- Chapter 3 - Cannon Fodder Ex-Boyfriend (3), Here to Snatch Someone?
At this moment, the dynamic between Li Qingran and Su Jingyi seemed to undergo a shift.
Even though they remained in each other’s arms, the initially dominant Omega could now only manage to stay upright by leaning into the hands the Alpha had wrapped around his waist. Meanwhile, the Alpha, who had been pinned against the door earlier, was now holding Su Jingyi in a way that wasn’t overtly aggressive but was heavy with pressure. He lowered his head, bringing his nose close to the protrusion on the back of the other’s neck.
When Li Qingran walked outside alone, strangers often mistook him for a tall Omega based on his beautiful face.
Gentle, humble, beautiful, and slender.
This was the consistent impression other students at the research institute had of him.
However, when he was with Su Jingyi, especially now, anyone passing by would never mistake him for a weak, non-threatening Omega.
In the dim room, the tall Alpha drew the Omega, who was half a head shorter, into his embrace. Whether by instinct or as a test, he tucked the slender figure tightly against him. From behind, if it weren’t for the hands clutching his coat in nervous tension, no one would realize there was another person hidden in his arms.
This was the same Omega who, twenty-four hours ago, had stood strikingly and coldly in a dormitory at the dance academy, watching someone pack their things and leave the school.
Su Jingyi felt like he was losing the ability to breathe.
In the past, he was always dissatisfied that Li Qingran would only release a tiny bit of pheromones at a time. It meant the level of comfort he received was never enough.
Now, he could finally have his fill.
But, was it perhaps a bit too much?
The cold, woody-scented pheromones flooded toward Su Jingyi from all directions. Even though this was a scent he had always been obsessed with and craved, when it became so thick it was almost choking, Su Jingyi had to admit he was struggling to handle it.
Every inch of the surrounding air seemed completely occupied by Li Qingran’s pheromones. With every breath, they forced their way into his body with crude intensity.
The chilly pheromones made his skin turn cold, yet they made the blood inside him boil even more.
The intersection of cold and heat made Su Jingyi’s body tremble uncontrollably. The gland on the back of his neck grew hotter, and the lemon scent radiating from it became even more concentrated.
Yet Li Qingran was not led by the pheromones to lose his sanity, as described in textbooks. He didn’t bite down recklessly to completely occupy the Omega and make him his own.
Li Qingran just stared quietly at that protrusion, watching its red, swollen, yet still smooth surface.
That was a place that had never been invaded by an Alpha. Just one light bite would leave a distinct mark, a signifier that he temporarily belonged to a certain Alpha.
A certain Alpha whose name the system had repeatedly warned Li Qingran about. But now.
Li Qingran watched the protrusion that swayed slightly with Su Jingyi’s trembling. He licked the tip of his tooth, leaned in even closer, and then extended his tongue to give it a light lick.
“!!!”
Almost instantly, Su Jingyi shook as if having a spasm. His hands, clutching Li Qingran’s coat, tightened uncontrollably.
He looked as though he were in immense pain.
But the Alpha, who usually cared deeply about his emotions and feelings, did not stop. He even increased the strength of his hold on Su Jingyi, and before the other could completely slide out of his arms, he took that piece of flesh into his mouth.
In the next second, a rich lemon flavor exploded in Li Qingran’s mouth, darting everywhere before blending with that cold woody fragrance.
The Alpha’s canines, meant for claiming territory, suddenly became very itchy. He couldn’t wait to pierce the soft flesh in his mouth and sink his teeth deep into that spot. While tasting more of the lemon pheromones, he wanted to pour his own pheromones in, making this Omega in his arms completely stained with his scent from the outside in.
Perhaps because Li Qingran’s sense of aggression was too obvious at this moment, Su Jingyi unconsciously curled his fingertips. Even though what the Alpha was doing was exactly what he had looked forward to, it was his first time after all, and he couldn’t help but feel nervous.
The sensation of the most vulnerable part of his body being held in the Alpha’s mouth made his hair stand on end, sparking a primitive instinct to flee.
However, he couldn’t escape.
The pervasive Alpha pheromones left his body without a shred of strength. He could only stay obediently in the other’s arms to be gnawed, pierced, and marked.
But just as he felt that soft flesh finally being bitten by the Alpha’s canines:
“Buzz, buzz, buzz!”
A phone vibration, not loud but exceptionally distinct in the quiet environment, suddenly echoed between them.
Su Jingyi’s phone had been silenced the moment he snuck out of the banquet, so this vibration could only be coming from Li Qingran’s phone.
“Qingran?”
Su Jingyi clearly felt Li Qingran’s movements stop. Although his lips remained on the Omega’s gland, the reckless momentum of being driven by pheromones had vanished.
Then, he felt the strength Li Qingran used to hold him decrease significantly. As the pressure lessened, the Alpha’s lips left the back of his neck.
The atmospheric tension in the room was instantly shattered by the vibration. Not only was Su Jingyi forced to regain some sanity, but Li Qingran had become completely awake.
He straightened up and pulled his phone from his pocket.
It was a call from an unknown number with no contact name.
Su Jingyi didn’t want to deal with it, but Li Qingran chose to answer.
The next second, an exasperated male voice erupted from the receiver:
“Su Jingyi, do you have a death wish? Today is Grandpa Su’s birthday! Just how much trouble are you going to cause? Do you know how many people at the banquet are looking for you? And yet you”
“Zixuan?” Hearing a familiar voice, Su Jingyi froze for a moment. Once he realized who it was, his brow furrowed deeply. It was as if he grew thorns all over his body in an instant, and his voice became sharp:
“How do you have this phone number?!”
On the other end, the person who had been passionately accusing Su Jingyi of his excessive behavior tonight suddenly stalled. After a long pause, an exasperated reply came through:
“Is that what’s important right now?”
“To me, it is the most important thing!”
Su Jingyi was relentless. “Why do you have my boyfriend’s phone number?!”
Su Jingyi naturally wouldn’t think this was Li Qingran’s fault; it had to be someone on Qi Zixuan’s side playing tricks.
Qi Zixuan hadn’t expected that after traveling so far in a hurry to bring his friend back to the right path, the first obstacle he’d face wouldn’t be resistance from the “scumbag” but an interrogation from his own brother.
Qi Zixuan felt the pain of being deeply backstabbed, but knowing Su Jingyi, he answered patiently:
“It was Gu Shiyu who gave it to me. I called you dozens of times and couldn’t get through. I had no choice but to”
“Gu Shiyu? Gu Shiyu again!”
Before Qi Zixuan could finish his explanation, at the mere mention of the name “Gu Shiyu,” Su Jingyi began to break down:
“What exactly does he want? What do you all want? I said I’d go back once I finished handling things here. Why are you all in such a hurry? There are still more than three hours until midnight. I’m not going to miss the cake cutting!”
“You indeed won’t miss the cake cutting.”
The voice on the other end changed to a deep Alpha tone. The tone was incredibly flat, so flat that Li Qingran couldn’t detect any thoughts regarding Su Jingyi leaving the banquet halfway through. He was simply stating a fixed fact:
“But I imagine Grandpa Su wouldn’t want to see his favorite grandson show up at his 70th birthday party covered in the pheromones of a strange Alpha.”
Su Jingyi clenched his fists. “Are you investigating me?”
“There’s no need to investigate something like this,” the voice replied calmly. “So, for the sake of the Su family not becoming the laughingstock of the social circle for the next week, and to let that little boyfriend of yours stay hidden a bit longer, I suggest you hurry up, fix your clothes, and come downstairs. Zixuan and I can wait for another five minutes.”
With that, without waiting for Su Jingyi to reply, the person hung up, as if certain that Su Jingyi would obediently come down.
This was exactly what Su Jingyi hated most about Gu Shiyu: always acting high and mighty, as if everyone were transparent before him.
At this moment, he really wanted to just recklessly let Li Qingran mark him and slap Gu Shiyu’s eternally composed and calm face.
But he couldn’t.
Furthermore, Li Qingran, having finished his “experiment,” was no longer cooperating.
After the short-lived chaos in the pheromone-soaked room, Li Qingran finally saw off an unwilling Su Jingyi.
It was only after Su Jingyi left that 888, who had been tossed into the “dark room,” was finally allowed back into the light.
“Host, what on earth is going on? Why did the person in the room turn into the Protagonist Shou!” The system’s voice sounded completely broken.
Li Qingran, however, didn’t feel he had any obligation to explain. On the contrary, he wanted to ask the system something.
“Didn’t you always say the world plot is fixed? That I just need to perform my parts and the protagonists’ plot will automatically progress? So, can you explain why, after I’ve clearly finished all my cannon fodder plotlines, I’m still stuck in this world and haven’t clocked out?”
“Uh”
888 couldn’t answer.
In previous missions, it had indeed encountered hosts who truly fell in love with a protagonist and refused to follow the plot. That was why, from the start, it had been dedicated to brainwashing Li Qingran into remembering the truth that the Protagonist Shou only belongs to the Protagonist Gong. He hadn’t expected that while this host was actually very well-behaved, the Protagonist Shou’s side had deviated beyond recognition.
Li Qingran listened to 888 stuttering for a long time without managing a proper sentence.
He wasn’t in a hurry. He even had the leisure to take a tour of the room Su Jingyi had carefully selected. He picked up a rose petal scattered on the snow-white bed and walked slowly to the floor-to-ceiling window. He looked down at the three people arguing in the plaza below.
To be precise, it was two people.
The third was simply leaning against a car, watching them argue. He didn’t participate, nor did he leave. He seemed to be a mere bystander.
As Li Qingran watched him watching the other two, he heard 888 let out an excited shout:
“Host, I know now!”
“The main system just replied to me! It says this is primarily due to an issue on the Protagonist Shou’s side. His hatred level toward you didn’t rise as the world plot predicted, which means the subsequent plot can’t proceed, and you can’t leave the world. The only way for the host to leave now is to max out the Protagonist Shou’s hatred level and complete the heartbreak breakup plot.”
Li Qingran didn’t even bother to say much. “Is there any difference between this and my previous mission?”
The cheating plot has already been executed, and the result was visible: zero effect. So how was he supposed to make the Protagonist Shou hate him next?
“About that!” 888 had clearly received guidance from the main system, and its voice sounded full of confidence:
“For the upcoming plot, you don’t need to use your brain to plan at all. According to the world plot’s big data calculations, the Protagonist Gong is already prepared to step in and snatch the person away!”
“The Protagonist Gong is stepping in?”
Li Qingran instinctively looked at the man leaning against the car. “What does he plan to do?”
“We don’t know yet. Big data can only calculate certain strong intentions of the protagonists, but it can’t peek into specific details.”
So for now, they only knew the Protagonist Gong had the intention to snatch the person. But the specific plan, the timing, and even the target were unknown.
“But he’s the Protagonist Gong! The person he wants to snatch must be the Protagonist Shou! So don’t worry, Host. When the time comes, we just need to cooperate with his plan, and we’ll definitely be able to clock out smoothly!”
Is that so?
Li Qingran didn’t mirror 888’s optimism. He simply turned around calmly, preparing to go back to school to rest and prepare for his upcoming “overtime” plot.
And at the moment he turned around, whether out of a whim or something long-planned, the man who was about to get into the car suddenly looked up toward the hotel once more.
The place his gaze landed seemed to be the exact spot where Li Qingran had been standing for a long time.
