The CEO Omega I Picked Up Has Run Away - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
After bathing, Ji Shu changed into the new clothes Li Mengwan had given her: a basic white hooded sweatshirt, light tan trousers, and beige sneakers.
She was taller and leaner than Li Mengwan, but the clothes were oversized to begin with, so they fit well enough. The shoes were a size too small and a bit tight, but they were still far better than her old, broken rubber boots.
The house didn’t have a hairdryer. Ji Shu rubbed her hair with an old towel until it was damp and walked out with her hair loose and messy.
Ji Hen froze when he saw her, his face quickly darkening. “Typical! I was wondering why Little Wan was wearing her old clothes again. Turns out you took her new ones.”
Before Ji Shu could explain, Li Mengwan’s soft voice drifted from the side. “I gave them to Sister. I saw she had nothing to wear. One change of clothes is enough for me; I don’t need that many anyway.”
She looked at Ji Shu, her eyes shimmering. “Sister looks really good in those.”
Just as I imagined, Li Mengwan thought.
Ji Shu looked back, and their gazes locked. Li Mengwan bit her lip softly and was the first to look down, playing the part of a shy girl who didn’t dare meet her eyes. Ji Shu’s heart warmed. She licked her lips, where the ghost of that kiss still lingered. Heat spread from her ears to her face, and she blushed uncontrollably.
The rain hadn’t stopped, and the sound of it hitting the ground was loud, yet Ji Shu felt as if the world had gone silent. In her mind, the entire world consisted of only her and Li Mengwan. She couldn’t hide her smile; when a person is truly happy, it shows, and Ji Shu was not one for deep schemes.
She didn’t realize that with her decent features, this clean, sunny smile was exactly the kind that made Omegas’ hearts flutter.
What a shame I didn’t get to breathe in more of that rose scent earlier, Li Mengwan thought, her gaze flickering as she toyed with a jade bracelet on her wrist. A rose in bud is so fresh. If I don’t pluck it and hide it soon, others will notice. Then I’ll have to fight for it.
Her cold, enchanting aura was the polar opposite of the “shy girl” she was pretending to be.
The damp wind blew against Ji Shu’s face, but it couldn’t cool the heat inside her. She shifted her gaze and ran right into Ji Hen’s suspicious glare. His face practically screamed: What did you two just do in there?
“…” To avoid awkward questions, Ji Shu blurted out, “I’ll go cook.”
The heavy rain lasted for hours. The old wooden house leaked badly, and the straw on the floor was soaked through it was no longer fit to sleep on. This was the first time Ji Hen had faced such a situation since bringing Li Mengwan home.
After dinner, he looked at the wet straw with a frown. “What now? I can manage on the table for a night, but what about you, Sis? You and Little Wan…”
There were no inns in the village, and no one would take them in. Since they were getting engaged in a few days, sleeping together was the only logical solution. Ji Hen had gradually accepted their relationship.
Ji Shu’s heart tightened. Before Ji Hen could finish, she cut him off: “It’s fine. You guys sleep. I’ll stay out here and figure something out.”
A cold wind whipped through the gaps in the door—the ones Ji Da-niu and his brother had damaged. Ji Hen moved away from the draft and stuffed some straw into the cracks. “Where are you going in this rain? Don’t tell me you’re going to look for Ji Xiaoru again. You have Little Wan now. Besides, she wouldn’t help you anyway.”
Years ago, on a rainy night like this, Ji Xiaoru had helped Ji Shu once. Ever since then, the original host had pestered her relentlessly. The whole village knew about it and mocked Ji Shu for being a “toad lusting after a swan.”
“Ji Hen! Can you… stop bringing up the past? That was then, this is now.” Ji Shu instinctively looked at Li Mengwan.
Sure enough, Li Mengwan looked heartbroken. She bit her lip, her eyes red. “Does Sister really want to find Ji Xiaoru? Please… don’t go.”
“No, I… don’t listen to his nonsense!” Ji Shu panicked. “I won’t go out, okay?”
She figured she could stay up one night. There was still power; she could just livestream on her phone all night.
The system sighed in her head: “The host finally has the motivation to make money. It’s a good thing I’ve been making daily vlogs of your life and posting them on TikTok.”
Ji Shu was annoyed. “Didn’t you say Li Mengwan doesn’t want to be found by her people before she regains her memory?”
“Don’t worry,” the system replied. “Only Ji Hen’s face is in the videos. Even if Li Mengwan appears, it’s only her voice. By the way, aren’t you a bit too concerned about her? You don’t care about farming this much. Hmph!”
Ji Shu paused. “I just don’t want trouble. And I don’t like being on camera. Xiao Tiantian, if you act on your own again, I’m unbinding.” The system wasn’t threatened, but it agreed anyway.
Ji Shu planned to stay awake, but at 10:00 PM, the power went out. The house plunged into total darkness.
Li Mengwan’s voice came from the bed: “Sister, aren’t you coming up?”
In the darkness, Ji Shu’s other senses became hypersensitive. Li Mengwan’s breathing and the scent of her Omega pheromones stimulated Ji Shu’s nerves. Her scalp felt numb. “I’ll… play on my phone for a bit.”
“But…” Li Mengwan’s voice trailed off into a sob. “I’m really scared of thunder, Sister.”
As if on cue, a loud crack of thunder shook the house.
Ji Shu: “…” Don’t be scared.
She didn’t know how it happened, but by the time she snapped out of it, she was lying on the bed next to Li Mengwan. Under the thin blanket, the Omega’s fragrance was overwhelming.
