The CEO Omega I Picked Up Has Run Away - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Ji Hen wasn’t a man of ceremony. He took a simple rinse and was finished in less than three minutes.
Drying his hair as he stepped out of the house in clean clothes, he walked over to Ji Shu and Li Mengwan. “The water I boiled is enough for one more person. Who’s going first?”
Back when they were in town, he had bought himself a new set of clothes. Now that he was changed, he looked much more spirited. In comparison, Ji Shu looked like the scruffiest one there.
The original Ji Shu would never have tolerated appearing in public like this, but the current one wasn’t in such a rush.
“You go first,” Ji Shu said to Li Mengwan. Getting sick would cost a fortune in medical bills.
Li Mengwan hesitated. “But what about Sister? You’re more soaked than I am.”
Ji Shu comforted her, “It’s fine. I’m an Alpha—tough as nails.”
Ji Hen chimed in, “Yeah, we grew up in the dirt. A little rain is nothing. You, on the other hand, shouldn’t catch a cold, Little Wan.”
After taking off her jacket, Ji Shu was only wearing a thin tank top. The skin exposed was incredibly pale certainly not “tough and thick” as she claimed. While she hadn’t had a proper bath in days, she had been keeping her limbs clean.
What a fresh, fragrant rose, Li Mengwan thought. Her gaze swept over Ji Shu’s frame before she quickly looked away and said obediently, “Then I’ll go first, Sister.”
“Go ahead.”
Ji Shu suddenly felt an urge to put her dirty jacket back on. But it was damp and uncomfortable, and she’d have to take it off soon anyway.
As the Omega bathed, the two Alphas stayed a respectful distance away. They stood under the eaves, chatting aimlessly. Mostly, it was Ji Hen talking. “The tilling is done. What do you plan to plant? Are you really going to stick to farming?”
“Yes,” Ji Shu said. She looked at the package of Chinese cabbage seeds she had received from the system after finishing the tilling task. “We’re planting cabbage.” This week’s tasks were all centered around this.
“Cabbage?!” Ji Hen’s voice nearly cracked. “Do you know how many people in this village grow cabbage? Almost every household! Most of it rots in the fields because they can’t sell it. Besides, the market is in town. We don’t even have a vehicle. Are you going to walk there every time? I know you’ve always been unreliable, but for Little Wan’s sake, can you be a bit more realistic? If you can’t give me a convincing reason today, you’re coming to town with me tomorrow to find a real job.”
Ji Shu couldn’t give him a logical reason, but she knew how to handle Ji Hen. “If you don’t farm with me, aren’t you afraid Little Wan will have a hard life following me?”
“You… have you no shame?” Ji Hen wanted to curse.
Ji Shu sighed. “Just give me some time. One month. If we haven’t made money in a month, I’ll do whatever you say.” It wasn’t about shame; the system’s requirement was to lead the male lead to prosperity through farming.
Ji Hen was almost persuaded. Just as he was wavering, a scream erupted from inside the house.
Ji Hen instinctively lunged forward, but Ji Shu was faster. Realizing the situation, Ji Hen stopped with a bitter smile.
Ji Shu reached the bedroom door but didn’t push it open immediately. “What happened? Are you okay?”
There was a long silence. Just as Ji Shu was about to burst in, Li Mengwan’s soft voice drifted out: “Sister… I… I forgot to bring my change of clothes.”
Ji Shu froze. She didn’t know how to respond. A moment later, she realized the room Li Mengwan was bathing in was the very room where she slept the room where the new clothes had been placed. There was no way she could have “forgotten” them.
But by then, Ji Shu had already stepped into the room.
The sight that met her eyes seared into her mind, leaving her brain a total blank. All she could see was an ethereal woman with a slender waist, porcelain skin, a flushed face, and timid eyes. The room was flooded with the intense scent of spring, nearly drowning her.
The discomfort at the back of her neck flared up. A voice in her head kept whispering: Go to her. Bite her. Make her cry.
“Sister, could you bring me the shirt and pants hanging in the other room?” Li Mengwan asked shyly, holding her old clothes in front of her for cover.
“O-Of course.”
Ji Shu fled the room, failing to notice the meaningful smile that played across the corners of Li Mengwan’s lips.
When Li Mengwan finally emerged, wearing the white shirt and slacks she had on when they first met, she handed the set of new clothes to Ji Shu. Only then did Ji Shu realize she had misunderstood her.
“Sister, you don’t have anything clean to change into. Wear these,” Li Mengwan said.
So sweet. How could there be such a considerate girl in the world? Ji Shu felt a sudden, abnormal thumping in her chest. Looking at Li Mengwan again, she seemed different more radiant, more alluring.
Suddenly, Li Mengwan leaned in, wrapped her arms around Ji Shu, and gave her a lightning-fast peck on the lips. “Sister keeps staring at me. Is this what you wanted?”
With that, she bolted out of the hut, leaving Ji Shu rooted to the spot. This time, it wasn’t just her ears her entire body felt like it was on fire.
After a long while, Ji Shu touched her lips with her finger, an unconscious smile tugging at her mouth. “System… I think I might like her a little.”
System: “…” A little? It’s clearly more than a little. However, the system didn’t want to encourage this. “Wake up, Host. Think about your legs. Think about your eyes. Honestly, at this rate, even your mouth might not be safe.”
Ji Shu’s face drained of color, turning from red to a pale white. She walked woodenly to the other room, scooped a ladle of cold water, and poured it directly over her head. Finally, she was calm.
