- Chapter 2 - Golden Retriever Mommy: Talk About Something Appropriate for Minors
Feng You looked down at his chest. The brand-new sweatshirt was stained with a wet patch, and a faint trace of blood was even visible. He pulled at the collar to take a look. Sure enough, there was a deep set of teeth marks with beads of blood seeping out.
The strength of a nursing infant was truly not to be underestimated. Now that this little guy had started teething, he certainly showed no mercy with his bite. Feng You reconsidered the situation. Perhaps the little one had been hungry for too long. Seeing him, the child must have instinctively tried to nurse for fullness, which was why he used so much force.
He could not help but feel a sense of kindhearted pity, the same way he felt toward the other Omega children here. Having had his fill, the child settled down obediently and quietly, staring at this stranger with round, wide eyes. He stared curiously at the pair of golden retriever ears tucked against the side of the man’s head for a long while before opening his arms and making a few random babbles.
Feng You was very familiar with this gesture. The child wanted to be held, so he pulled him completely into his arms. With practiced ease, he patted the child’s back and softly hummed a self-composed tune, coaxing the little one slowly into sleep.
When the Factory Director arrived with the Omega employer and saw this scene, the anxiety in his heart eased slightly. He knew that among the options for childcare, Feng You was the best candidate. Internally, he began calculating how to push the price even higher.
“Tsk, what a troublesome brat,” the employer said. He was dismissive and had no kind words for an Alpha wild child who had appeared out of nowhere. In fact, he felt a degree of loathing toward the boy, fearing the child might ruin his arranged marriage.
Feng You handed the sleeping child over to the bodyguards, giving a few uneasy instructions. He did not have a good impression of wealthy families. Judging by the fact that they would give a small child sedatives, he knew this family was not made of kind people. Even though Golden Retrievers rarely see the bad in others, as a Golden Retriever Omega, Feng You still categorized this group as people who were not very good.
“Wait, go change your clothes first. Look at the state of you,” the Director said. He stopped Feng You and pointed at his chest. One side of his chest was indeed a mess. The dried saliva and flecks of blood had formed a dark stain on the milk-white sweatshirt. At a single glance, all eyes would gravitate toward that spot. Feng You felt it was a pity for the new clothes, but under the Director’s scrutinizing gaze, he went to change into another new one.
“Fine, he will do,” the employer said. He pulled out a bank card and spoke bluntly. “The kid’s name is Lu Yubai. He was born a male Alpha and just turned one. I will deposit the living expenses into this card. Do not come bothering me or my husband. The law mandates child support, so I will transfer it on time. I hope you people never appear in my sight again.”
With a look of disgust, he whispered, “It is a bargain for this brat to have the surname Lu too. His father died right after giving birth to him. Why did he not just die along with that man?”
Feng You repeated the name Lu Yubai, a one-year-old male Alpha, silently in his heart. He did not understand much about the law, but he felt that leaving this child with a family that used sedatives would be an even greater misery. The man looked up at Feng You and asked, “Any problems?”
Feng You thought for a moment and said, “During my secondary differentiation at fourteen, no pheromones were detected.” He did not know if this person cared about such a thing, nor did he think the man was looking for an Omega to pair with the child’s caregiver. Feng You simply felt that an Omega without pheromones was a physical defect. Since this person was paying to hire him, he felt he had to tell the truth.
“Hey, you!” the Director yelled. He nervously grabbed Feng You’s arm, his brow furrowing deeply. What if they could not send Feng You out after all? This was the best opportunity to squeeze a large sum of money out of this wealthy man.
“I could not care less if you have pheromones,” the man replied. “Even if you were a Beta without them, or even an Alpha with conflicting attributes, it would not matter.” The man’s words made the Director beside Feng You breathe a sigh of relief. “It would be for the best if you raised him to death. I would just have you locked up, and it would be one less burden for me.”
These words were truly foul. Feng You did not want to communicate with him a moment longer. The wealthy Omega was led away by an assistant to settle the payment. The moment he left, the Director slapped Feng You on the arm, making his tail twitch in fright.
“Who told you to say that? Who told you to run your mouth? Can you not see? He does not care about that at all.”
“I just felt he should be informed,” Feng You defended himself in a small voice. Seeing the Director’s expression was too hideous, he stopped speaking. The man did not even leave a phone number. He simply dropped a bank card and the keys to a property for Feng You. After paying, he grumbled about how the person who had climbed into someone’s bed had managed to take a property from Father Lu’s hands, claiming all of it should have been his.
Feng You took the child back from the bodyguard without a word. The Golden Retriever Mommy had now officially moved this person from the “not very good humans” category into “very bad humans.” He clenched his fists, listened to the man curse a few more times, and then resolutely lifted his head.
“So, you will not come to disturb us either, right?”
The man was clearly taken aback. He asked blankly, “What?”
“Since you loathe him so much, please do not appear before him ever again. His upbringing does not require a stepfather who gives sedatives to children.”
Feng You keenly noticed the man’s expression shift into a mix of shock and rage at being challenged. “He will be happy. He will be happy in exactly the way you least wish to see.”
The young Feng You did not know where he got the courage to talk back to the factory’s VIP guest. Perhaps the shock of the sedatives had been too much for him. He opened his mouth, wanting to throw a spiteful curse or two, but then felt that doing so would be unkind. Ultimately, he remained silent.
The child in his arms slept deeply, entirely unaware of the dispute between the two. Stunned into temporary silence by the retort, the man eventually recovered and hurled a few more nasty insults. He then left with his large entourage, completely abandoning Lu Yubai there.
The Director, hearing of this, scolded Feng You yet again. “Why are you arguing with someone like that? Just listen to whatever he says. The result was not going to change anyway. You just had to go and say something. You think the bodyguards around him are just for show?”
Feng You turned his head away, pursing his lips in silence for a long while. “Keep your voice down. Yubai finally fell asleep.”
“You are a stubborn blockhead. I have nothing more to say to you.”
Feng You had very few belongings. Most of his things were baby bottles, diapers, and formula for the little Omegas, which were piled high in his locker. His life seemed to consist only of this: raising children, playing with them, accompanying them as they grew, and then watching them leave.
Before leaving, Feng You did not forget to say goodbye to the other little Omegas. These little human-animal cubs did not understand the concept of a farewell. They crowded around to hug Feng You’s legs, playing with him just as they always did. Feng You patted their heads one by one, softly offering words of comfort. He explained the specific needs of each Omega cub to the factory staff, as serious as a formal job handover.
With one arm, Feng You held the sleeping Lu Yubai. With the other, he pulled a suitcase that a kind woman had given him. He had lived here for fifteen years, yet his truly personal belongings were few. They did not even fill a small suitcase. As he was leaving, his suitcase was hugged by a little snake cub. The tiny body desperately dragged the lightweight suitcase, and a fat snake tail coiled around it circle after circle.
Feng You stopped and crouched down to be at eye level with the little snake. His free hand stroked the snake scales on the side of the cub’s face. He said softly, “Xiao Qi, you will find a good home too. You must eat more while you are here because your body is the weakest. Tell the caretakers when you are hungry. Do not let yourself starve.”
Xiao Qi’s snake tail was thick and long, dragging behind him for half a meter. In comparison, his human body appeared even more frail. He would go out of breath just walking a couple of steps while dragging that large tail.
“Ma, Mommy,” the cub said. The golden vertical pupils blinked, looking at Feng You in confusion.
“I have specially asked the staff to take good care of you. Xiao Qi will have a very good future.” Feng You used his free hand to give Xiao Qi’s slightly cool body a hug. Xiao Qi’s body gradually grew warmer. Only then did he uncoil his tail from the suitcase and fold it up to hold in his own arms. He did not follow Feng You further. He stood there dazed, watching Feng You walk toward the unfamiliar factory gates.
At the entrance, an electric car was parked. Leaning against the door was a figure in white. Feng You dragged his suitcase closer and recognized the upturned white dog tail. It was a Samoyed hybrid Omega.
“Bai Fu? Is that Bai Fu?”
“Golden Retriever Mommy!” Turning around, Bai Fu flashed his signature smile. His dog tail wagged so fast it was almost a blur. “I actually came to bring you some gifts today, only to find out you are finally leaving this place! I am so happy! Mommy, you have escaped this place too.”
To every Omega here, this place was filled with dark and damp memories. Golden Retriever Mommy was the only warm solace.
“Long time no see, Little Ye. How have you been lately?” Feng You used the familiar nickname and asked with a smile.
“Great! Wonderful! I have gained quite a bit of weight, and I even got my Therapy Dog Certificate.” Bai Fu’s soft and bouncy Samoyed ears twitched excitedly, standing up one moment and flopping down the next. “What about you, Mommy? I feel like our Golden Retriever Mommy has gotten even sturdier.”
He poked the firm muscle on Feng You’s arm. The arm holding Lu Yubai was flexed, and the muscles were so hard they would not budge when pressed.
“Therapy dog?”
“Yes. My partner’s work is quite dangerous and depressing, and I often turn into my Samoyed form because of him anyway. I took advantage of being a hybrid Omega to get the certificate.” As Bai Fu spoke, a suspicious blush crept onto his face. He lightly nudged Feng You’s arm and immediately changed the subject. “Oh my, I cannot talk about this with an underage Mommy. Let us talk about something appropriate for minors.”
Feng You tilted his head in confusion. Bai Fu’s face turned even redder. Being a white Samoyed made his skin very pale, so even a little embarrassment was incredibly obvious. He hurriedly changed the subject again, pointing at the sleeping child in Feng You’s arms.
“This kid is not from our place, is he? Is he an Alpha?”
“Yes, he is an Alpha.”
Bai Fu teased with a laugh, “I did not expect that even after leaving, Mommy would still be raising a cub. When this kid grows up, will he call you Golden Retriever Mommy too?”
Feng You smiled and gave a casual response. He did not mind the title Mommy, but after all, he was only fifteen. Hearing people call him that constantly still felt a bit strange. Because of his Golden Retriever genes, he had long since ceased to look like a minor. The Omegas here, even those older than him, would call him Mommy. Just like Bai Fu, who called him Mommy with every other breath.
While Lu Yubai had not learned to speak yet, Feng You thought he must make sure the child learned how to say Big Brother first. Titles had to be established from infancy. Otherwise, when the boy got older, he would probably start shouting Mommy at random like all the other cubs here.
“Haha, Mommy is a feeling,” Bai Fu sighed with a smile.
