The CEO Omega I Picked Up Has Run Away - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The three of them arrived at the field.
Ji Hen motioned for Li Mengwan to sit on the rock and wait as she had yesterday, but Li Mengwan reached out and tugged on Ji Shu’s sleeve. “Sister, I’m afraid of snakes.”
Ji Shu felt conflicted. She couldn’t leave Li Mengwan home alone, but she also couldn’t stop farming. Before she could offer a solution, Li Mengwan spoke up: “Sister, can I just stay right by your side while you work?”
It was a solution, but it was incredibly hot out. Moreover, that bizarre dream from last night still had Ji Shu feeling rattled; even now, she felt a bit jittery looking at Li Mengwan’s face. She remembered those red lips that had “eaten” her in the dream all too clearly—they were identical to the ones in front of her.
Ji Shu looked up at the scorching sun and said tactfully, “Following me will be very sunny. I sent yesterday’s snake away; there shouldn’t be any more.”
She was genuinely worried about the delicate “CEO” getting a sunburn. If she regained her memories later, she might add “skin damage” to the list of grievances to settle.
Ji Shu hesitated for a moment and handed her phone to Li Mengwan. “Here, play with this for a bit. We’ll be done soon.”
Li Mengwan didn’t take it. Instead, the corners of her eyes turned red, and a misty glaze covered her pupils. “But I’m really, really scared of snakes. Please, Sister?”
Ji Shu’s heart tightened. She looked away. “…Fine.”
A little sun is good for vitamin D anyway, she rationalized. She’s too soft… I just can’t say no. Ji Shu couldn’t help but wonder: how could this person be the terrifying CEO who breaks people’s legs?
The system chimed in: “Host, I never said Li Mengwan personally broke Ji Hen’s legs. He willingly chose to become disabled for her. Also, the current Li Mengwan is nothing like the recovered one. Don’t believe me? Watch this.”
A short video clip played in Ji Shu’s mind. Inside a high-end private lounge, Li Mengwan dressed in a sharp white suit used her stiletto heel to repeatedly grind the back of a woman’s hand into the floor. Her expression was icy and ruthless. To top it off, she poured a glass of red wine over the woman.
Ji Shu’s own hand twinged in phantom pain. The difference between the two versions was indeed… massive.
Seeing Ji Shu sufficiently spooked, the system continued: “That happened half a month ago. That woman offended her. Host, do you think your fate will be any better if you offend her? So, keep your head down, till the land with Ji Hen, and don’t let beauty cloud your judgment.”
Ji Shu nodded frantically in her mind. I’d definitely end up worse. She didn’t believe for a second that the recovered Li Mengwan would still “like” her.
However, she had already agreed to let her follow. Ji Shu looked around, saw a large banana leaf nearby, and cut it for her. “Use this as a parasol.” Maybe if I’m nice now, I won’t end up like the lady in the video.
For the rest of the morning, wherever Ji Shu tilled, Li Mengwan followed with her banana leaf. She stood about half a meter away, not interfering, just watching quietly. When Ji Shu stopped to rest, Li Mengwan would hand her water and wipe her sweat with a tissue.
Ji Shu was so startled by the gesture she could barely speak. “N-no need, I’ll do it.” She snatched the tissue and water, turning her back to Li Mengwan.
Li Mengwan said nothing, merely observing Ji Shu from top to bottom. She made mental notes: Handsome face, obedient personality, good physique, very strong. Looks like the type who listens to his wife. Could use a bit more muscle, but overall rating: 9/10.
Ji Shu wiped her sweat and took a gulp of water from the bamboo tube before realizing Li Mengwan had just drunk from this. The rim seemed to carry that unique fragrance. Ji Shu froze. She couldn’t swallow, but she couldn’t spit it out either.
While Ji Shu was agonizing, Ji Hen was nearly grinding his teeth into powder from jealousy. Unable to do anything else, he funneled all his frustration into his hoe. He actually ended up tilling twice as much as Ji Shu.
By noon, three-fifths of the field was done. The sun was brutal. Even Li Mengwan, who did nothing, was flushed and sweaty. When she took the bamboo tube Ji Shu had just used and drank from it, Ji Shu’s heart nearly beat out of her chest.
“That water…” Ji Shu started, not knowing if she should stop her.
Li Mengwan looked up, puzzled. “Is there something wrong with the water, Sister?”
The problem is that you’re drinking after me! Ji Shu screamed internally. Outwardly, she was a statue of calm. “The water… it’s been heated by the sun. It won’t quench your thirst. Let’s head back.”
Li Mengwan saw her serious face and smiled. “Is that why Sister hardly drank any?”
“Yes.” Ji Shu turned and walked away.
Back at the wooden hut, Ji Shu took over the cooking duties again. She took the opportunity to start her second livestream.
This time, she ignored the system’s “unzip” suggestions. She didn’t speak a word; she just chopped. Green peppers, potatoes—everything was sliced into perfect, uniform threads with the precision of a professional chef. Since the system wasn’t directing her face, the camera focused entirely on her hands.
Surprisingly, this attracted a huge crowd. The viewer count broke a hundred and kept climbing.
-
Daaaang, these hands look delicious.
-
Can the streamer show her face?
-
Please, just one look!
-
Insider info: Her face is as ‘tasty’ as her hands.
-
Don’t cook anymore, come to my city and let me support you!
Suddenly, the sound of digital fireworks erupted from the phone. A viewer had sent a high-value gift that lasted for over a minute.
The system was shocked: “Wealthy ladies are really curious about what they can’t see! Host, the tips this time have already reached over a thousand yuan!” Because the system bypassed platform fees, Ji Shu got every cent. “Quick, say something nice to thank them! You might get more!”
As the fireworks faded, comments flooded the screen.
-
I saw it! I saw her face just now! She’s gorgeous!
-
Streamer, look at me again! Please!
Ji Shu remained expressionless. Is this what the system meant by ‘farming wealth’? What does this have to do with farming? She was about to hit the “end stream” button when Li Mengwan walked in.
“Sister, is the food ready? I smell the stir-fry, I’m so hungry.”
The coldness on Ji Shu’s face softened involuntarily. “Almost. We can eat in a minute.”
The chat went wild.
-
Wait, did she just smile?!
-
That voice! Is that her sister? Show us!
-
Based on that glimpse, the girl is a beauty too!
-
Move the camera, I want to see!
Ji Shu didn’t see any of it. She clicked the phone off the moment Li Mengwan approached.
After lunch, at around 1:00 PM, the three sat on rocks outside to rest. Ji Shu used the time to browse world news on her phone. There were scandals and celebrity gossip, but notably, nothing about a missing CEO named Li Mengwan.
She was engrossed in a headline when Li Mengwan leaned in close. “Sister.”
“Yes?”
“When are we getting engaged?”
Cough, cough! Ji Shu choked on her water and fell off her rock. “What?”
Li Mengwan pursed her lips slightly. “Sister said we’d get engaged this month. So, when?”
Ji Shu rubbed her forehead. She had agreed, but why the rush? “When do you think is appropriate, Little Wan?” I’ll just follow her lead so she can’t blame me later.
Li Mengwan reached out to help Ji Shu up. “What does Sister think about… within three days?”
Before Ji Shu could process that, Ji Hen piped up: “Sounds good! Within three days. Sis, you’re almost twenty-five. You better register quickly at the Management Center so the government doesn’t assign you a random Omega.”
Ji Shu’s mood plummeted. Why bring that up? Then she realized a problem. “She doesn’t have an ID or a household register. Is that okay?”
“No problem,” Ji Hen assured her. “As long as we have the banquet and live together, it’s a common-law marriage. The state recognizes it. The villagers and I will be your witnesses.”
Ji Shu ran out of excuses. She forced a smile. “As long as Little Wan thinks it’s okay. I’m just… afraid you’ll regret it.”
