- The Cannon Fodder Real Young Master is a Slime?!
- Chapter 7 - Report What to the Police?! What a Regret.
The moment the man uttered those words, the central parties involved and the eavesdropping crowd looking for drama all fell dead silent.
Shi Yunmu placed the goblet in his hand to the side and asked with utter sincerity, “Do you have some kind of issue with your eyes?”
Are you blind?
The bystanders listening in on the conversation all wanted to nod in agreement: Yeah, is the young master of the Sheng family blind?
Soaked in the indescribable looks from the surrounding crowd, Sheng Jinghuai’s smile stiffened slightly.
Beside him, Shi Yubai reached out and tugged at the man’s sleeve again, signaling him to stop talking.
Sheng Jinghuai, the Crown Prince of the Sheng family, was excellent in every way, except for the fact that he was so overly coddled and spoiled by his family that he simply blurted out whatever came to his mind, completely detached from reality.
Sheng Jinghuai was a beat slow in realizing his own blunder. Indeed, anyone with eyes could see which of the two Shi family young masters was more attractive. It was the kind of stark difference where one couldn’t even lie to compliment Shi Yubai as being better-looking than Shi Yunmu.
After a few seconds of silence, Sheng Jinghuai straightened his spine and changed his tune to salvage the situation. “Heh, your talent and character still fall completely short compared to your brother’s.”
The person he was belittling didn’t feel hurt in the slightest. Instead, the sincerity on his face deepened. “You should say less. You’re really just making it worse the more you dig yourself in.”
Of course, he wouldn’t mind if the guy spoke a few more words. He noticed that the Rot Silkworm up on the chandelier was being drawn down by these volatile, surging emotions. By the looks of it, it was about to crawl down.
Sheng Jinghuai choked on his words.
Shi Yubai could not take it anymore. He tried to pull Sheng Jinghuai away, not forgetting to smooth things over. “Yunmu, Jinghuai just had a bit too much to drink. Don’t blame him.”
“So drinking can actually cause vision impairment,” Shi Yunmu said, enlightened.
Shi Yubai: “……That’s not how it works.”
But leaving right now would be no different from openly admitting defeat to Shi Yunmu. Sheng Jinghuai’s face darkened as he questioned Shi Yunmu once more, “Then how do you explain the time you pushed Yubai down and almost caused him to get into a car accident?”
How to explain it?
Shi Yunmu was too lazy to even bother explaining.
In the original owner’s memory, it was clearly Shi Yubai who used a forced camera angle to make it look like “Shi Yunmu” had pushed him on the surveillance footage. He hadn’t expected this brain-dead, love-struck young master of the Sheng family to believe it so easily and hold onto the grudge until now.
He looked at Sheng Jinghuai with disdain and raised his own arm. “You really are blind. Look at my frame. Do I look like someone who could push anyone?”
Although the original owner had silently taken the blame in the past, the being inside this shell now was a Slime. He would never take responsibility for something he hadn’t done.
Shi Yubai’s eyes flickered, his gaze toward Shi Yunmu carrying a few hints of scrutiny.
This “younger brother” of his seemed different somewhere……?
However, humans living in a normal world naturally wouldn’t think of something like “the soul inside the shell has changed.” Without intending to look deeper into the reasons behind the change, Shi Yubai interrupted Sheng Jinghuai who was still indignantly muttering, “Then you must have used some dirty trick” and relaxed his brows, letting out a slightly bitter smile. “Jinghuai, let’s not bring it up anymore. Let bygones be bygones……”
Sheng Jinghuai’s expression immediately turned into one of heartache. “Yubai, you’re just too soft-hearted……”
Shi Yubai patted him, smiling before speaking, “It’s getting late. I need to take my brother to see Father.”
Glancing unwillingly at Shi Yunmu, who was standing in place yawning, Sheng Jinghuai ultimately chose to shut his mouth. “Alright, you two go ahead.”
Pausing, he reminded him in a low voice, “Fix yourself up a bit later. After all, we are getting engaged.”
Displaying just the right amount of shyness and playful annoyance, Shi Yubai smiled. “Jinghuai, you’re so thoughtful.”
Sheng Jinghuai was coaxed into a good mood by Shi Yubai once again, puffing out his chest and strutting like a victorious rooster.
The Dust Demon remarked, “Don’t you think Shi Yubai acts like a human kindergarten teacher?”
Shi Yunmu almost failed to maintain his expression and burst out laughing.
With this battle concluded, Shi Yunmu had to rush off to the next battlefield.
Under Shi Yubai’s guidance, Shi Yunmu finally got to see the father of the Shi family.
“Dad.” Going up to the second floor, Shi Yubai pushed open the door to the reception room and called out softly.
Unsure of what the person inside said, Shi Yubai considerately closed the door, turning around to smile at Shi Yunmu. “Dad has a guest inside. We need to wait for a moment.”
Shi Yunmu gave an “oh” and leaned over the second-floor railing, looking down.
The Rot Silkworm was moving at a painstakingly slow pace. Only now had it crawled down from the crystal chandelier, single-mindedly making its way toward the prey it had set its sights on.
The Dust Demon sighed, “I wonder which ones among the crowd down there are going to suffer.”
As they spoke, the door to the reception room pushed open from the inside. Several individuals, clearly business partners, walked out. All of them greeted Shi Yubai with smiles, appearing very familiar with him.
At the same time, they subtly swept their gazes over Shi Yunmu, who stood behind Shi Yubai, as if evaluating the worth of this unknown second young master.
Paying no mind to these people’s looks, Shi Yunmu followed Shi Yubai into the reception room.
Sitting on the sofa in the room was a stern-faced, middle-aged man. His identity went without saying: the current person in charge of the Shi family, and also “Shi Yunmu’s” biological father.
Father Shi didn’t look at Shi Yunmu, choosing instead to look over his adoptive son first. “Yubai, where is your mother?”
Shi Yubai’s smile remained unchanged. “Mother is downstairs entertaining the guests.”
Father Shi nodded. “That’s good.”
As if casually mentioning it, he added, “You didn’t have any arguments with the young master of the Sheng family, did you?” He advised, “If he does anything out of line, just yield to him as much as possible.”
After all, the fact that their family could secure so many business collaborations nowadays relied entirely on this future son-in-law. Even though the Shi family looked prestigious on the surface, compared to the Sheng family, they were small fry. Therefore, Father Shi was even more anxious than Shi Yubai for the two of them to marry so that they could tightly hitch themselves to the giant ship that was the Sheng family and reap greater benefits.
“My Lord, look. On your biological father’s back, there’s also a Rot Silkworm,” the Dust Demon observed closely and said.
Shi Yunmu watched coldly from the corner, evaluating, “This Rot Silkworm isn’t fully matured yet. He still has some time left to live.”
Dust Demon: “What a regret.”
Shi Yunmu: “What a regret.”
Though he felt it would be best to consume it himself, it seemed perfectly fine if the target he wanted to devour met a tragic, premature death.
After chatting for a few more moments, Father Shi finally looked toward Shi Yunmu. But compared to the satisfaction he showed when looking at Shi Yubai, the moment his eyes landed on Shi Yunmu, he recalled the meme this rebellious son had sent him last time, and his expression instantly soured.
Father Shi spoke in a stiff tone, “How are things going with your husband?” Speaking of this son-in-law, a flash of obvious disdain crossed Father Shi’s eyes.
Just a measly civil servant; he didn’t even want to waste the effort to maintain a relationship with him.
If it weren’t for the old master of the Shi family lying on his deathbed, whose few remaining wishes included forcing the younger generation to fulfill the marriage alliance agreed upon with his old comrade-in-arms…… how could the fallen Lu family ever have the chance to climb up to socialized with their Shi family?
“It’s alright,” Shi Yunmu replied lazily, leaning against the wall.
Father Shi’s brow furrowed. “Speak with some respect! I am your father!”
Shi Yunmu found it amusing. “You’ve already sold your son for glory, yet you still want me to be polite to you?”
The eyes of both Shi family men snapped instantly onto Shi Yunmu. For a moment, the room fell dead silent.
When a man who cared about his pride encountered someone who completely lacked shame, he couldn’t even squeeze out a few words to curse him.
With veins throbbing on his temple, Father Shi opened his mouth to scold him, only for a servant to push the door open and run inside. The look in the servant’s eyes was filled with terror. “Sir, S-Sir!”
Forced to halt his reprimand, Father Shi looked displeased at the servant who had suddenly barged in. “What is it? Why are you being so reckless?”
The servant’s eyes were wide, his pupils trembling. “Sister Fu, Sister Fu she……”
Father Shi was losing his patience. “What on earth happened to her?”
The servant swallowed hard, finally squeezing the remaining words past his chattering teeth. “Sister Fu is dead!”
“What!” Father Shi bolted to his feet, his face turning incredibly ugly.
Their banquet hadn’t even officially started yet, so how could someone suddenly drop dead?
Father Shi walked quickly over to the servant and commanded sharply, “Where is her body?”
“The garden……” Recalling the woman’s gruesome state of death, the servant still felt terrified. “She said she was going to chase away some stray cats that jumped into the garden, but she didn’t come back after a long time. So we went looking for her…… and then, and then she was dead!”
Father Shi frowned. “Could it be a stroke? A heart attack?”
But right now, there was clearly no time for him to speculate on the cause of death. He took a deep breath and said, “Take me to look.”
“Alright, the Madam has already rushed over there as well.”
Shi Yubai quickly said, “Then I will go too……”
Father Shi turned his head to look at Shi Yubai. “Yubai, you stay behind to comfort the guests. Steady them first, especially the young master of the Sheng family.”
After giving his orders, he looked over at his unseemly biological son. “……”
Forget it, looking at this rebellious son’s state, he probably wouldn’t cause trouble for him.
He was likely just resentful about being forced into a sudden marriage. After all, when he was first brought back, he looked quiet and cowardly. Did he look like someone capable of stirring up a storm?
Clearly not.
But still feeling slightly uneasy, he pointed at Shi Yunmu and said, “Don’t cause trouble, just stay right here!”
With that said, the group filed out of the reception room, leaving Shi Yunmu alone inside.
The youth walked over to the window of the reception room, looking down from above. From here, he could see the Shi family garden perfectly.
The garden was massive, but even from afar, one could see a crowd gathering around a spot, panic spreading among them. A magical creature’s vision was exceptional; Shi Yunmu could easily see the maid’s corpse through the gaps in the crowd.
Blood stained the ground red. The woman’s head was nowhere to be found.
Crawling upon her body was still a Rot Silkworm, appearing as though it was resting comfortably after eating and drinking its fill.
Where the head had gone seemed to go without saying.
After watching for a moment, Shi Yunmu leisurely took out his phone.
The stench at the scene was sickening. Father Shi took one look and almost vomited.
His wife had arrived a bit earlier than him, her expression highly strained. “Old Shi, a murderer couldn’t have broken into our house, right?”
Father Shi’s brow couldn’t relax at all. “Impossible, our security measures are perfectly comprehensive.”
He looked at the gruesome state of the maid’s corpse once more, quickly shifting his gaze away. Snapping his teeth, he said, “Suppress this matter first. Clean up the blood here, and drag the corpse away. Don’t let the guests find out.”
“Then reporting it to the police……”
Father Shi glared at the servant who suggested “reporting to the police.” “Reporting to the police? Report what to the police?! Do you want all the guests to know that such a scandalous thing occurred in our house?!”
The servant silenced himself.
Father Shi was just about to say, “Now that you know, get moving,” when he heard the sound of police sirens gradually drawing nearer.
His face shifted. He scanned the surrounding crowd. “Who called the police?”
Everyone looked at each other; no one answered.
Thinking of something, Father Shi abruptly looked toward the direction of the reception room.
The youth happened to be standing by the window, smiling as he waved his phone.
The culprit behind the call was in an excellent mood. He slowly left the reception room, completely ignoring the fury Father Shi might unleash next.
As he walked downstairs, he lowered his head to look at his phone, typing: [Hubby, this place seems really far from the city center. Will you have time to pick me up later? QWQ]
Watching him type, the Dust Demon couldn’t help but remind him, “Your human husband is still working overtime……”
Shi Yunmu said leisurely, “I’m just asking casually.”
The Dust Demon peeked at the youth’s expression. “……”
By the looks of it, it didn’t seem casual at all. He was clearly typing with the mindset of “Humans should serve Lord Slime well”!
Lu Que didn’t reply immediately, and Shi Yunmu stopped looking at his phone.
He stuffed the phone into his pocket and walked down to the first floor, just in time to see the flashing blue and red lights outside.
The guests had no idea what had happened, standing inside the banquet hall in confusion as the police officers entered.
“An emergency has occurred here. Please do not leave, everyone stay calm!” An officer who entered flashed his badge, shouting in a loud, resonant voice.
Shi Yunmu paused his steps, shrugging. “It looks like we shot ourselves in the foot.”
Judging by the posture of the human police, it was likely neither of them would be leaving anytime soon.
Dust Demon: “We can leave in a bit anyway, it’s not like we did it…… wait, my Lord, look ahead.”
“What’s wrong?”
Shi Yunmu looked in the direction the Dust Demon pointed. Walking in against the light, the man’s physique was striking, his cold, hardened aura resembling a sword drawn from its sheath.
Even though he wore a silver mask, those deep, dark eyes made one shudder without being cold.
The Dust Demon’s tone grew tense. “He looks just like…… the person who heavily injured the Shadow Tiger before!”
