The CEO Omega I Picked Up Has Run Away - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Ji Shu originally didn’t have much of an appetite for plain boiled chicken, but perhaps because the original host had been starving for so long, she ended up eating quite a lot. The three of them finished off the entire six-pound hen, meat and soup included.
Of course, Ji Shu and Ji Hen did most of the heavy lifting. Li Mengwan only ate one drumstick and a bowl of soup before claiming she was full. She didn’t look like she found the chicken particularly delicious; it seemed she ate merely to stave off hunger.
Inside the dilapidated wooden shack, the three sat around the table, clearing away the remains of the meal. Since the only wooden stool in the house was broken, they all stood while eating.
Looking at the clay pot that had been emptied in less than half an hour, Ji Hen felt rather ashamed. “I’m sorry, Little Wan. This was supposed to be for your recovery, but we ended up eating it all. Don’t worry, my employer promised to give me my two months’ wages tomorrow. It’s market day, so I’ll take you to town to eat something good.”
“You’ve been here half a month and probably don’t know what our town is like yet. Let me tell you, our town is the largest in the entire county…”
Ji Family Village was nestled against mountains and rivers, boasting beautiful scenery, but transportation was extremely inconvenient. Only on market days could one catch a private van. Walking to town took about two hours. One could ride a motorcycle or an electric scooter, but people like Ji Hen and Ji Shu, who could barely afford food, naturally couldn’t afford any vehicle.
Compared to Ji Shu, Ji Hen was considered industrious. Although he didn’t farm, he took on manual labor jobs. He was never a talkative man, but in front of Li Mengwan, he seemed to have an endless supply of things to say.
“Mhm,” Li Mengwan replied, nodding slightly with a smile as if listening intently. “Thank you for your hard work, Brother Ji.”
Without needing to do anything extra, her smile made Ji Hen’s face flush. The female lead’s effortless charm was so alluring that if she actually tried, few could likely resist her.
A spring-like fragrance kept wafting into Ji Shu’s nose. A mysterious, itchy sting at the nape of her neck made her extremely uncomfortable. Her hand trembled, and the bowl she had just picked up slipped, shattering on the ground.
“What’s going on? I feel uncomfortable whenever the female lead gets close,” Ji Shu asked the system.
System: “This is the uniqueness of the ABO world. There is a fatal attraction between Alphas and Omegas. The fragrance the host smells is the scent of Omega pheromones. You must adapt quickly, Host. If you can’t handle this now, what will you do during the seven-day ‘Heat’ (Rut) period every month? That sensation will be ten times stronger than this.”
“You should focus on farming. Farming can vent your excess energy so you stop thinking about Omegas, and it can lead you to wealth and the pinnacle of life.”
Ji Shu: “…”
Somehow, she detected a hint of schadenfreude in that electronic voice. Was this system created by some pyramid scheme organization? Who said she couldn’t handle it? She just disliked this physical discomfort. Furthermore, as a martial artist, her willpower was far beyond that of average people. Even a Rut wouldn’t be a problem.
However, it was true she needed to avoid Omegas in this world, and there was one right in front of her.
“Sorry, lost my grip,” Ji Shu knelt down to pick up the porcelain shards.
Ji Hen felt the sting of losing a bowl, but in front of a beautiful Omega, he had to act magnanimous. He forced a grimace of a smile. “It’s fine, it’s fine. ‘Broken pieces bring peace.’ Sis, don’t pick those up, you’ll hurt your—”
Before he finished, Ji Shu’s finger was sliced by a shard. A bead of red appeared on her fingertip. Although the original host wasn’t very hygienic, she was lazy and never did hard labor, so once her hands were washed, they were as fair as a rich lady’s. The blood on her fingertip was exceptionally eye-catching.
Ji Shu had actually been very careful, but she hadn’t expected Li Mengwan to suddenly crouch down to help her, brushing against her hand. In the attempt to pull away, her finger was sliced.
It was a minor wound, no big deal. Yet, Li Mengwan took her injured hand with a worried look, asking softly, “Are you alright, Sister?”
“I’m fine.”
Ji Shu calmly withdrew her hand and wiped away the blood. Her expression was cold and stoic, but in reality, her ears were slightly warm—likely turning red.
Li Mengwan looked at her blush-colored ears, deep in thought. This person seems a bit strange. A few days ago she was always trying to get close, making me worry she might do something. Now she’s deliberately avoiding me… as if she’s afraid of me? What did a person without memories have that would make an Alpha afraid?
Ji Shu stood up first. “Thanks for the treat. You don’t need to pay me back for the chicken. I have things to do. I’m leaving.”
Ji Hen was stunned. His cousin actually said “thank you,” didn’t want the chicken back, and said she had “things to do”? What could she possibly have to do other than drinking, gambling, or bothering the village girls?
Just then, two drunken middle-aged men stumbled in, leaning on each other. “Ji Hen, got any wine? Come… come and drink with your brothers.”
The weather was hot and the door was open; they didn’t wait for a response before barging in. The newcomers were Ji Da-niu and Ji Xiao-gui, cousins known throughout the village as notorious drunks with terrible personalities. Their uncle was the Village Head, and they often used alcohol as an excuse to bully villagers. No one dared to cross them, or they’d find their village paperwork blocked at every turn. They were bad luck incarnate.
Ji Hen and Ji Shu were poor, and the villagers usually looked down on them. Because they lived at the southern foot of the cemetery hill, the furthest point in the village, almost no one ever visited. Thanks to this, the rescued Li Mengwan had been able to recover in peace for half a month, and her injuries were mostly healed.
Otherwise, with beauty like the female lead’s, she would have certainly been preyed upon by the village bachelors. It was lucky she was found by an honest man like Ji Hen; had it been anyone else, one could imagine her fate.
Sure enough, as soon as Ji Da-niu saw Li Mengwan, his half-closed eyes snapped wide. “Ji Hen, you brat! I was wondering why you’ve been making yourself scarce lately. Turns out you’ve hidden a beauty in your house!”
“Does the little beauty have a boyfriend? If not, Brother will introduce you to one.” He was suddenly speaking quite clearly.
Ji Xiao-gui wasn’t to be outdone. “Little beauty, what do you think of me? I work in town, earn 3,500 a month. I can provide for you.”
In a small town, 3,500 was indeed not low. The man was incredibly confident, ignoring his short, fat, balding appearance that resembled a toad. Worse, emboldened by the alcohol, the two men moved forward to touch Li Mengwan. Ji Da-niu was even a married man. Both were Betas and couldn’t smell pheromones, but that didn’t stop them from disregarding the two Alphas, Ji Shu and Ji Hen.
In their eyes, although Ji Shu and Ji Hen were among the few Alphas in the village, they were orphans, young, lacked ability, and were usually timid to a fault. Bullying them carried no consequences.
“She’s my sister! Get… get out!” Ji Hen’s eyes turned red with rage. He shielded Li Mengwan behind him and grabbed a hoe from the wall. “If you don’t leave, I’m going to use this.”
Even if his own feelings for Little Wan weren’t entirely pure, the actions of these two men were far too much. Loving someone means being good to them and respecting their wishes. This was pure sexual harassment. Anyone with a shred of dignity wouldn’t stand by.
“Don’t be afraid, Little Wan, I’ll protect you!” Ji Hen’s legs were actually shaking. He had never been in a fight; he was the physically weaker type of Alpha. But he had no choice. He couldn’t rely on his even “weaker” cousin; he was the only one who could protect her.
Clearly, the two drunks saw that Ji Hen was a paper tiger. Ji Da-niu pointed to his own head and leaned in. “Go ahead, hit me. If you don’t kill me, I’ll make you pay today.” Ji Xiao-gui lifted the broken table, looking ready for a life-and-death struggle.
Ji Hen grew more terrified but didn’t retreat. Just as the drunken men were about to lay hands on Li Mengwan, Ji Hen closed his eyes and swung the hoe—but he hit nothing but air.
However, screams of pain rang out.
Opening his eyes, he found his “weaker” cousin had kicked both Ji Da-niu and Ji Xiao-gui to the ground. She followed up with several more kicks that sent them howling like ghosts. Only when they begged for mercy did she coldly drag them and throw them out the door.
Yes, threw them. One in each hand, she hurled them onto the ground, leaving the grown men grimacing in pain. Throughout the entire process, Ji Shu hadn’t said a single word.
As soon as they hit the dirt, the two men scrambled to their feet and fled, not forgetting to shout back threats: “Ji Hen, Ji Shu! You think you can still live in this village? You just wait!”
Clang. The hoe fell from Ji Hen’s hands as he stared wide-eyed. When did his cousin become so strong?
Ji Shu turned back. Facing their strange stares, her scalp felt tingly. “Don’t worry, I didn’t leave any visible marks on them.” She knew how to inflict pain without leaving bruises. Even if they wanted to sue, there would be no evidence.
Li Mengwan tucked away the small knife hidden in her sleeve, smoothed her scrutinizing gaze, and smiled slightly. “Thank you, Sister. You’re amazing.”
A wave of heat rushed to Ji Shu’s face. Her stoic expression faltered with fluster. “It’s nothing. I have weeding to do later. You two be careful… you should probably call the police.”
With that, she walked quickly out the door, looking very much like she was fleeing. Not ten seconds later, she walked back in and picked up the hoe from the floor. “Lending this for a bit. Thanks.”
Perhaps the system was right. Farming was better. Despite how gentle the amnesiac Li Mengwan appeared now, according to the system, the original her could drive those who offended her to jump off buildings.
Ji Shu kept her head low, not looking at Li Mengwan at all.
Watching the person who was cold and sharp while fighting but now had red ears, Li Mengwan fingered a jade prayer bead bracelet on her left wrist carved with the character “Wan.” She let out a soft chuckle, an indiscernible light flashing in her eyes.
“Eh?” Ji Hen finally snapped out of it. He shouted toward Ji Shu’s retreating back, “Sis! What are you weeding? I’ll help you!”
Call the police? Why call the police? Hadn’t his cousin previously said calling the police was a hassle and forbid it? Moreover, Little Wan was also very resistant to involving the police. Otherwise, he would have gone to the town station the second day he found her.
Still, they truly had to be wary of Ji Da-niu and Ji Xiao-gui. Ji Hen felt worried. His simple mind briefly forgot to dwell on his cousin’s sudden transformation.
