The wooden bed wasn’t large, and the gap between the two of them was significant.

Ji Shu lay on her side with her back to Li Mengwan, so close to the edge that she would have fallen off if she moved an inch forward. The Omega’s fragrance was pervasive, tugging at Ji Shu’s heartstrings. The more she tried not to think about it, the clearer the image of Li Mengwan kissing her yesterday afternoon became.

The thunder stopped, the rain subsided, and Li Mengwan’s shallow breathing lingered by her ear. Though she was lying on the bed, Ji Shu didn’t feel the slightest bit sleepy.

Suddenly, a warm body pressed against her from behind. Ji Shu nearly let out a scream of surprise. Steadying her nerves, she spoke softly, “Are you still scared? It’s okay, the thunder has stopped now.”

There was no further movement from behind. Ji Shu guessed that Li Mengwan had fallen asleep. While she breathed a sigh of relief, she remained stiff and dared not move. She didn’t notice that the person behind her had her eyes wide open.

Eventually, Ji Shu drifted into a deep sleep. When she woke up again, the day was bright, and sunlight was streaming in. Turning her head, she found Li Mengwan sleeping in her arms. At such close range, she noticed that her features were not only exquisite but her porcelain skin was flawless.

With her long, narrow phoenix eyes closed, the sharpness of her face softened. Her red lips looked even more supple in the sunlight; even without makeup, she surpassed most people. She looked like a delicate porcelain beauty—untouchable, yet inviting touch.

Ji Shu’s heart raced. she instinctively lightened her breathing, afraid to disturb her. However, Ji Hen’s gruff voice, more annoying than the village rooster, called out: “Sis! The sun is up, get out of bed! Didn’t you say we’re planting cabbage today? You have to go to town this afternoon to get the subsidy; you can’t afford to be lazy.”

The main concern was the 400,000 yuan. Saving that much in three years was hard enough; sleeping in would only make it more hopeless.

Li Mengwan’s eyelashes fluttered. When she opened her eyes, she looked a bit dazed. “Sister?” She seemed to have forgotten that she was the one who invited Ji Shu into bed the night before.

Ji Shu’s breath hitched. She quickly pulled away. “I don’t know why it ended up like this, I’m sorry.” She truly didn’t know she would hug Li Mengwan in her sleep; she never had such a habit before.

Forgot she was at the very edge, Ji Shu tumbled right off the bed.

Li Mengwan’s eyes cleared. “Why are you saying sorry, Sister? I was the one who wanted to sleep with you.” A trace of shyness appeared on her face. “As for this morning… maybe my sleeping posture isn’t very good. Do you mind, Sister?”

“How could I?”

Ji Shu, having practiced martial arts since childhood, had extraordinary reflexes and was already standing. Flustered by Li Mengwan’s words, she felt a wave of shame. “It was my fault.” Such a beautiful person couldn’t possibly have a bad sleeping posture. Looking at how we were, I was clearly the one holding her.

She’s lost her memory, yet she’s still so considerate… Ji Shu was gradually forgetting that Li Mengwan was once a cold-faced CEO.

Under Ji Hen’s repeated urging, the two didn’t say much more. Since they had slept in their clothes, they quickly tidied up and walked out.

The weather was good today, though the ground was still damp from the heavy rain. After breakfast, Ji Shu changed back into her dirty clothes and shoes from yesterday. Her wet clothes had mostly dried overnight, and though the shoes were still damp, it didn’t matter since they’d get dirty in the fields anyway.

Ji Shu looked at Li Mengwan’s clean white shirt and white shoes and hesitated. “The fields are very dirty. Why don’t you wait for me at home?”

Since the tilling was done, planting cabbage wouldn’t take long. Ji Da-niu and his brother probably wouldn’t cause trouble again so soon. But to be safe, Ji Shu said to Ji Hen, who was grabbing a hoe, “You stay home too. I’ll go alone today.”

The system protested immediately: “Host, what is wrong with you? Have you forgotten our goal is to lead Ji Hen to farm? He finally agreed, and you’re pushing him away! Tell me, are you still dazed from Li Mengwan’s kiss yesterday?”

Ji Shu’s ears turned beet red. “What nonsense! I’m not— wait, how do you know? Are you watching everything I do and think?”

System: “Don’t panic, Host. I can’t read the thoughts you want to keep hidden. However, I can see events that don’t involve anything ‘below the neck.’ For example, I can see her kiss you, but I can’t see you bathe. Now explain why you’re leaving Ji Hen behind.”

Ji Shu ignored the system.

Ji Hen didn’t understand either. “Why? Wouldn’t it be faster if I helped? Then you and Little Wan could go to town earlier.” Then he realized, “Are you afraid of leaving Little Wan home alone? Fine, at least you have a conscience.” He put down the hoe.

But Li Mengwan shook her head. “I want to go with Sister. I can help and I’m not afraid of the dirt. Brother Ji’s back seems hurt; he’s worked hard enough lately. Let him rest.”

Ji Shu frowned and looked at Ji Hen. He instinctively touched his lower back, looking moved. “It’s nothing, I just slipped while running in the rain yesterday. I can—” Little Wan noticed and cared about me! Too bad such a good woman chose my cousin.

Li Mengwan interrupted him. “Brother Ji, you should rest. Sister and I are getting engaged soon; we’d feel bad if we kept troubling you.”

Ji Hen was stunned. He wanted to say he did it willingly, but the reminder of the engagement dampened his spirits. Right, they are the family.

In the end, Ji Shu had to agree. She didn’t even realize how her plan to keep Li Mengwan home turned into leaving Ji Hen home instead.

Inevitably, even though Li Mengwan only helped scatter seeds, her shoes got filthy. What distressed Ji Shu most was that Li Mengwan slipped; though the fall wasn’t heavy, the white shirt she just changed into yesterday was now too dirty to wear.

When they returned, Ji Shu wanted to return the set of new clothes Li Mengwan had lent her, but since she had slept in them, they smelled like her. It felt inappropriate.

“I’ll just wear yesterday’s set. It’s only a little dirty,” Li Mengwan said before Ji Shu could speak. “I’m sorry, Sister, I might have a slight obsession with cleanliness, which is why I didn’t wear the other set yesterday.”

Ji Shu could only offer a dry “It’s okay.”

Finally, the two of them went to town together. When they appeared before Ji Xiaoru, she furrowed her brows. “Ji Shu, where did you get the money? You’re even wearing matching couple’s outfits now.”

Changed her clothes and she actually looks somewhat decent, Ji Xiaoru thought.
