just didn’t want to see Ji Zhiwei.
Didn’t want to see her like this, didn’t want to see this meal.
Didn’t want to face these strange emotions, and even more afraid that Ji Zhiwei might react in some unpredictable way.
“ I didn’t,” She was really being scolded now.
Ji Zhiwei had only had a premonition earlier, but now it had come true. She clenched her fists, struggling to keep her expression under control.
“I just forgot to throw it away…” If Gu Yunhui hadn’t dug it out today, Ji Zhiwei probably wouldn’t have remembered until next month that she had frozen this thing in the fridge.
“Get out.” Gu Yunhui grew even angrier at Ji Zhiwei’s reaction. “Get out!”
Ji Zhiwei didn’t dare linger, stumbling as she ran, nearly falling at the doorway.
Finally, that detestable figure was out of sight.
Gu Yunhui slammed the bowl onto the counter, closing her eyes to steady herself.
What had she even said just now… Gu Yunhui took off her glasses, turned on the cold water, and splashed it repeatedly onto her face.
She found Ji Zhiwei annoying, found her disobedient and irritating.
That had to be it. That’s why she was angry, why she had yelled at the girl.
Half an hour later, Gu Yunhui opened the microwave and placed the leftover dishes inside.
After heating them, she took a bite.
The steam fogged up her glasses, blurring her vision and dulling her taste.
It was disgusting, the flavor completely ruined. That annoying girl couldn’t even cook properly.
Squinting through her obscured vision, Gu Yunhui forced down two bites, her stomach churning, before giving up and tossing the bowl aside.
She pinched herself, pulling away from the frustration, and returned to her work.
Almost the moment she stepped outside, Ji Zhiwei could no longer hold back her tears.
She had been in such a good mood today. Seeing Gu Yunhui had been an unexpected joy.
She had even thought Gu Yunhui wasn’t angry with her anymore over yesterday.
But apparently, she still was.
Yet she felt so wronged. She had prepared the meal with care, and even if Gu Yunhui didn’t want to eat it, why say such things…
Ji Zhiwei wiped her tears as she ran, still sniffling as she entered the subway, ignoring the stares of others.
She did want Gu Yunhui’s attention, wanted Gu Yunhui to look at her, only at her.
Wanted Gu Yunhui to gaze at her with tenderness, with love. To never look away.
But she didn’t dare do anything. She was just a caged bird, she had no right.
By the time she reached campus, Ji Zhiwei had finally managed to rein in her tears.
This place was full of familiar faces. If anyone saw her like this, they’d surely make a fuss.
Ji Zhiwei exhaled, wiped away the tear stains, and headed toward the dorm.
“Ji Zhiwei.” As Ji Zhiwei reached the dormitory building, someone called out to her.
Hearing the voice, Ji Zhiwei quickened her pace.
“Ji Zhiwei! Wait up!”
Ji Zhiwei didn’t turn back and headed straight upstairs.
Jing Mingxuan chased after her. Since they were both female alphas, Jing Mingxuan could enter the dormitory as well.
Fang Xianqing happened to be stepping out to fetch water when she saw Ji Zhiwei sprinting toward her.
“Zhiwei, are you being chased by a ghost?” Fang Xianqing’s eyes widened, she rarely saw Ji Zhiwei in such a flustered state.
“No, she came looking for me.” Ji Zhiwei didn’t even need to specify who “she” was.
Fang Xianqing’s expression instantly twisted into one of disgust.
“Come on, let’s lock the door.” Fang Xianqing abandoned her water-fetching mission and dashed into the dorm room with Ji Zhiwei.
By the time Jing Mingxuan arrived, the door to Room 406 was already locked. Panting, she knocked on the door.
“Zhiwei. I just want to talk to you. Xianqing, Xinxin, you’re in there too, right?”
No one answered.
Inside the room, Cheng Lanxin rolled her eyes dramatically in the direction of the door.
“That rich girl is here again?”
“Yeah, chased Zhiwei all the way upstairs.” Fang Xianqing, worried the lock might not hold, dragged her chair to block the door and piled several thick textbooks on top for extra security.
“How shameless. Wasn’t she the one who looked down on us first? Now she’s acting all chummy, as if everyone’s her family, willing to play house with her.”
Cheng Lanxin didn’t bother hiding her disdain, even speaking loud enough to be heard.
The dorm walls were thin. Jing Mingxuan heard every word through the door.
“I just wanted to,” She kept knocking.
A student from the neighboring room opened her door. “It’s late, what’s all the noise? Midterms are coming up, if you don’t want to study, others still do.”
Jing Mingxuan flushed red and finally left.
“Finally, some peace.” Cheng Lanxin fanned herself and opened the door. “Thanks, Big Sis.”
“Don’t call me Big Sis. I’m a good student.”
Ji Zhiwei glanced at the student as they spoke. Hmm, six earrings and full sleeve tattoos definitely a “good student.”
“ZZhiwei, why’d you come back? I thought you were going to your family’s place.” Fang Xianqing smiled and handed Ji Zhiwei a cup of instant noodles. “Want some? You haven’t had dinner, right?”
“It’s fine, I’m not hungry. I don’t need to go today.” Gu Yunhui didn’t want to see her.
Ji Zhiwei kept her expression under control. No matter how calm and gentle she appeared on the surface, her heart ached bitterly.
“Alright. Any thoughts on which company you’ll join? You got a ton of business cards today.”
Ji Zhiwei patted her pocket, she had received stacks of cards, not to mention the ones forced on her, with some recruiters even insisting on adding her on WeChat.
“Probably you or Shifei. I’ll need to discuss the details and contracts with them. I’d consider Huanyu too, but I don’t have their contact info.” Ji Zhiwei sorted through the cards.
The companies she mentioned were major players in the industry, having produced numerous award-winning actors and actresses.
However, WO leaned more toward music, so Ji Zhiwei guessed she’d likely choose Shifei.
“Makes sense. Huanyu is run by the Lu family, hard to get into.” Her roommates had no objections.
“What about you guys? Lanxin, how many years did you sign with that company?” Not in the mood to work, Ji Zhiwei asked a few more questions.
“Five years. Small companies aren’t bad resources are more concentrated. I’ve got another audition next week.”
“Will you be very busy? Did everything go smoothly last time?” Fang Xianqing avoided Ji Zhiwei’s question and instead turned her gaze to Cheng Lanxin.
“Just a maid’s role, went off without a hitch. Zhiwei, you’re the one silently making a fortune here.” Now that the storm had passed, Cheng Lanxin finally had the mood to tease Ji Zhiwei.
“Just luck, that’s all.” Just lucky to have landed a wealthy patron with resources.
Ji Zhiwei could tell that Gu Yunhui and Ye Pingsheng were very close.
She really didn’t know how much of her getting this role was due to Ye Pingsheng’s regard for Gu Yunhui and how much was her own actual ability.
Tormented by these thoughts, she lay awake all night.
The next day at school, Ji Zhiwei took a quieter path to avoid Jing Mingxuan, only to be cornered by a group of people.
“So, this is the one who pissed off our boss?” The alpha leading the group looked nothing like a student from the film academy far too rough around the edges.
