- Chapter 30.1 - Feelings
Shang Shiqian woke up to find that the world had changed!
She glanced at the digital clock displaying 08:33, then checked her phone.
Thursday.
It was indeed a workday, so why did the villa feel so much quieter than usual?
On regular workdays, the lawnmowers would already be running by six in the morning and not just one, but several.
After the lawn was trimmed, thermal foggers would be used to exterminate mosquitoes and cockroaches, and the noise from those machines was no quieter than the lawnmowers.
Shang Shiqian had once suspected that Wei Yixian was also woken up by the commotion until she realized he woke up even earlier than the lawnmowers.
As she stepped out of her room, she noticed several maids cleaning an empty room on the east side.
Seeing Pu Feifei inside giving instructions, she approached and asked, “Sister Pu, are we expecting guests?”
Pu Feifei asked, “Did the noise wake you up?”
“No, I woke up naturally.”
Pu Feifei sighed in relief. “That’s good.”
A smile then spread across her face. “You woke up just in time. Come take a look at this room and let me know if there’s anything else you’d like adjusted.”
Shang Shiqian was baffled. “Huh? Me?”
“Yes. Wei Yixian said your original guest room on the west side gets too much afternoon sun, so he asked me to move you to this room.” Pu Feifei gestured around the spacious secondary bedroom. “It has a walk-in closet, an ensuite bathroom, a projector screen, and a large balcony.”
Upon further inspection, Shang Shiqian realized Pu Feifei had undersold it.
There was also a small alcove with a built-in bookshelf covering one wall, alongside a single armchair.
On the other side stood a work desk with a computer on one end and a Go board with a Go stone jar on the other.
Shang Shiqian wondered if she had accidentally been moved into the master bedroom.
Pu Feifei said, “Try lying on the bed first. I want to make sure you’ll be comfortable sleeping here at night.”
“I’ll be fine,” Shang Shiqian waved her hand dismissively.
After a pause, she suddenly asked, “Where’s Wei Yixian?”
“Wei Yixian went to the office. If you want to go out, just let me know, I’ll be your driver from now on.”
Shang Shiqian was stunned. “You’ll be my driver? But aren’t you Wei Yixian’s personal assistant?”
Pu Feifei smiled. “I am, but my responsibilities are limited to hospitality and managing the villa.”
Wei Yixian rarely hosted parties at the villa, and invited guests were few and far between.
With the villa’s operations already running smoothly, she no longer needed to supervise everything constantly.
Her current duties mainly involved inspecting the staff’s work, auditing household expenses, planning schedules, and entertaining the villa’s sole guest, Shang Shiqian.
Shang Shiqian’s routine was simple. Pu Feifei only needed to drive her to her destinations and pick her up later, which didn’t interfere with her other tasks.
Noticing Shang Shiqian’s slight embarrassment, Pu Feifei added, “Don’t worry about burdening me. I’m paid to do my job well, and I intend to do just that.”
Only then did Shang Shiqian stop feeling awkward.
Still, she couldn’t help but wonder, why had Wei Yixian suddenly changed his attitude toward her?
As she puzzled over it, she suddenly remembered the system’s Love Points.
Ever since she turned off the Love Points notifications and the system stopped mentioning changes in Heartbreak Points and Love Points, she had gradually forgotten about it.
If it weren’t for her curiosity about the reason behind Wei Yixian’s sudden change in attitude, she might never have remembered this detail.
Although the evaluation criteria for these values seemed somewhat unreliable, they could still serve as a reference.
“System, what are the current Love Points and Heartbreak Points?”
[Love Points: 11%]
[Heartbreak Points: 7%]
Shang Shiqian: “…”
“I remember the Love Points were only 3% five days ago?”
[Below is the Love Points growth record:
The female lead used her privilege to help the host enter East City University, Love Points +1%.
The female lead spent extravagantly to treat the host and friends to a meal, corresponding to the original plot, the female lead stood up for her White Moonlight by inviting them and their rival to a top-tier restaurant, humiliating the rival. Love Points +1%.
The female lead reminded the host to eat lunch, a thoughtful gesture that warmed the heart, Love Points +1%.
The female lead exchanged equipment worth 1.2 million yuan for a temporary campus card, Love Points +2%.
The female lead personally brought an umbrella for the host on a rainy day and picked them up, truly romantic, Love Points +1%.
[…]
Today’s unusual arrangements added up to a total of 2% Love Points.
Shang Shiqian: “…”
It really did align with the system’s usual scoring standards.
She said, “So we still haven’t figured out the reason for her strange behavior!”
The Black Moonlight System suddenly popped up with a fireworks effect for Shang Shiqian:
[Congratulations, host! The collected Love Points have surpassed 10%!]
Shang Shiqian asked, “Is there anything special about this value?”
[Every 10% increase can be used to extend your lifespan once! Host, you can live one more month now aren’t you happy?]
Shang Shiqian: “…”
“Does that mean 100% would only give me 10 more months?”
[How could that be? The higher the Love Points, the more lifespan you can exchange for.]
“But I still want a legal identity.”
The system advised her: [Although we have a bit of energy now, it’s not quite enough for that yet. Keep working hard to win over the female lead.]
“Your promises are bland and hard to swallow.”
After making empty promises, the system logged off immediately.
Though Shang Shiqian didn’t get the legal identity she wanted, living an extra month was still good news.
Because she woke up late today and spent extra time getting dolled up by Pu Feifei before leaving, she arrived at East City University during the third class period.
The Go Room administrator saw her and said, “I thought you weren’t coming.”
“Huh?” Shang Shiqian was confused.
Only then did she learn that news of Weng Qizheng wanting her help to coach students had already spread in the Go Room.
At her usual arrival time, she was nowhere to be seen.
Some speculated she might have been scared off, she came to the Go Room almost every day, and if she were a university student, she couldn’t possibly skip classes.
Since she held a temporary campus card, students guessed she might be a faculty member’s child.
After all, if she were an outsourced employee, she’d still have to work.
Embarrassed, Shang Shiqian said, “I overslept today.”
Apparently, Weng Qizheng found out she was on campus and got her phone number from Li Zhishen, then called her.
“Xiao Shang, my proposal yesterday was inconsiderate. After thinking it over, I realized I can’t ask you to coach for free.”
After careful consideration, I’d like to invite you to be my temporary personal assistant. I’ll personally provide you with a monthly coaching stipend of 5,000 yuan, and if they achieve good results in the competition, there will be additional bonuses.
Moreover, it won’t take up too much of your time just until the championship ends.”
Weng Qizheng’s school salary naturally wasn’t enough to cover the stipends and bonuses, but she ran a Go training school outside, so it wasn’t much of a financial burden.
Shang Shiqian said, “Actually, I was just about to mention that I might only have a little over a month of free time and won’t be able to commit to this role long-term.”
The Chinese College Student Go Championship usually takes place in early to mid-July and lasts six days.
It is suspended for a year when it coincides with the World Championship.
The World Championship is held every four years, and since it took place last year, this year’s championship will proceed as usual.
The system had extended Shang Shiqian’s lifespan by one month, which was enough for her to participate fully in the event until its conclusion.
After some thought, she agreed to Weng Qizheng’s proposal.
Weng Qizheng was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to print out the contract immediately.
Shang Shiqian hesitated but ultimately chose to be honest: “Professor Weng, there’s something I must confess to you.”
Weng Qizheng noticed the change in how she addressed her.
This indicated that Shang Shiqian’s matter wasn’t related to Go but rather a very social issue.
She immediately became serious: “Go ahead.”
“My situation is somewhat special. I don’t have a registered household status, I’m still an unregistered resident so there might be some things I can’t handle directly.”
Weng Qizheng was taken aback but quickly thought of news stories like “rural families favoring sons over daughters avoiding fines by not registering their daughters.”
She suspected Shang Shiqian might be in a similar situation.
After a moment of contemplation, Weng Qizheng said, “I understand. Not having household registration does pose some inconveniences, but rest assured, the terms I promised you won’t change. We can revise the agreement, and I’ll take full responsibility for any issues that arise.”
Shang Shiqian was deeply moved.
Since her rebirth, she had encountered so many kind people!
From Wei Yixian, who took her in, to Chen Yixun, who risked disciplinary action to sneak her into the school to play Go, to Li Zhishen, who kept her secret of not being a student there, and finally Weng Qizheng, who recognized her skills and value.
Each of them had given her tremendous help and understanding.
One must repay kindness.
She decided to deliver gifts to Wei Yixian and Chen Yixun that afternoon.
Giving gifts to Li Zhishen and Weng Qizheng wouldn’t be appropriate, though.
But she could mentor Li Zhishen and the others, if they achieved good results in the college Go championship, that would be the greatest repayment to Weng Qizheng!
“Professor Weng, may I ask for one more favor?”
Weng Qizheng felt nothing could be more troublesome than her lack of household registration, so she replied quite casually, “Of course, what else do you need help with?”
“I don’t need such a high salary just help me find a place to stay. Right now, I’m staying at a friend’s place, and over time, it’s becoming a bit inconvenient.”
For Weng Qizheng, this wasn’t an issue at all. She said, “I have a small place nearby where I stay when I’m too busy at school. If you need it, I can give you the keys just stay there. Don’t worry about rent. Five thousand yuan is barely enough to get by in East City. If I took rent from you, what kind of person would that make me?”
After settling things with Weng Qizheng, Shang Shiqian contacted Chen Yixun: “Yixun, do you have classes this afternoon?”
“Nope,” Chen Yixun replied with a laugh. “Want me to go somewhere with you?”
Shang Shiqian gave a thumbs-up from afar. “You’re amazing, you guessed it! Didn’t I say I’d get you a gift? Let’s go pick something out this afternoon!”
“Really? Well, I won’t hold back then.”
She hung up.
Chen Yixun’s roommate poked her in the side with a teasing grin. “No classes this afternoon?”
Chen Yixun feigned ignorance. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Her roommate smirked. “Stop pretending. Your phone was loud enough to hear. ‘Let’s go pick a gift’ and all that.”
