The Clingy Coquette and His Straight Roommate - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Want to Coax You
Inside the board game room.
Yu Lan loved playing games and enjoyed lively, crowded places. Niu Tiantian sat beside him, and the seat on his other side was empty. Just as Bo Jingshi was about to step forward, another girl sat down there.
She was exceptionally tall, appearing to be about 1.8 meters. Dressed simply in white and black with a neutral style, her pale gold-dyed wolf cut accentuated her sharp, clear jawline, and her stud earrings flashed with an unusual light.
“Hello, my name is Song Mingke.” Her voice was also somewhat neutral, with a slight raspy, smoky quality.
Yu Lan blinked, nodded at her, and tightened his grip on his small fan: “Hello, I’m Yu Lan.”
“I know your name.” Song Mingke stared at him fixedly as she spoke. “Can we be friends?”
Music was playing in the room, and Bo Jingshi couldn’t hear what the person across was saying. The person beside him whispered, “Holy crap, Song Mingke!”
“Isn’t that the ‘School Grass’ Song Mingke? Why is she approaching Yu Lan? Nice—now the ‘School Beauty’ and the ‘School Grass’ are together.”
A-University wasn’t like a campus drama where they officially elected beauties and heartthrobs, but students would vote on the forums for fun. These polls were usually unreliable; most participants were forced into them, like being submitted by friends with ugly photos or online pleas for a relationship match.
Song Mingke had an incredibly “Alpha” look. Despite being female, she possessed height and an aura superior to most men. With her intentionally neutral styling, she had a handsome, androgynous charm. Back then, Yu Lan had been submitted for the School Beauty poll, and Song Mingke for the School Grass. Both had won their respective titles effortlessly with overwhelming votes and popularity.
After Yu Lan added her as a friend, Song Mingke suddenly said, “Your WeChat name is very cute; it suits you.” She smiled and added, “Little Bear, so cute.”
Yu Lan lifted his head blankly. His exquisite, radiant face showed a trace of dazed silliness, looking clean and out of place under the chaotic purple and red lights.
Niu Tiantian quickly pulled him closer, answering for him: “Our Lanlan has always been cute.”
If they couldn’t tell by now that Song Mingke wanted to hit on Yu Lan, they were total idiots. Song Mingke wanted to move closer, but Niu Tiantian wedged herself between them. Song Mingke frowned but said nothing, looking at Yu Lan across the third person.
Song Mingke’s blunt, passionate gaze didn’t lose its heat: “Tiantian calls you Lanlan. Can I call you that too?”
Niu Tiantian: “…” Who’s ‘Tiantian’ to you? Do we even know each other?
Bo Jingshi sat in a small corner. His aura was too cold and distant, so no one dared approach him. No one noticed that his gaze remained fixed on Yu Lan, who was being hit on across the room.
He had always known Yu Lan was a magnet for affection; Yu Lan had many suitors, both male and female. It made sense—Yu Lan was cute and beautiful; it was impossible for anyone to dislike him. Bo Jingshi understood this, yet seeing someone else pursue Yu Lan still caused an irrepressible surge of sour jealousy.
Yu Lan actually gave Song Mingke his contact info. What was next? Would they go on a date? Would they get together? It was only natural. Yu Lan was currently single; it was normal to accept anyone’s pursuit or go on dates. Moreover, this girl seemed excellent, with impressive looks and presence.
Would Yu Lan be moved?
At the thought of this possibility, Bo Jingshi’s emotions fluctuated uncontrollably. Sitting in the corner, he was like accumulating storm clouds about to unleash a massive gale.
But Bo Jingshi could do nothing. They were just roommates, not even friends. He had no standing to interfere in the other’s private life.
The host held the game props and began explaining the rules of “King’s Game.”
“After shuffling, each of you will receive a face-down card. The one who draws the Joker is the King. The King’s command is absolute; they can choose any two numbers to do anything, and the holders of those numbers cannot resist.”
“Now, let the game begin.”
The first two rounds weren’t particularly special. Since the game had just started, no one dared play too rough. The “commands” were mostly hugs, staring at each other for a few seconds, or simple performances and dares.
The atmosphere gradually heated up.
Yu Lan liked this game atmosphere, but he also liked being sneaky. Every time he finished looking at his own card, he liked to peek at the cards of the people to his left and right. Niu Tiantian deliberately covered hers, making him glare at her huffily. Then, he turned his rounded, pitiful eyes toward Bo Jingshi’s card.
“Senior…”
“Acting spoiled again.”
Yu Lan was dazed. His fair face had a blurred sense of beauty under the dazzling lights. His eyes were moist and spirited, his lashes long. He pressed his soft lips together before opening them to whisper, “No, I’m not.”
Bo Jingshi was most vulnerable to this expression of his—looking so beautiful yet appearing as if he understood nothing. Not only could Bo Jingshi not look away, but Xu Weiqing and Song Mingke, sitting opposite, were staring straight at Yu Lan as if they wanted to swallow him whole. If Yu Lan hadn’t said he would teach him how to play, Bo Jingshi wouldn’t have been able to get the seat next to him.
With neither side letting him see their cards, Yu Lan’s brow furrowed, looking very aggrieved. Bo Jingshi leaned his head down slightly and asked, “Are you angry?”
“No.” Yu Lan turned his head away, revealing his exquisite, porcelain-white profile. “Who would dare be angry with you, Senior?”
But his cheeks were puffed out, his handsome brow was twisted into a little hill, and even his profile was tense. He was clearly unhappy—a delicate state that required someone to coax him.
Under the table, Bo Jingshi reached out to touch Yu Lan’s hand, only to be swatted away fiercely. But this strike didn’t hurt Bo Jingshi; instead, it made Yu Lan’s own eyes turn moist.
It hurts!
Yu Lan lowered his long lashes, looking at the scraped skin on his palm with watery eyes. He wondered how Ke Yisen’s skin was so thick. When he hit Ke Yisen, he had hurt his own hand.
“Still hurts?”
“Mm…”
Yu Lan answered subconsciously, gloomily staring at his reddened palm. Before he could stare for long, his wrist was pulled over and placed on Bo Jingshi’s thigh. Before he could be confused or ask questions, a waterproof bandage was pressed onto his palm.
The center was snowy white and the surroundings transparent, printed with a cute cartoon pattern. It was a bear.
Yu Lan lifted his eyes in surprise, leaning his body closer: “Senior, when did you buy this?”
“I bought it when I was padding an order earlier,” Bo Jingshi said dismissively.
In truth, after seeing Yu Lan had a wound, he had used an app to order a local delivery. After it was bought, he hadn’t dared send it to Yu Lan because there were too many people around him. A crowd had surrounded Yu Lan, fussing over him with anxious expressions. A pampered Yu Lan didn’t lack concern or protection, much less a single bandage from him.
But Yu Lan hadn’t told anyone he was hurt, nor had he shown the wound to anyone else. Only Bo Jingshi’s sharp eyes had noticed the injury and brought him a bandage.
“Is that so?” Yu Lan blinked. His face had the curves of baby fat, but the corners of his eyes tilted up slightly, possessing a natural allure.
“No.” Bo Jingshi said, “I bought it specifically for you.”
Yu Lan was stunned. He had actually believed Bo Jingshi’s previous excuse; the follow-up question was just habitual, like a casual “Have you eaten?”
“Fine!” Yu Lan thought for a good while before huffing delicately, “Then I’m still going to be angry with you.”
He completely forgot who had just said they weren’t angry.
“I just went to the kitchen to get some wasabi. In a moment, the Jack of Diamonds and Queen of Diamonds must take a bite. You can refuse, but then you have to chug a whole bottle!” the King of this round declared.
Hearing this, Yu Lan’s face went pale. He looked at his Jack of Diamonds in panic. His little face wilted—how could he be so unlucky… The Queen of Diamonds was a stranger, who stood up and began chugging hard liquor.
Just as Yu Lan was about to reveal his card, his wrist was suddenly encased in a burning warmth. Bo Jingshi hid his hand under the table and plucked the card from his fingers. A new card was stuffed into his palm.
Rough, calloused fingertips brushed insignificantly against his soft palm. Yu Lan pressed his knees together and looked up at Bo Jingshi in confusion. They were pressed nearly against each other. Under the explosive music, Bo Jingshi’s voice landed in his ear, quiet yet perfectly audible to him.
“Don’t be angry anymore, Little Princess.”
At that moment, Yu Lan’s face burned red instantly, the dim and blurry lights hiding his crimson cheeks. Bo Jingshi calmly placed the Jack of Diamonds on the table and equally calmly picked up an unopened bottle of liquor.
His chugging motion was fast; he tilted his head back decisively, his Adam’s apple bobbing continuously. The transparent liquid stained the corners of his mouth and wet his jawline, leaving a damp trail on his neck that was incredibly sexy. The alcohol content was high, yet Bo Jingshi finished the bottle cleanly and swiftly.
When he leaned back toward Yu Lan, Yu Lan’s eyes turned slightly red from the fumes of the alcohol. Fearing the smell would bother him, Bo Jingshi immediately moved further away, but he still looked into Yu Lan’s eyes: “Still angry?”
“When was I ever angry?” Yu Lan muttered. “I’m not that petty.”
Bo Jingshi let out an “Mm,” agreeing with Yu Lan’s statement. He said, “Lanlan isn’t petty.”
“It was my own decision to coax you.”
It was another new round. With the previous instance of Bo Jingshi helping him “cheat,” Yu Lan had already pulled Bo Jingshi into his alliance. As soon as the cards were dealt, he scrambled over to see Bo Jingshi’s card. This time, Bo Jingshi’s movements were fast and he showed it openly: King of Spades.
Yu Lan’s curiosity was satisfied, and his lips curved up happily. Before looking at his own number, he showed it to Bo Jingshi first. Just as he was about to look down at his card, the King card was revealed.
Liu Shang held the King card between his fingers, thinking with a deep expression before curling his lips into a smile: “The atmosphere is already here. How about we play something exciting?”
The group, already restless, suddenly became excited. Some jeered, some cheered, and some offered suggestions—each more exaggerated and over-the-line than the last.
Liu Shang laughed: “That’s playing too big, but I like it. We adults should play adult games. But since this is the first round, let’s keep it simple—”
“How about the King of Spades and the Ace of Clubs kiss?”
This kind of suggestive game was the easiest to ignite their emotions, especially since they had all been drinking and were in a state of high excitement. If it were two of the same sex, they could laugh it off; if it were opposite sexes, they could enjoy the spectacle. They couldn’t wait to find these two unlucky souls.
Yu Lan hadn’t had time to look at his card yet. His first reaction was: King of Spades? Isn’t that Bo Jingshi?
His gaze darted through the crowd, his fluffy head turning back and forth, expectation mixed with a bit of curiosity.
“Who is it? Who is the Ace of Clubs?”
“Don’t try to hide!”
Bo Jingshi had already shown his card. The atmosphere reached its peak as the crowd searched the surroundings for the “lucky” Ace of Clubs. After scanning the room and finding no one stepping forward, Yu Lan suddenly had a bad premonition.
He carefully looked down, his fingertips pinching the corner of the card to reveal a sliver. The number was instantly illuminated by a stray light. Beside him, Niu Tiantian, having confirmed she wasn’t involved, began to watch the drama. She glanced over randomly, her eyelids jumping violently, and she couldn’t help but gasp: “Holy s**t! Ace of Clubs!”
